Sup guys,
Recently I got HTC 8s and as I like to explore, I found out that our HTC doesn't support win 8.1 but you can install it without a problem with app preview for developers, so I installed myself 8.1. Personally for me, it's seems to be good, but I think that battery got worse. Maybe it discharge 10% or less faster, but, I'm not quite sure. What do you think about installing win 8.1 on our HTC? What's your opinion and experience?
Also, is it good to install higher windows if it's not released for our phone? I remember how I installed some CM mods on my android phone. I could have at most 2.3 but I went so high with 4.2.2 and phone was so forced. It's definitely not good to install higher software than it's released. So is it same thing with Windows Phone? I want to hear your experience and opinion about win 8.1 on HTC 8s and other phones that supports only win 8.
*edit*
Btw. can also someone explain to me what is ''battery tool''? I'm very confused.

Since everyone is ashamed to write your opinion, I'll break the ice for you and write my first experience on Win 8.1 on HTC 8S
So, since I came from android to WP and was get used on android, I first noticed how on WP you can't toggle notification bar and see shortcuts for wifi, mobile networks... In win 8.1 is that thing fixed. You can easily slide down from upper side of screen down and you'll get notification screen and shortcuts. It's really easy to set it up and you don't have to do boring steps, open wifi menu, turn off wifi and it automatically it connects to network. On win 8.1 when you scroll down notification bar, you can just tap on wifi icon and it automatically connects to saved network, just like on android. One big + for win 8.1 in compare with win 8. Also, as I said how I came from android. Android has a big problem with lag. If you install bunch of apps, your phone will be slow and will lag like it's 10 years old, unbelievable. Just can't get over it. Since I moved to WP I have not experienced any lag what's really awesome. Also one big + for WP.
Battery life on win 8.1 for me is really great. I don't use my phone a lot. Maybe few times on day for about 10-20 mins. In whole day it would be 1-2h and my day ends with only 20% less battery. Which is really great for me. I don't have to charge every day phone. I charge it every 3 days.
But it would not be all so perfect, I noticed one bug. It's not a big deal. Battery saver. Battery saver should be app that saves battery on your phone, but what a hell is it doing on this phone? It turns off notifications, sync and apps for what? It doesn't really saves battery when it's turned on. In a fact even more consuming battery. Wtf? Also, I left Battery saver turned on all the time and charging was also messed up. My phone charged to 100% in few hours and few mins later it drops from 100% to 84-83%. I really don't know what's the problem with that app. Also, my advice is that you forget about that battery saver. Just leave it off, you'll have even more battery juice when app is off than when it's on.
So, yes. This is my experience on 8.1 with HTC 8s. I'm really satisfied with this phone, even more. Really surprised with windows phone. I really recommend Windows Phone to everyone who's annoyed with lag and bad battery life on other phones.
the grim reality is that we will never get the update, or get a version of android. not only the device is not popular with people but also HTC at the time essentially ****ed us 8s users in the ass and never gave us the update coupled with the phone not having alot of storage. I'm a 8s user myself (sure I am late to the party but who cares) and its safe to assume that this phone is dead. thanks HTC. twats
Help Updating
Hi! I have a htc 8s with the update 8.0.10532.166 I'm trying to update to Windows 8.1 but there's not way to create a new developer account for free, my question is another way to update to windows 8.1 or a developer free accout that i can borrow?, Sorry for the bad english

