WIFI Router does NOT work with full root

Hey everyone. between my brothers and I, we have five Evo's. two of us are running full roots and nand unlocks, the other three are using unrevoked. those that unrevoked can use the wifi router without issue, but for my brother and myself, using the wifi router results in the app crashing and having to force close.
has anyone seen anything similar? can anyone offer me some solution?
and btw, this is my third rom. they all have the same results(full wipe, data and davik cache clear each time)

Delete wi fi tether from the phone and re-download it. This has worked for me everytime i change roms =)

Do you mean the wireless tether app? I am running my own rom but it seems that it worked for me when I was using fresh. But that is the only other rom I have tried. Have you tried re-installing the tether app?

I'm not sure i can remove the base wifi tether app. it's always cooked into the rom. and i have tried reinstalling the app. i've gone from the original version, to the newer version and finally the beta version with no luck

I was having this issue for awhile. I'm not sure exactly what fixed it, but my work around was:
1. Re-install from the market place (Do not launch)
2. Reboot
3. Install this version http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/detail?name=wireless_tether_2_0_5-pre2.apk&can=2&q=NexusOne
(Don't lanch)
4. Reboot
5. Should work now

Hmmmmmm. I am sure someone else can offer better advice, but does the super user app come up to ask for permission or it fc's before that?

okay, i did exactly as you said. now the app will start, but as soon as i click on the wifi symbol, it thinks for a second and says "Unable to start tethering. Please try again!"
Edit: and on first run, it asked me for super user permissions. i click grant and checked the box to allow future requests

I am not sure if your signature is correct but have you tried flashing the newest radio? I am not sure if that would fix it or not. And the same thing happens to the other phone? Puzzling indeed. I'm sure someone will drop in and tell you how to fix it soon. Worst case, start over. Even though I know you said you tried various roms, maybe you are accidentally skipping a step, I do that sometimes

Ok, go back through the same process and try this one instead of what was in step 3.

If that doesn't work, I've got nothing else. The first one was the beta you probably tried earlier. This is the stable one; however, I never tried it with this one. I always got it working using the 2_0_5 version.

Also, for ****s and giggles, have you tried updating you profile and prl?
- you didn't flash the wireless n patch over a 1.47 base Rom correct? Can you connect to a WiFi router or is it just the tether app?

uh....what?? you got me there! i thought i knew what those were, but it escapes me now.
the only thing i can think of is that the rooting process screwed up somehow. but for it to screw up in the same way for two separate phones is odd, but it's the only thing that has remained constant since the very beginning.

Menu - settings - system updates. The profile and prl won't mess with root or anything but its something I have heard to do in this case. Don't know if it will help.
Also did you see the note about the wifi n patch on the other page? I added it after I posted... like this

done. same results. "Unable to start tethering. Please try again!"

Well crapola. I think I'm outta ideas man. if you didn't patch the wireless n over a 1.47 Rom then I have no clue what it could be. maybe Sprint is spying on you and has your phones on lock down! but if you can't find the answer just try starting fresh. it might be a pain but who knows what little quirk could have gotten messed up.

i do have the wireless N enabled, but i do not have the new 1.47 yet. i'm waiting on OMJ to release an update

Samsung has released a replacement for KIES to use on newer phones. It's called Samsung Smart Switch. There are the App versions you run on the phone, and there are the Windows and Mac versions you run on your PC. This is a run through on the Windows PC on how to restore your Firmware in case you've Borked your phone. I actually recommend you do this, even if you have not done anything wrong to your phone. My phone ran really hot, laggy, and the battery life was horrible. After flashing the stock firmware, it now runs cool, smooth, and fast.

Thanks for this. I rooted my Edge and it was having the deep sleep issues so I needed to go back to stock and start over. I really hope the rooting issues will be fixed soon, but as of now going back to a fresh start isn't so bad.

Did you loose root after doing this ? Did you re-root if you did loose it ?

Yes, root is lost. No, I didn't re-root. Currently, I'm happy with how my phone is running. Others have rooted again and then replaced recovery with stock And they claim good results.

Thanks for this!! Just to verify, with this tool including the update, root still works correct? I came from att to t-mobile just so I could root this phone. So I want to make sure I'll be able to immediately root again lol! I haven't taken the update yet.

I personally have not rooted again after using this. Others have said they rooted again and the phone stayed working well. I believe they replaced the buggy Recovery with the Stock Recovery afterwards. Not sure if that has anything to do with stability or not.

