Hello everyone!
So I'm looking at a new device, probably gonna get a new one later this year or beginning of next one. Currently this N3N is the one I have on first palce on my list, mainly for that awesome battery life and for being Samsung. Also this device has a great price-value rate here currently and price will even drop after Note 4 gets available. I have a few questions before I can be sure about getting the device though.
1. Isn't it too huge? I have a 4.7 inch device now, kinda convenient. Tried Note 3 before, surprisingly that 5.7 inch didn't feel too big, but still, I can't think about how I could handle something over 5 inches. Is it possible to use it one-handed in fullscreen mode (I mean without using the one-handed mode feature)? Can I reach all parts with my thumb if holding the device in hand?
2. Battery life <--> performance: The Exynos hexa-core chipset looks promising, is it really capable of handling a good balance between performance and battery life? I read amazing battery life results in that thread and didn't read any issues about performance. Any lags, stutters?
3. Are there any currently known ways of rooting without tripping Knox? I don't want to flash a custom rom (nor custom recovery) first, but rooting and removing all bloatware would be essential. Towelroot doesn't work: more people reported it doesn't and I checked the kernel and the futex patch is applied. Newer exploits might work (in the future), because no Samsung-made hardening code is enabled according to the kernel (the code is there, it just isn't enabled). Of course there is CF Auto-Root, but that's a no-go, because of Knox.
4. Does Xposed Framework work well? Some users wrote it does so I guess yes.
5. Does the S Pen fit correctly? I don't want to lose it when going around. Is it useful? I don't think I'm gonna use it a lot, but who knows!
6. Anybody tried S View Cover? I see it exists, still don't know if I want one, just asking.
7. Is there a binary counter, same as on older Samsung devices? What stuff is there in bootloader at all?
8. Is there an activation lock, like on Note 3? Like you can only activate it where you bought it.
I probably will have more questions over time as I get to know things, will ask them then.
Thanks in advance!

All your questions will be answered by me! .
First: phone isn't too big it has smaller body than n2 and n3. I can use it one handed.
Second: there is no rooting without tripping knox . you are the only one who can do it without tripping Knox.
Thirderformance is great but will be greater if bloat is removed.
Fourth:s-pen fits perfectly. You can even use n3 s-pen if you lost your one which came with n3n. I personally tested it.

Hey Kaushal, thanks for the answers! The thing is, I'm not sure I want to buy the device until I know there's a safe rooting method for sure. :/ Downloaded the stock firmware today, gonna look around in there to see.
Hi Adam,
Haven't you been deeply involved in the LG 4x hd development?
I owned one but after i had lost it i went on to the note 3 neo.
I'm very happy with the phone. Too big for using it with one hand (for me).
Battery - performance ratio is superb. Battery is down to 4% now after 2d 5h and around 6,25h screen on.
I haven't rooted because of knox right now.
Waiting for an method without tripping it.
The pen comes in very handsome from time to time if you need to write down sth quickly or if you need to write longer texts.
Hopefully you decide to buy a note 3 neo.
Perhaps you can unleash some more potential of the device
Got it for 299€.

