I finally rooted my desire Z a couple of weeks ago after deciding I've had enough of the poor performance and Sense always having to reload after I exited an app.
So I installed AudacityB5 rom and at first it was looking good, good performance, pretty snappy! ALOT better than my old stock htc sense.
But now after having installed alot of the apps I used to have plus a few new ones(aorund 34 total) i'm noticing a drop in performance, not so fast and snappy all the time and the launcher have had to reload a couple of times...
So I have contemplated if I should just downgrade to GB to see if that helps or is there something I can do to improve performance on my current setup? (cause I really like the look and feel of android 4.0)
EDIT: I searched a bit before this and I've been reading about v6 supercharger and multitasking mods and whatnots... can anyone explain to me what this is all about?

Thanks! I actually spent the last half hour reading up on that rom and came to the conclusion that it might be what I was looking for. So I will try that soon!

So, I've been using the mimicry rom for a little while now and it's a definite improvement I'd say.
But I am experiencing an annoying fault, and I'm not sure if its the mimicry rom or a fault with ICS itself. But I can't download or receive mms even though apn settings are ok. Now I can't even send mms... Any help as to what might be wrong?

Yeah read all those threads, nothing helps, does jellybean experience the same problems? I'm gonna try a sense rom and a JB rom and if none of those helps its back to cm7 I guess...

Have used flinnys jellybean build now, and at first it was the same problem there, unable to send mms, but then i just chose "reset to default" or something like that and anfter that it has worked.
Are these settings stored in the sim card or does the phone download them from some place or what? Because the apn settings are basically the same as what is on my providers (OneCall) website except for the apn names which is the same as the network name, "networknorway"

Try Flinny Andromadus CM10.1 (jellybean 4.2.2). I highly recommend it, it transforms the phone. Lots of new features plus it's faster. DL the latest build here: http://andromadus.flinny.org/?q=node/34

Yeah, I've been using build 20 since friday now, it does seem faster than build 19, still some lag from time to time but then again it's an old phone so
I'm in a similar situation to the OP, wondering what settings and modifications I can enable/install to get some extra performance out of my Desire Z. I'm running Flinny's Andromadus CM10.1 Build 19 (updated from a fresh install of 17 w/ full wipe, unsure whether that matters) and while it's certainly useable I often find my phone slowing to a crawl or throwing me "Application Not Responding" notices, sometimes even locking up to the point where the screen is stuck on black and battery removal is required. So far the only settings I've changed are the CPU min/max, currently set to 368 and 1200 respectively using the Interactive governor.
I've read through multiple threads with multiple suggestions and conflicting opinions, so I wanted to check here before doing anything drastic. So far I've seen suggested:
• Increasing VM Heap size (not sure if this would positively or negatively impact performance considering the Z's limited RAM)
• Creating a swap partition on the SD card
• Forcing 2D GPU rendering
• Setting a limit of ~2 for backgrounded apps (tried this, but didn't remember setting on reboot)
• Using a utility to move apps to the SD card
• Enabling Kernel Samepage Messaging
• Changing the I/O Scheduler (not sure what this would really do, or which one would be best for performance)
...so which ones do I do? All? None? Play around and see what works best for me? I really don't care about multitasking all that much, all I'm looking for is a more fluid UI and less application lags/lockups/freezes.
Thanks in advance for the help, by the way! I've become very attached to the hardware of my Desire Z and would like to get as much use out of it as I possibly can.
I know reducing the number of background processes to 2 or 3 makes the phone supper snappy for me. Without that I'm experiencing the same issues as you are. However, this setting causes certain background processes to halt and hence background notifications from apps such as facebook might simply seize to function properly.
I've been struggling with the issue of responsiveness, apps not responding, sluggishness, etc. ever since I started flashing custom ROMs on my G2 (so basically since day 1, somewhere in 2010). Alas, setting the hard, low limit for background processes is the best workaround I managed to find so far. I tried Supercharger (helps just a tiny bit), creating a swap partition (makes the phone even slower), kernel samepage messaging (no difference), changing VM heap size (no difference), and other possible solutions and hints I found here and there.
Cheers

Actually, regarding the downgrade, I did it and I am very impressed with the result, a fresh install of CM 7.2: Looks great, is really lag-free and responsive. I don't feel I have lost anything significant by not having the latest Android. Maybe this is also going to change over time, but for now it looks like something to be recommended.

