Internal storage have nothing to do with your problem. Your problem is SDcard.
Can you mount it in Windows when phone is connected to PC?
Or use any adapter to put your sdcard into PC and repair it from there.
If it's repairable. If it's not, you'll have to format it.
Also, maybe it's broken so there is nothing you can do it about it, but to use another sdcard

Hello,
I´m on a stock ROM, that I have only rooted. Nothing else is done to the phone.
I have been using Android´s built in encryption for both internal and external memory cards, without any issues, since a few months.
When I woke up this morning and started my phone (the battery had died) I couldn´t mount the encrypted external microSD card. I got an error stating that the memory card couldn´t be mounted because it needs at least 1 MB of free storage.
Before I went to bed I started a torrent download on the phone to the external memory card. Apparently that must have filled the whole memory card (I had only 2GB left of free space) and then the battery must have died.
So, the error message says I need to remove some files to "encrypt" (mount) the memory card How do I remove files from the memory card if I can´t mount it? Can I mount the encrypted memory card on a PC with a card reader?
I´m NOT interested in formatting the card since I have invaluable material on the memory card. The most important issue for me is to not loose my data.
Please help me if you have any insight into this problem.

Re: [Q] Unable to mount encrypted external microSD
You rooted?
If yes then try aroma file manager or twrp.
If not try card reader option as well.

Hi,
I am rooted yes. But I have the stock recovery manager as far as I know.
I couldn't find any "Aroma file manager" and don't know what TWRP is. I searched the play store for twrp and found different recovery managers.
Could you be more specific? My problem is that the card won't mount since the system states that it requires at least 1MB free memory on the card. The same card I cannot mount. So as I see it I'm in a catch 22.
Has anyone any knowledge of how to mount a encrypted memory card on a PC? What OS should I use, any particular software?
Thanks...
Ok, I tried using a memory card reader on a windows PC.
The files didn´t look encrypted at all. This is VERY weird. Either the files are individually encrypted or something or they weren´t encrypted at all
I could see all files, their names and the file sizes I removed about a GigaByte of crap and inserted it into my phone again
The phone mounted the memory card without any problems.
So this was actually a non-issue.
Problem solved!

My experience is that files are individually encrypted. You can navidate the directory structure and see all files but cannot open them.
Hello,
I successfully installed CM-10.1 on my Galaxy W. Now it works much better than with the original firmware.
My only problem is, that I can not get Evernote to work. It tells that I have to insert a memory card before I can use Evernote.
But there is a SD card inserted.
Why does Evernote not recognize this card? Do you have any suggestions how I can solve this problem or do you know the reasons of this problem?
Best regards
wewa
EDIT: It also seems that the included Android Browser does not recognize the SD card. I tried to download something. And it tells me, that the download cant be done, because a SD card is needed.
Also the gallery app does not recognize the SD card.
The external SD card is mounted under /storage/sdcard. With the filemanager I can see the files on the card. Maybe the card is not mounted correctly?
Hello,
I have some additional information.
I found a workaround for my problem. To get access to the external SD, I have to connect my phone as an USB mass storage device to a PC and disconnect it again. Afterwards i can access the external SD.
But after restarting my phone, the problem appears again and I have to do the workaround again.
I think that there is some bug and permissions or so are not set correct during startup.
Du you have any idea how to solve my problem?
Best regards

Hi Guys,
I was waiting for the Marshmallow Update because now u can use ur SD as a internal Memory. Everything went fine.
Now my Problem. I saved all the Data from the SD Card to my PC. Now i want to put all the Data like Music/Photos etc. back on my Phone. But how????
I cant see the Memory over HTC Sync Manager nor the Explorer while connected via USB. Is the any Chance to get my Data back on the Phone? Please help
Thank you!
Did you have try to select "Transfer files (MTP)" from notification menu?
As described here:
http://www.androidcentral.com/inside-marshmallow-usb-connection-options
yes, i selected that. i can see the "original" internal memory in the pc explorer, but not any more storage. and the sd card doesnt appear at all....

The sd card doesn't appear because it is now internal storage. The internal storage you see should include your sd card. How much total space does Windows see on it? It should be more than your original internal storage space was.
Once you use the adoptable storage option, it's normal for a PC to only see internal. Your sd card has become internal storage.
it shows 10,6 gb like before. and ive got a 64gb card...
the only way i can see it is on the phone itself

Well, I haven't tried it myself so I'm not sure but perhaps the fact that the card gets encrypted in the formatting process has something to do with it. Perhaps Windows just can't read it. Like I said, I don't know for sure. If that's the case, I would imagine your only option would be to upload your stuff to the cloud somewhere and then download it to your phone. Perhaps someone else who's using adoptable storage will see this and chime in about it here.
Hello,
I have been unable to move my apps to the SD card. In app manager there is an option to do so, but I am unable to select it. Do I have to format my SD card as internal storage to do so ?
Thanks in advance.

also note once you change your externalsd to adoptable storage the it wont show up on your pc when you connect your phone to pc via usb
also note while you are converting to adoptable or back to external storage it does take sometime don't force reboot your device else your sd card would get corrupted

It's actually internal storage that won't show up on PC after, it weird that way, you'll see the card just fine. In twrp you still see both though when connecting.

Anyone know the best source for chapter & verse on the changes to storage management on Nougat?
I'm not yet using adoptable storage because I keep a large music library on SD and find it orders of magnitude faster to update it on PC. But now the option to move apps to SD card is gone in Nougat, I'm wondering if I should move to adoptable storage...
Hi I was hoping someone would know how to do this.
I have a slight issue on my HTC One M8 the charging port isn't working anymore and I will get the port replaced.
However in the meantime the micro SD was used as internal storage I have a lot of media on there I wish to keep and when inserting the SD card into a pc or another phone it's unable to read the SD card. Probably replacing the port once its fixed will solve the problem but in the meantime does anyone know of anyway how to view the contents of the SD card from inserting the memory card into a pc?
Help with this would be much appreciated thanks.

You can't do this (mount on PC) once you've selected to use the SD as internal storage. That is the whole point of using it as internal storage, the SD is an "extension" of the phone's internal storage. Only part of the files are on the SD, and some are on the phone's built-in storage. And the way computers write files, there is nothing saying that the fragments of a file are in any one location (part of a file may be on SD, part may be on the phone's built-in storage).
Stated more simply, the SD is now just part of a whole. By taking it out, you now just have a part of the whole; therefore breaking it, so it can't be read on a PC.
That's why there are two options given in Marshmallow when you insert an SD, to format as internal or removable storage. You can't have both. By picking internal storage, by definition, its not removable (can't be read by another device once its removed).

Thanks for clarifying I have the port in for repair and the technician said he won't be hard resetting the phone so hopefully I'll be able to still get into the SD card after.