I've install Smart Switch and my S6 Edge connects fine but when I click on more and Emergency software recovery and initialisation the app hangs (freezes) and does nothing. The app is non responsive it just sits there until I force close.

Maybe uninstall and re-install. That sounds like a software/pc issue.
Do you get the same thing if your phone is not plugged in? If it works without the phone plugged in, maybe try another cable. Or at least confirm you have the Original Samsung Cable being used.

I've done that several times already and it still does the same thing. Thanks for helping

What about right clicking on the Icon and Running as Administrator? Also, have you confirmed the drivers are installed correctly and showing in Device Manager when your phone is plugged in? "SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface"

My experience is less than perfect. I did a backup using SS, did the "emergency software recovery and initialisation", and then restored my backup using SS. The backup supposedly restored successfully, but all it did was restore my apps. My homescreen is not restored despite selecting all, nor are my 5 different google accounts restored. Wish I knew this would happen - I'd have thought twice about doing it....

That's good info for others. I set mine up as a new device when I went back. Only thing I recovered was my text messages.
I've found in the past that when recovering, it sometimes brings back the issues from before, so I rarely restore anything except messages. I take screen shots of my home screens and the app drawer so I can put it back manually as I had it. I find this gives me less future headaches.
Also, for what it's worth, the S6 is NOT the only phone I've had that benefits from a fresh flash when new. I've had Windows Phones and other Android Phones that run MUCH better afterwards. I make it a standard thing to flash them within the first couple days of getting them if it's possible. The outcome is often positive. On occasion, no difference has been noticed.

It fixed all of my phone problems AND the restore facilitated setting it up again without bringing back any of the original lag/clumsiness. Fantastic fix, thanks for sharing!

Can anyone confirm that there's no battery issues after a few days? Are you leaving VOLTE enabled?

I will say I think the battery is as good as it will get with this release of firmware. I leave all my radios on and VoLTE is enabled. With that said, it lasts nowhere near as long as an iPhone 6 or LG G2. So far I can live with how it's lasting, but I do hope it will be fixed in future releases.

Incoming calls cannot be answered or never make it to my phone.

Sporadically lags a bit everywhere, but I cannot receive incoming calls. I use another phone to test and it rings on the calling phone several times, goes to my voicemail and THEN rings on my phone and of course can't be answered. It just hangs there all greyed out until I hang up and takes like 20 seconds for the phone app to disappear. Other times it doesn't even ring at all on my phone. I can make outgoing calls.
The Sprint support guy took me through re-provisioning the phone with some dial pad codes, he did something to the SIM card too , I've uninstalled Drupe (which has been great) and reinstalled it. Tried both when on and off the phone. No difference
Wiped both the cache partition and the davlik cache.
This started a couple days ago when the phone rebooted ITSELF without my touching it and then booted back up into an error that said "Unfortunately, NetworkSystemProvider has stopped.". Couldn't do anything. Tapping OK made it go away for half a second and it was back. A friend of mine managed to get some Sprint specific thing either disabled or yanked and the error went away. Everything seemed to be fine. I'm not sure when the phone issue started exactly or even if it's related to that situation or not. I just noticed today that someone was calling me and I couldn't answer. (I do most of my communications online and don't get that many phone calls, but the ones I do get are very important)
Oh yeah, I reseated the SIM after an error saying there wasn't one after the Sprint guy sent some info to it and that went away.
i am at total loss here. The Sprint guy of course wants to wipe the phone. That would be a monstrous drag for all the reasons you guys already know for a phone that has been working great for over a year like it is.
Please be my new hero and tell me what to do if anybody knows. I have good PC skills and SOME with Android, but this is beyond me.

The Sprint store gave me a new SIM card and that didn't fix it either. Restoring a TWRP full image restore from April didn't fix it. A factory wipe in Teamwin recovery didn't fix it. Same exact symptoms no matter what I do.
Ring ring ring ring ring on the calling phone, it finally rings on mine, but is already in voicemail on the calling phone. Once in a GREAT while it will ring just a bit earlier on mine and it will flutter between being greyed out on the answer screen (all the options like speaker etc) and eventually connect the call after a second or two. Nobody I can find has ever seen anything like this. This S6 was working absolutely flawlessly for well over a year.

It also appears I am not usually getting incoming txt messages either, but I am getting only certain old ones repeatedly. Sometimes old voicemails too. It's almost more like it's a remote server issue somewhere.