I have considered it a lot recently!! Performance has been very sluggish, but I just upgraded from b20 to build 21 of flinnys 4.2, and wow, I'm seeing around 80-115mb of free ram, we'll see how it holds up over the next few days :fingers-crossed:
If it gets laggy again I'll probably downgrade too...
My lollipop experience is this: battery life seems OK but less than I was getting with the elementalx kernel, the sound stutters especially when the screen is locked. Its pretty random but the buffer is underrunning at times. Which leads me to what's bugging me the most. With KitKat and the same apps installed I was getting roughly 800mb-1gb free of memory. With lollipop it starts out OK at boot but quickly starts eating up ram like candy. I've had Pandora force close in the background which is probably why I'm getting sound stutters because something is using memory and force closing services in the background. I'm using apex launcher and that constantly has to reload to. Before it very rarely reloaded. Also various widgets are having their services killed and I have to go and manually restart them. I've gone from 1gb free typically to like 3-400 mb free. Does L really use that much more ram? Also what about the damned "focus" on battery life they claimed? Its definitely worse here. Looks like this update was half baked if you ask me. I'm at least not getting horrible fps in games like some are claiming. And yeah the YouTube bug is really random and annoying. Anyone else have low memory issues??

Same issue. But found the soultion
Facing the same issue. But what i came across is that maximum people who updated to lollipop via OTA are facing these.
Others who have side loaded it or flashed the new lollipop image are all fine. There are bugs in lollipop but atleast they are not facing the terrible issues like us. That battery life is insane , i cant use it as my daily driver with such pathetic battery life. But people who have updated it other than OTA are infact getting better battery than KitKat what Google claimed it to be.
Also the memory issue. Yes this is the main problem what we all OTA updaters are facing. This is called memory leak. I founded it over here. Few developers have explained it in detail - You should have a look.
They have suggested for a clean install of lollipop by complete flash or a factory reset. I have not done it yet. Too lazy to get the backup and all.
But have to try it as we are left with no other option. Check out this link for memory leak - tinyurl.com/pmjlol2
If you decide to install it yourself, use one of the current builds instead of the factory image. Google has pushed a few revisions out.
Hi to all of you. I recently did buy a LG G3 with KitKat 4.4.2. Phone is awesome, battery lasts a lot for this screen over a day and a half (medium usage), without lagginess, maybe after restart it takes about 1 second to find everything but generally i am very happy with my purchcase. I have some questions though. Recently i got a OTA update about sth vcalled 20e. Its an update ~555mb and after some search i found out that this is the Lollipop official firmware. After plugging my phone into the LG PC Suite, i found out that even a newer version is available the 20f firmware ~over 1gb. Here starts my questions. Is it worth to go from kitkat to jellybean? Or is it better to stick with kitkat until they fix all the bugs i found out on forums. (So far i saw battery doesnt last so long, wireless charging has problems, lte doesnt work on most devices, others said about lagginess, most apps do not work with the new ART system). So what are your thoughts about this? Also i want to remove some google apps like google drive, and i want to remove this McAfee. Is there any possible way to do that easily without ruining my phone?

Stay on 4.4.2. Most of your research is correct - 5.0 is laggy, drains battery faster, there is "while on wireless charger, screen turns itself on constanly after charge reached 100%" bug, etc.
No, on 5.0 you can delete mcafee only via code from their support. And there is no way to delete Gapps wout root, which can only be obtained by flashing prerooted rom.
About apps - 99.9% of apps do work with ART. However, some - like Webkit-based apps - do crash sometimes.
About lte - only affects people who bought phones that were intended for different region. Region can be changed, btw, so it's not a real problem - it's just a ton of n00bs whining about "bug" they brought on themselves.

So you propose to stick with KitKat 4.4.2 and wait a couple of months until Lollipop gets better?, because i also heard the new art system is faster and more reliable. And generally the Lollipop is meant to be faster than kitkat. If you all advise me so, i will keep this thread open so that i can reply back or even ask more when the time comes

