So I'm trying to install the new Lollipop preview, but everytime I boot to fastboot and plug the device into my Mac it freezes. It's rooted and unlocked, does that make a difference? If I go to fastboot without being plugged in it functions as expected, letting me move up/down, but as soon as I plug it in it doesn't respond to anything and I have to hold power to force restart.
EDIT: Fixed. I think it was the cable. I used a different cable when I got home and it works fine now.

So i've been trying to root my phone for quite some time and everytime it fails.
I recently found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1533#tutorial
Everything was working fine until i got to the part ( fastboot oem get_identifier_token.) When i type that in it would just say
(Waiting for device) and never does anything for a long time.
also when i click my power button and volume down at the same time it does not go in fast boot mode for some reason and i have no idea why!
so does anyone have any solutions?
Just hold down the power and vol down and wait until the bootloader shows up, then use vol to scroll until you can select fastboot, then plug into a usb port.
Also, try a different usb port on your computer. Not sure why this sometimes works, but sometimes it does. Sometimes.

Thank you! that miraculously worked somehow aha !
I know right! Crazy.
the phone work when the wire is not connect but when the wire is connected to the phone and the outlet or the computer. the phone turns off and wont turn on till the wire is removed. it will not in to recovery or anything like that. when u hold the power button and volume down together it shows the selection but turns of immediately. same with fastboot. the phone turns on and works. it is rooted, unlock and running a custom rom. it will boot into recovery with rom manager though
Im able to get into twrp recovery, and fastboot mode but not download mode... I wanted to put the phone back into stock and i thought wiping out everything would do so but i guess not.
Whenever i press the download mode command which i did was volume up down and power then plug into the laptop the 3 buttons will flash but my laptop won recognized it. I tried installing the LG Optimus G drivers but still unable to install it. Also TWRP says that the phone isnt rooted anymore and has no OS.

First off it's Vol Up + Vol Down while powered off and then plug into computer. DO NOT press the power button.
Secondly what ver. of windows and did the computer have any issues prior with connecting to the phone?
There is another fix but it's a bit drastic and wouldn't recommend it at this point.

oh well that might be the reason why. il try it out..im using windows 7 and it was working before i wiped everything.
link me to that fix if anything thanks
On my phone, Download Mode is only accessed when Vol + and - and power from a powered off state, while any USB cord is plugged in, either to a PC, or a wall charger.
After flashing, i noticed that the phone has some issues powering on and off normally i.e. phone completely died, plug the phone into the charger, screen turns on, phone is theoretically charging, but does not show any charging display icon. Which then forces me to unplug the phone, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, press and hold the power again to turn the phone on, and immediately plug it into the charger in order to get the phone to normally boot up. I flashed CM 10.2 from the original android dev thread. I think that was just a design flaw that LG had originally, but meh, what can i say.
Q&A?

So i discovered a strange thing from my G3 while trying to upgrade to 10E. My phone is unable to enter download mode to flash the update. I have done the procedure a in the flashing thread:
-turn off phone
-unplug USB
-hold down volume up
-plug USB
i can head windows play the device connected sound then proceed with the phone just displaying the normal charging display.
also, adb reboot download does not work, adb reboot recovery does.

I had same issue, just make sure that you plug in the USB cable fast after you hold the volume up and also make sure you continue to hold the volume up.

I tried a thousand times but every time it just start up mobile phone instead of going to Download Mode.
Remove the battery for a few seconds and be sure to plug into usb 2 and not into usb 3 port on your pc
I tried that too. Removed battery for seconds and connected to USB 2.0 but same issue. I wonder it connects to PC and LG Pc Suite without any problems. I'm sure all rivers are already installed but wonder why it can't enter download mode.
I lost LG original USB cable and use other cables ( I tried many ).
What's wrong then?!!! I even tried Windows XP and 8.1 but both same issue!
I'm having the same issue only I think it's because I really bricked my phone, not able to boot up or anything.
My gives me an error saying fast boot and a couple of commands with a black screen, Unable to get to download mode
HTC One M8 won't boot, orange LED blinks once when connected to power (doesn't matter wether USB or wall charger). PC plays the sound for new device but it doesnt show up in win explorer.
The device has the latest TWRP and an unlocked bootloader (LOS 14.1 was installed by me). USB debugging should be OFF.
I'm a total noob when it comes to ADB, so im not sure how to check if ADB recognizes the device

It won't. adb won't work, if the phone isn't powered on, and booted either to OS or TWRP. Fastboot won't work, unless the phone is booted to bootloader-fastboot mode. So neither adb or fastboot will work if the phone isn't powered on.
Try leaving the phone on charger for a few hours. Then hold power, or power+vol up for a minute or so, and see if it reboots. I've had my M8 just randomly power off once in a while, mostly non-responsive. Then holding the buttons as described, made it boot again. The first time it happened, I was scared my trusty old M8 finally was dead.
Hi there,
I had the same problem, you have to change the battery cause it's come to death and after that you have to reflash your rom. It's work for me and now my battery run two days (wifi, gps, facebook and music running no stop).