hey friends,
I'm still wondering about these two.
is there a way to put the android 2 and sense in the touchpro 2?
that's a consideration for the phone.
regarding droid, well, i hear motorola still trying to regain themselves and i had no good experience with their phones (especially voice quality and performance), so i'm not so sure about the droid.
moreover, i'd like to hear you guys out, if the answer for android 2 to TP2 is a YES, which one is better, the hero or the TP2?
how's the user experience with small-medium palms with the keyboard?
how's the performance? lag time? loadbalance?
how's wm6.5?
preety much noob in all that stuff, but still i have so many answers missing. internet reviews are not that helpful though, not comparing to XDA anyway
please, you're help.
Thanks.
There is no info because it can't be done. You can't run android on TP2 at the moment, and if it happens to run on it, you will have to boot WinMo first so that being said, you will sort off be running 2 os's... so speed will be slow, might as well stick with WinMo 6.5.
Thanks,
I was hoping for a summarized reply
now,
I'm NOT a buisness user, but i'm moving on to work in QA.
I'd like to have excel and word on my phone,
i'd like the thought i can run pc-like apps for winmo (say dosbox for running games) or a lot of others (heroes of might and magic?),
i like customizations, i guess i'll sometime NEED push emails to my phone,
web browsing is actually not so issue to me, unless it's the ONLY alternative.
so i guess winmo is better for me?
or does the hero can do the job? (is it true it gets android 2? sense too?)
which OS is better for me?
i'm looking at the near future but i cannot see past to the long run, so i really have no idea which one to take on both phones. Keyboard can be VERY useful for writing documents and playing games \ browsing i guess.
can u play games that require buttons on the hero?
and a noob question, can i run XP apps on winmo 6.5 or do they need to be adjusted for it?
a lot of questions but they'r the branches of the original, i'd apretiate the answers. The main idea is to take something that may fit my needs & usage, and not something needs to be suited for them.
thanks again.
I say you should go for WM.
Just because you are going to use word excel and other programs.
This just isn't possible on Android. (yet)
Same question
I hear ya HTCwannabe
I am deciding on the TP2 vs Hero for my wife who will be using for business function more than movies, pics, movies and games.
I went and saw both at a local store to actually see them and feel the hardware. Both are quality construction.
I have to say, Android is great, but, as a business user, I have to say that WM is the better way to go and having the keyboard is great too.
Not to say Android won't become more introduced into the business world, but Android is just hitting puberty with 2.0.
I really want to give Hero a chance and "make it work", but too scared.
Probably going with TP2 for now after I do a bit more research.
First of all, I can edit Excel and word docs on my G1, so that is NOT WM only.
Second of all, Hero runs on version 1.5 (Cupcake). HTC has not updated to Android 2.0 (Eclair) for the Android version of Sense. I'll be honest with you, I switched from Android to the TP2, for one reason, Android is a battery hog. With a $50 extended battery (That added significantly to the size of the phone) I got less then 10 hours of battery. The task management is pretty much crap on that device right now.
So if you need a phone that'll last for at LEAST a day (Heavy Internet/AIM/Skype/SMS/Phone calls) and that has a good speaker phone, you are going to want to go with the TP2.
If you don't care about Battery, want free turn by turn directions, an AWESOME App market, then you want to get an Android device. *EDIT* Also way better games on WM. I have Warcraft 2, and Age of Empires. You can't just run programs from XP, it has to be modified/ported over. However, as I said, I have the full version of Warcraft 2, so it obviously can be done. If anyone finds StarCraft/Quake 2, and sends me a PM, you'll be my best friend! lol
I have heard a RUMOR (from an unverified internet blog/thread) that when the HTC HD2 arrives in America, it will have two flavors - Android, and WinMo. So you may want to wait till the HD2 is out, because if it does come out in two flavors, I'm positive someone will get it to dual boot, or you will at least be able to change from one to the other with a simple flash. (Assuming of course that they stick identical hardware into both devices.)
Although I'm kinda biased, I'd say the Touch Pro2 is the way to go. It's an excellent device, the best I've ever had. As others have said, Android is still kind of young, and not the best quite yet. Also, as someone else has mentioned, the battery life is abysmal. I ran it on my HTC TyTN II and I couldn't get a full day out of it. On the same device, I could go 2 days without recharging.
Regarding Android on the Touch Pro2, it is possible. However, it is NOT possible at this time. The developers are still working on hardware support. Eventually, they will release a .zip file with all the necessary files. You put them on your SD card, and run an executable which will start Android and kick Windows Mobile out of RAM. This means that for now you still have to boot WM before you boot Android. And also, you might have to wait a while before stuff like the camera, GPS antenna, and keyboard are fully supported. After a while, they'll probably be able to get Android fully working. Also, there is a project that is centered around getting linux natively booting with code injection, but that's gonna move slowly.
As for the HD2 Android rumor, I don't believe that will happen. HTC should be releasing a device with comparable specs to the HD2, except with Android.
Touchpro2
I have touchpro2 and this is my opinion based on friends of mine that have android
1)battery power- android on heavy use only last 3 hours max...touchpro2 7-8 hours.
2) All buisness apps plus voice quality ,internet sharing, etc. right out the box. No updates requires.
3)As far as games konami has signed a contract to make games for touchpro2 so in 1-3 month you see major improvement plus lots of freeware games you can find online.
4)windows mobile will be able to run android later on anyway...so whats sense of buying android lol!!!
The only advantage android has is its a little faster and thats about it. For now they have better selection of games by a little margin. Windows Mobile is the way to go. In couple days I will release a 6 level arcade shooter for free so that should help your gamming fix. Any other questions just ask
I really don't understand the idea of "heavy usage" being given here for the TP2.
There is no way I could get more than a few hours of heavy usage out of mine. If I have a really slow data connection it improves battery life because it stops the thing heating up but with full on HSDPA the battery gets eaten through really very quickly. A flight doesn't haveto be delayed for very long before I have to reach for the charger.
And that's without using the GPS. Have you tried walking about with Google Maps connected to HSDPA and GPS whilst getting calls over bluetooth? Battery life is really only 2-3 hours, if that!
This has been pretty much the same (although the TP2 is the best) with every HTC device I have ever owned.
I am not saying Android is any better but I'm not sure if it's the OS, more the number of features sucking the power.