I hate to say it, but it sounds like your phone is failing and will need to be replaced. But before you do that, here is a relatively easy thing to try:

Using Odin, flash the latest firmware. You are at 5.11, the latest is 6.01. That will restore you to stock OS, take away root and TWRP, but you'll be able to restore those. You shouldn't have any data loss.
Once that is done, go to Settings and System Update and then Update PRL and Profile. See if that solves it. If it does, you can quickly Root and Recovery again.

TWRP (or Teamwin if you like) won't be an issue. Download Odin on your PC, download the zipped TAR file in the first post of my link. Extract the .MD5 in the zip to the same directory as Odin (you don't really have to, this is just convenient. Install the latest Samsung drivers to your PC, make sure that your computer recognizes the phone. Put the phone into Download mode. (Hold the Volume Down, Home and Power buttons at the same time.) Plug the phone into your computer. If the com light lights up in Odin, you are good to go. Flash the TAR using the AP slot in Odin.
This sounds like a lot, but it is easier to do than for me to tell you. But WAIT! In my linked post, there is a video that will walk you through it all!

I'm sorry man. I'm actually a seasoned PC support guy. I know I'm being a pain. I don't have muich experience with these phones though and it's been 14 months since I flashed this one. I don't know what most of that means over there.
I don't have the regular recovery. I have Teamwin. There IS an ADB side load function in there. Is that what I use in place of the regular download mode? If so, won't that leave Teamwion on the phone since that's what I'm using? Sprint won't give me another one while it's on there.
How do I know if Odin is seeing the phone? It doesn't appear to act like it knows my phone is attached to the computer. Does it have to be in download mode that I'm trying to find out how to get into here

Here is where I'm lost. Holding the three buttons does not give me an option for download that I can find. It puts me in the Teamwin interface.

Could you be holding the Volume Up button, not the Volume Down button by mistake?
Doesn't matter. If you are in TWRP and you select "Reboot" one of the options should be Download. That will do the same thing for you.
You can also install something like this (if you are rooted) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jc.rebootmanager
And one last thing. You need to have your phone in Download mode to be seen by Odin.

Yes, that's what I was doing
It is restarting now, but didn't actually erase anything. It looks like it just upgraded to Marshmallow. However, I am being barraged with txt messages so maybe it fixed it. I'll let you know. Thank you very much for your patience.

That fixed it!!! The phone works!!! I didn't even lose any of my data or pix or contacts or anything.
Now all I gotta do is get ROOT back and TWRP reinstalled.

I am really good with PCs, Windows and Linux. Good with Android. But Apple devices? My daughter had to show me how to use my iPod.

What I don't understand is why a known good TWRP recovery from months ago didn't fix it, but an OS upgrade did. You'd think that both should work or not. Its' the same phone and a full backup from when it worked fine. Oh well. I'm just glad it did work.

While I have you here. You don't happen to have a guide for installing X-Posed on this phone do you? I have the zip installed from TWRP, but when I go to install the APK from within the OS I get what you see in this screen and the guy who's guide I was following doesn't respond. Hydra Rom Verification failed error

Hey all,
I have tried searching, but cannot find anything. I followed the Hydra rom install from http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-7/development/rom-hydra-rom-v1-0-t3447611
Did the ODIN BL and Cp install, also did the TWRP install. Did the Hydra install through TWRP. Since tthe first reboot all I get is a Verification failed error and a pop up saying "unfortunately System UI has stopped".
I booted back into TWRP and did a wipe, but a reboot still does the error. Is there a way to fix this?

Ok. I fixed it. Needed to do a file restore in TWRP. Reinstalled Hydra. Now working like a charm. Wohoo. 1 working note 7. Now for the other.

All works except for the phone. Cannot connect to a network. In settings it is setup to detect automatically, and I do a search for net work operators and my operator comes up. When I select them it says 'unable to connect. Try later'.
Is there something I need to try?

Either your apn needs to be set or your carrier has disabled your device.

In Australia. I read that the carrier for the phone disabled the phones. I guess its only good as a tablet now. What a shame. Is there anything that can be done?
Guess I I'll put the Hydra on the S7 edge replacement i have.

It will maybe some inconvenient but you could carry a second phone with you, setting up a wireless hotspot and connect to this hotspot with your Note. Then you can use a voip service like skype. It's possible to buy a phone number from them and to make a call redirection from your second phone to your skype on the note. Depending on your plan you may or may not have additional costs for this. With a full falt rate it should be free of charge. So all incoming calls will come to your note, and for outgoing you can use skype. There are similar solutions for text messages.

