Hello how can i activate multicast for my tablet sm-t210? I want to stream ip-tv. I read that there has to be something done i n the kernel to get things going. Samsung often just locks multicast for no real reason down.

http://www.rxnetworks.ca/products/assisted-data-solutions/gpstream-pgps it makes fixes to GPS quicker, not sure about the bluetooth one.
Regards

pgps downloader downloads AGPS data for the next 30 days, GPS works without it just fine (and if AGPS is working it looks like you shouldn't notice much without it)
it seems it provides higher quality AGPS data then the default google servers (I'm still not clear on whether SUPL actually provides AGPS data or just suplements GPS with interim coordinates from wifi/cell towers)...
If somebody knows exactly how this works it would be nice to know, I spent a lot of time debugging this
Sorry to rez a dead thread but I didn't really want to start a new thread just for this.
I came across this process earlier and wasn't sure what it was.
So it's something to do with the GPS and how quickly it can locate you etc...
So it's not worth force closing it?
I'm abit warey atm, I downloaded a short movie onto my phone earlier using the FireFox browser, then when watching the film I got a notification pop up stating 'Installation Finished', I wasn't installing anything at the time, I tried to run Antivirus but it just keeps stating that my Scan is Outdated, so I installed Avast! AntiVir and that found nothing... AVG still states Scan is outdated though...
Anyway, I digress, this process is okay to have running right?
thanks,

I'm thinking about building an application for personal use. The details aren't important but one of the things i would like to be able to do is turn the wifi hotspot on or off. I've looked around, but haven't been able to find anything on the subject, or whether or not it's even possible.
Does anybody have some information on this?
Most ICS ROM's have that option built in...have you tried app store search or just a google search?

If you intend to have your phone automattically turn on wifi hotspot based on certain profiles, Tasker will do that for you. You can find it in the playstore. It's a paid app though.
Well, i suppose suggestions for apps that do the sort of thing i want to do. Unfortunately there's nothing out there that does what i want, because I want something rather unusual.
I spoke to a friend yesterday and he pointed me in the direction of the API i want (which contrary to my initial assumptions was not DHD specific), so when i have the time i can put together my tool.
Thanks anyway
Found several references to this question but all outdated or not relevant to the Gnex... is there a way to restrict a search to a specific forum ie the Gnex forum?
I just discovered that my disconnected Droid X can still access the net and the Play store, etc. I want to use my Gnex phone to do that too; but worry that it won't know I'm on WiFi and chew up data, and get git with a big, unexpected, bill for excess data use.
Is there an app or a Widget that will turn off, or disable, Data use when there is an active WiFi connection? So that I don't have to remember to do it when I get home or leave home?
I wonder about public WiFi connections; I wonder if automating the process would be a good idea after all; unless there were a way to choose the WiFi connection to access.
ps It looks like I may have found the answer in "Data On-Off" :victory:

Great you found the "answer", reported this to moderation team for closing.
Why would you even bother to bump/report it 72 hours later? The thread was fine where it was.
good day.

Because it had no replies; Because OP did not edit the title thread to include the [SOLVED] tag; Because the OP should have done it himself (reporting the thread for closing); Because it was 72h old, and not 3 months; I reported it to prevent the thread from being necrobumped, on a matter as trivial as this. If it's a 3rd party app OP was looking for, then this might even be more appropriate on Android General, since he "didn't want to remember" himself to shut data connection off, and there isn't a sw or a hw issue so..
Now, if my report didn't get this thread closed, this post (or the following) will.

Hello everybody!
I was doing some research in "wifi security"
and found that some phones can set the wifi chipset to monitor mode?
can we?
what wifi chipset do we have?

I'm rather concerned that you want to do this. If I understand correctly you want to crack wep passwords with your phone?

Just interested in wifi security... Besides don't answer a question with another question
It's possible with my tf101 (monitor mode), I just want to know if our HOX can do it too
(both wep and wpa)
i want to know the same thing. its for a school project. how to enable monitor mode in HTC One X?

Wep is hardly used anymore and so long as the router is yours "not given to you by your isp" then there are no legal implications.
Monitor mode comes down to the driver, someone could maybe create a driver that could enable it assuming our WiFi chip even has it.
Even then it may not even be stable enough to run anything off it.
Then there is the power draw, Nokia n900 can do these tasks but battery will be gone in ~4 hours, I doubt our phone would last very long.
If you're interested find a forum about it and get reading.
You could also look at backtrack, good a nice tool set.

Thank god.
I was wondering how long it would be before that part of the hardware was activated!
Now it needs to be smart enough to only turn on wifi when bluetooth isnt connected....
Good news :good:
This article puts SW3 img on it which makes me feel more exciting cannot wait for the next ver

I'd prefer NFC to be enabled so I can use my watch to scan tags and pay for stuff.
How would WiFi work?
To get data from your smartphone you need to do what? WiFi is usually turned off on the Smartphone.
Do they plan on letting your watch hit WiFi access points, solo (no smartphone)?
If they do I wonder if there will be a keyboard to enter passwords to access secure WiFi? (I do know you can sideload a keyboard)
Also the battery life on this device is the best I seen but it is not great.
Got to effect the battery.

Good question. My original thought would be that it would connect to your home wifi or whatever you want to connect to. Or it could be your phone I guess as well. Either way, wifi offers greater range than bluetooth and I can't wait for this release. Maybe wifi will only turn on when bluetooth disconnects as it thinks you're out of range. But also have a option to have it on all the time. We will see.
WiFi Direct
My assumption is that, since the device supports Bluetooth V3, it will use WiFi direct for faster transfers between phone and watch. With the lack of a keyboard on the device (which I would describe as a lack, actually) nothing else makes sense. And in that case MP3 files or other stuff can be transferred much more quickly. Also, installation of APKĀ“s and such can be done via WiFi direct.
But we will wait and see. According to the article, many more devices actually have a dormant WiFi module, as WiFi is built-in to the SnapDragon 400. The question is whether or not the manufacturer included an appropriate antenna complex in the device.
Maybe it can stay tethered when on the same Wi-Fi as your phone. That would be killer...I don't carry my phone around the house.

Exactly why I want WiFi. I take my watch off in my house now because it disconnect too often. Give me WiFi an I'll be set.

I'm really hoping that it google stalks the xda forums because I'm really hoping that the WiFi function works as follows.
You leave your phone at home. Your watch goes out with you.
It finds a recognised WiFi hotspot outside and it automatically connected to it and to the internet.
It seeks out your phone at home and syncs with it getting all your stuff pushed to you watch. Now that's a true smart watch.

Indeed. I will have NFC tags all over the place once this gets activated. Nightstand, the inside of my car door, laptop, desk, girlfriend.
They really should make NFC a priority to beat Apple to it, though, before their watch comes out.

The way I would do it is to simply have the saved WiFi networks list from you phone be synced up with the watch via bluetooth. And to save battery, only have the watch look for one of these WiFi networks IF it loses the bluetooth connection with your phone. Not sure if that's how it would work, but that would make sense to me. That way, it's seemless, requires little or no user input, and notifications just work, regardless of whether phone is in range or not.
aaaand here it comes:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...te-with-wifi-support-always-on-apps-and-more/
Hopefully the roll out is pretty quick! Can't wait to have the wifi feature.
They say over the coming weeks.. i wouldn't hold my breath for anything quick...
(Though, i am sure it will be here before the long forgotten replacement bands for the watch... )
EDIT: Two other features not mentioned in the first article: http://www.androidpolice.com/2015/0...djustable-font-size-and-pop-up-notifications/
