does anyone know if we getting 2.3 update for g2??
Yeah, it'll come for sure. But it'll be available in custom ROMs way before HTC get around to releasing it.
but it'll work same as the official 2.3 right?

Well, this phone has virgin android because it will be between the first phones getting gingerbread, so htc I think won't have anything to do here because we are running pure vanilla, not any htc sence crap

Its a good thing though dude, its nice to know there are people dedicated to the cause
2.3 will come firstly as a port from the nexus, and then within 1-2 months we will see an updated G2 and sense rom, then at the end of 2020 we will see it drop on the SGS, lol lol ;P
And as soon as the gingerbread source code is released, Cy will get to work on CM7

nooo im effing excited dude! lol
This is just a rumor, but Phandroid has a rumor that says 2.3 could be unvieled as early as today (12/6). I don't think it'll happen, but I have my fingers crossed.
I know Moto Droids running vanilla Android and the Nexus 1 always get updates first because they're running vanilla Android. We're running Vanilla Android, so maybe we'll get to be apart of the "hahahaha, we got it before you did, sucker Sense/Motoblur/Touchwiz users!" group?

That statement is absurd. The N1 has only had ONE UPDATE!!! At least only one MAJOR update... it shipped with 2.1, it is currently 2.2 (2.2.1 is minor, hardly counts.)

That's only half of the statement, friend. The point I was trying to make was that the phones with vanilla android get the updates sooner than all the other UIs. Since we run vanilla android like the nexus 1 and the moto droids do, we should be getting 2.3 the same time they do which, historically, has been far sooner than everyone else.

G2 is not pure Google/Stock/Vanilla/Virgin whatever you want to call it.
While yes, the G2 is the closest thing to Vanilla FroYo available (aside from the Nexus Series of course, which is 100% stock), it isn't entirely pure. There is another thread pertaining to this, anyways the guesstimate is that we will get it a month or two after the Nexus S is released, which is December 16th in the United States.
BTW, I love my G2, I think it's the sickest phone available right now, but at the same time, it isn't fully stock. Read Cyanogen's blog about it.
It's going to take some time to get it just right for the G2. In any event, I can't wait!
I'm guessing Feb. 2011, although after having played with the SDK's Emulator a bit, there aren't any DRASTIC changes in Gingerbread, which means less dev. work, so who knows, maybe even sooner! Definitely after X-mas.

Oh I know we're not running 100% Vanilla, but we are running it without a 3rd party UI put over top so I'm sure we'll get it much sooner than Sense, Motoblur and Touchwiz phones do.
I think it'll be sooner than February (my money is on a January release, as the Nexus S is being released with 2.3, so 2.3's release will be the day the S comes out). It shouldn't take that long to toss together 2.3-compatible versions of the apps that makes ours different from a 100% pure device. Of course, it's all up to Tmo in the end.
I'm waiting until 2.3 update before I root. I was waiting for CM 6 stable but with 2.3 just around the corner, it's worth waiting for. I'd like to see what it's like before I go rooting around in my phone. Pun squarely intended.

I can't wait for 2.3 via CM7! The CM 6.1 stable is bad ass. I'm just ready for voip/sip that's built in. I changed my service plan when I heard that lol

Cos the idea we'll get Android 5.0 on the Note 10.1 2014 is a load of fragrant hot air?
Now waiting for 4.4.4..
Come on Samsung, don't keep us waiting.
4.4.3 is just a very minor bug fixing update from 4.4.2. At least we got Kit kat with an updated Samsung skin on top as well. That's honestly a much bigger deal than getting 4.4.3. Now all we need is a stellar ROM packed with some nice tweaks and features. The upcoming Hyperdrive ROM by Sbreen looks to be it.
They'll probably skip 4.4.4 and just go to 5.0.2 in December. Hopefully there's a maintenance update to fix the video bugs in 4.4.2.
Why shouldn't we expect Updates
>>By samsung-policy wise, galaxy note will be out of its 18 month support period so no 4.4.3
Why shouldn't we expect updates. If I buy a laptop with windows I get updates (in the case of my old xp machine for over 10 years) granted my hp or dell support has long since lapsed but I can still update the operating system for bug fixes and enhancements ect..
If I buy an iPad I get updates in the case of my wife for over 4 years now.
So My question is why should Samsung or the android tablet market function any differently?

