[Q] Nexus bought in china strange ROM - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi. First of all this is not a standard "bought in China" thread.
Phone is Samsung Galaxy Nexus i9250
Althought the phone was sold as new it was pre rooted with a custom ROM which I believe came from SlimRoms.
I have some experience rooting my previous phones but for some reason nothing works on this phone. I've tried CM but always fails, same with downloading ROMS direct from ClockworkMod.
I would really like to change it to run CM but to be honest any change would be welcome but its like something I've never encountered before is blocking any change.
If anyone could help me I'd be a very happy man
I've attached a screenshot from the phone showing the kernel and ROM it came with.

Hi! I think in your situation the best way for your nexus is to restore all to stock flashing the google factory image (you can find it here)
After that you can start to reunclock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery or what you prefer.
Tell me if u have some problem to flashing the factory image

Hi, thanks for the advice, I thought you were onto something but unfortunatly not. I have no idea what the seller did to this phone but its like its locked out. I can't get any computer, software or comand to recognise it. It's as if once it conects to the computer its nothing more than a USB even in bootloader it's not seen.

[Q] Why does everything go wrong when I try to do it?

Okay, this might not be the place to get some divine intervention to start (or stop) happening, but I'm really starting to get a nervous breakdown and I desperately need some help. I'm going to tell you my story, because it's my last resort before throwing this phone in a fire and never buy anything Samsung related ever.
So the phone came out of the box and for some magic reason I got the bootloader unlocked and phone rooted. It all started with installing CWM I think. This stopped my phone from taking OTA updates. Of course I could have known, but for some reason I installed CWM. I don't know why! I regret it, I don't even want a different ROM installed, I thought it was necessary to root the phone. So when I got the OTA, at first I was like YEAH YEAH, but then the on the back laying android with the exclamation mark turned up and I felt like I wanted to kill someone. It was 2 in the morning and I had to get up early to go to Dublin for two weeks. This was really not the time...
So after trying a few times of getting the OTA update message again and failing every time I got it, I started searching. Yes, CWM is installed so you can't OTA they all said. Nice, now I hate on the back laying androids AND CWM. Of course the one to hate is me, but I already hate myself so that's no use. Anyway I used the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit 5.6 to put back stock recovery. Now I had to wait a few weeks again before the update turned up again... By this time the phone started to be REALLY slow when scrolling through the home screen(s). It also is empty before the day is done, but I don't know if that's because of the phone being f'ed up or because I'm too demanding.
Anyway, back to the story. Finally the update came about a week ago, and again I was like YEAH YEAH! But then the on the back laying android with the exclamation mark turned up and I felt like I wanted to kill someone. To make things more fun it did a reset of my Go Launcher, 7 screens of widgets and autistic arranged shortcuts gone... Of course I wanted to try again, so this morning the OTA came again and had the same result. By now I killed quite a few, so this has to end, but don't worry there is more torment ahead.
I can't figure out what is wrong now, so I thought, f~ this s~, this phone deserves a full undress and back to the womb operation. So installing all Galaxy Nexus Toolkit v6.0 stuff and drivers. Connect phone, start toolkit, choose 3 (GSM 4.0.2. build ICL53F), phone turns up in main menu, try to put back recovery, -waiting for device-...
It stopped... Or it didn't really stop, it just stood there saying, -waiting for device-... So again a few innocent people died. Tried a different choice, (relock bootloader, just to give the phone a good beating) -waiting for device-...
I raged, pulled my hair, again killed a few, silently cried in a corner and finally started typing this eulogy...
Please kind sirs and madams, help me get this phone back to stock 4.0.4, accepting OTA, bootloader unlocked and rooted, I'm really desperate...
Why did you even root it? If u have root and cwm, you should be able to flash the rooted version of whatever stock os update you want. OTA's are a waste, you just wait a few hours for xda devs to root it and make it flash able.