Ok honestly any phone that you make calls over bluetooth will zip mega energy , theres no way around that. As far as overheating thats an issue. If you have insurance I suggest you tell them your touchpro2 is overheating and to send you a replacement. Your touchpro2 should not get hot like that.
The android under the same use as you just talked about in the above quote will only last an hour tops!! I dare any android user to say it lasts longer under those conditions.
As far as apps and games concerned I found awesome apps
I put them up when i get a chance or link them here. The amount of programs does use up alot of energy , but when 6.5 official rom comes it will reduce battery consumtion by about 30%. Long live the King!!

Where did I say overheat ?
I gets warm/hot depending on definition and every HTC device I have had does the same when dealing with high data throughput, just like the Wifi card on your PC will warm up when transferring large files. It's normal, but it's also a waste of battery power.
Anyway, it's kind of difficult to compare the power usage of an OS without having the exact same hardware to test both on.
Has this ever been done ?
Yes in a way

Well right now as it stands no one has the same OS on both systems but even with half of the programs that touchpro2 has the G2 last less. But I talk facts and not my opinion. So the only thing I can compare is this.
With internet on only surfing thru websites no downolading the G2 last about
2hours45 minutes. Thats 15 minutes less than testers of large magazines said it lasted.
Touchpro2 with internet on surfing thru websites and downloading (i couldnt resist saw some apps) lasted about
6hours 25 min. Me and my friend david( G2 fanboy) did the test. The only variable is david had his phone for 10 months and I had mine 8 months. But I dont think 2 months could have put a dent in his battery that bad. Anyone else test this out.

1. Iam not a scientist lol .
2. Thats the best I can do...I really dont know what your looking for. I just compared battery power.
3. If you want to be very detailed I did a search for you ...go on google type...cnet reviews G2..
4)then after that type..cnet reviews touchpro2..
5)Finally everyone here tries to help there no need for sarcasm. I always try to find answer for anyone who asks. Enjoy your cnet reviews . peace.
Sorry if I didn't find you and your friend browsing the internet on your phones a good comparison of two OS' power usage, and those two reviews still aren't comparing the same hardware.
Without a comparison in which all other influencing factors are ruled out it is impossible to reach any conclusion either way.
what?

