Kernel issue?! can someone please help? - Verizon HTC One (M7)

i cannot for the life of me get past this!! bought a replacement vzw htc1 that came with 4.4.2. rooted it, flashed a 4.4.4(?) rom...now the sound does NOT work during calls? works fine otherwise tho. reading i found out its likely because i didnt update to 4.4.3 or 4.4.4 before i flashed? so im assuming its a kernel compatibility issue? i did find a rom that the sound KINDA works..but it isnt right and i hate the rom, the rom is a 4.4.2 ..old rom. so i AM rooted, unlocked and s-off i believe, how can i fix this?? flash a new kernel..which one? fastboot back to stock and go thru the updates? if so, how? i find nothing but CONFUSING tutorials (and im NOT really new to this). ideally id like sense 5.5 4.4.3 so i dont have to drop $25 just to root it? PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE someone point me in the right direction

You just need to update your firmware.
Find my stock rooted Rom thread and flash the latest firmware in post#2.

yea that's what I thought I was going to have to do. but wanted to see if there was an update package someone had made for rooted devices like some others had.

Yes you can. You can't update a phone with CWM recovery though.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Correct a rooted phone can update but not with any custom recovery. You need to flash back to the factory stock recovery.

OK so looks like everyone is here was incorrect. The 4.04 rooted update is here in the XDA forums all i needed to do was flash it and the new antenna and everything is working fine now. here are the links.

Your right, stupid answers, that's not an ota update you did. That was pulled from a phone which was updated and packaged into a flashable file to use on a rooted device. But a carrier ota update as your device was asking you to update will not work without stock recovery.

Isn't that exactly what i asked for second post in? Point is if you knew that, why didn't you say so? Look there's nothing wrong with being wrong every once in a while but be graceful about it. And if your going to give advice make sure you fully read the question and offer decent advice. You were saying there was no way to update it without unrooting and flashing back to stock. That was after I asked "yea that's what I thought I was going to have to do. but wanted to see if there was an update package someone had made for rooted devices like some others had." Is that not exactly what I asked for????

Well, you are right that there are a lot of partially right and partially wrong answers in this thread. But what are you saying is not exactly right either.
1) There is a difference between updating your existing build (like what you had asked to do in the first post) and flashing an entirely new build.
2) There is a difference between running a stock ROM (like what you were running before) and running a ROM that looks like it's stock, but is not (like what you are running now).
3) Root has NO impact whatsoever on your ability to install OTA updates on your stock ROM.
4) An OTA update will NOT install with a stock recovery UNLESS you are using the stock recovery version that came with the build you are using. (It seems like a lot of toolkits are flashing non-matching stock recoveries).
5) An OTA update file can EASILY be installed if you have CWM installed. See here.
6) Your phrase "unrooting and flashing back to stock" is silly, as flashing back to stock replaces your ROM, so why would you need to "unroot" your current ROM only to flash a stock ROM overtop? You don't root a device - you root an Android OS build. The phrase "root my device" does not make any sense.

HTC M8 Hong Kong Help (No version_main)

Hi everyone!
I recently unlocked my bootloader and rooted my m8.
I tried using firewater to "s-off" my phone and unfortunately, it did not work out. The way I understand it, I cannot install stock ROMs (such as the 5.0.1 GPE) without "s-off." Now, I want to unroot my phone and stick to waiting for the OTAs to roll out instead.
I followed the instructions in the "returning to stock" thread and noticed that I have no version main (see attached image). I looked around the forums and saw that the advice was to flash the latest TWRP version. Since I'm stuck with a phone that I cannot update, I'm trying to be careful now. Can anyone please confirm if flashing the latest TWRP will bring my version main back?
The noob in me also has a few questions/requests as well:
1. Since my phone is rooted, I cannot receive OTA updates and upgrade to lollipop once these updates roll out?
2. Please tell me which files to download to return to stock. Just trying to be really careful this time around.
3. Lastly, is it also true that I can only install custom ROMs once have rooted? As to stock ROMs, I can't install them until I get "s-off"?
Thanks a lot, everyone! Cheers!

