It had been my pleasure developing for ION community. I think I have contributed a little to development.
Now, I got rid of ION and bought myself dead Z1, which I brought to life in 5 minutes (lol). I also removed Sony's original crappy plastic screen and back covers, which had a lot of scratches, so now the formerly dead device looks brand new. Needless to say, I unlocked the bootloader and installed Slimkat (Slimbean/Slimroms), which I think is the best aftermarket rom. I loved it on ION and continue to enjoy on Z1.
Good luck to all ION users. I will miss you.
Thanks!!!!
We will miss you more. Thank you very much for your work.
I wish you all very well in life.

This forum seems kinda dead now...once the Ion came out this forum thrived for a bit. Sadly no roms or themes
We have CM9 though, which is good news. Though sadly only a handful of us here can actually install it.

I would delete this post...i made a similar thread about 3 days ago... and people raged so hard. It was slightly funny, but i guess i really hurt someones feelings
so please remove or you will face the wrath of online anger...
Why? Its just disappointing to see that a phone with great potential have rarely any development. I understand that we do have devs here (thanks to all for CWM and other mods and such) but its still disappointing.
I'm hoping that when the Xperia T comes out in more regions that Sony will let us unlock the bootloader (though I'm not holding my breath). Once unlocked I'm pretty sure that things will pick up a lot. Kind of sucks that such a good phone is happered by something so stupid.

Yeah, once we are able to unlock our bootloaders things should definitely pick up. Hope that MIUI develops for the LT28 soon aswell. This lack of customization is killing me.
I guess that's what you guys get for being early adopters and hoping a dev community will spring up. If you want a phone for custom roms and other things you should wait till you are sure there will be developers for the device.
Complaining that there isn't dev for a device you already bought knowing at the time there was not much development is pretty dumb if you ask me.
I for one get a device because I like it as it is. If there is further development for the device after I get it great but that's just a bonus.
Just like buying a phone in hopes of an update is not a wise decision, buying a device hoping their will be development isn't any better.
You also have to remember the.ion wasn't a flagship device or one that was pushed very hard so there would obviously be less interest for the major developers to work on it.

I like the phone aswell, but coming for an Arc with an unlocked bootloader i just miss the customization you know? We can only hope that the ion will get dev attention eventually.

Thing to remember also is the ion is very much the same as the Xperia S with a few small differences so mods for the S shouldn't be too hard to convert to the ion.

Well said - you know what you got - it's your decision buying/sign contract for. So what's there to whine about. Xda is a plus IMO.

Also rather than complain you cam take actionand learn yourself. Android is one of the most open source project since html. There are lots of resources available to learn and I know this because I for one have noticed the lack of developments so I decided to learn.
Also begging for development doesn't help the cause. If you would like resources to learn start with developing simple apps and expand.

If i knew how to develop miui that'd be great...thats all im really hoping for
EDIT: Is there any big differences between the ion and the acro s? Cobrato's just released a method to convert xperia s roms to work with the acro s. Heres the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914328
EDIT2: Nevermind, doesnt work. Possibly we could figure a method to exploit his conversion to work with our ion?

But without CM9/10, you cannot port Miui.
Now, that Cm9 is out for ION, we can try and port it.
I will give it a try.
Proudly announce that there's a Vietnamese person has released an Rom Cooked name X-Ion Kudo v1 on local forum. Let's search and try
Just checked it out, nothing special. Just a stock rom with various tweaks that i could do myself. I'm really hoping for MIUI to develop for the ion
I have already tried porting MIUI. But I could not go beyond the MIUI Logo.
Since I am on CM9, it is easier for me to keep testing. Hope to get it right soon.:fingers-crossed:

I hope you get some good results!
I think one reason why this phone is lacking devs is that there are too meany of these xperia phones out that are all pretty much the same and with the prices being the same as well. I bought my wife the lt28h due to it having support for what t-mobile calls "4g". With these devices dev will come easier from ports of other similar phones. It is only a matter of time. We the owners of these ION phones have but only three choices 1. Learn to dev 2. sell phone buy one with heavy dev teams 3. Wait for developments. I for one would be happiest with a fully working ics/miui or a ics/ASOP. But I am pretty happy with just the stock rom for now.
We have now CM9, CM 10 and MIUI. Not so bad for a phone that has a locked bootloader in the U.S. and has begun selling in Europe at the same time as the Xperia T.
According to this, aokp Jelly Bean is on the way for unlocked bootloader.

I'm hoping we get a few more stock kernel roms too. Unless we figure out bl unlock someday. But overall, I'm pretty happy with current state.