1. Both phones will never have the same hardware or software. Microsoft and google are 2 different companies aiming for different uses.HTC produces both according to what the companies are aiming for. So that comparision will never happen. Its just not possible.
2. Mircosoft doesnt put consideration into games or total speed. Microsoft concentrates on buisness and navagation apps. Microsoft also has better and more frequent updates to thier OS. The bad part is sometimes Mircosoft OS is slow.
3.Android is more a youth movement. Games and apps for teens to young adult is googles focus. Google doesnt recieve updates regularly so critical errors in thier OS usually dont get fix without a long waitinig period. Android however is faster as far as interfacing and jumping from app to app.
Well, I do think that there are some people on this board that would like to disagree on your first point since they are currently trying to make Android work on the TP2 and other WM devices. "It's just not possible" is a bit strong.
You may be correct with the Microsoft concentrating on business but since when have they released any navigation software ? If it exists please give me a link. I know there are a lot of 3rd party navigation apps and Google have their maps and new navigation app (only for Android 2.x in the US at the moment). But Microsoft ?
And saying that WM is slow in comparison is, yet again, impossible to gauge without a proper test, trying to exclude other factors.
I'm not sure about this teen thing with relation to Android either. Apple maybe. And the idea that Google doesn't release fixes quick enough kind of misses the point of open source. I'm aware certain parts of any released Android firmware are closed but the fact most of it's open means that you don't have to wait for a fix, you can do it yourself, or if you're not that way inclined you can get a fix from people who are. With Microsoft, however, you do have to wait and that is that.
conterpoints
As far as running android on touchpro2 , if it happens, I put money on it that touchpro2 will run the android OS faster than G2. The reason I say this is because touchpro2 handle on a daily basis way more programs. With Andriod it comes with the basics internet, google maps, youtube, clock, calender, notepad, sorry Iam having a hard time listing cant think of too much that it comes with.
Windows Mobile touchpro2 I dont even have the time to list
what it comes with but I know you already know.
As far as navagation I dont really use much except for what comes with the touchpro2 is good but I have seen some in these 2 websties www.freewarepocketpc.net and
www.wm6software.com . Hope that helps if I have some time later I find direct links for you.
As far as making applications I only know the basics of making games for touchpro2. If you want to and have time I invite you to my website , its the link on my signature. I enjoy debates like this one , Iam glad I could find someone who can hold intelligent conversation like you without flaming.
I have only 1 question why is it just you and me in this conversation , I was hoping more people would join in , this topic we are discussing is not complex. I was hoping someone else with access to both phones like me would have run a test too and see what thier fesult was.
I moved to the Touch Pro 2 from the G1 (still have it), and I have to say that I get MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH better battery life from the Touch Pro 2 than I EVER did from the G1. The Android OS has no task manager (w/o it being rooted/cooked, which I have) and even then, it won't end every application and doesn't save much battery life. The Android OS was less dependable (IMO,) ex: my alarm was unreliable due to sometimes me waking up and it would give me a process error... My Touch Pro 2 would never have that issue (which was recurring atleast 3 times a week on my G1.) I don't know that i would necessarily say that the Android OS is "faster"... but just that it does run "smoother" than sense... I loved Android, but it did happen to be kind of a children's phone (I'm only 22 lol!) and I am in the military so I have to have a very reliable phone! Just my opinion... No "scientific testing" or anything... But I do believe that Zarpy is probably pretty correct in his findings whether they were scientific or not~

If your in military I will assume you like shooting games. This freeware shooter might be fun for you to play try it here

Just trying to get an idea of how much it's actually being used as a day to day os on devices designed for WM
no my battery doesnt last that long. mostly probably do to the power management problem. once that is fixed and everything runs pretty smooth, i plan on using it 100%
i try to use it as long as i can. so i live it charging all the time wen im home. other den tht i use 6.5

i don't use android 70% of the time yet. that is because i don't have a data plan (thank greek carriers for that!! ). i try to find, download, and install apps from my notebook but i don't find many.
i'd say i "play" with android up to 20% atm. but when wifi gets up and running i might use android all day long.
thank all the devs who make this happen!! keep up the good work guys (... and ladies)!!
Nope, but only because we have no powermanagement and sound - for now... I'm hoping these two issues will be solved one day, but i have NO idea if it ever will be
yep. i can say that i use it 70% per day or even more.
switching to winmo only when the battery is low or when i need to charge it ;p
Other than that its XDAndroid as long as possibile
about 25%
i like to keep on window os because htc sense have more information at the screen with out going in to any apps than any os out there.