Hello Adam,
Last month I bought a Note 3 Neo, as my first android device. I have been a long time iOS user. To be honest the machine surprised me. I realy love it, especialy the battery life. For me as well I get around 2 days without any problems.
One hand using is impossible for me too, but it doesnt disturb me, at least knowing that it is impossible, now I drive more safely since I dont try to answer a message..etc
I've rooted it two days ago but yeh I 've ruined the warranthy, but anyways I am not an experienced Android user, so if there was a way to do it without ruining the warranthy, I dont know.
Xposed Framework works well, I mean I installed it then I installed Wanam Xposed and it works very well.
Yes S-Pen fits perfectly, actualy i love using it for sketches while waiting people..etc, powerful enough for thumbnail sketching.
On 17th October I bought the Note 4, even tho it feels a higher quality, it feels also bulkier than the Note 3 Neo, and I miss the soft home button of the N3N, of course the hardware is much better and the screen quality, but i find out using my n3n at home time to time to browse internet when i am at home (without sim card ) more than the N4. So I would definitely advice you to buy one, May be you can check also the N3 since I think that the price will go down soon, and it is as good as N4 (more or less) and in my opinion has a prettier design.
Yes, I was developing for the O4X, still using the device, but need a change soon, that's why looking at the N3N too.
Regarding size I really have to try N3 again so I can experience it properly.
The problem with the whole Knox thing is that still we won't be able to flash real custom recoveries and kernels without tripping Knox. Of course we could use modules, but it's not the same as having a whole custom-built kernel.
What ?!?!? @Adam77Root here ?!?!?
Great news ! I'm happy to see you here.
My previous phone was a O4X and I followed your developement.
Here's the answer (compared to O4X) :
1 - It's all about the time,first days the phone seems a bit huge but now o4x seems really smal and the size of n3n it's ok.
If you don't have a small hand,you can use it without problems (i can reach the top of the screen with the thumb quite easily)
2 - Battery life is amazing compared to o4x (6-8 or even 10 hours screen on time and from 1 to 3 days of total usage,100% to 5%).Performance for now are great but o4x with a custom rom seems a bit faster but whit that battery life,trust me i'ts a different world.
Lags : no lags or not so visible IMHO
3 - Not already rooted so I don't know
4 - as 3 -
5 - yes,it is well fitted in the phone
6 - not tried 'cause I don't like so much and the original one it cost too much for me lol
7 - I can't answer to that question
8 - Ehm...what ? LOL
If you have some more questions,just ask

On the Note 3, you have to activate the device before first use and on the majority of devices it has to be done in the same region (AFAIK network check is done) where it was bought, other devices (the minority) don't have the lock.
ok...I bought it in Italy on a local store for 280€ so it's not imported and it is not branded : I just paid it and I put my micro-sim card on it,I did't have to activate the phone.
On an italian forum I read that some people bought it on the web and sometimes the phone is not "italian" but is "imported" but the users use the phone without problems.
I suggest you to ask to someone that lives in your country.
Guys, does the device have FM radio?

Hello friends,
I am considering to buy a Note 2 to replace my main device as Sensation's touchscreen failed upon me.
I have few questions and I will appreciate your valuable replies.
1. Is Note 2 hardware good enough for next 2 years? I don't play much games and mostly Subway Surfer, Real Racing, MC4. Maybe half hour a month. But I want to be able to run all upcoming Android versions (atleast till developers support this device).
2. I read about SDS somewhere few months before. Is every Note 2 affected? I can't afford to have an expensive paper weight.
3. Does Note 2 have some dual-boot kernel?
4. Any ROM with Note 3 features esp that circle popup thing (or its my wishful thinking ) ?
5. Otherwise which would be recommended Custom Stock ROM, Recovery and kernel (dual-boot is definitely preferred)?
6. Any other major hardware bugs?
7. Btw, could someone guide me as how to check if I decide to buy my friend's old Note 2? How I check it for faults esp hardware? I am getting tempted as I could save some good money for other accessories
If there is something else which hasn't come to my mind but is important please feel free to add. I would be much obliged
Thank you so much !!!

