Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!

My 360 recently got some quirky water damage and thinks it is constantly connected/plugged in. Under setting battery it shows "plugged in" next to it and also on the watch face it indicates a battery charge icon. Everything seems fine, however when I tilt my wrist the watch stays on, until it is tilted back far enough to auto off itself....in other words it stays one while I type on the computer and never auto offs like it used to. Is there any "pm disable" or properties setting I can change to have the watch either function like it is not plugged in or have it only show the display on touch or button press???
The water damage was my fault and I will not try to rip off Motorola for my mistake, so if anyone knows of a setting to display only on touch, that would be awesome....it would also keep all the false auto ONs from happening for not-messed up 360s, like mine was.
Thanks

[Q] Accelerometers won't see above horizon?

Hey folks, I've got SyndicateROM Frozen running, and have the following problem:
When I use Google SkyMap, it won't let me see above the horizon. If I use GPS Test, which shows pitch/roll, it'll detect up to 90 degrees up, but doesn't seem to register anything higher than that. I mean: when I hold the phone flat on a table, no problem. Pick it up, and face it in front of me so the screen faces me, no problem. Tilt it upward so the camera is looking at the sky, and it doesn't seem to register.
I've tried calibrating compass, accelerometers (with the GPS Test tool, and with sensorcalibutil_yamaha), but to no avail. Tried the calibration tool in system settings, too.
This happens with any Froyo build/ROM I've tried. Did battery pull, etc., no go.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Finally someone else has asked about this. There is an app called "Surveyor" that is used to measure distances with the camera but ever since I started using custom ROMs it isn't able to find horizon. Any help with a possible fix would be appreciated.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
I had a problem similar to this (the compass was pointing way off and very erractic). I used an app called Sensor Debug and found that my pitch axis was reading -178 lying flat on a table. I went into the phones display settings and chose the Horizontal Calibration, put the phone upside down flat on a table, but hanging over it so I could reach under and push the Calibrate button. This worked for me like a champ! (Calibrate upside down). I noticed this after the OTA Froyo.
I have the same issue as the OP. I tried installing that sensor debug and it showed 0 for pitch and 0 for roll when laying flat... note... I put it flat but with the camera hanging over the edge of the table.
Anyways, Google Skymap fails for me too...
bump... any word... hopefully from a dev on what is happening?
Not flat with the camera hanging off... upside down flat.. screen side down.. with enough of the screen hanging off to hit the calibrate button..

Hmph.
Welp, looks like I've got to post here, as I'm a new enough member and don't have the necessary # of posts to post to the Developer forum!
In case anyone from the ACS/SyndicateROM team is reading this: AWESOME JOB. Flashed EC05 and Takiya (1.1.0) without a hitch. Amazing that it just keeps all data/settings. I can't thank you guys enough!
Back to the point of this thread: Accelerometers are still not working correctly, even with EC05. I've re-tried:
- Android horizontal calibrate (under settings) both screen up and screen down
- system/bin/sensorcalibutil_yamaha, both screen up and screen down
- Battery out/battery in
- Recalibrate from within GPS test.
Good news is compass works, GPS works. Within GPS test there's a pitch/roll sensor. Doesn't seem to want to register above 90 degrees.
If someone is running EC05/SyndicateRom 1.1.0, would you try running Google SkyMap and see if you can see above the horizon? Basically, I can tilt down and look at the Nadir, but when I tilt up, no matter how far I tilt up, in landscape or portrait mode, it won't show anything above the horizon.
Thanks!
EDIT: Er, the app I use is called "GPS Status," it has the pitch/roll/calibrate stuff.
It seems to work for me (running SRF 1.1.0).
Unless I'm just interpreting what I see incorrectly, but if I start out pointing down, and gradually shift to pointing up, it crosses what I assume is the horizon (because it has directions like north/south written on it) and keeps going.
I'm pretty sure it worked for me on previous versions of SRF though.