Same. My battery life is five hours or so. That's longer than the iPhone 3Gs so if other people can do it...I am sure we can too.
agree with U joshua on mine it is pretty much the same as on yours (5 to 5,5 hrs)
what ive discovered just a moment ago- i dont need to charge batt when im launching Haret to be able to charge the phone while using android (lol) i just plug the extUSB (pc or wall charger- doesnt matter), n after couple of secs it displays info on lock screen that the phone is charged..
so actually it is charging ( no iritating green or orange led )
is it only on my Rhodium?
At the moment only running new builds to see what's new.
Will dual boot when wifi, hw3d are finished, will make it permanent when sound and power management are done.
Android on the TP2 is the perfect combination that just wasnt available when the TP2 was launched and my contract was up for renewal - Hi-res screen + keyboard
How do you people do this? 5 hours is nothing. I won't even consider it until there is power management and sound.

No need for sound if I'm at work. And I get to play with it at work...plug it in just before lunch and all is well.
Not to mention, I can freely flash whatever WM ROM I want and not have to worry about MMS and text messages not working.
Android has been my first choice for messaging, emails, browsing and apps for over a week now. I only use the WM for conference calls and YouTube.
not yet... but once wifi power manaement and opengl are there i plan on using it 100% too...
i play with itg though from time to time and i must say before 2 months i never would have imagined it would be there this fast....
I agree. I really need for the sound, power management, wifi and bluetooth to be working 100% for me to use it more than I do on my Touch Pro 2.
Once Wifi, Sound and power management work, I would consider using it more than WM, but without these features I can't utilise my phone properly.
There's been great progress in a relatively short time, so perhaps this will be possible within a few months... though by that time I might have another phone
on alot of devices with xdandroid, things like gps and camera dont work. if everything worked and it had the prettyness of 1.6 with sense and all the features of 2.1 like navigation and live wallpapers, i might just switch. especially with the ui changes in 6.5.x. i have a feeling the next android phone htc releases will not be such a collaboration with google so it will have sense instead of "the google experience" and it will be wvga as all htc devices are from now on. so i think we will have sense then.
I probably run Andriod for about 20 mins every time there's a significant new build. Not much point in a phone that doesn't have any sound
As others have said as soon as power management is in, so am I. I move around too much during the day to leave it plugged in so as soon as I can get ~12 hours on a charge I'm sold.

WinMo 6.1 was almost unusable. I switched to a Tael ROM to run 6.5, which was immensely better, especially using Spb Shell 3.5.
How does Android 2.1 compare? I know its a work in progress. I know its better than WinMo 6.1.. but how does it compare to WinMo 6.5 on the Fuze?
Also, I see mostly Android CDMA work being done for Raphael--anyone actively working on the Fuze (GSM) version?
thanks,
RickH
Actually, most of the work is being done by devs with GSM devices. You probably see more CDMA posts because we have more issues Or we're just special ed, either way.
I love Android, but currently it's not a replacement for WinMo - for me. The main reason being the battery life. While the devs have done great work, the battery is just not up to par - I need to run a full day on idle at least before I can switch over to it.
Is there any reason you haven't given it a shot yourself? You don't flash it to NAND, the entire OS just sits on your SD card - literally nil chance of breaking something hardware-wise with the device!
guess it's worth trying
I just need to find the steps and the latest usable build..
Battery life is that great on WinMo 6.5 either.
Often I find apps that I thought I closed are still active. Now I always check whats running before I put it on standby.(hmm wonder if there is an app to autoclose everything and standby the phone..)
BTW, I found when using the GPS in remote areas putting the phone in Flight Mode works wonders for battery life. GPS stays on, but Bluetooth, phone service, WiFi, are all off.
If you're in an area with poor or no service, turning off the radio will certainly increase performance - one of the main killers of the battery is the phone's radio. If it's constantly searching for a signal or using a lot of power to keep one... you get the point.
Battery life in Android is not on-par with WinMo. At least not for CDMA devices, some on GSM report 10-12hrs of battery life.
Were you having an issue finding builds? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=601751 - that thread, first three posts or so have all the stuff you'll need.
Ive found that on my fuze, winmo 6.5 is horrid, but its got the only reliable battery life i need. I text like 24/7, so on android my battery is gone in an hour or two, while on winmo itll last atleast 8 hours, as long as i got my wifi off and got my screen's brightness turned down.
From one fuze owner to another. I have been running android 100% since GPS was enabled and don't plan on going back!