1. Im fairly sure the phone will be extrwmwly adequate 2 years from now (obviously no one knows for sure) but the quad core processor is very capable of playimg the ges you mention. Although there are devices out that already have octo core processors, they all are only usong 4 at any one time and the differences are bare noticable at best.
2. As long as you are getting your phone from an authorized dealer then you shouldnt worry about SDS as that comes with older models and should come with a warrenty that would allow for replacement (one way or another)
3. The guy that built the (either S2 or S3) dual boot kernal was receiving donations to help him fund the tools to make it back in Jan-Mar of this year and I havent heard anything since... nor have I seen anything about it anywhere (atleast not on TMO LTE version. Youre more than welcome to search around a bit yourself)
4. Yes and No... there is but Team E (or whoever) has certain restrictions (really just permission only use) on alot of the Note 3 features that have been made for the Note 2... not really stone walling development, just protecting their hardwork and asking for proper credits, no alterations without reporting back to them, etc... it will be in every new rom eventually
5. Really a matter of who you ask and personal preference. I myself love Ptmr3s Jedi series (Master for TMO WiFi calling or X for other Note 2) but thats because 4.4 isnt out and I love the functionality that TW has for the particular device (samsung hasnt open sourced their SPen, MultiWindow, etc) so theyre not on non-TW BASED roms.. if you prefer AOSP, AOKP, or Paranoid Andriod, or PACMAN, etc than there are carious roms to pick and choose from. As for Kernal... each rom will provide (or users will post kernals that are compatible (I.e. dont use just any kernal on any rom... only what has been tested and proven).
6. Nothing major that isnt morw than an isolated incident at best... obviously of roms are newer or in nightly stages there will be bugs but nothing really hardware related... should mention sometimes on calls, the person your talking to will here themselves (echo) but that is sorta sparatic at best and most roms its not that bad and nothing major (again not really hardware related)
7. eMMC bug checker app. Download from play store, (look up the thread on here) and it will show you what to look for
Hope this helps...
Ultimately the Note should be continued to be developed for some time and able to withstand another 2 years of updates and new handsets. Already have 4.4 on TMO (omnirom - though not a daily driver) and carriers are pushing out stock 4.3 ASAP

Thank you for detailed reply.
So if I am buying new deice I wouldn't have that SDS bug. Right?
I am little surprised (and disappointed) that a powerful device like Note 2 doesn't have dual-boot functionality. That way I could run both Stock (I love various TW functionalities) and AOSP/AOKP/PA, etc
Could you plz provide link or name of the ROM with Note 3 features? Does it have that circle thing?
Thank you once again !!!

No idea whats it called. Yes using S-Pen.
In my country we don't have carrier thing. We have to buy devices at full price
Find out the model of the note 2 amd visit that particular xda thread for further info on uograded custom roms amd updates... also (in case you dont know better... dont flash a rom designed for a dofferwmt device (model number) unless you know what to do.. youll lose cell service and have a bunch of stuff to do just to fix it (some people have ecpensive paper weights)
Good luck, I think the note 2 is a good decision on your part

Yes this circle thing I was talking about. So its called S-Finder....ok
Have you used it? Its good?
Any idea about dual-boot thing?
And, I am glad to have given you yours first Thanks here
Thank you mate
Yes it's working verry good. I am using DN3 as we speak and it's a daily driver for me. The rom does not have yet note 3 camera and have a few minor bugs but nothing serious.
For me is as if a bot a note 3 and next update of the rom was anounced allready by the developers.
Edit:
Never felt the need of dual boot and didnt heard of it either for note II.
Please excuse my english...not my native language

Hello everyone. I have been reading forums on this website for a long time and I must say there is tons of useful information over here. So thought I should become a member too.
Recently I Bought Note 10.1 2014 Edition LTE version. I was expecting it to be much better that its really is. The display is nice but there is lag on this Tablet. It stutters during web browsing. I have a note 3 also which is much smoother although it has 1.9 Ghz Exynos processor as compared to 2.3 Ghz on this tablet. Anyways I have read on net that may be its because it has double the amount of pixels on display as compared to note 3 therefore it has some amount of lag.
Ok my main question to you guys who already own this tablet. In reflection of light I can see the Digitizer Matrix all along the display. its a bit annoying looks like faint sctraches on the screen. I have used many android devices but never experienced anything like it before. while looking as it directly with no light reflection it is not visible at all but even in faintest light reflection is starts to become visible even with the display on
So is it normal or a defect?
Help would be highly appreciated.

Have you used a device with an inductive display before? It puts out an electromagnetic signal which detects the presence of the pen. That's why the display looks different. I've been using mine since November and have never noticed the grid in everyday use. As for lag it pretty much went away with the 4.4 update. If you're already on 4.4 and the display grid is going to bother you return the device while you still can.

