Hi, I find a lot of flashable themes that use VR Theme. How do I use VRTheme in an almost stock rom? How do I add VRTheme in a rom?
Is it better to decompile an APK and copy the new images over the original and compile it again to an APK?
Any tips about this are welcome
Thanks in advance!
Found a nice tutorial about changing png's inside an APK. Been playing with that and replaced all the things out of an existing Sense theme into the rom I am using now, and it works

Just to clarify, is this the default SGA touchwiz theme or REALLY the Gingerbread theme with only 3 buttons on the launcher?
this work on gingerbread KPH with custom rom CODENEXUS ???
Works also on RC4.2 because there are no changes to SystemUI.
Thanks telispetsinos for the tip!
I read that lippol94 mod works on RC4.1 but just in case are any changes to SystemUI.apk in the RC4.1 I did this MOD.
Thanks to lippol94 for his work from RC3.1 and to everyone else for contribution.
I did this mod from RC3.1 MOD by lippol94 for my own use.
All credits goes to lippol94 from which I copied the files for this MOD and of course to ICSSGS TEAM who made ICS possible on i9000.
RC4.1/RC4.2 are ODEXED ROM's.
The MOD is only for battery percentage, no other changes.
Backup before updating.
hello,
works on this too: I9000_STOCKPLUS_ICS_RC4-PLUS???
tx.
Just tried the ODEX version on OneCosmic's RC 4.2 and works great!
Thanks a lot!

No need to. If you are odex then flash this mod and then with the apk open in a zip extractor drag and drop the .pngs inside drawable-hdpi and that should be ok. Don't add any files. If you have issues with the apk not working then you could try bringing across the manifest from the other apk (if you have used ALL of the .pngs from the other .apk?) as I believe the manifest has MD5 sum checks in it, or you can break down the manifest file in notepad++ and copy all the checks into your own manifest? That may allow you to flash...follow the tut in the link that someone else posted above. what ever is easier
Edit: I would not follow that tute in the link posted. That will not work.
If you have disixda's kitchen you will see an option to deodex apks. If you see how that script works you can reverse it, baiscally it will drag out of the apk the dex file and make you an .odex file
we can all sacrifice a little space for optimised usage, but the .odex file AFAIK is not actually any benefit in system performance, only boot performance/speed?

Send me your apk with pngs in it and I will try make one for you
Be careful with the files you are using or the tuts you follow cause this can happen:

thanks Jarmezrocks, I was able to mod my battery icons following your suggestion: I take the icons from "Dotten Circle Battery" mod (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1421876) and then I simply updated the SystemUI.apk in the "Onecosmic_RC4.1_Battery_Percentage_ODEX.zip" file (paying attention to not add more icons respect the existing ones).
I've also tried before with the method suggested by Qobok, but the odexing process failed..., I've to study more odex/deodex process...
in attachments screenshot and my modded zip (do always a backup before trying a mod ).
P.S. I'm on ICSSGS 4.2 (i9000).
I'll wait for next release of Onecosmic

I'm here. Now I'm guessing you want to change default cm theme to your preference on boot. You will have to theme framework. Give me the theme you want and the rom. I will change the system theme.

IS THAT RELATED ?
You can start by just copying and extracting the framework-res.apk in the system/framework folder of any theme. I recommend using a stock deodexed theme template as this will give you a good foundation to build from. After you extract the framework-res.apk look in the res/drawable-mdpi folder. That is where most of the icons will be that are used for theming. You can pull any of the .png's and edit them this way. DO NOT mess with any of the icons labeled .9.png when editing the framework-res.apk this way (see info on .9's below). And don't (generally) don't change the size of the png's you edit.
When getting started the best way I found to figure out which images are used where was to flash the same theme as the one I am editing to my phone so I can look at the phone and try to figure out where the icon (image) is being used. If I still can't find it then I will take my best guess and color the image something bright like red or another color thats not used in the theme I'm making. Then I put the color edited icon in my theme and flash it (see below) then go through my phone and find whats red.
After you edit all the .png's you want and are ready to put your theme back together:
Open a copy of the original theme that you used as a base and open the system/framework/framework-res.apk in 7zip. DO NOT extract it. Just open it. Then go to res/drawable-mdpi (or whatever folder you edited the icons in) and place your edited icons back into this folder. After you finish, close 7zip, rename your new theme so you don't confuse it with the theme template you are using and flash away.
I'm not going to go into great detail about how to do the things below because I simply don't have the time. I have given you enough information that you should be able to google and look for guides on youtube that will get you through the process below.
When editing .9.png's (commonly refered to as .9's) you need to pick up some software. First you'll need to download and install the jdk and jre. Google them. They are on Java's web site. Once you get those installed you'll need to get apk tool or apk manager, I prefer apk tool myself, and decompile the framework-res.apk to be edited.
If you edit the .9's but stay away from that one pixel wide border you won't have to patch your .9's. This is what I do. When I open a .9 to edit the first thing I do is draw a selection box around the image making sure to stay clear of the one pixel wide border. This way all my changes stay inside the selection box. If you ever do decide you need to patch your .9's there is a program called draw9patch that will do this for you.
Happy Theming!!

other that theming non-stock launchers, is there a way to install a theme chooser compatible with cm10 and aosp themes?

As long as the assets are compatible (have to check drawable-hdpi in each apk) then you should be able to simply push a new SystemUI.apk to /system/app/ I made my own theme for the first ICS release by DMan, and pushed it through ADB and it works fine.
If there are assets missing, or not set up right (EX: missing .9 patches) it could bootloop or cause your SystemUI to crash. So backup before testing, obviously.

So I might get lucky by just pushing systemui.apk from cm9 or cm10?
My goal is to be able to use a theme like cobalt blue for cm10 on a stock rooted rom!

No sir. CM themes use different assets, you'd have to manually mix and match the proper assets to the drawable-hdpi folder of the stock ROM.

ok I found something very close to what I was looking for! Here is a link to what I want to have done!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1334922&page=1629
I have attempted to manually paste the items into the rom I'm working on but to wont boot, not will doing this to individual system apk's render them not to work! I read through the thread and it seems that the op isn't responding anymore to the thread!
being you are a very eperienced themer, would it be possible for you to look at this and maybe get this to work for the glide?
I would greatly appreciate this.
if you are able to, here is a link to the rom a friend and I have been working on that we would like to have this them working on!

Its likely not booting due to missing assets. Almost every ROM has different SystemUI/Framework assets. Example, the theme elements in Cyan10 are vastly different than any of our stock roms.
If you want to convert a theme from another phone, it can be done. But its not as simple as just pasting the corresponding apk in. It depends on othee things as well... The glide's main theme file is SystemUI.apk, whereas some phones use Framework-res.apk so there is also that to consider.
Converting themes from another device, you'll have to go in to the theme you want to convert, and match the files up to the theme you're replacing. You'll have to change file names and make sure no files are missing, also make sure you're only using HDPI themes.

anyone know the step to apply custom theme ?
cause I have been using the old method to install the custom theme on this magic UI but it doesnt work at all
You have to use Honor themes, Hauwei themes don't/won't work.
You still customize the same way and install the same way using the theme app.
anyone know where to get the honor theme ? besides in the Themes app? because the current default theme icon seems too big tbh
I've tried all hwt files and paste them in all honor folders whereas custom themes are not shown in theme app.
I bought this phone only for that to have custom themes and it seems that magic ui 6 is the issue
