This might sound stupid but try taking the back cover off and putting it back on, it worked for me

Any idea why?

Hmmmm, I did notice there was a bug with auto-brightness causing it to turn itself off randomly.
Will try it, see how it goes. Cheers.
This was my problem too. Thanks for the solution!
Yeah, thanks. No more reboots

I have my Note 2 set up the same way I had my Note 1 set up (using Dialer One) to make calls.
When I finish a call and take the phone away from my ear, the screen takes much longer to come back on than my Note 1 did.
Anyone else seen this?

Do you have the same setup as me, or just the same problem (let's try to narrow it down)?
I don't know if it is the same issue, but my problem with proximity sensor is when using "quick glance" feature...it takes to much to wake up the screen (aprox. 3 sec). I don;t know if it-s the sensor or some other internal settings...
I never used #GNote so I can't tell which one much quicker...
Same problem
I have Galaxy Note 2 on AT&T. I backed up my S3 and restored to it but I don't know if that is the problem.
It takes 3 seconds if I am mid call but I pull my phone down to do something else. My S3 didn't have this problem, and I am NOT using Dialer One. What the hell is the problem, does anyone know?
I have the ATT version and have the same problem.
It is really anoying and hope there is solution soon
If anyone still have this problem, i have a solution. In google market there is an app ''softlocker''. for me solve the problem. And its good for lockscreen when you wake phone from sleep

Hi,
I have noticed that sometimes the auto screen rotation doesn't work anymore. I have tried to disable and enable again the screen rotation icon but it doesnt help. The only way to restore the screen rotation is to reboot my Note2.
It happens every time after having used a few days my device.
Any idea what could be the reason for this bug?
I am using a stock Rom with root.
Smart rotation is off.

I have just noticed that enabling and disabling the Smart rotation ( in settings-display) restores the auto screen rotation.

You can try and recalibrate gyroscope in settings-motion-advance settings-gyroscope calibration.

Yes and every trick stopped working.
I have installed the app "Ultimate Rotation control" . With this app, I can force applications to rotate but it doesn't
work when the rotation is set to "auto" ( of course until I reboot)
Daniel
Bummer! I have the same bug but it is the only bug so I'm not going to complain too much!

Me too.
I think but I am not sure that the bug appeared after I have flashed a Perseus Kernel (I see that you have also
a Perseus kernel)
Maybey i found the problem
I maybey found the problem for the screen rotation glich!
I've done my reboots and taking the battery out etc...but after a while the problem kept returning!
Now....i've been wondering around on some forums and i found and read that they have the same issues after the 4.1.2 update!
So.....i tried all the apps on my phone.....exept one!...YOUTUBE!
I have uninstalled youtube and also turned it OFF in the aplication manager!
rebooted my phone!...and gues what?.....my note 2 is running like sunshine and no screen rotation problems! (knock on wood)
Sometimes when you put like a..news app on...some news apps also use Youtube for a movie to show you whats happening wright?
So if you didnt used youtube but did lool at your news app..youtube gets activated without you knowing it!
And then...also yhe screen rotation glitch returned!
Since i put toutube off.....problem GONNE!
But then again.im not a specialist!...im using:
baseband: N7100XXDLK7
Version 4,1,2
Kernel: 3.0.31-679347
I have a unbranded phone!
But ive read on forums that this is a problem for ALL THE NOTE 2's after the update!
Greets and help yourselff
Mike.
Tick auto display brightness and it will rotate!
I too got the same problem some times back. And along with that the network was also not getting detected. Some of my friend told that the network IS is gone. But I went to the service station and the software up gradation makes it alright.

Did we ever figure out a real fix for this? Was the true cause of the problem ever even isolated? I am aware of the "auto brightness trick", but have also heard about fumbling around with the multi window feature or opening the dialer to "unlock" it.

Anyone here experiencing uncalibrated compass or rather if they have installed a compass app and shows different orientation?
Does anyone know how to calibrate well their compass?
Moving the phone in a figure of 8 horizontally doesn't work I've even tried vertically...
I'm using Tiny Compass and I've tried installing it on different android phones and tablets only the grand show a different orientation...
I use always a compass and gps apps due to nature of my work
Thanks in advance..
+1.
Think it is weak magnetic sensor.

the thing about caliberation iis just go to settings->motion->senstivity settings->gyroscope caliberation ... then place your phone on a flat surface and tap caliberate....
this may solve ur problem probably..
otherwise just go to dialer and type *#0*# u will see a new window , select sensor from their and see if all of them are working properly...:good:

then there are two options bro... probably there may be some error (lyk some kind f file missing or things lyk dat) if u r on stock rom just take backup of everything and factory reset your phone... sometimes it happens..
still if u r facing same problems i must say contact samsung servICE center to get ur phones motherboard replaced...as it may also be a hardware bug...
ultimately if u r on custom rom.. ask its developer to help u out..
Anyway I will contact Samsung service center.

I tried calibrated before, I just shake my phone like a "madman" in the sensor monitor section (*#0*#). Until you see the arrow pointer is blue and indicate 3. Then you have successfully calibrated it. Hope that helps

Good day all,
I have a problem with my nexus 7 (2013)'s auto rotation .It suddenly stopped for no reason. is there a solution for this problem and if I put a custom Rom does it fix this thing??
Please Help
Thanks
Settings / accessibility /auto rotate screen is it checked?
Does it happen everywhere, even in apps? I would check the settings first and maybe try a cold-boot and then a reset on the device.

it does not work even in the games. it doesn't rotate unless an app designed for vertical or horizontal .
I did I factory reset and it didn't work. If you have something tell me what to do please.

I had this problem as well a few days ago. What I did (which seemed to fix it) was I went in recovery and wiped my dalvic cache. 3 days since and only time will tell if this is a permanent solution.:fingers-crossed:
Yesterday I had also a rotation problem:
When I set autorotation to "off“, it always went to landscape mode, regardless in which position it was atm. It was absolutely not possible to lock the screen rotation in portrait mode.
After a reboot all was back to normal - strange though!

mine just got the same problem since yesterday! really need help
My rotation isn't working nor is the gyroscope. Started on stock UN rooted , then I rooted it and flashed kangabean and now the latest official CM build and it isn't working on any of those either. I'm thinking mine is hardware and not software related

We'll turns out that my other nexus 7 tab that I got for my mother is having the same issues with the accelerometer and gyroscope like I am. So I am going to be taking both back to bestbuy and either exchanging them or returning them.