The visible matrix does not bother me too much when in use. The display is still beautiful.
I am still on 4.3 coz 4.4 is not available in my region yet. Lets hope once the update is made available in my region, lag will reduce.
The gaming performance however, is better than on note 3.

4.4 is rolling out painfully slow. What region are you in and what model number N10.1-14 do you have? Chances are you can safely download and install a compatible region's ROM without changing the status of your device or tripping KNOX.

You can download the HK 4.4 ROM here.
http://samsung-updates.com/details/30043/Galaxy_Note_10.1_2014_LTE/SM-P605/TGY/P605ZSUCNF1.html
Many people on the forum are using ROMs from other (but compatible) regions because 4.4 hasn't been rolled out to their specific region yet. I'm using a Panamanian ROM on a SM-P601 from Trinidad. They work fine. There can be some oddity (I still have lock screen widgets which I shouldn't and don't have Daynote when I should) but everything else works as designed.
If you've never installed a non-standard ROM on your device do a Google search on "Odin." It'll link you to s/w you need to download and provide you with instructions. I can answer any questions you might have. There's little risk and it doesn't affect your device's status (it stays "official") or KNOX. For me, 4.4 was like getting a new tablet.
Yes I am sure 4.4 solves many issues. I will try the above instructions today. thanks a lot and best regards.

Hi due to political instability in my country, my office is off nowadays and I finally got some time to update my software.
I installed P605XXUCNF2 version which is from NEE region. At first I was not sure but then the lag and stutter in my tablet forced me to go for it.

Like you said Barry its literally like having a new tablet. The lag is gone and overall it has become really smooth.
Thank you for your advice without which I would never have found the solution.
God bless you bro.

i just thought i'd pitch in, theres a setting in chrome you can change to eliminate that lag - it just doesnt allocate enough ram for the resolution its rendered at by default.
Wow another thread about lag..I have had this tab since Dec 2013 ..Never had lag, no issues ever... I have a life, so I don't sit and stare at the tablet all day and pick at it. It's Android . And Sammy it will have some issues...There are quick easy fixes for the mysterious lag people are complaining about. This is the best tab out for this year..The Tab S is the same tab minus the pen..it only has a better screen ..but that could be debated as well.

The amoled display will considerably increase battery life and will have better contrast. Its a huge improvement.
Other specs of tab s is same as note 10.1 as far as I know.
Hello all G3 users [emoji4] I'm currently using a HTC One M7 running on CM12.1 & love it (mainly because of the stereo speakers), but I want to get a new phone because this one is getting old & boring for me... I'm debating between choosing the G3 & Galaxy Note 3... The biggest thing is that I don't really like screens larger than 5" but in today's standards getting a good ~5" phone, that has good developer support is getting harder & harder to do... So as I said, I'm torn between the Note 3 & G3 (my mum has a G3s, which I like). One of the reasons to get the G3 over Note 3, is that the G3 is newer than his opponent, so I could have it even longer with good ROM support from xda, which is the biggest thing for me while choosing a phone [emoji4] I've seen that there are 2 versions of the G3 with 2GB RAM/16GB ROM & 3GB RAM/32GB ROM, so I have a question to that... Is there any other big difference between them, that would make me consider choosing the 3/32 version over the 2/16 (except the storage space ofc. (will use a sdcard anyways)) Or is it the same phone with just a bit different stuff in hardware? Also, do both of them have the same model number (D855 I assume)? I have read on here, that some people have problems that have to do with LTE... Can someone explain me that? (Just need a basic explanation, not a in depth guide). Thanks for your time, by reading all of this [emoji1]