100%, seriously? how can you keep the battery life all day long? do you have 2 or more batteries as subs?
I have made it on my touch pro at&t!
i got about 3 hours on android, 20 txt messages, about 5minutes on the internet via 3g wifi and gps off, back to the blackberry for now
I like the stability of Windows Mobile, however, I hate not having ANY applications worth downloading.
I have been running Android on my Fuze for the past few days and am EXTREMELY surprised at how well it operates. It is honestly faster than my G1 and more responsive too.
The biggest downfalls I would say, are the lack of camera, poor battery life, and it gets pretty hot.
I honestly wasn't expecting for it to run smooth at all, but was delightfully proved wrong.

sorry about getting back so late on the reply but I just keep my phone charged as much as possible. Unfortunatly with the new stuff(6/21) the battery is a mega killer so back to winmo untill a more battery friendly build comes out. Allthough I did catch a glimps of a new HTC android phone on AT&T shelves yesterday. Tempted to get it for the low low price of $129.99
Hi Android users, i've a question - how about battery draining in normal using of touch pro? I mean using wifi about 10-15min a day, few calls and sms. It's possible to get standtime as long as Winmo(3 days)?
And how about charging - is it good for my battery to charge in Android?
Your battery should charge just fine in Android, but I wouldn't run this 100% of the time.
For one, if you play around with Android a lot, it's going to drain your battery. Talk to people with native Android devices, they don't get 3 days standby... I know someone got ~36hrs, but that was with almost 100% standby (sleep). Wifi is going to slaughter your battery, no matter how you slice it...
This isn't meant to replace WinMo! At least not at this stage in the development... Even if we do get to that point eventually, I doubt the battery life is going to be like WinMo - Android does a lot more than WinMo, and this drains you battery The joys of having a more functional OS.
thanks for answers

I really like android, but before something like harder sleep+ignore apps idiocy will be inserted inside kernel, until that is android cool thing to play with it (on Raphael100, many ports..), but its worts when u need to be online (GSM, data [3g/wifi/anything else]) for longer time then day (with some data transfers).
Ill be really happy droid user again, when battery drain will be solved. But right now, ill prefer slower system, but usable for much longer time then droid (with using ssh, sync, etc.)
I wish we could get some decent battery life out of this. I'd just need enough to get through a day..8-10 hours would be OK...I'm using a rooted Nook Color for serious Androiding and an EnergyROM WinMo build on my TP.
Some report 8 hours, no idea how as my at&t fuze gets about 4 hours tops... but that was with gingerbread alpha2 and updated kernel package.
Hi,
on Android 6 Stock Rom.
Wifi is set to be disabled when the tablet it is idle., however it always stays on and connected.
Anyone else experiencing it
Thanks
Yes, same **** here. Wifi not turning off with that setting and showing high battery drain. Lots of same issues on N5 I read. Flashed 6.0 with wipe last weekend myself. Battery idle drains 2-3% an hour. Everything else like Location incl.scanning off too. Even wirh airplane mode on the drain btw. Where the **** is Doze and App Standby? I just so had it with the Android bugs every time. If many Android apps indeed get ported to Win10 I will try a cheap Win10 from under 100,- for a month to see if worth jumping ship to more expensive Win10 device. I am again just so fed up with the Android bugs every time, also on Nexus. How f-ing difficult can it be compared to a computer OS to make less buggy Android device firmware. Also have an iPhone 5s and iPad Mini 2 but hate iOS. And I hate non-stock Android too btw. Really pissed off right now.

This is the mentality of Google nowaday. Throw anything at Android users and users don't have any option. Not sure what testing Google go before releasing any new Android release with so called high profile engineers they have.
One should file class action A suite against Google for wasting so much energy resource due to this battery drain issue faced by Android 6.0 users.
Surprisingly even high profile Android review sites are also keeping mum on this issue by not even reporting this.
