So what kernels are available for this device that are actually updated once in a while?
I'm looking for Paranoid Android/CM11 kernels or what is better known as AOSP KK.

The kernels are found in Original Android Development and the Unified Development section. The OP will tell you if the kernel is for TouchWiz, CM, or GPE ROMs; and if the kernel happens to have different versions of the same kernel for each CM, TW, and GPE it will list that also. Just check when the OP was last updated to know when the last time the kernel has been updated.

So I have the newest miui rom that is in the android development section. I am wondering if there are any kernels that I can change to that are better than the one it comes with. Am I even able to switch kernels?

Get the AOSP version of it JB also
Isn't there a kernel by faux or something? Or is there only one kernel I can have?
Yes, Fuax has a JB CM10 kernel. It's what I use since KT747 doesn't ever work for me.

I have recently installed CM10 on my AT&T galaxy s3(sgh-i747) and was wondering how to figure out if a kernel is compatible with my device. I was looking at the Devil kernel and didn't understand how to know if it would work with my phone.
Read the kernels thread OP. It should specify if it's for AOSP ROMs or Touchwiz ROMs. Kernels for our devices can be found in the Android development and original development sections.

So what specifications would it need to be compatible with my phone.

You mentioned CM10, so you want one that works with AOSP based ROMs. Also make sure they explicitly say CM10(Jellybean 4.1) or CM10.1 (Jellybean 4.2.1), depending on what version of Jellybean you have.

So im I'm looking at the kernel kt747 by ktoonz and there is a version for jellybean 4.2.1 and one that just says jellybean would it be safe to flash the one that just says aosp jellybean version (BTW I have cm10 so I have 4.1.2 not 4.2.1)? Thanks for all of the help.
Flash the one that says jellybean AOSP (12/11).

Yes. Flash the normal JB version. 4.2.1 is solely for 4.2.1. Not 4.1.2
Thanks
It worked well, thanks everyone for the help.
I'm looking for any AOSP kernels not based on CM. It turns out the current 3.4 kernels for CM mess up my phone badly causing random reboots. I do not yet know how to build a kernel, hence I'm searching for the possibility of any that is not CM based.
Nope, they are all forked from CM's common one unfortunately
And it wouldn't just require building a kernel...you would need to port another AOSP kernel which is no easy task
Then I guess it's back to TW for good until the problem I'm having with CM 3.4 kernel is fixed, if ever. It was a nice ride with CM right from my GNex to this SGSIII d2spr. Now I can understand why AOKP do not have an AOSP ROM for the Sprint variant of the S3... It just doesn't work...
FAIL for CM... Bye to CM...
in what way does your phone "mess up"? i have the same device and i have not had a problem with Kernels at all
Hello there
4.4.4 has been out for a while now on a couple of custom ROMs but unfortunately I cannot seem to find any custom kernels that support it. I looked in both the Android Development and Original Android Development sections but the latest I could find were for 4.4.3.
The reason I am asking is because I would like to install MultiROM but it requires kernels with kexec-hardboot patch, like ElementalX and such. I am currently running the latest Android Revolution HD 20.1 4.4.4 which I assume has a stock kernel?
Can anyone please help and/or point me in the right direction? Would it be possible to install kernels based on 4.4.3 if 4.4.4 ROMs are still using an older kernel or would I just have to wait?
Thanks1

No custom kernels exist yet for Sense 4.4.4. Custom kernels require access to the kernel code, and that is yet to be released yet by HTC. Unfortunately, those who have tried 4.4.3 kernels on 4.4.4 roms have ended up with bootloops.
Yeah.. bootloops is what I was afraid would happen. Thanks for your information, cr1960, I appreciate it.
I've tried multiple builds of DU and CM on my HTC One m8 and I'm getting random reboots nearly everyday. I figured I should try a different kernel. Never used a custom kernel before so I tried finding some on Google but all I could find where articles talking about why I should use a custom kernel, but not where I can get one. Is there a list or database of popular kernels out there?
You'll find a number of kernels if you look in the Development and Original Development forum sections. But unfortunately, nearly all are for Sense and GPE ROMs, and won't work on AOSP ROMs like DU and CM. On that note, since AOSP ROMS use different kernel(s) from Sense and GPE; you already in fact have tried 2 different custom kernels.
If you still want to try different kernels, what you can do, is take the boot.img from another similar base (same Android version) AOSP ROM, and flash it using fastboot. Such as the DU kernel with CM (or Slim kernel, etc.). But honestly, I have no idea how much the devs tinker with the kernels on these AOSP ROMs.
Be sure to make a TWRP backup of your current ROM before flashing a different kernel; in case it doesn't work and things go south, you can easily revert.