Smartwatches: Think Tank (Attn: SONY SMARTWATCH, WIMM, PEBBLE, METAWATCH,MOTO

Having extensive experience with both phone watches and BT-enabled watches, I want to make an important remark to firmware/software developers for these devices, more so after having recently acquired a SONY Smartwatch.
It is simple: NOTIFICATIONS NEED TO BE PUSHED ALL THE WAY. ALL GOODS NEED TO BE DELIVERED.
In the Sony Smartwatch, a vibration accompanied by a Gmail logo is useless. Having me awake the watch, click on ‘Events’, click again on the message and only then being able to see the email message defeats the purpose of immediateness. Probably easier for me to reach out to the phone and see what the notification is about.
The right way to go is simple: everything the phone has in terms of message info needs to be pushed to the watch notification:
“Email from John Doe
To [email protected]
Subject: Dinner on Tue
->And the entire body”
Same with SMS, IM notifications, or anything. Having only the SMS or Gmail or Whatsapp logos and have to hunt down for the message in the watch is absurd.
The way the MBW-150 worked offered way more info at a glance; Sony is moving backward with this minimalistic notification approach. More is needed.
Secondly: let me disable BT on the watch (say when batt is low or overnight) without forcing me to shut down the device -> no time telling anymore.
Third: watch brightness needs to be adjustable from the watch itself (let me manage battery life myself, I’m a grown up).
Fourth: an audio beep won’t kill anyone. When I’m driving, for instance, I cannot feel the phone vibration. A CASIO-style ‘beep-beep’ cannot hurt. While I understand this may involve additional hardware and pose operational complexities, this is a nice-to-have feature.
First two remarks are KEY, and I’d appreciate not only Sony but everybody involved in such development to think a bit smart before pouring a fortune into development.
Anyone has anything else worth highlighting?
Thanks
Sure dude. But first things first... I would scream that let these things display the clock at all times. Failure to do so defeats the whole watch disguise!

I am messing with Customnotifier, GMail notifier (not 2), and RSS (which works best but drains the battery on the phone if set to frequent checks).
In any event, on the watch I only get an icon on the screen, no further info.

Well they are moving in the right direction. With the updated firmware, that was released today, you are able to do a couple more things. You now have an option of leaving new watch faces on at all times. Also with notifications, you can now single tap the new notification icon and it will take you straight to the notification!

Yes indeed. Touchscreen seems a tad more responsive now also, more polished.
Still, notifications need to appear spontaneously -no need to tap- and bightness should be adjustable -too much backlight for me; always staying indoors.
But it's a good step fwd and the app in the phone is more efficient.
Hi, I'm Considering buying this watch simply cos I'm a geek I guess, but, if it is possible for sony to update the firmware/create new apps, and others also to create new apps etc, isn't it almost inevitable that more detailed notifications will be developed eventually? Or am I wrong, is it up to just sony to develope new apps etc, meaning we'll have to wait for just them to decide, taking ages etc? (Unlinke the wimm one for example)..
It does look great, but I agree, notifications really MUST include details, and if this is a future possibility, then I'll get one. (Mainly due to the wimm one not being on sale over here yet! Arrghh!)

The notifications seem detailed to me I mean you see the icon if you want to read the message tap the icon once. I like the screen always on update but I won't use it often since I rather have the battery last through the week.
I've checked back ever so often and there new apps popping up so I think development will only improve. Its honestly one of my favorite phone accessories I would recommend trying it out.

I agree I can't wait til they update to allow adjustment of of the backlight. The notifications I find using the MMS notifier over Sony's I get no delay in the notifications. The Gmail notifier app I use for Gmail sends me the notice without delay also.