Firstly, You Should Buy 32/3Gb Variant Because 2K Screen With 2Gb Ram İs Too Low (You Probably Have 800-500mb Free Ram On 2Gb, İ Dont Know İ Have 32/3 Gb One ) İ Dont Have İssues With 4G/LTE, Because No 4G/LTE İn Turkey (4.5G/LTE-A coming in April ) there is not hardware changes between 32/3 And 16/2, Just Ram İs Lower, Both İs D855 (if europan one)
Basiccaly Some G3 Variants:
->D855 Europan One
->D852 Canadian One
->D851 T-Mobile One
->D850 At&t One
->VS985 Verzion One
->LS990 Spirint One
->US990 Us One Or Anything Like This
->F400S,K,T Korean One
->F460S,K,T Korean LTE-A One (Snap 805)
->D856 Dual LTE One
->D857 Dual Sim Korean One
->D858HK Dual Sim Chinese One
Okay, thanks for clearing up the versions of it. The biggest problem for me, in getting the G3 in Poland is that I find only 2/16 versions... Hard to find the 3/32 even if it's used, which angers me a bit... Would need to search more or wait longer & see if someone puts it up on sale [emoji52]
I suggest U to take a G3. I have used Note 3 and now using G3 Cat.6 F460s. It is on Marshmallow officially.
Battery timing is same or better than note 3. But in idol mode note 3 is better.
Note 3 heats up more than g3 while player a haevy game or videos
User interface is tooooooooo much freindly customizable in G3. While U always have knox warranty issues by destroying samsung devices(Note 3 and later only) by loosing baseband and sim card signal forever when U go to customize android system in note 3.
Quick circle case is always a gr8 option to be used it keep ur device safe, beautiful in fashion, more useful even the case is closed.
Camera result is more clear than note 3 in day or light areas but in low light note 3 is lil bit fine.
Note 3 have s pen option but U can gain that option by purchasing a universal stylus at 1 or 2 US$.
Choice is urz... I wanted to explain things being nutral.

One of my friends have note 3. He was trying to update his devide manually but being noob he flashed official lollipop not considering baseband and his device got knox 0x1 so now his device is unrecoverable and he is using it without having any sim card signal. Tried every Jtag and box every software repairing lab is visited but not useful. Cell was out of warranty to be sent back to samsung service centre

Hmm... I always thought that the G3 heats up more because, because of the rushed 2k screen... Well, I think I was wrong then [emoji52]
Don't really care about KNOX, gonna trip it anyways by installing custom ROMs...
The Quick circle case isn't really a big deal for me. I currently have a flipcover case on my HTC, which can act as a stand for it, which I like very much [emoji1] So I would like to have the same one for the LG
I don't really care about camera, I don't use it 99% of the time, so yeah...
Well, the S-Pen has far more features than a standard pen that can only be used as a finger replacement...
Yup U are right choice is urz... But my suggestion is that. U should not trip knox... After 0x1 no custom Rom brings back signals. I have tried all possible tricks on internet and even sent to software repairing labs... They could do anything even with custom Roms

Haha, would rather get it myself but thanks for the effort. Also, we have 2 popular sites in Poland where there are many electronic devices like phone etc so I search both of them. Currently I'm on the hunt for the G3 & Note 3 (16GB variant in this one) so if the G3 idea fails, I gonna go for the Note 3 then...
OfCourse Choice is urz bro

Hah, yeah I know about that... Sadly I want to have them both but my budget is what I gonna get for my HTC by selling it (maybe 25€ more), so yeah... Gonna have to think hard through this... But thanks for all the info [emoji1]
U should by a G4 I think so. Or Note 5 will be a much gr8 choice.

