Hello,
I have been trying to root my galaxy s3 sgh t999v by the root66 method. I have done this method before and then returned to stock, and now choosing to go back to a custom rom. However, this time odin has been failing and not allowing me to root my phone, I am using the right files as well as the stock cable that came with the s3. I have twrp installed by going through odin and installing that. But now it is stuck on either a boot loop or if I try installing the root66 or stock rom it will take me to the stuck in "please connect to kies " recovery mode screen..
Not sure what to do, any help is appreciated thank you
What does it say in odins message box after flashing?

Heres the exact message
You can't downgrade, that's why you're getting that message. So either flash the same firmware version you had last, or a newer one
Yeah, that's 4.0.4 firmware. Try a more recent build. You can get it from my firmware thread too btw. Should give you a faster download.

Okay will try the same firmware, thanks for the quick replies
I have a bit of a problem, I was on 4.4.2 but I don't see any root66 methods for 4.4.2, will I have to find another method?
Oh ok. Didn't realize you were on the latest, sorry. Flash the official firmware and then root with Towelroot. I have a thread for this in the General section.

Well I was on the 4/10 nightly for CM 10.1, and I wanted to switch back to a stock TW ROM, so I downloaded and flashed PlainJane. Upon reboot my phone demanded that I reset my data because encryption had failed, and I never had my device encrypted, but the only thing I could do was press reset. So I did, and the phone booted into TWRP and flashed a quick message and rebooted to the same screen. I thought oh well no biggie I can restore my backup...NOPE. Looks like my SD card decided to corrupt. Well hey theres Odin right? WRONG AGAIN. I tried the method at
http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=74 and Odin tells me

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I got TWRP up and running and I'm flashing the stock reset now .
Hi,
Just brought my note II three days ago, and looking to update on 4.3. Phone was rooted, Philz installed, stock rom installed (this on : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2605464).
After boot I didn't have wifi, so I follow the instructions to install the bootloader, and after that impossible to boot and impossible to flash again.
I don't know if it's because the bootloader is locked or the NAND is corrupted.
I tried to flash with original stock to fix, but same result, always the same result.

There are two things You can try.... Flashing using hemdall recovery or else try flashing the firmware along with the modem file. It worked for me. Do try this after re-installing the Samsung USB driver.

I will look for thx.
Do you have a link for the firmware + modem you installed please.
The modem is integrate the TAR I downloaded I guess (got it from sammobile).
Since my S2, it's first time I have a problem, usually I found the answer on the forum or internent, but not this time.

Yes you find the modem you were using and flash it with the rom in Odin. Next time if Wi-Fi doesn't turn on don't flash the bootloader instead Flash Dr ketan's Wi-Fi patch zip file in recovery. It worked for me.

That didn't work u.u
I tried to flash Stock ROM + MODEM, MODEM alone, always the same problem. (I used odin3.07)
I will try with the other soft, but I have to look for the tar.gz or change my tar.md5 to tar.gz (...but not with windows, i'm not confident in it for that -_-)
I'm on 4.4.4 AOKP and I accidentally formatted something in recovery and got stuck in bootloop. Downloaded stock TW for S3 but everytime ODIN keeps giving me an error.

I'm in a similar situation but in my case I have cwm but can't switch recovery or even upgrade it, and flashing roms doesn't stick.

Are you able to boot in recovery? (home + vol up + power) - You could just reflash from there.
Do you know what you formatted in recovery?
I can get to recovery and download mode but I'm on stock recovery and can't flash anything. I must have formatted /system or /data

Have you tried flashing a custom recovery through Odin?
Also, if you're on 4.4.4, chances are that your bootloaders are on 4.3+. You'll need the MJB (4.3) or NE4 (4.4.2) stock to flash through Odin.
Downgrading bootloaders will result in a brick, therefore it's a good thing it's not going through!
I flashed TWRP and got a pass but every time I get into recovery mode I just get a black screen.
Where can I get NE4?
Thanks

I think so but you only can be sure if you updated your bootloaders to 4.3 (or up to the new NE4 4.4.2).
All right thanks I'll have to try it in a couple hours

The error at aboot.mbn tells me you have the 4.3 bootloader on your phone. By trying to flash a stock Samsung ROM in Odin means Odin will try and downgrade the bootloader to an older version which cannot be done once you are on a stock 4.3 bootloader. Don't keep using Odin to flash a stock Samsung ROM as it may brick your phone.

TLDR: My phone is softbricked, I've tried ODIN flashing Stock, I've tried flashing ROMS I've used before in TWRP... Nothin' workin'
fI was using Task's AOKP with no issues. Yesterday my phone was taking way longer to boot, but eventually made it, but my battery was draining like crazy... I rebooted my phone and it was stuck in boot loop. I tried reflashing the ROM/GAPPS but got an error during the GAPPS install that told me that system/build.prop was missing. I figured I should just try to revert to stock through ODIN and start from scratch. Here's what ODIN gives me when I try to flash the latest Samsung firmware:

The exact error I get when I try to flash GAPPS is:
file_getprop: failed to stat "/system/build.prop": No such file or directory
E:Error executing updater binary in zip '/external_sd/pa_gapps-stock-4.4.4-20140916-signed.zip
Error flashing zip '/external_sd/pa_gapps-stock

It's also worth noting that flashing the ROM (I'm going with the latest CM nightly) takes way too short of a time to complete
Sounds like your recovery may not like the binary used by the package.
For Odin though, do you have kids on your computer? If so uninstall it, reboot and try again.

Thanks, but it didn't help. I'm still getting the same problems.
Try a different version of twrp, or try cwm or philz recoveries too.
For that Odin flash, how big is the firmware you're trying to flash? I just noticed the "single download" line. Also, which version of Odin are you using and where are you putting the firmware? Looks like you might be putting it in the bootloader slot?

Thanks for all the help. I'm not sure what the issue was, but I ended up solving it by using the latest CWM recovery to install a flashable version of stock. I'm not a huge fan of stock, but I'm up for an upgrade in January so I'm going to just have to cool it on the ROM front to ensure I have a working phone.
So I followed the instructions here i found on google by searching "how to how to root s6 edge plus", second link down... and it was a bad idea. Now my phone will boot, and show the lock screen for a second or two, and then just reboot. So I'm stuck in a bootloop. I'm fairly new to the android rooting scene (I've been jailbreaking iPhones sice 2007). What do I do? I tried restoring the default firmware in Odin but it didn't work. HELP!

Your phone is not bricked.
Best bet is to odin flash the official stock firmware and then go into recovery mode.
When in recovery do a factory reset.
Then reboot the phone.
After doing the above the phone will work fine.
Good luck,
Have a nice evening.
