If you're rooted, you can try this SDFix app. I had to use it so I could use TiBu to restore my apps when I got the G3.

I am able to move files to the SD card with a file browser on the phone, just can't safe to it directly. Can't file transfer to a mac either.
Tried that app fix but it doesn't appear to work.

[Q] HELP I can't install anymore apps!

I installed my froyo update on 31st Aug. and the same day i forced all of my apps to be installed to SD using ADB shell pm SetInstallLocation.
Since then i have installed numerous apps with a high percentage of the data being taken onboard my SD card as intended.
Today, all of a sudden, i find myself unable to install any apk getting a message 'installation unsuccessful.'
I have 66.61mb of phone storage available and 3.37gb remaining on my SD card.
On my SD card i have a folder '.android_secure' containing 114mb af ASEC files which i assume is the folder for the apps stored on my SD card but i am not really sure about this.
Could anybody advise as to what is the problem as i am really at a loss with this and don't know what to do.
Anybody help please?
Obvious I know but its not connected via USB in disk drive mode to the PC while you are trying to install is it. Sometimes its the simplest things

Thanks for you're input but no it isn't.
I am not very clever with android so far but, am i correct in assuming no partitions are neccessary for apps to sd using this method.
All that i could think of was that there was no room somehow on the part of the sd card were the apps are installed.
Hope i am making sense as i am not really sure what i am doing but usually learn quickly!
Hmm I have read that some roms haven't been to clever on unmounting the card after a reboot. Did this start happening following a reboot of the phone?
Space wise I think it should say insufficient space if its a space issue.
Maybe try mounting the card through the phone on the PC and then ejecting it properly from the PC. You could also try searching for info about SD cards not being unmounted on android.
Sorry cant be of more help.

Thanks again for your input.
Yes, this did start after i loaded an apk to my sd card via my pc then tried to install it. This wouldn't work and also i was not able to install from the market.
I have tried your above procedure but it did not make any difference so will now try to investigate what you suggested further.
Thanks again.

do you use an adapter to connect it to your pc?

I has been dealing with this issue ...now with two SanDisk Micro sd cards XC I, I did tried to format in almost all the know ways...tried Linux, Windows, command line, Different adapters, Different computers, tried with the Storage feature from the Android OS,
Now I have two beatiful 64G micro sd cards....READ ONLY. Also if you browse the content in the file explorer from the computer the Delete option is not listed in the explorer.

Same issue here: did you update ROM to 4.3 version? I read that it could contain a setting within the platform.xml file that you find into system/etc/permission folder. See this
I tried it but with no success.
I hope you're luckier
Btw i sent it back to Amazon asking for refund (and they agreed). Bye

I warn you trying this setting. I tried this >>> Editing .XML file. I started getting severe force closes especially Google Frame Work Services. Even reverting did not help. Had to use my Nandroid Backup to go back.
4.3 is sucking so far for 64 GB External SD Card write support. Titanium Backup & Helium both apps can not do automatic scheduled Backups on External SD Card since 99% of the time they do not get Write Access. Only way to do an external SD Card backup is manually after rebooting the phone, even that is hit n miss.

I agree with you. 4.3 is still far from 64Gb SD Card support, and I know that editing this file can be dangerous, but I read that someone was able to restore his card and due to its cost was worth a try. During my tentative, this update didn't have effect (but at least I didn't get more troubles).
Same issue.
64GB SanDisk card from my Note 3 (search brought me here) became read only after 5 months.
I've ended up sending it under warranty back to SanDisk.
I'm glad I didn't loose anything as I've backed it up but still don't like the idea of returning something with a lot of my data and photos I can't delete.
may have found solution

I was having the very same problem. I finally went into the computer management, and was about to throw phone across room....when I tried to format one last time. This time I unchecked the quick format. It is taking longer, but seems to be working...I am keeping fingers crossed.
Full Format has finished and card is saved! Hope this helps anyone in the future.

[Q] External SD Card Read-Only Problem

I tried researching this but wasn't successful finding same exact problem or solution. I'm on 4.4.2 Baseband N900TUVUCNB4 rooted with stock rom and ext sd fix. Everything was working fine until recently. My external SD card has inexplicably become read-only, both on the phone and on my desktop. I first noticed this last week when the phone camera began having problems writing to external SD card, and now I can't sync music to card. I've tried formatting on the phone and desktop, both quick and full but no dice. On the phone, I am able to delete individual files or folders but they reappear. On the PC, I can view but get write protect message when trying to format. Anyone else come across this or have suggestions?