How do you proceed?
First you need the SDK for you system
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
After this you have to start the SDK manager and install "Android SDK Tools" and "Android SDK Plattform-tools" if you are using Windows you have to install USB drivers too. You could find this under the point "Extras".
After that you have to download the factory image to clean your device, once.
(Notice your SD-Card gets wiped)
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
Look for right version, which fits to your device.
Now you have to bring your telefon into the bootloader by pressing all 3 buttons at the same time Volume+/Volume-/Power. After this you have to unlock your bootloader if you don't already done this.
Now plug in your phone into your computer an go into the unpacked folder from your factory image. There would be an file called flash-all. You have to run this file. Now your phone is flashed with stock rom, stock kernel newest baseband and stock recovery. Now you get ota updates from google. After this you should look for an howto root your phone in the developer section. You don't have to install clockworkmod recovery for rooting. But clockworkmod isn't change the ota. You get OTA with cwm.
Hope i understand your problem an you could understand my bad english. But i want to help. If some questions ask here into the thread.
regards

I'm out of the house a lot, leaving for Brussels in a couple of hours. I don't want the hassle anymore. I just want to be able to leave the house to go to another hotel and update OTA. I don't have time for all this flashing stuff.

When the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit says "-waiting for device-..." you need to turn off your phone, press the volume down then the volume up then the power button together. Once you have done that the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit will continue.
There is also tutorials on youtube on how to use the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit.
I hope that helps.
If you want to head back to stock ROM, then one of the ways to do it would be to install Android SDK & then follow the instructions from Google developers site.
Else you can try using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit to do this for you. I think the latest version is 5.7.

Ah yes, I now see where I went wrong with the toolkit, I didn't put the phone in fastboot. Stupid...
How is the stock recovery supposed to look like? After putting back stock recovery with the GN Toolkit, I press 'vol+/vol-/power' and choose recovery. It then displays the belly up android with exclamation mark. Is that the way it should be? Am I doin' it wrong?
yes it is the stock recovery. But you dont need it. Flashing everything into fastboot mode(bootloader)
So, I'm currently running a stock phone, but OTA won't update my phone...? Why is OTA constantly failing if I'm running everything stock? Is my bootloader supposed to be locked? Is a rooted phone not updated OTA?
If you flashed the latest Factory-Image there is no OTA out there. It is the newest version of ICS for your Device.
Maybe i don't understand what you mean with failing OTA. Could you explain it a little bit more?
As I said in the long story, I'm currently 4.0.2. and every time when my phone says, "You have update 4.0.4. standing by, please reboot" it fails.
i would prefer to flash the factory image and root your phone again
then you have a cleaned phone and OTA should work but you don't need them because you are at latest version.
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images
i wrote how you could flash it page before, remeber you wipe your data from sdcard

I don't know if I can answer why the OTA isn't working (I'll leave that to smarter men than I), but having an unlocked bootloader and root access won't stop the OTA. I had my phone in that state when the 4.0.4 update came out and all was fine, just had to run the command to get root of my phone again as OTA removes root.
Ah great! S~ has just hit the fan, it's bootlooping after trying option 8 (flash stock rom from google). Oh I really am going to kill myself sooner or later...
Edit: not killing myself yet, just had to pull the battery... Let's see what I f~ up next...
Very strange you problems i don't know the Toolkit and don't know how it flash the stock rom. But i could imagin that it only flash rom and not the other things like recovery and so on.
Try out the hard way without toolkit and use sdk and included batch file into the factory image. it is the clean way and you see whats done.
Ok, I now rebooted the phone after option 8 in the toolkit and it seems I'm running 4.0.4. I have to go to Brussels now for two weeks, but I'll try to post some screenshots later. I'll also be back to thank all of you for holding my hand, I just don't have the time right now. Of course this won't be my last problem (I still have a TF101 that needs some RMA action), but I hope I won't be needing too much time consuming support anymore.
Just got in the hotel, and unable to use my phone in Belgium. No available network... Wifi works, 2G/3G works in The Netherlands, 2G/3G unavailable in Belgium...

If you dont want to root and or flash roms, and knowing android its buggy and you gotta be stuffing with the phone all time to be able to be up to date, cuz even google releases updates oftem and even with OTA things can go wrong, meaning you have to do stuff again...
Dont blame Samsung or google the whole system needs some fixes all time.. I was devoted to stock but after i tried AOKP (Milestones) i wont ever go back to stock and or another rom, these guys has loads of features for a better user experience, stable as hell, and great support, but as you show with your very active/traveling life and those killer instints (poor innocent people), why dont you just go Iphone?
No need to flash anything and will plain work... Thats it no need to worry about anything but being an apple fan boy xDD
Cheers

Phone Bricked, can anyone help please??

so yesterday i installed the new optimus de rom and it started up fine and everything was okay, then today i realized my 3g wasnt working and usually thats no big deal because all i have to do is restore my efs in the app FreeG (I think thats what its called, I might be wrong). Well right after i did that, i hit restart phone and it turned off then wouldnt come back on. Then i finally got to the LG symbol but it will turn off then the screen will be on but will just show black. I cant boot in to recovery nor can i do anything on it at all, when i plug it in the charger it says "battery.png is missing, battery: 75%". I took my phone in to sprint and they did a reset although that didnt do anything so there sending me a new one. Now my question is, is there any way I can open up my phones folder so i can get my pictures and everything that was on it? My pics were very important to me and i dont want to lose them, thats all i need so if some could help me get them that would be much appreciated, thanks.