You could try renaming everything in your build.prop ...SM-N930.... to ...SM-G935.... (Note7 to 7edge). restart the phone and it might work again. like mine does with the Gear VR.

These ROMS do NOT contain any of my tricks or hacks. They're simply pre rooted ROMS in case you need to return back to stock FireOS. No apps have been removed except the above mentioned and none have been added, except the above mentioned.
Downloads:
- For HD 10 SUEZ on 5.6.1.0: 5.6.1.0_Fire_HD_10_optimized_pre_rooted_stock_rom-signed.zip
- For HD 10 SUEZ on 5.6.2.0: 5.6.2.0_Fire_HD_10_optimized_pre_rooted_stock_rom-signed.zip
Installation:
1. Download the ROM then plug your tablet into the PC and place the zip on your internal storage.
2. BACKUP ALL VALUABLE DATA. YOU WILL BE ERASING THE SYSTEM AND DATA. Reboot to TWRP (recovery), tap wipe and select dalvik, cache, system and data ONLY and swipe to confirm. When finished tap the home button, reboot then recovery.
3. When back in recovery, tap install and select the ROM then swipe to confirm. When done, reboot and enjoy.

Is there any benefit to flashing this if I'm already rooted? I mean, "optimized" sounds nice, but my data.... lol

EDIT: Flashed and got a black screen at first, spooped me for a few seconds there, then showed the Amazon and (now currently) Fire logos. And now we wait for it to do its optimization.

To be clear: your instructions don't have any prerequisites of already being rooted or modded in any other way? So a person could do these steps on an unmodified HD 10 2017 Suez that is running 5.6.1.0?

I would think you would need to have TWRP installed, at least. The instructions do call for that.
Also, it appears to be working without at hitch. I'm inputting my WiFi password as I type this.
EDIT: I kept getting a DHCP error when connecting to my home hotspot, so I'm using my phone's hotspot instead. WiFi icon has an exclamation mark next to it, but internet seems to be working fine.
EDIT 2: Spoke too soon. Don't have internet. No matter what I do. Can't seem to connect properly. Every network I try just keeps saying "Obtaining IP address," never connects. Eventually throws the error, "IP Configuration Failure, IP configuration failed due to DHCP error."
EDIT 3: Phone hotspot is working, for now. Guess I'll stick with that until the router is fixed.

This is on a 2.4.ghz band that you are trying to connect to I'm assuming?
Edit: @DragonFire1024 thank you so much for your continued and dedicated work with these tablets! Can't wait to see what you can do when you really get down on making a ROM for this beast.

It most likely is. The router's SUPPOSED to output 5GHz as well, but someone f*cked it up and now it only does 2.4.

Do you know/are you able to find out what the channel width is set at? If it's set at 40 instead of 20 that could be why the phone hot spot works and the router doesn't.

Could be. I'll check and try the other setting. It's worked before this ROM, so I dunno if that's the cause...

Nothing works so far. I need to fix this damn router or replace it. I'm tired of AT&T and their sh*tty hardware and even sh*ttier service.

I'm having the same WiFi issue. Just gets stuck on obtaining IP address.

It appears that the tablet is not liking DHCP. If you configure a static IP address it connects fine and internet works.

Wonder why it works (sometimes) with my phone hotspot? I'll try the static IP. That actually had crossed my mind, @tylerhole, but i didn't have time to try it before work.

In the "optimizing" you did for this ROM did any of it have to do with wifi?

if you're referring to what you have in this thread then it didn't work for me. i removed everything but the boot animation, framework stuff, and the settings apk. still getting wifi issue though.

Took a chance and tried this coming from the original 5.1.1 Fire OS (what I thought was 5.1.1, but now im not sure what version I had, read on)
Did the wipe as instructed and everything looked good during the flash but on reboot it looks like the 5.1.1 persisted somehow.
EDIT. getprop ro.build.version.release reports 5.1.1 but the system updates reports 5.6.1.0. I had blocked system updates just to make sure that was disabled but in doing so you cant get the version from the settings. So I'm good, except for the WIFI not working.

Ok I do know the kernel source contains the wifi drivers. I'm not at home to look, but I'm willing to bet $150 that the needed wifi firmware is not in the system partition. This is the last hurdle I believe and I think everything to this point are intentional blockades. If one can hunt down the system wifi drivers it shouldn't be an issue to include them in another build.

5.1.1 is the Android version not FireOS version which is 5.6.1.0.