Yeah, would like to, but my budget is very limited & I don't work so money is a big problem for me... So the best option for the money is to get a G3/Note 3 [emoji52]
So recently I have purschased a 3T (after my Galaxy S6 exploded) and it's coming to my hands really soon. The question I'm asking myself right now is whether that amazing device is worth rooting. The question is quite bizarre in my case since I am an Android enthusiast and so far I have rooted EVERY SINGLE device I have owned. I also used to be a ROM/kernel developer as well back in the Xperia Arc/HOX/N4/5 days and root was simply essential for me especially that I loved playing around with Android. Referring to my last choice - Galaxy S6 (which replaced my old might Nexus 5) just had to be rooted. I came to Samsung from CLEAN Android experience and no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't make it with tons of Touchwiz bloatware slowing my device down. Now, I have reached the point when I am not really this sure if I'll be rooting OP3T. Now, I just expect a device to be flawless in everyday usage and simply reliable. Any tips? Is it really worth rooting OP3T and sacrificing Oxygen OS OTAs? Or maybe the custom ROMs out there are so outstanding that it's just a must do. Thanks in advance

No i dont think so. Oxygenos is simply smooth you hardly find lag and 6gb is just enough. All my family members using oneplus 3 and 3t. Except me nobody has rooted it. But the performance is so awesome you dont need to root the phone
Btw oneplus warranty includes rooted devices

Even for AdAway, Greenify or SDMaid? Those were quite essential apps for me especially on the crappy GS6. SDMaid could do wonders to put it back to smooth work.
If you find those apps useful, then it's worth it.

Exactly.
For what it is worth, I was a huge AdAway user. I've gotten around it by using Dolphin browser with ad blocking extension. Works every bit as effectively as AdAway for web browsing. Sure, I have to deal with a few ads in some apps, but this is a minor annoyance for me.
I have had the phone since June and never once felt the need to root. As stated earlier, OOS is simply brilliant.

Try YuBrowser on this phone. It's optimized for our Snapdragon and comes with a lot of security. I also use SDMaid.

You don't need greenify bcoz oxygenos has built-in hibernating tool. For blocking ads use can use a adguard which do not required a rooted phone. As far sd maid is concerned i have not used it so i cant comment on that.
If you root the phone and oneplus released a new update you can flash the update ( but u need flash updated full rom available from oneplus website) through twrp. You dont need oneplus recovery.
Hi Guys,
I've gotten a PD now which replaced my S7, apart from the battery, bigger screen and 256GB storage there is not a lot better.
1. I'd at least like to have root - I've now only found one thread where someone nearly bricked his device.
But this thread is far more than 1y old - are there any news for root?
2. Camera: While I had the S7 before - I think the double camera here does not perform any better. From what I've seen this might be also related to compression.
While the Huawei camera-app does not support to change the compression ratio / quality, is there any know camera app which utilizes the double-sensor and does perform better than the Huawei app?
Thanks and regards,
Maeffjus

Hi,
Congratulations on picking up the PD!
I own this and the note 8 and I can honestly say the camera on the PD outperforms the note camera by miles. Active shots, where either the camera or the subject are moving come out crisp.
The only reason I bought the note was because my banking apps kept saying the Huawei is using rooted firmware when it wasn't.
Performance is much smoother than the note and just all around the phone is better. I hope you find this as well, but as you use it more, I'm sure you will agree
Hi Charm,
Normally I had not abandoned the S7, but our GM came up one day with the brand new PD and said that this phone is for for me.
(in general: I'm using a company contract that I'm allowed to use it for all private things - so this is my only phone).
As per my opinion especially in low-light the P9Pro is a lot worse.
However, I'd like to know if there is an 3rd-party cam-app that can handle the two sensors.
And while you said that due to the root your software is complaining - do you have the PD or the "normal" one? And if it is the PD, how did you root it?
Regards,
Matthias

Well consider yourself lucky to be given such a nice phone for free haha!
I use full stock and even the phone is full stock. I have not rooted it, but the banking apps were saying it was rooted which is why I had to abandon it. So I have no idea how to root, but to be honest, I wouldn't root such an expensive phone.

I'd like to root it because I then can use a NFC emulator and combine my companies key for the door and the fob used for "arrival" and "leave" in our time-tracking system from my phone.
What I have found out and what is annoying AF: My bluetooth turns of from time to time by itself. This is especially no fun since I drive in my car with handsfree at lest twice a day plus got a BT connected smartwatch. Any idea how to solve this?