I have noticed that at least 2 developers have stopped or postponed development on the ZL.I see that the rooting, and installation of a recovery is much more challenging than for example the S4 or HTC One. I do not see many roms out for the ZL os opposed to the S4 and HTC One. My concerns are that this is not a phone that is going to receive the same attention from Developers as others. I just got the ZL a few days ago and really like the phone itself, but am concerned with the lack of or less development. Does anyone know the reason why?
It took the ZL a while to have any significant amount of development. Bear in mind that the Z1 is very recent and will be several weeks before it is available everywhere. Had to buy mine from Clove because it is going to be at least another month until the US starts to see them.
Since I started developing Android apps at work (been a C# dev for 10 years but novice to Android and Java) I got my own builds of Cyanogen working last week (for the ZL).
Sony does a great job in providing resources for developers. However, it is way less time consuming to develop apps than deal with ROMs... That may explain why you don't see more people doing it ... Some don't want or can invest the time.
Personally, I am happy with the Sony ROMs and would not benefit much for custom. In fact my tablet Z has been stock since day 1. If I was using a bloated Samsung or HTC... Well...

Hi guys I need a new phone for 2014 as my arc is getting really old, problem is i cant seem to find a phone that has all the stuff I want.
I really want the phone to be an xperia because the modding community is without equal, and would really like a removable battery, other than hat i really don't mind.
I can think of a few xperia like that however the specs are really kinda cruddy, the thing I love about the Arc the most has to be you can use it with one hand and it feels heavy and solid, not something most phones have these days
If you guys could make any suggestions I would be so grateful
Thanks
(OMG JUST AS I WAS ABOUT THIS, found the Xperia ZL, great specs, hard reset button (what i really need removable battery for) and looks so comfortable to hold

Wrong place to post. This is the General Section for Xperia Arc/S, not a forum to ask for phone recommendations. Just because you own an Xperia Arc does not give you the right to use this forum to post something unrelated.
As for your choice of phone, it will depend on what you will use it for, since each phone has a unique selling point. Also, don't gauge the phone based on specs. You need to hold the actual unit and test it out. That is why every phone retailer has a sample phone for you to hold and test before you buy the actual thing. The phone can have the best specs but if you don't like to use it, you just wasted your money.

Yeah sorry about that just really the closest forum I could figure as I was looking for a phone that was pretty much like the Arc only better specs, even if it is 3 years old it still has a special place in my heart and I still think it's better then some of the more recent phones. Kinda sad to see it go so I really wanted something similar, couldn't really think of anywhere else to post this.
And yeah I know feel is important however based the design and weight of the zl i'm pretty damn sure ill like it alot

Well if you're adamant about it I can't change your mind, but do test the phone out at your local phone retailer before buying it.

So, i've been an avid android user for a while. to be honest, i only tried an iphone 4s (loved the damn little bugger, but got bored of ios) and then continued my realm of android glory. recently had a 5s, which i also enjoyed untill i got, again bored of ios and the insanely horrible battery life. To be conclusive, i love android, but aparently im pulled towards metal and things that seem and feel like they have a good build quality. Recently im without phone, and id like some opinions as ive NEVER gone near a htc device. How does it compare to a nexus Flashaholicly speaking? does the bootloader and s-off thing make it super maleable? does it loose anything when it gets the bootloader unlocked? do you guys believe it could be better than a z3 or maybe a moto x (2014).??
I'd love to read all of your opinions, so please give it all you've got! maybe this Thread will make more confused shoppers buy the M8 or something.
Thanks in advance bro's
The M8 development is booming for a non nexus device for sure! Lots of options.
As for Moto, like the original Moto x, I wouldn't suspect there will be that much development....as some will struggle to get root or unlocked bootloaders, like the 2013....And most don't want to give up the unique Moto features. You lose those if you aren't on stock or stock based roms. Definitely not a "flashers" device.
I know nothing of the Z3.

I think the M8 is still the device to be beaten at the moment. If you can get past the ocd opinions with the camera and enjoy the features it has, its a top quality device with the slickest software and nicest build quality.
Not good news for the Z3 in development terms. Maybe a work around will be found but it's pretty off putting.

I bought my GIO in the September of 2011. I used it for 3 years and 10 months. Never got tired of it.
But now with the demand of a good camera i bought Sony Xperia Z3 Dual.
I transferred my data and all and have kept my GIO in a safe place. No i am not! If you are thinking i'm gonna sale this baby, you're wrong. I am not letting this go. I'm gonna keep it with me for as long as i can. Stuff like this isn't just any other gadget/thing/item, it becomes more than that.
Possibly this is my last thread on this GIO forum and all i want to say is that i really enjoyed coming here and getting into discussions about ROMs and MODs and all. It been a lovely ride but now it has to end.:crying:
Thank you all. Goodbye.
Regards,
Daniyal.