The key here is going to be getting back into recovery. Have you tried getting into Download Mode? If you saw the LG logo then you SHOULD be able to get into download mode. Make sure the phone is completely powered off. Connect the USB to your pc but before you connect the other end to your phone, hold volume up then connect it. You should see "Download Mode" on the screen. You will see other directions for download mode but for me this always works, usb to pc, hold volume up then plug the phone in while still holding the volume up. If you can get into Download Mode you can flash a teenybin to get back into recovery following the guide in this thread here.
Currently even if you can get into Download Mode adb might not recognize your phone(at least it never did for me). Once you flash a teenybin using LGNPST, you should be able to get into Recovery. Once in Recovery you can use adb to pull your files off of the phone and onto your computer. I use it from a linux terminal but there are guides available for Windows if that's what you use. The adb guide should be easy to find on xda(just search) so I haven't linked to it. Once adb is set up on your computer AND you can get into Recovery you can use the command 'adb pull /data/media' without quotations and it will copy the contents of your internal storage to your pc. However if you can get into recovery you do have other options for just getting the phone back up and running. This guide here should also help.
If you are familiar with irc(internet relay chat) you can hop onto freenode and enter the #lg-optimus-g channel. As soon as you enter the channel you will see "Need Help? You won't read this but..." followed by a link. All the files for LGNPST, teenybins, and in depth tutorials on fixing a soft brick will be found there. I hope this helps you and hooray for me because this is my 200th post!
PS - If you can't get into Download Mode then your secondary bootloader is gone and there isn't anything you can do(to my knowledge). However, like I said, if you saw the LG logo at all, Download mode should still be an option. Also keep in mind these instructions are for the Sprint(ls970) lg optimis g. I believe the keys are flipped on AT&T/International models(Volume Down when you plug it in to get to Download Mode).

Thank you for the response, i just tryed to get in to download mode and it went in to it fine. I would try to do all that to repair it but I dont want sprint to see that its rooted and it I cant have it be fixed when the new phone comes in, the only thing that i want is to get my files from it. Is there any way that I can just do that but leave the phone the way it is? (Not booting up passed the lg logo) I want the new phone because my current Optimus G's battery is going pretty bad I think and I would like a new one.

There are plenty of ways to get it stuck at the lg logo, sometimes it happens just from dirty flashing a rom, sometimes because you install a rom without wiping dalvik/cache. But you should know if you are on Sprint, one of the reasons I stick with them(even though their coverage is horrible in my area) is because rooting DOES NOT void your warranty with Sprint. They will warn you against it but they are the only carrier that allows rooting and will still fix your phone. Here is some info on that here. They won't advertise it but it's the truth. But bricking your phone intentionally is pretty easy I think. After getting back your data, just go into recovery and start deleting stuff you normally wouldn't. It's similar to opening up your car's hood and saying "This looks important" and ripping it out, lol. At this point that's what I would do, fixing your rooted phone is within their warranty, replacing it(which is what you want) I'm not 100% on. Although the post I linked to, says even ordering a replacement on a rooted phone is covered. Its in a reply on that page, you'll see another link. So you could get your info, use a different LGNPST file to set your phone back to factory(which will relock the bootloader and lose root) and then you can do what you did to get there in the first place or root it and start deleting important files with a root explorer to get it back to being stuck. Hope this helps.

Oh wow I never knew that but that helps a lot thanks for the help, the sprint guy said theydid a master reset or hard reset or soemthing like that, does that mean it deleted all my pictures and everything? And i understand what you mean to rebrick it that's pretty simple. When i get my new optimus is there a new root out for the update? And what roms do you prefer?