Well, i do advise to stick to 4.4.2 until LG fixes 5.0. However, there are thousands of members on xda. You may want to hear other's opinions before deciding anything.
P.S.: ART is faster than dalvik, there is no compilation-in-runtime overhead.
I'd wait and see if it eventually gets to 5.0.2. In earlier versions of LP, there is a memory leak that causes the system to slow down after awhile. 5.0.2 apparently fixes this. However, I have 5.0.2 on my Nexus 7 tablet and after awhile, I still notice performance issues that require a reboot, so I don't know if they really have the memory leak fixed or not. That's a pretty nasty bug that needs to be fixed before I install it on this phone.
Currently, KK runs great. And, if you want the LP look, you can do a few things:
Install Nova launcher and switch to LP icons
Install Xposed (which won't work on LP) and there is an Xposed module to give you the LP nav bar icons
KK on this phone runs great for me. No issues and I have no reason to go to LP at this time. Until they get the memory leak fixed, no dice for me. I love having a phone that doesn't require a reboot.
Agreed with most of the above. I actually upgraded mine to Lollipop. The experience was horrific. I went back to Kitkat and absolutely have no issues with the phone. It's a dream compared to Lollipop.
I also rooted and use the Tweaksbox to add lollipop styling. I won't be moving to lollipop again any time soon.

My advice is go for it. In my experience with the lollipop update all those little hick ups that appear occasionally (especially in animations and while pulling down notification bar) are gone. Lollipop is fluid and smooth, and rock stable. So far i haven't faced any FCs, glitches etc.. Everything is working fine (well, at least on my phone) and better than what it used to be on kitkat. Battery life is as good, if not even slightly better on lollipop.
I came from a nexus 5, and have been a nexus user for the last 3 generations, so i have high standards when it comes to lag and performance.
P.s. i have the 32gb/3gb RAM and i'm on stock firmware.
As an answer from LG Hellas, i got this: That the phone is working whole better and faster than kitkat (as lollipop), and that all errors are fixed. Also the lollipop update can use the whole processing power of the phone and as a result toghether with the art system, the phone is working better and faster with less battery drain than before. Also downgrading to their lg shops costs :/ . That was their answer to me.
I have a question for you guys. When i play a song sometimes particular songs show wrong album arts. And the correct are blurry. What size should i make them in order to show as good quality?
EDIT
Anything from 1000x1000 up to whatever you like you have some decent and good quality on any song. Because i found a problem and i think many of you out there have this problem as well. If some album arts display wrong, change that track's album to something.
The long awaited Lollipop update for Samsung Note 4 is here. For some of us. Maybe it could have waited a bit longer; especially the Developer Edition group who suffers some minor setbacks at the moment... But developers are hard at work trying to snuff out a bug dealing with the brightness control, affected by the reflash of the aboot.mbn (the file we use to put the Note 4 in Developer mode - a.k.a. unlocked), as well as fighting the new Lollipop architecture and compatibility of some applications, including but not limited to xposed framework / modules, and some other not-ready-for-Lollipop-prime-time applications (requiring root, and some not...)
But, while there are a few approaches to getting LP on those devices and keeping the developer option - I wish to report at least my take on Lollipop. I like it. I like it very much. My initial "road test" seems to be quite positive...
I will list the no-so-good items I found so far, which are just a few;
1. As stated above, yes I suffer the lack of brightness control too, where the device stays @ 100% brightness all the time. the other part of that is, if you try and adjust the lighting profile like dynamic, cinema, and or photo etc, it also does not work - I think from the same issue.
2. I also want to report that even with the battery cover off, during all the flashing, my unit got quite hot and reported overheating... but, since the flashing completed, the unit get's a tad warmer (that's my perception) now and then, but in either case, the battery life seems unaffected by it - which is good....
3. Lastly the app installations go a bit slower than KK in my opinion, sometimes a lot slower. But, once installed, and running, all is ok...
So, the "road test" - this is based on a developer version, with the OTA of LP, which hit our devices, just like non-developers - same day.
The noticeable benefits:
1. The phone boots quicker. definitely an improvement over KK
2. Major change in Hardware GPS performance and accuracy. The acquisition is similar to KK, but the accuracy is far better than KK even JB, for sure - Using GPS Test Plus, I get consistent 10ft accurace, whereas before, in KK / JB, it'd get to 10ft every so often, yet seemed to bounce between 13ft and 16ft most of the time... I'm very happy bout this.
3. Bluetooth sync / paring - It was like I had a whole new phone, faster sync, it actually found my speakerphone without me having to make the unit visible, nice...
4. Using TWRP, backups to the internal sdcard0 were 94 seconds to completion, and that was with TWRP, SuperSU, and Root Explorer installed. The best time, after I de-bloated the phone, removing a bucketload of Samsung apps, Some Google, Some Verizon, Virtually all Location Service Software (I'll explain briefly later) and a great handful of applications - brought the TWRP backup time to just 72 seconds - just amazing!!!!
5. DE bloating went smooth, no app stoppages upon reboot, pretty dang clean... Aside from SuperSU and Root Explorer, I was down to about 18 visible apps - "The Naked Lollipop!!"
6. I think I am seeing an improvement on fast charge, if anything, it's not getting worse, which is great...
7. I like the whole UI / UX of Lollipop better than the other OS's, more ergonomic, more notifying, flatter look n feel - but, maybe it's me, cause it's new...
8. Native Call Recording works great (have to be rooted) - this is an app flashable if rooted, not associated w / xposed. General phone use seems to be cool - still getting used to the end button in the middle of the screen...
I have not tried a full audio / video / media test yet, on fidelity etc... that will be a bit later on...
What is everyone's experience with LP, rooted / non-rooted etc.?
The talk in the other Lollipop Threads is that battery life is a lot worse. Do you think that might be a Retail Edition problem that doesn't affect DE's? Maybe caused by the OTA flash? When I tried it I found an unacceptable problem that I may have missed the fix for. Possibly it'll be OK the next time I try. The real problem was I was unable to restore my KK backup in TWRP 2.8.5.0. I ended up having to start fresh. Another real problem is the inability to turn down the screen brightness on all of the white backgrounds gives me a headache. I'm probably going to wait for the fix for that.
Starting from scratch isn't a real problem because I usually think of improvements for my new installation. I am concerned about not being able to restore though. I'm going to replace my last back-up but I was wondering if TWRP 2.8.6.0.might be better. Are there any thoughts on that matter?