Good choice RedRamage. I have the analog Metawatch and expect the new iOS digital version any day. Latest phone console release and functions here
OP - fullly agree with the "at a glance" concept. Metawatch provided this for me and I have the Sony, WIMM, original Liveview and MotoACTV also.
Only very recently I was able to stop using MetaWatch and switch to the Sony only for this. See my blog @ augmentedtraffic.wordpress.com/2012/06/09/finally-true-real-time-at-a-glance-notifications-on-sony-smart-watch (you need to cut & paste into a browser since I have < 10 posts).
I use Tasker/K-9 combined with my app to get "at a glance' on a SonyWatch!
I am still testing battery life, but it seems OK. I haven't put the app on the market as yet as it is very customized to my use cases and it may be a bit too much for others to use. The only thing I am currently missing from the MetaWatch is the next upcoming appointment. I have everything else I was using (notifications at a glance, phone battery life, location, weather). I even added my last Withings scale weigh-in
Ok, I've got both of the 1st Gen MetaWatch models (The bt2 Analog and Digital ones), and maintain a popular fork of the Android MW software (see link in my sig), so I'll try and answer your points in relation to that watch.
1) Yes, MW will display your notifications as soon as the phone does - gmail is a little tricky as google keeps changing/modifying/revoking permissions with the official gmail app, so the information available to the watch manager app can be a little sketchy. If you use k-9 mail, you'll see the sender and subject. It doesn't display body text yet, but that is doable. Gmail would also be fixable by just making the app go to the gmail server directly and pull the message text when the new mail notification comes in.
The fork I maintain has an "Other notifications" Option, that lets you selectively display any android notification, although the OS limits how much information we can actually pull. If anyone has requests for additional notification support, then I'm happy to try adding it, assuming the developer of the app has provided intents or an api to access that information.
Currently notifications will stay on screen for a few seconds, then disappear (except for the SMS notifications, which, on the digital watch can be set to stay on screen until dismissed, as you can see the full body, and scroll) - On the digital watch you can configure a button to redisplay the last notification again if you missed it, and there's an on watch menu of all the previous notifications which is only a few button presses away.
2) Yes, all the MW models have a menu option (on the watch) that let you disable BT without turning off the watch, so you can still tell the time
3) Yes, the Analog MW model has menu options to configure the OLED brightness. There's nothing to configure on the Digital model, as it has an always on LCD screen (though there's an option in my fork of the app to automatically turn on its light when a notification comes in)
4) The MWs don't have a speaker, but they do have a powerful vibrator inside - it's pretty hard to miss it when it does vibrate, and the app lets you configure different vibration patterns for different notifications, so you can know what sort of message it was without even looking.
Let me know if you've got any other questions!
MW has some very good stuff, I'm quite familiar with it.
Pity -both for MW and SW- is the poor pixel density. I believe MOTO has a much better display.
B/W displays appear sub-optimal to me and definitely not the direction the market wants to move toward.
Also, beyond the immediate 'at-a-glance' notification, can you read within the watch the full email or notification in MW? This is also a key element.
One more topic I missed on SW is that once connection is lost we need not only vibration but some on-screen display, like a warning sign or something. This feature prevented me from leaving behind a SGSII in a bar when I was using my ancient MBW-150. Vibration won't typically suffice.
I survive 2.5 full days with heavy notification traffic with my SW. How long you stay unplugged with MW under heavy traffic?
Thanks for the good discussion.

As I said, the current software doesn't support that, but it's something I'm planning on adding.
SMS messages currently support this - you can page through a long message, then dismiss it when you're done, so I just need to add the code to pull out (and strip html from) the body text - I know for certain that it's easily possible using k-9 mail, gmail will probably need work to talk to google's mail server directly to get the message text.

Yes, it'll display a "No watch connection" icon in the top right of the time display, which is pretty hard to miss!

I tend to get 2 or 3 days, depending on what I'm doing - 3 days for medium traffic, 2 for heavy traffic (usually when I'm developing features, so pushing lots of data to the watch)
3 days = Taken off the charger on Monday morning, needs to go back on the charger Wednesday evening before I go to bed.
I could probably get much longer battery life if I manually turned bt off each night, and back in the morning, but I like having my watch vibrate in the morning when the alarm goes off! Perhaps adding a "bt sleep" mode to the firmware would be a good addition.
How long does your battery last on the Sony Smartwatch if you keep the small digital clock on at all times?
I've had my watch a little over a week and haven't been able to make it through the day yet even with minimal notifications. The battery life has been very disappointing.
@benjymous:
I forgot to note that I shut it down when I go to sleep. In the morning I turn it on with no pairing issues, so we'd be looking at 18h/day actual uptime, for a total of say 45h per charge. Not stellar by any means.
@tjrhine:
It didn't even cross my mind to have the screen on full-time. It is obvious you won't make it tremendously far (I think the bat has a capacity below 130). No way. I push the button to get the time, I can live with this.
I also need to report that the glass is far from scratchproof. That's something that really pisses people off. Next HW release should DEFINITELY include at least Gorilla Glass and certainly a bigger battery. The thickness of the plastic clip and the strap can be each reduced by about half a millimeter that combined gives you 1mm that they should invest in a bigger capacity batt.
And obviously, a standard usb port.
Please keep ideas coming folks, thanks.
And this is how the notification queue should look like:

I'm having exact same problem - Battery lasts barely 8-10 hrs. Do we need replacement watches?

smart stay

The smart stay has been a hit or miss for me. Can anyone make the screen stay with mere movement alone? This would be helpful when reading in low light situations. I am not interested in shaking but utilizing theaccelerometer, if we can keep the screen bright, then camera limitations could be avoided.
Thank you in advance.
You can look up smart stay ex lite and paid version in play market to see if the dev would look into that. Or it might already have it. XDA reviewed it before on the main page.
Sent from my SGSIII with the XDA Premium App
thank you very much for the response I shall contact the developer and get some more information thank you once again.
I use screebl.
It is orientation based, rather than using the camera to detect eyes. Smart stay didn't last long with me.
Screebl basically keeps the phone on when in a non-horizontal or non-vertical orientation... So like smart stay, you can set your timeout to 15 seconds, and not play the keep alive game. It also has a mode to detect non-movement so that if you leave it in an "active" orientation, but there is no movement at all, it will timeout and shut off.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tzgFuUu0oxg
Smart stay seemed to work well for the first few days but is now more miss than hit. For now I have just used tasker to increase the screen timeout on certain apps that I'm more likely to reach a timeout before I touch the screen. Of course, if you don't already have tasker, it is kind of pricey to buy just for that purpose.
I'm going to try screeble.. tho smart stay seemed to work, i like this idea better?
if you go in the camera app and look at your self using the front camera, you have to keep it at a somewhat far distance in order to get a full head shot of yourself.
If smart stay is enabled and you keep it at the same distance as when using the camera app it actually works. But with that said it to far away from the eyes and makes it far to read.
I have to keep it almost half my arm distance away in order to make smart stay work, which is someone of a let down in bad light such as a bus etc.
The other thing i have noticed if you keep the sgs at eye level the camera may not see you face/eyes and may just be seeing your forehaed and thus does not work.
I personally use screebl. I have had the pro version for a couple years and would never consider not having it. The default setup works great for me.
Also there is the application "screen on" that will keep the screen on when an application is opened or device plugged in.
I have taster, but i do not like how it will allow the screen to dim. I have not found a way around that.
Thank you very much for this very useful tip. I tried it just now. It worked very well.I have deactivated smart stay application. thank you once again.
Smart Stay seemed to be stuck on my phone yesterday... I didnt know what the eye icon was on my phone so looked on here to see it was teh smartstay feature, but for some reason mine would stay on the top toobar and wouldnt go away... I couldnt get it to turn off so finally had to reboot my phone to deactivate it.. my battery was discharging at an outrageous rate....from full charge to low battery warning in three hours...dont know if thats what caused it or not, but today I took my phone off the charger at 7 am and its 215 now and I still show 75% battery left??

[Q] How to keep a Fire TV Stick constantly displaying a website 24/7

Hello, I have a unique situation where we use TVs to display live monitoring of systems. Instead of using laptops(tied to the back of the TV mounts) to simply go to a website, I am trying to use a Fire TV stick to do the same job and it does the job wonderfully. I have firefox and flash sideloaded and I have a Logitech Dinovo Mini working with the settings app. I just need to keep the Fire Stick from turning the display off every 30 minutes. Is there an App that will disable sleep or set it to never? Thanks for the help.

Your device should stay awake if you are running an app in the foreground. Try an app called "stay alive". It might be better to let your device go to standby, cause keeping the same image on the screen for long preiods of time will cause screenburn. The image will be burnt into the inside of the dislay and after time it will become noticable. Screenburn is the reason why standby and screensavers exist. Do you really need your screen on so bad thats its worth taking a chance of getting screenburn? I got screenburn on a Galaxy Note from accidently turning the screen on while I was asleep and it ruined the whole experience of having a big screen on my phone. Everytime I turned the screen of or had bright colors on the screen I could see the burnt in ghost image.