If they did a hard reset it is possible that it wiped everything but not a definite. I purchased my phone from Best Buy and was on zvb. When the zvc update came through it messed my phone up(which is why you don't take OTA's once rooted without further knowledge/modifications) so I took it to Best Buy and they said they did a hard reset to fix it. It worked, my phone booted back up and my internal was fine. However, that's Best Buy and they barely know what they are doing so it may have been a soft reset, I am not 100% sure. As for a new root for the update, I received another phone shortly after because the glass back on mine broke and Best Buy replaced it with a whole new phone. It was on zvc and I used an app named Framaroot with the Gandalf exploit option and it worked fine for me. I have heard of others having issues with that method but for me, it worked and has stuck.
Fiddy619's universal root method seems to be the preferred way for our phone, look in the general section here for a thread by engine95 to see what I mean. After I rooted with Framaroot I then used FreeGee and unlocked the bootloader then made a total nandroid backup of my stock in TWRP before going further. I also copied the backup to my PC just in case.
As for my preferred roms, if we are talking about Android 4.4 both Vanir and PSX are my personal favorites. However as you can tell from my signature I am still using stock zvc android 4.1.2. I have flashed just about every rom available for our phone but my daily driver is stock that I have modified manually(different kernel, removed bloat ware, minor modifications and tweaks, etc). For android 4.3 I have had the best experience with CM10.2 and cfxe. I have not tried CM11(based on 4.4) for awhile but it seems to have overwhelming support - Cyanogenmod usually does.
Really when it comes to roms it's personal preference. They are all very similar with different tweaks/additions. As for which one is the most stable that is also a tricky question. Even though we have the same model of phone, I have seen how picky they can be from one to the other. My roommates have the EXACT same phone, installing CM10.2 worked fine for two of us, but one lost GPS and I had to fix it.
My best advice for when you get your new phone is to backup your working stock and then have fun flashing different things making sure you follow the instructions per rom exactly. It's always a good idea after making your backup(if planning to install another rom) to wipe everything except your internal storage and do a clean install of the rom and gapps. Then, test it for a day or so because sometimes it takes time to settle in. It's a shame that Optimus DE gave you issues, it was rock solid for me, again, these phones are picky! But one of the main reasons I stayed with stock is because the AOSP based cameras leave much to be desired when compared to the LG camera. Again it's just personal preference because some don't like the lg camera.
If you have any other issues or questions I will be glad to help if I can. A lot of the people you see who are active on the forums are very knowledgeable, as long as you ask politely most will be glad to help.

Okay Im going to try some new roms out when I get my new phone, I would like to try out an AOSP Kitkat Rom but I couldnt get one to flash last time I tryed but I will figure that out later when I get it. Now back to my Bricked Optimus, I want to try the teenybin method although I dont understand the directions... the second step tells me to flash but how can I do that without recovery? and it doesnt say anything about entering in download mode which is the only thing I can do, am I forgetting something? And thank you for the help Tesla I really appreciate it, Ive had more assistance from you than anyone else.

Are you a windows user? The teenybin isn't flashed from recovery it is flashed from a tool called LGNPST which is a Windows program. I am going to private message you a link. It will have links for downloading and installing LGNPST on your PC. It says that you will lose all your data but if you are using the teenybin you shouldn't. It's LG's tool for flashing firmware and gives that warning regardless of what you flash. And you're welcome, coming from an EVO 4G this phone is very different and plenty of people have helped me - just paying it forward.

Hey I got in to recovery through the Teenybin although the reset that they did deleted all of my stuff so Im kinda bummed:/ but its okay cause I got my new Optimus today and its brand new so Im happy with it. Thanks again for all of the help. Thats funny that you used to have an EVO 4G because I had it for so long and thats the phone I switched back to when my LG got bricked, but let me tell you Im glad to be back to the Optimus haha the EVO 4G is just way to slow anymore. Now that I have this new Optimus which root method should I go with? Its currently runnning ZVB (4.1.2) should I update the software? It says theres a software update available but I know that sometimes they dont have roots out for those updates so how should I start with this process again with the new phone in your opinion? I havnt done this in forever (going on a year) so I cant really remember everything that I had to do.

Let your phone update before rooting and unlocking. You should end up with ZVC.
Then, you have a choice on rooting. @HPTesla will say Framaroot. I'd say use fiddy Universal root.
Then DL FreeGee from the Playstore, use the"mako" version of TWRP/CWM, your choice, I'd do with TWRP and you'll be unlocked.
Back it up in recovery and you'll be good to go.

