[Q] Permanent Notification Access? - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone noticed that any application with notification access gets that access removed on a reboot? In my situation, every time I reboot the device (G3 Tweakbox I'm looking at you) it clears the access granted to some apps, specifically Missed It! and MightyText. Its annoying having to reenable them in the setting upon every reboot (in which I won't remember too until Missed It! complains about it), thus is there any work arounds on keeping it permanently enabled? Or is this a limitation of android?

Definitely not an Android thing. Some people have complained about settings not sticking after rebooting from various stock apps. I've never had any such issues though... Which build version are you on atm?

I figured as much, as I didn't remember if I had this problem on my RAZR running CM11 last time I tried these two apps. Here's my software information, so you have everything, I'm also rooted with StumpRoot v1.2 if that matters (doubtful):

Adaway hosts file problem, rooted with CF-Auto-Root

Just received my T-Mobile Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900T yesterday and it's gorgeous! I used CF-Auto-Root to get root in under 30 seconds as advertised! I installed F-Droid and then Adaway, which is my ad blocker of choice, but it has a problem writing the hosts file. I was wondering if this has something to do with not having access to a particular partition? It's not really a huge ordeal and I know the device is brand new but I thought I would throw this out there just in case anyone else had noticed the issue or has a solution. Thanks in advance.

Make sure Busybox is up to date. If you installed it, rebooted, and it still doesn't work, try enabling USB debugging, and try again. That worked for me in the past when I had issues with it not working right.

To update my own results. I couldn't get it to work normally. I had to change the host destination in settings to /data/data/hosts, and then let the app create a symlink. Now it works great.

[Q] Email doesn't push through.

Hi there,
I've currently got my G3 rooted, but on stock and I am using CloudMagic instead of the stock mail app. I don't remember exactly when this happened, but right now, I have to open the app before it goes checking for new mail, while previously it just got pushed and I got a notification.
I am using Titanium Backup (froze some stock LG and Google apps), Greenify (double checked I didn't hibernate CloudMagic) and battery doctor and it's CPU management function to save some juice.
I really need my mail on time for business reasons, so any suggestions would be really helpful!
Is cloudmagic running in the background? (Does it show up in greenify as a backgroud process?) if it does, maybe you just deactivated the notifications. If you have deactivated synchronisation in the settings, cloudmagics push eill not work anymore. The same happens below 5% battery i think.
Yes it is running in the background (checked Greenify). Auto sync is also enabled so I'm not sure what the issue can be.

Well you can see that it's not always running (5h vs 15h on whatsapp) on my phone i have the exact same numbers for cloudmagic and whatsapp
Ah I see, so I'm guessing one of my apps is shutting it down, correct? I also tried to reinstall the app but to no avail.
My guess would be clean master since it has some backgroud process killing feature (i don't use it, only read it on the internet).just tryif it works without it.
Found the problem! It was battery doctor that killed it. Everything works great now. Thanks for helping out, really appreciate it!

CM12.1 File Manager is using network data. Why?

Why in the world is the CyanogenMod 12.1 file manager using my data network? I don't use it for network operations. Heck, I didn't even know it was capable of network access.
This worries me a bit, as it looks a lot like malware behavior.

One day I wanted to do a photo booth @ a movie theater. I got scared, as I used fing from the market, and the photo booth had an ip address!
Probably the same reason you're investigating.

I don't know about this stuff, but I know that CM has an optional account setup when installing their roms. I would think it has something to do with that, (collecting usage info, etc.). Although 10mb seems like a lot... How long have you been running it?

I was running it for less than a week when I noticed this, and I have mobile data turned off most of the time. I have never signed up for a CyanogenMod account.
Another puzzling tidbit: According to the App Info screen, File Manager doesn't even have permission to access the network.

Media share not working correctly

I have an S20 Ultra on T-Mobile, and the media share function acts like it has no memory. The quick select doesn't work, it's like I'm sharing for the first time every time so I have to choose the app and recipient. I've already cleared the cache for quick share and made sure direct share is turned on. Any idea if there's any way to make it remember the apps and contacts, or if there's any settings I need to change to make it work like it did on my Pixel 2 XL?

I had a somewhat similar problem. In my case, I had only 2-3 contacts that never got updated with the recent people I was interacting with.
What helped is to go into the album app and enabling access to contacts (if I remember correctly). After that the quick sharing part started working again..

Do you mean gallery app? I tried that, and it didn't seem to help.
Got a security patch a day or two ago, and as of today the share option was working again. Mysterious ways.
Coming from S10+ this is really frustrating. Share menu is a mess and in any app that I want to share photos it never remembers my top contacts or even top apps.

Solved-disable packages to stop system updates?

I'd like to disable system updates (I don't want Android 11). I have CCSWE app manager, I'm just not sure which packages to disable to make it stop bugging me about available updates. (I'm saving to root my phone, but in the meantime I want the 'update available' notification to GO AWAY)
afaik it's system/privapp/FotaAgent and system/privapp/SOAgent
I'm not sure which of these 4 did the trick, but once they were all disabled the update notification disappeared.

com.wssyncmidm is the culprit I think.
Auto-updates cause a lot more trouble than malware... malware has cost me less than 1% of wasted time compared to that caused by updates.

I'm having major problems dealing with the bloatware that came on my phone to begin with and now this Android 11 update is the end all for me..
Soooo would really be interested in finding out about this CCSWE app manager that you said you have been using to control it. I just heard a lot of bad things about the regular forms of disabling the bloatware being ineffective in Samsung's latest attack on our privacy. Appreciate any info you got to put me in the right direction, thanks.
