Bye OG E975 - LG Optimus G (International)

I just dropped my OG on a concrete ground yesterday. Screen shattered and now unusable lol. It's been fun using it for over a year. OG was my first android phone and I am looking forward to buying another android phone this coming month
Anyways, thanks for everyone here in "LG Optimus G (International)" forum. I've learnt so many things here about android phones, flashing and many more. It was a good experience for a first timer :good::good::good:

Since you created a thread just for this, perhaps you could offer your device to some devs.

LG's software update record?

Hey folks. Looking at the G3, but I'm wondering how good LG has been with keeping their previous phones up to date. I know we have custom roms, but even those tend to be better if made from an official release. Anyone have past experience with LG?
Most of it is due to your carrier, but LG getting it there is on the slower side as well.
Sent from my LG-D959 using Tapatalk
Yes 2 past experiences with lg. One never got updates other OGP still on 4.1.2 in India as launched since last 14 months.
Helping Others is helping Ourself
On g2 which is kinda how they are handling their flagships updates were in line with everyone else
Sent from the BEST phone I've ever owned my LG G2
their "flagship" Flex took 6 months to get kit kat
their G2 took a long time as well months to get it
both on T Mobile
Problem is, you can never really tell if its the mfg or the carrier that makes this process so incredibly s-l-o-w
It was discussed already in all Optimus forums like http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=46985909& and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2465663 and here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2491277

Of course its your carrier which is to blame. I've bought F320K and have had my kitkat on Christmas present, around 27 December. Yes, stock Kitkat on G2 was available before New Years eve.
yeah, that is probably the case; although, of course, when I would call tmobile and ask why there was no update out, they always said that LG hadnt released it to them, so you can't really know who was feeding the line of BS to folks..

First of all. .. If you believe anything you hear from customer service of any of the u.s. carriers them I have some ocean front property in Phoenix to sell you.... none of them know anything ... They are just lackies who don't really care about their jobs and could really care less about the phones etc .... Yes I will abut l admit their are a couple that do know but 99.99 % are freaking retarded
Sent from my SM-N900P using Xparent BlueTapatalk 2
agreed; I never call them when I really want to know the "facts"; I do have a inside contact in mgmt at T-Mobile, who all along admitted they weren't sure when kit kat was actually going to be out for the 2 lg phones I have..
my only point was if you are buying a phone from any of the domestic carriers in the USA, you can never really be sure when and if your OS will be updated, so if that's important to you, a unlocked, international model might be a better choice. What annoyed me was the "implied" promise of kit kat, on the G2 and the Flex from LG never actually turned out to be accurate, and, as I said, It took 6 months for kit kat to come to the Flex, which seems crazy, for their "cutting edge, top of the line" product..
Chances are that if you are not receiving updates it is only because your carrier doesn't give a rats ass about your satisfaction. Un-branded and unlocked devices typically receive updates shortly after new versions are released by Google. The order of major manufacturers' speed in updating software goes like this:
Motorola
HTC
Samsung
LG.
I highly recommend unlocked devices if you have the money to spend. However if you a poor schmuck like me and rely on contract devices, then you can either root and flash custom ROMS (say goodbye to warranty) or suffer in eternal damnation like the damn peasants that we are (according to carriers).

Korean version will be the first device to be updated.
Only then LG will work on Int'l version.
Of course US Residents(Tmo,att, verzion, sprint etc..) will get updates later than the int'l version due to carriers.
As far as I know, G2 int'l version got kitkat two or three months later the Korean version got it...
I know this so well because I have been watching LG from Optimus LTE2 (Currently using)... (G G Pro G2 GFlex Gpro2) - I am Korean
Samsung and HTC used to be notorious for slow updates, now LG has the tag. With any of the new Flagships (S series, M series, G series) updates will be in line with each other. My G2 got Kit Kat on T-Mobile before my wifes HTC M7 did.