Follow their instruction on how to check and download the correct folder which is Oreo 8.0 latest update which is 3.1.3 rev15.
Well, that's something :good:
I wonder how the throttling behavior or consistent performance is over time with that driver and if it changes anything
So we use 540? Also, noticed it says Oreo but has support for treble...hmm...now I'm curious if it will work with Pie.
Edit: Scratch that, their is a Pie treble section !!
Flashed this on H930DS, working great so far
Nice ty. Totally forgot build.prop tweaks existed. Added those from that thread and a whole bunch of others. Smooooothhhh

Dear zac maybe u can try to implement into your kernel.
Because for now only stock kernel be able to boot. I can't boot using your kernel.
I read that with msm adreno boost it improve everything.
Mayben u can trynto take a look.
And also u can use any kernel for your future development.
Here the link

I read it make a lot easier
Edit : able to boot using lunar kernel
It does work... I use this, project sky (don't know if it can be found on xda) and ATK op5 1.1 and it works wonders!!! Super fast and smooth.

That happened on the first day itself and after that day no more random reboots. But i didnt see any improvement while playing PUBG, though there is significant increase in the Antutu benchmark score.
I think the improvement part while gaming is more of a placebo effect.

Can you explain what these things mean if you share them with us? Not everyone knows. Thx.
How well does video recording work? Face unlock? How does it affect battery life?
Which zip did you flash? Treble, non-treble? vendor-vendor? Help people out.
I'm not a fan of kernel tweaks. I used to believe in them, but after doing a lot of research, LG developers have really optimized the hell out of the OS and one optimization depends on the other. With Oreo update and the tweaks that used to work well for me in the past just make things slow down or glitch now so I'm skeptical. I will continue reading through that thread to see if there are actual benefits in the real world.
Update: Flashed it. The 540 version non-treble
-In TWRP there is no feedback if it has been flashed. It just says finished. There is no way to double check.
-Wiped Cache and Dalvik
-Camera and video recording 60fps works
-Gaming works, but I get strange microstutter, no difference in fps
-UI works same microstutter
I think it's placebo.

which rom are you using now? TQ
US998 Oreo. Already super smooth.
Update: After more testing and real gaming benchmarks here is my current conclusion:
-This is safe to flash on LG V30. I see no bugs
-Microstutter goes away after another reboot
-Performance for most things is the same BUT there are some games where the performance gains are significant (10-20 fps)
LG will most likely have the updated GPU drivers in the Pie update anyway so either download this or wait until you get Pie.
Newest version is ridic smooth.

Benchmarks show an increase in performance but I have also run into random hiccup freezes. But they are rare. rev23 is by far the most stable. rev22 is unstable!
Update: Yeah, forget it. None of the revisions are stable from my testing. Scrolling and messing around with the camera causes the device to force reboot. I went back to the original drivers and no issues. I also don't notice any performance improvements over the original drivers.