The fiddy universal looks easier to me so I will probably use that although its not very Important which ever one is better I will use, and what recovery do you think is better? I used TWRP before but is the other one any better? I will probably go with that anyways Im just trying to get some opinions in. And what ROM do you use? I think Im gonna start out with the stock rooted ROM but theres still some stuff I want from the DE ROM like the G2 keyboard and other features from the G2, is there any way I can get those? And have you had any experience with the KitKat ROMs? Those interest me too

Exactly what he said, framaroot was quick and easy for me, but the lgog is so damn picky and fiddy seems to be the preferred method so use it just to be safe. I had zero issues with framaroot but I think I've just been lucky. And definitely update to zvc before doing either. I'd also update prl and profile for good measure.
That sucks that you lost all of your data, they must have actually did a hard reset where as BestBuy told me they did a hard reset and actually did a soft reset. But it's BestBuy so I never expect much. I softbricked my lgog the day after I got it using the GAIO tool(before finding out about FreeGee) and they fixed it with a soft reset. The guy called the manager over and the manager asked me if I tried unlocking the bootloader and I played dumb. My exact words were "What the hell is a bootloader?" and he immediately fixed it. But I was shocked anyone at BestBuy would even know that. Lmao.
As for my EVO, the micro usb port broke so I was charging it for two months like MacGyver, literally stipped the usb charging wire and hooked it straight into the positive/negative terminals in the battery while turned off! It was a fire hazard but it did the trick, lol. And luckily it had external sd(my one big gripe about the lgog) so I could still get my stuff off of it even without usb. I did love that phone, but you're right, it's incredibly slow now compared to the wonderful lgog.
And as always you are quite welcome!

I think the reason I say framaroot is bc its also super easy, install the app, pick gandalf exploit and it will do it's thing - done without ever connecting to a pc. But @engine95 is right, fiddy is more stable so use that. As for TWRP, I love 2.5.0.0 but for KK roms you have to use the one that comes with updated FreeGee, TWRP 2.6.3.x because of the SELinux changes Google made with 4.4. TWRP 2.6 was unstable originally but has since become just as stable as 2.5 according to most. OpTimuS DE was rock solid for me, as for getting some of the G2 apps, I'm not certain. It's doable but I don't know how difficult it would be because I've never tried to install them elsewhere. And I already gave you my choice of best current KK roms but today I found out a few guys are trying to get OMNI official for us. When that happens I think I will be switching to OMNI because they have been producing some impressive commits/tweaks that you won't find elsewhere. Just look through xda news to see what I mean, OMNI is on a roll!

I prefer TWRP just because that has always been our best one since the beginning. Now that all the versions of the OG are coming together though both are fine.
I like stock, but Lrod's OpTimuS 5.0 is my daily. The G2 adds he made got me hooked.
If your gonna try to pull some stuff from DE, check with Lrod. He's made alot of changes to a lot of files making it difficult. For me at least.
I've ran all the KK Roms and I liked them all. PSX is probably my favorite though. I liked Liquid in its early days, pre KK. I'm not sure it's up to KK yet.

Again, I think you're right on all fronts. Liquid was smooth(heh) but it hasn't been long since we received an official 4.3 so I don't think they're up to 4.4. And same goes for the G2 apps, sometimes it's as simple as pulling an apk out of a zip and pushing it to system/apps and changing permissions but I think Lrod did a lot of work to get the G2 apps working on our phone because they required certain dependencies/modified frameworks.

You have to root before unlocking.
Make sure your phone has at least 70 percent charge or more!!
Go to Settings: Settings>Security>Unknown sources checked: Settings>Developer Options>USB Debugging checked, Settings> Display>Screen Timeout - at least 5 min
from fiddy thread.
Directions
1. Unzip the zip file
2. Make sure USB Debugging is on, and you are in Charge only Mode
3. Run the CurrentRoot.bat, wait for the prompt. (Can now be run as admin if you wish, Still works running as regular user tho. Thanks robisodd)
4. Change to MTP Mode
5. Just ignore when your computer asks how to view files on your device.
6. Press enter in the CMD prompt to continue.
7. Done.
You shouldn't have any issues.
If you do, then try Framaroot. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2130276 and follow those directions.
Follow this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2050582 It has all the info on rooting and unlocking
Edit. You may have to root as admin/not admin, try both.
Edit #2 Also, do not use USB 3.0 ports. They are iffy for this stuff. LGNPST included

Okay i will try this later when i have access to a computer, but the last root i tryed told me it was successful although it didnt restart my phone or anything it just said it was in the command prompt. I will try again cause i dont think it did anything. But i have a question about roms, i am most likely going to flash the DE 5.0 again because i like it with the g2 keyboard and i kind of like the lg feel to it but the only problem is google play music always gives me an error when im playing songs and it always has. I heard aosp roms dont have that problen so in your opinion what is the most stable aosp rom with all features working like gps and everything??