LTE for phones on Credo
So it turns out that I was having LTE problems because the Credo network piggybacks on the Sprint network, but in order to get the LTE working you have to edit the APN setting in the Mobile Network Settings area. Choose Access Point Names, select Sprint LTE internet, and then edit the APN field. It will read "n.ispsn". You just have to edit it to add w1 in there so that it says "n.w1.ispsn". Hit the menu button and save, and watch the LTE flow.

cm-12.1-20150815-NIGHTLY-trltespr
I Flashed this version and am facing some issues like over heating .
any one else facing similar issues ? any resolutions for the same ?
Phone switching to LET/GSM randomly
My phone is losing data connection randomly. When I check the Phone Info Test screen it seems to be switching to LTE/GSM instead of LTE/CDMA prl.
Is there a fix to keep it from defaulting to LTE/GSM?
Pulled CM 12.1 Off my note
Just had to pull CM 12.1 off of my Note 4 due to a ton of bugs. Thought I would list what I experienced for devs: This is on Note 4 Sprint (LTE/CDMA), CM build 12.1 on the August 22nd nightly.
1 - Bluetooth A2DP profile works and then stops randomly. Says it's connected, but is actually not. This was on my car head unit and my home stereo.
2 - Data is spotty. Really spotty. While driving it seems like I lost data every five minutes for about two minutes. Triggering Airplane mode fixed the issue when it arose. Airplane mode started bugging out soon after.
3 - Airplane mode, when turned on and then off, would default the network to LTE/GSM instead of LTE/CDMA. Had to use the MMS fix to correct it each time.
4 - MMS bug. After reboot, MMS and SMS stop sending. Followed several steps in editing APNs and rebooting with no luck. Always had to use the #*#* fix each time.
5 - Over heating is an issue. My phone would get hot and stay hot for minutes randomly. The battery life during this period would drop dramatically.
6 - Random Reboots occurred here and there. Mostly after periods of 'Hot Phone' time. The launcher crashed on me consistently during a day, killing anything playing in the background.
7 - Time. This was the nail in the coffin that caused me to restore to stock. For some reason my phone decided to go to 11:30 p.m. and stay there last night. My 6 a.m. alarm didn't sound (since the phone thought it was 11:30 p.m.) and almost made me late to work. Internal clock ftw.
8 - Camera works... sometimes. Sometimes it crashes. Sometimes it throws the 'Can't connect to camera' error. Doesn't ever autofocus.
I want this rom to work. I love the gui and the framework. It's just too buggy right now. I tried doing clean installs with different builds, but each time I had issues.
I'm more than happy to answer any questions for those needing any clarification on the issues experienced.
Waze
I have a question regarding 12.1 for my Note 4. Ever since I upgraded to stock 5.1.1 I've noticed weird hangs and lags with my phone. Occasionally it just locks up and I need to set it down for a moment until it's sorted.
I HAD CM 12.1 on it after locking GPS in TW before flashing. My issue is that Waze (of which I use daily to get my daughter to school on time) tends to fall asleep every so often. "Searching for Network" it says. No issues on TW. This is the ONE thing that has me on TW.
Anyone seen this issue and have a possible fix for it?
I'd love to go back to 12.1 and use it as a daily driver, but I need everything to work (minus the thumbprint scanner of course). In so far as the camera, I don't take many pictures. It's not a deal breaker for me that I don't get Samsung's post processing on images.
MMS issues
Is anyone else having an issue where they are recieving MMS messages twice? Known fixes?
Dumb question, can i flash this from 4.4.2 or do i need to do the sprint ota update to lollipop first?
Cm12.1 seems to have bad battery drain. I mean it gotten better I think but not really that bad anymore. I need to wait till tomorrow on night and find out. Mine says the android system is using the most of my battery.. Not really sure how because I watch YouTube videos and stream podcast for like 5 hours straight lol. I mean I'm sure it the extended battery I have isn't calibrated but is anyone else having battery drain? Does anyone have zero lemon? My battery lasted like 2 days with custom touch wiz ROMs and then even with cm12.1 I got 2.5 days. But I started to notice I could only get through one day but I bet that's calbriated battery. One time my phone said 1% and I ran Netflix and the flash light for 2.5 hours before it died lol and that's after 2 days. Zero lemon is no joke