Farewell T989 Community

While it's been a great year run, albeit with a few hiccups, it is time to retire my Hercules.
I can remember June 11th, 2013 as if it was yesterday. Waiting patiently for UPS to arrive (and eventually waiting until 10 pm, but that's another story). I received the package from HSN. It was my brand new T-Mobile Galaxy S II. After setting it up and then sleeping. I set off to root it! (No custom rom at this point.) I was surprised at all of the information I found here coming from the somewhat barren Optimus L9. I rooted it and immediately changed the DPI haha. Idk why now because that was the only time i ever changed it! About a month later however all the trouble started. The SIM card slot was broken (one of the pins) and I had to mail it in. So I did! Anxiously waiting for it to arrive again it made its way. I then re rooted and installed a custom rom... that night I was awakened by the sound of the phone rebooting over and over again endlessly.... the power button was suck.... I called Samsung (after trying the many fixes listed here) and sent it in..... it came back a week or so later... 2 days later.... same issue! So then I sent it back AGAIN talked to a manager..... they said theyd just give me a new one.... 2 weeks later it came back....... fixed but not new.... I slapped CM10.2 on it and was super happy. This would be the end of all the warranty issues finally! I then just flashed roms occasionally mainly from Hell Devs and enjoying my time in these threads. I almost crapped my pants when I had Kitkat for the first time . Here we are now though over a year later. Yes this device has caused me many headaches with its somewhat horrible battery life and somewhat odd FC's and RR's but this device is what made me love Android and know that by ditching my iPhone 4 I made the best decision ever! It is now time to say goodbye however. As I have just purchased my first current gen Android device. The Galaxy Note 3! I can't wait to see what lies ahead of me now with this great device and I hope to see many of you over there in the T-Mobile Note 3 Threads! I love you all and thanks so much for making my T989 what it is today, and for making me love android
ps - I messaged a mod about making this thread but never got a reply. I hope its "legal" to post this here, I really wanted to say goodbye and thank you I love you all!!!
I was there too. Have worked up the line through the phones and forums listed in my sig. Good times at each stop.
goodbye! take care!

[Q] anyone would like to port?

I really like the G pad 8.3 and have had no regrets since buying it couple of months ago. But last week I had the opportunity of messing around with a 7 and 10.1 g pad, and I have to say, I'm impressed with the new software. It's simple, more elegant, smoother and has more customization features than the previous version of Optimus UI.
For that reason, I'd like to know if anyone would like to port one of these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2783192
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788077
Please, before posting, it's merely a suggestion, since I'm too scared of trying this myself and end up with a 300 bucks brick :silly:

How quick has LG released updates?

All these snippets of news about the LG G4 I'm reading has got me interested. The one thing that'd put me off is if they really drag their feet releasing Android updates to the phone. How quick has their turnaround been for the G2 and G3? I see that the G2 (now 18 months old) got updated to 5.0.2 which is promising. If they continue to support the top end phones for at least 2 years, then that's awesome news and so much better than Samsung and Sony.
Thoughts?

They've always been really slow with releasing updates, but after 5.0 came out they were among the first companies to release the update. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, the G3 got it before some Nexus devices, which is known for getting the updates first.
Used to suck, but they changed their game around.
well, we'll find out in the coming weeks with 5.1. it's been out for a little while and so far nothing. that's right though, as long as LG is faster than Samsung, they're doing something right...

Yes it'll be interesting. I think a few other manufacturers have had a few exceptional quick turn arounds for releasing an Android OS update but then fallen back to old ways. It will be interesting to see how long 5.1 takes to come out, if they are quick then I think I'll have my eye on the LG G4 otherwise I may wait for the next Nexus phone. I'm currently rocking a Nexus 5 which I'm really happy about. Still performing great.
Has anyone had a HTC One and moved over to LG? I have been very interested in the LG G4 for a variety of reasons, but have been with HTC since the original Desire, but their cameras have really not been great. What do you like more about the LG? How different is the LG skin to sense? Are you able to achieve S-off? Sorry for all the questions but very interested to know what your opinion is.

Is anyone else around here?

It could be the fact that the G4 is a fairly new phone...it just seems like this forum is a ghost town. I personally love my new phone and I hope development gains some momentum.

Once a safe root is released things will pick up. After a bootloader solution is found, things will get crazy I'm sure.

I'm wondering why this place is empty as well. If you head on over to the Android Central blog, there's quite a bit more activity and discussion going on.
Most people are hanging out in the general G4 forum, as there really isn't anything specific to the Verizon G4 when you don't have root.
That a a valid point. I think I'll stop by the lg g4 forum on my lunch break.

Exactly. Add to that the fact that for the first several weeks, there was only the general G4 forum. The carrier-specific forums are a recent addition. A lot of people had already started engaging in conversations in the general G4 forum and simply became used to going to there.
Just picked up my G4 this week (coming from a G2) I've been following the board since the phone was announced. As mentioned, the carrier specific boards tend to lag behind the general board (which I'm spending the majority of my time (reading) as well).

Eh, I dunno about that. Samsung and HTC releasing their flagships at around the same time kinda put our babies in the shadow. Granted, typically they're all always released in the same time frame, LG didn't put much marketing effort into their flagship, even though it's arguably the best phone out ATM. I think it's because the larger portion of sales for LG devices are overseas.