AOSP SuperNexus has been getting good reviews here in the forums but I haven't tried it yet. I would give that one a shot though. I'd flash GAPPS standard with it instead of GAPPS core as well. This is just generally speaking with any of the AOSP roms.
The directions @engine95 gave you for fiddy are spot on(as usual ), specifically having the phone in charge only mode instead of mtp. I think a lot of people have missed that step and it won't work in mtp. Using usb 2.0 is another good tip.
And if your phone didn't reboot, you probably arent rooted. Easiest way to check that you are rooted is by going into the app drawer and seeing either Superuser or SuperSu app. If it's there, you're rooted, if not, it didnt work. If it said it worked but didnt reboot, Im assuming you rebooted manually? It sounds silly but sometimes it's as simple as that. But again, after rebooting if one of those apps arent there, you are not rooted.
EDIT: I've never tried rooting with fiddy without being in charge only mode, Im wondering if being in mtp may install supersu/superuser app but not the binary? Probably not but I could be wrong. Just wondering if there is any possible way that the app could be there but you still wouldn't have root privileges. For me, if the app is there, I'm rooted but I don't pretend to know everything(far from it, lol).
EDIT#2: Once you are rooted and recovery is installed, here is the link to SuperNexus.
EDIT#3: And I can't stress this one enough....after rooting and unlocking the bootloader, before flashing ANYTHING, make a full backup of your stock AND copy the TWRP folder(with your backup in it) to a computer, JUST IN CASE! That way you will always have a backup elsewhere, even if something goes wrong with your phone's internal storage. Better safe than sorry!!! And it's also best to copy the entire TWRP folder.
@HPTesla You're on a roll!
Go with everything he's said.
I don't use Google music ,so I'm of little help there.
Almost every ROM has its quirks, and it's just a matter of finding the one that does what you need/want.
Our devs have given us a lot of options. And I know, I sure appreciate them.

so yesterday i installed the new optimus de rom and it started up fine and everything was okay, then today i realized my 3g wasnt working and usually thats no big deal because all i have to do is restore my efs in the app FreeG (I think thats what its called, I might be wrong).

I ran OpTiMuS for a long time and every time I would try new roms, decide I didn't like or whatever and go back, I'd always have to 1. Dial ##72786# 2. Let it self activate sometimes twice, but usually just once before I would pick up 3g/4g. May have just been my phone but you may try that out if you go back to optimus De. Over all, my favorite stock like rom though.

Blu Advance 4.0 L A010U ROMs

Hey guys,
I really need to find at least the stock ROM for the new-ish Blu Advance 4.0L (model A010U), because the most recent OTA update unforgivingly bricked mine. Now I want to try to re-flash the stock ROM, but I am also open to custom ROMs, if there are any available. Please help me out! Thanks in advance
I am really surprised no one has replied yet, but again I am facing the same problem and I've been searching the Internet for one month now and I found absolutely nothing for this phone (specifically for version A010U).
So I am going to post a different question in the hopes that someone will read it and help us out:
I have two Blu Advance 4.0 L A010U phones, which are identical except for the color (white and green). They were manufactured a month apart one in 10/2015 and one in 9/2015.
Unfortunately after only a couple of months of light use and for no apparent reason (did not drop it, or wet it, etc) it started going through a boot loop. It will start, show the "bold like us" logo then restart again without making it to the operating system at all. Like I said I've been looking for over a month to find a ROM (stock or modded) to reflash but with no luck. Then I had an idea. Since I have the other identical phone that's working fine, is there a trick I can do using the working phone to create a ROM that I can use in my broken one. By the way, the non working phone will allow me to get into the recovery menu, but unfortunately nothing happens if I wipe the cache or even if I reset to factory defaults.
Anyone knows what's causing that "boot loop", how to fix it and where to find a ROM or even "extract" or "create" one using a working Advance 4.0 L ???
Thank you very much!
Man I wish I knew. I'm kinda a novice. I have the same phone with a similar problem... I downloaded the recent ota update and the first time it said it couldn't unzip it. I tried again and it seemed to work but when it rebooted into recovery it said there was an error... So it won't boot up, it just goes to the screen that says "no command". I'm pretty sure the there's a way to make a copy of the working ROM but since I don't use a PC for anything I've never taken the time to learn the method.