Iphone 3GS/4/4S and Ipad 2//3 did get updates to iOS6/7, probably iOS8/iOS9 too.
Did all these got all new features and works flawless with new updates? Siri was left out on IP4.
Go google on how it worked and u got u answer.
Samsung, like almost all manufacturers, for almost all devices, uses to provide a single major update, and that was Kitkat. LG seems to be special. They can manage to provide two dozen "micro updates", seemingly only fixing baseband issues affecting operation with certain providers in certain countries. No fix list, but that was the purpose of Nokia updates in the past.
My LG L9 got an update from 4.0.4 to 4.1.2 one and a half years ago, from v10x to version v20a. This went up to v20p since, and there was never the slightest noticeable difference. Even a small wifi bug remains present since v20a.
Do you guys think LG will be quick to update their device(s) to the new version of android once its out? I have high hopes given their recent record of impressive releases, sort of like a Motorola-esque turn around.
I reckon it will take them 3 months after L is out by Google
LG will not take too long, but Verizon will as usual take months to deliver an OTA of the original and buggy Android L, if ever, while LG and Google have released many improved builds in the interrum which Verizon may never ship.
As evidence, see history, including the fact that so far Verizon has released none of LG's builds of 4.4.2 past v10b it initially shipped with.

This is precisely what I was concerned with, while their history isn't to great, neither is any other manufacturers with the exception of Nexus branded and Google Play Edition devices. However, LG seems to have turned a new leaf with their "homerun" G3, the G Watch, and the anticipated G Watch R . Here's to hoping a timely update. I have the bootloader unlocked T-Mo version, but there is limited development at the moment.
Don't hold your breath. And even if LG does get L out quick, don't expect it to look like pure L.
Hope we will get unlocked bootloader by that time

HTC is great with updates, Moto X is too. Hopefully LG realizes that this something that people who buy flagship phones care about
Im thinking 3 months or sooner after android l is finalized for us. Considering we re a flagship phone im hoping sooner.
Eventually it will come but not as fast as the One Plus or nexus devices and i think even the One M8.
But we will see maybe they surprise us i don't know. What i know is LG not that good at the quick updates so far.

No not yet. Everyone is anxiously awaiting word from Mo Versi on twitter that the update has been approved and that OTA will begin shortly. He had previously said he expected approval on 7/17 and release on 7/20 but it hasn't happened yet.
I am not happy that TMO has been holding this up to the point where even AT&T got it out first and they are near the bottom in terms of releasing updates.

No they're not skipping 5.1. They are so far behind in firmware they won't skip 5.1 on a flagship device like this. Most likely there was some last min bug with a piece of TMO bloatware that they had to correct. That's almost always the reason...

whats the verdict?
What's the deal with HTC. Why haven't they released Nougat yet?
Seriously?
Once they do release it there will be nothing but complaining just like every other new version.
Relax it will get here when it gets here.
Given that the Sprint exclusive Bolt is coming out with Nougat, I would bet that it is just around the corner for the HTC 10 as well.
However, I really hope for a stable update, rather than a rushed one, full of issues.
only Name exclusive, but yea, htc 10 nougat build is really near
They said Q4 2016... so until 31 December 2016 23:59 they are on time.
I really hope they put in the ability to change what's in the quick settings within the notification tray. There are a good amount of them that I don't use.
nougat update let you change the quick settigns toggle
Hmm even mediatek devices gotten Android 7.0 earlier that HTC 10 like oukitel devices
I really hope the update brings much better camera performance and soon, I'm really disapointed with it. But isn't the rumor saying late November beginning of December?