Happened with me once with a different phone/OS. Weird thing is that it was only for a particular SD card. I put a different card and it worked.
It turned out to be a problem with the card (dunno how thats possible though).
What's the brand of your SD card?
I have the exact same problem with my SGNote 2 and SanDisk 64gb micro SD card. First I lost some pics I have taken that day. I searched through with a file rescue tool but they were nowhere to be found. Deleted files reappear, and the ones I copied from internal SD dissappear.

It's a SanDisk 64gb class 10.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one. Maybe we can share the solution when we find one. I'm using internal memory in the meantime for new media files, but frustrated that I am not able to use the rest of the memory available on my card.
SanDisk works fine for me, maybe your sd card is a faulty one, let's wait for a while here and maybe someone could answer your question and hopefully solve your problem

Thanks, Lorettaa. It seems like that's the only option right now, since I can't find any other info about it on XDA. I know Kit Kat has that design "flaw" where apps can't write to an SD card, but I can't even write to it, modify it or reformat it on a PC. I have full read access to every file, just can't do anything else

I have the exact same problem, i tried many options , used some softwares in windows to format , wipe, fix, modify. nothing works.
One possible reason for this problem is file system errors , which can be rectified using the 'error checking' option in windows and 'fixing the file system errors'
But that doesnt solve my problem, even after formatting using advanced softwares, the sd card is the same - no files deleted, no files added...
The fat as well as ext4 parition is not formattable now in anyway.so the possible conclusion is 'sd card is going to fail'.. Take a backup before you loose the read capability.
Recuva is a good, free tool (from the people that make CCleaner) to deleted recover photos.

And one possible reason for a false error condition is a corrupt system. This is normally an unlikely possibility but it is very likely on devices that have had partition images written to (i.e. a flashed ROM). If you have done all you can to the SD card and if the errors are not only on one SD card then wipe everything and load a backup. If you still get errors then wipe everything and revert to stock to see if they still occur.

[Q] Moving files from internal to external storage

Hi there,
As we all know there is an issue with moving files from internal to external storage due to implements from kitkat.
I was just wondering if there is a was a solution to this without rooting?
I am unrooted and was hoping there was a fix for it.
Thanks in advance.

I have been looking into this, the past 3 days and from my research I could say the answer is... no.
Everything I found on the net requires root access.
On my previous phone, a Note 3, I faced the same issue and when I formated the ext sd from within the phone, the problem mysteriously went away and I had -full- access to the ext sd.
Tried it on the M8 but no luck.
Why dont you also give it a try (after backing up your ext sd ofcourse) and tell me if you had any result.
My M8 is international version by the way. No carriers.

With the Update to 4.4.3 HTC included a file explorer to give a solution for this kitkat security feature. I already flashed the OTA to 4.4.3 aka firmware 2.22.401.4 and in fact moving files from the internal storage to sd card works with the file explorer delivered by HTC.
Hope this answer helps!?

[Q] I really need help - SD card issues, T210 tab

Hi, i bought a galaxy tab 3 T210 a week ago, and i'm done, i'm tired of this, i put inside a new 32gb micro sd card and since i updated to android 4.4.2 there is no way to write in the card, it just became useless, there is no way to use it inside the tablet, that doesn't matter to me, the part what i don't get is i can't copy files from my pc to the memory using usb cable, i've tried everything, already rooted, used all of sd fix apps, installed the ''KITKAT sd card full access'' module but nothing, i just can format the sd and use it once, after restarting the tablet the sd card is only readable, i don't know what else can i do, seriously i'm freaking out and getting to the point that i will just throw the the tablet through the window and buy a new one, this is just useless and worthless
can someone help me? after days of searching i'm just like in the beginning

that patch is only a partial step, you also need to edit your boot.img's init.rc entry for media_rw to set perms to 755
or utilize an init.d script to perform the same function, or to create a bind mount to link your external card to a directory
in /sdcard and access it that way.

The SD-Card works fine, everytime i format the micro sd it's ok and i can do anything i want in any device, write, delete, new folders, just when i plug into the tablet and restart it, the micro sd ends working as it should and now works as read only.

for those with the same problem.
I'm actually using ntfs micro-sd and the tablet stopped damaging it, i mounted it with ''SELinux mode changer'' and ''Paragon ntfs$hfs'' to recognize it, it's better than nothing, the only way to write in the micro sd is with my notebook and a micro sd adaptor, it's not the faster way but at least i don't neet to format everytime i want to transfer files from my pc