I just got ahold of a couple of these devices myself and am in the process of going through all the in's and out's of them....I'm a Samsung nerd so I haven't messed with something like these in a while but I got one (that was supposedly dead bricked per the lady friend of mine I got them from) at least able to boot into factory mode and recovery via ADB and just as I'm posting this I'm in adb shell going through the device's internal memory.....so we'll see what all I find and can pull out of this one and possibly know enough to post an intelligible reply with solutions next time
The boot looping sounds like a common problem with these and when I get to that point I'm going to get rid of the stock bootanimation.zip ASAP and try something else. I get the idea that these things aren't exactly power houses built for much so the littlest thing or small bug in their coding could lead to this kind of crap happening.
Hopefully you figure yours out before I toss these out the window! lol
Cheers y salud!

Forgot to add a couple things about your post, sorry! I beleive (and I just started digging into this phone) that the no command part is the locked bootloader these phones appear to have. I think it was a combo of holding both volume buttons down from a powered off state then pressing power button on that came up with the option for factory mode or recovery (which led to the sad 'no command' droid), i went into factory mode and theres an option for Tp Upgrade which Im assuming is F/W or something similar but I just hooked up to the PC and in that mode it's reading the internal and external memory of the phone and that's about where I'm at so far.
Wow! I'm surprised this thread is still going.
Anywho, I found a repository that is storing the default ROM for the 4.0L. The files were just added recently. I would have liked to have seen a custom Lollipop ROM made by now, but this device is far too irrelevant to get any attention, unfortunately. Just root and forget, I guess.
I can't wait to try it, thank you! And btw, were you able to get root successfully and if so, how?

Hey Deuler93 -
You have my respect for digging out that BLU ROMs link and sharing with the rest of us. I downloaded the one for my Advance and used SP flash tool to flash the phone that was stuck on a boot-loop. Of course first I had to download and install the MediaTeK drivers for USB connectivity with my PC. Everything worked flawlessly, no glitches what so ever. All these links are easily found and widely available online if anyone is interested I can share here too. I just hope that this boot-loop was due to some software glitch and not hardware failure. Everything seems to work fine for now, keepint my fingers crossed it will NOT happen again.
Well, one less headache to worry about. By the way we're not that far, if you're ever in the Chicago area, I owe you a beer or something. Thank you!
Hi guys !
Thank you very much for the Advance 4.0L Roms.
I have successfuly recovered my phone, but the IMEI got lost.
So, I need to root it in order to recover the IMEI, but I just can´t get success on any method :
Kingroot
Framaroot
Towelroot
is there another way to root it ?
Thank you very much.
I got temporary root using the kingroot apk. But it messed things up and I don't trust it anymore. None of the other mentioned methods worked for me either, maybe try the PC kingroot method
well this helps one thing

umm. . . when the no command option comes up just press the power button and the rest of options will appear. doesnt exactly solve your problem however unless you have the ZIP file to install, which is what I'm looking for.
What might happen if a ROM is used for another blu phone. ??
A similar phone as well.
Plz advise.
Damn! This thread just keeps going!
I haven't even looked here in a while, so I will bunch my commentary here. I'm also salaried now, so I bought into a OnePlus X (onyx), a more expensive cheapo device, so I do not use the 4.0L anymore.
As for rooting tools, I used the Kingroot APK successfully in the stock environment. I never tried flashing something SuperSU myself, but it could work. Is flashing a SU app possible from the fastboot interface?
And to Steve's question - it is technically possible to flash a ROM for a different device onto your own device, but is considered a bad idea due to the possibility of introducing incompatibilities and missing proprietary requirements. I feel like this would hold especially true to stock ROMs because the manufacturer probably has no interest in supporting anything more than the device that they are manufacturing for. Doing so removes many possible "compatibility" issues from even having to be considered, but I digress. In short, try to find a ROM made for your device and your device only.
Did you find the zip file for the recovery

You dont need root to recover imei all you have to do is type *#*#84666364#*#* in your dialer and you will be entered in EngineerMode then go into connectivity ,CDS information and radio information phone 1 or 2 then you will see AT+ type something eg.A then backspace and select the first thing you see. Put a space after AT+ and then put you imei code here "IMEI" between these "" You can find your imei by removing your battery it willl be there. After sending command reboot and imei is back.