[Q] Best way to upgrade US i-467 (AT&T) to 4.4.2

Sorry for the post, but I've looked elsewhere and searched can't seem to find the best, fastest, and easiest way to accomplish this.
1. I have an AT&T GN8.0 (SGH-i467) on 4.1.2. Build CAMF2. I'd like to upgrade to 4.4.2 The device is rooted, with locked bootloader and stock recovery. I also have an AT&T Pay-as-you-go SIM installed.
2. I'd like to end up on 4.4.2 rooted. I have never been offered the 4.4.2 upgrade on my device and I'm not sure if it's because I have a PAYG sim or it's cause I'm rooted.
3. I'm not afraid of Odin, download mode, etc., so if anyone can help me figure out the best way to get myself upgraded, I'd appreciate it. If you want to point out some posts, threads, etc., that can help, that would be great too, but I've scanned all of those and it all just gels together to where I'm not sure what's what anymore.
Thanks.
Don't try to update via OTA with a rooted ROM as it may cause a softbrick. I recommend unrooting and trying to update or flashing a stock ROM from sammobile.com and then try to update to KK.

Thanks, that make sense.
Going back to stock shouldn't be a problem, but any thought to if I can update to 4.4.2 with a PAYG SIM? If not, is there a flashable file and method that you can point me to?
It has been my experience with various phones that OTA updates should work regardless of whether a sim is or is not inserted.

Recent i bought a N2. I was on 4.4 stock but don't know how my IMEI number got corrupted. So Samsung service center guy tried everything but failed(he was not skilled i guess) , at last he downgraded the phone to 4.1.1 and advised me not to upgrade it future.
But i want to taste custom RoM but i m still using ugly stock 4.1.1 which is so bad.
Please tell me whole procedure that i should follow to flash a Custom Rom ( like Eclipse or DN4 or anything ) and do not face IMEI corruption problem and please do remember that i m currently on 4.1.1 stock rooted.

Well, if it was on 4.4.2 stock I doubt the downgrade to 4.1.1.
Check your bootloader version with Samsung info app from play store and let us know.

As expected - it is 4.4.2 KitKat so the attempt to "downgrade" has failed and yes, the rest of firmware is older.
It is kinda mixture and if it works for you I won't push you to change and update. There's always a little risk - I would take - and upgrade to newer kitkat for your region - get it from sammobile and flash through Odin, where are you from?

I m from India and yeah i found 4.4.2 stock for my region http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/40791/N7100XXUFNL1_N7100ODDFNI1_INU/
And sorry my English is little weak. As you said it is mixture now. So is it risky to do anything with it? Also after upgrading to 4.4.2 via odin. Can i able flash custom roms? Or i better stick with stock 4.4.2?
Actually the reason why i want to upgrade is i get random reboot occasionally and 4.1.1 feel very odd since i have been on 4.4.2 earlier.

Whenever you modify your device there's still a little risk but nothing major.
This mixture you are running is definitively the reason for inconvenience - so go for a newer 4.4.2 and you'll be ready to enjoy custom roms you like.

Have you unlocked your bootloader ?
No not too sure how to do that. Any good threads you guys reccomend.
Many thanks
So I know this is scary for you and because it is something new, therefore be sure that you want to live with the responsability if something goes wrong.
Now, the next forum thread tells you how to flash an already rooted image BUT, and this is very important, this works only if you have the version 10c installed (Check in About Phone>Software Version)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/orig-development/root-tmo-vzw-intl-variants-soon-root-lg-t3164765
If you have the latest version of the software (20a) the best thing is to unlock your bootloader, void your warranty in the process, and flash a custom recovery. After that, you just need to flash the SuperSu zip file and you will have root.
To flash custom ROMs, just access recovery and flash the zip file of your ROM.
I'm using the unofficial CM13.0 and works very good for me, but I do miss the official camera app.
Thankyou very much for your advice okarr. Will look into this