The OS, i haven't check again the current used OS (details to be follow) still not changing, whatever i do, whatever i change, it return the way it where.
Is there anyone can advise me how to fix this part, my point is, i need to change OS, but for whatever reason i think the OS is read-only, anything you did, when you reboot the device, it return the current OS, nothing change.
Any advise, please... thanks.
no one? anyone?
This is also kind of strange to me, i've done many flashing in many devices, but this is the first time i've encountered this kind of i dont know a joke to me.
i know how to flash cwm, kernel, OS tru flashable or even via Odin, but this is odd to me, please advise.
I have to say that I have never heard of that variant of the tab3 7"...is it region specific?
Are you sure the model is the SM-T20?

Phone stuck in "Download mode" after official Pie OTA update!

Hey good people.
Yesterday i was excited to see the notification for Pie update come up, so i quickly installed it on the phone. It finished, then asked me to reboot, so i did. But for some reason, the phone couldn't reboot properly, and ended up getting stuck in download mode.
Tried to get out of it using every combination, nothing worked. Then i decided, well, lets reinstall the firmware on it. If i could find any! Majority of links are misleading, don't work, yandex disk links didnt let me download anything. Tried like 3 different versions of OST, none of them worked, not even the patched one, not to mention the lack of firmware in the first place.
The only step forward i could make is getting the phone to show up in device manager, because it hasnt even showed up before.
i've never even fiddled with the device's software or anything, everything was 100% stock and untouched.
i'm seriously disappointed in nokia, already contacted the reseller who yet has to reply (i don't have much hope for that either).
Any kinda help would be highly appreciated.

i honestly have no idea about the type, but i have screenshot
actually, no matter what i pressed in what order or battery percentage, it just said "download mode", and i also couldnt even turn the phone off either.
tbh i've contacted the reseller since then, and we'll probably just send it back in the next few days

Don't you have the retail box? The type should be written on it. Also, do you have the ZEISS logo on the camera? If not, then you most likely have the TA-1054 variant, which is for the Chinese market.

it must be the Chinese then, because it doesn't have Zeiss or android one logo on it.
But actually, is that very significant?

Well, I cannot be 100% sure. But I would assume that if your phone was running a ported version of the global ROM and not the official Chinese firmware and it somehow got an OTA update then because of the differences in how the phone's memory is partitioned it would make sense that the device ends up being bricked after trying to flash something not ment to be flashed on it. :/ I hope this makes some sense to you. Also, if I am correct then it makes no sense to blame HMD for this because they have not done anything wrong. It is most likely the reseller who reflashed your TA-1054 with a ported version of the global ROM.

i've legit thought about that! the box itself has lots of chinese on it, so it might be the case. Either way, reseller responded and i'll probably just sent it back to them this week because apparently it's their fault.
strangely, my mi a1 didnt even let the OTA install when i had the bootloader unlocked, so it's weird to see a phone getting bricked like this. I actually felt guilty for letting the OTA install, even though i didn't do anything wrong here (exceptionally:laugh
Thanks for the suggestions m8!
I think You bought a crappy Chinese dummy Nokia 6.1 HMD is not in Finland hands anymore.
The hardware is different. And the software is Android one.
I am curious how your reseller solves the problem.
can anyone tell how can help to exit from download mode. i have tried by connecting charger and holding pwr button and vol up and after andriod logo came i released by pwr button and holding the vol up button. its not worked
later i connected to my pc and install adb driver and fastboot and then through cmd prompt i run adb bootloader but its not working then i check adb devices but there is nothing shows in attched devices and also i tried with fastboot reload then mobie restarts and came back to dowload mode. so out of these step can anyone have any suggestions to get back my mobile..thank you
ok so, i kinda neglected the thread but heres what happened:
i tried EDL mode with deep flash cable, didnt work. i tried installing all sorts of drivers on my PC from all sorts of sketchy sites, after a point i decided not to mess my PC or the phone up even more.
i contacted my reseller who "fixed" the phone by installing the pie update on it somehow, and it's functional now. i even told them the phone wasn't the european version but they didn't seem to care, and i didn't feel like playing with them anymore. but it's FAR from stable, buggy as hell, and LTE B20 doesn't work either (that might have a thing or 2 to do with the phone being chinese...)
thanks for all of u for helping, this particular phone was way more than enough reason for me not to buy a nokia again ))))
