So... I seem to be having the efs corruption issue with my co-worker's phone. I've been searching all over and have found how others have solved the problem, but it seems that our nv_data.bin is not located in our efs directory.
Does anyone have any idea where these files are? I need to check the last modified dates of their backup files to see if I can restore them >.<
Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Bump.. If anyone knows where these files are this could help us from running into the corrupt efs problem that many people have had. Usually backing up your efs prevents your phone from becoming unable to function as a phone.
I do remember reading something about our unlock code not being present in our nv_data.bin.. And when I check my efs folder in both my, as well as my co-worker's phone there is no nv_data.bin so maybe it has been relocated??
Anyone with knowledge on this subject.. your input would be greatly appreciated! I'm also gonna read over the unlock threads to see if there is any relevant info there.
I am having this problem now, I know you posted this over a month ago, but please tell me you know the location of the backup files or any other solution for this?'
Thank you,
[Q] T989 - Baseband and IMEI Unknown
I have searched and read many threads already. I understand the i9100 uses a file called nv_data.bin and requires its .bak file for a fix.
But, I dont think the t989 is the same because these files dont seem to exist, or at least not in the locations the threads for i9100 state. I am wondering if anyone has had this problem and/or how they fixed it. I know it was caused because of trying to unlock, but I'm looking for a solution.
Thanks!
just buy one of those $20 online unlock or go to your local phone kiosk to have it unlocked
any one with a machine to unlock Samsung phones can get this phone unlocked easily
there's no software unlock yet, as you have found on your searches
I have T-Mobile and don't really care for the unlock, it was a mistake. At this point, I just want to fix the unknown IMEI and unknown Baseband issue. Because of this problem my phone cannot get a signal... Will performing a machine unlock fix this problem?
Note: When I type in *#06# the response is not my IMEI number. It says "null"

You can try to find someone locally with a SPT Box2. This unit can flash, unlock & repair IMEI on SGH-T989(d). I was gonna pick one up, but they are like $250 yikes !!

What does the (d) stand for?
And, how can I make sure this never happens again in the future? I know there are backup options out there (CWM, Nandroid), but are there any that make a complete clone of the phone's image? In case I mess up the efs or IMEI files again I can restore and be ok.
Thanks!
T989D = Canadian release of T989
they are identical, the just use the D for Canadian

Would a Nandroid backup fix this in the future?
is hard to say, we have no idea where is the real IMEI information is being stored in the new models, but is no longer in the old EFS folder

I wonder if the new Galaxy Nexus has its IMEI files stored similarly. If so, we can join forces with that forum group.
If Android is not mounting your firmware properly in the system this will cause no baseband and no imei detected. i would try and flash the stock rom to make sure.

Did it twice, the stock rom, modem, and kernel.
The radio (modem firmware) might have got corrupted if somebody tried to flash international GS2 ROM or modem.
Try to flash only the Radio (KL1 is the latest for T-Mobile) via ODIN (use PDA slot).

Would the KL1 work any different than the older one? I tried ODINing the original one, and it didn't work and increased the count so I didn't try the KL1.
I just got my replacement phone yesterday for this same problem. Flashed the stock kernal, and also the modem just to be safe and nothing would fix it. From what I know its just a hardware issue, not software. I was chatting with samsung and t-mobile people about this trying all kinds of fixes to nothing left but hardware defect.
Hello,
i have the note 2 lte from my friend. He tried to root but i don't know what he did. He says that he flashed a "bootloader" but it was for the s3. I think i took the auto-root but flashed it in the "bootloader" and not "pda" in Odin.
The phone didn't boot.
I flashed a complete stock rom. Now it boots but IMEI is unknown and no basisband information. I made a first EFS backup here. I tried to flash a modem but it didn't help.
After several tries i get the "hidden menu" with EFS Professional. Now the NVTool works. I can read the IMEI over it. In the phone is the right IMEI so i don't need an injection.
Restore the EFS with my backup above don't help. I tried to make a factory default with Kies but it didn't help.
What is wrong? What can I do? Maybe the partition table is corrupted and so it has no baseband firmware? Why doesn't it show his IMEI when the NVTool (EFS Professional) can read it?
Thanks for your help and sorry about my bad english.

No, because my friend flashed "something" in the bootloader and bricked the phone. He gave me the phone.
I flashed a stock firmware over Odin, the phone boots and at this time it shows no baseband version and no imei in the settings menu.
I made an EFS backup but it was (maybe) already corrupted. I flashed older stock roms, modems only and tried the factory reset in Kies, nothing helped.
The NVTools in EFS Professional 2.0.35 shows me a correct imei number!

No one helped me and i think no one wont help you either i dont have M9 now if i had i'll post a efs backup immediatelly
There is no efs partition on HTC phones. It only exists on Samsung phones.
You probably flashed a GSM RUU on a CDMA device or vice versa. Return to your original firmware and hope that you didn't damage the phone unrecoverably since the partition layout isn't the same on those two variants.
Sent from my HTC One M9 using XDA Labs
Long story short, I screwed up and I deleted everything from my EFI folder. No backup (captain hindsight) Doing a stock flash with Odin seemed to kinda restore the EFS, but I have generic IMEI and no network support. I have my IMEI (its on the back of the phone). I tried to write it with z3x, but it gives an error. I think its because my EFS is not "correct". If someone could provide me their EFS folder. NOT the IMEI folder or anything that you consider as sensitive (beggars cant be choosers) I would be grateful.
I am struggling 3 days now trying to get my phone back, every forum post and youtube video about restoring IMEI is a scam and/or full of viruses.
Any help would be appreciated, every guide that seemed legit is outdated and doesnt work on s9 with android Q.
Thanks in advance.

Did you ever manage to get this sorted, i have exactly same problem?
If your imei is screwed up try flashing the proper base band. Imei isn't stored in efs. And the imei is based on a cert file. Cannot just be written to the device
Hi Guys !
Greetings to y'all!!!
I'm honored to be a part of this prestigious community at last and looking forward to give back, someday soon. My huge respect for all the contributing members, I have been using this forum to get help since 2016 and without even posting anything I've always managed to get helpful information to resolve every problem encountered till now ((rooting & flashing)).
:'D
So here goes my first thread:
A friend of mine recently tried flashing stock ROM on his SM-G988B/DS since his update firmware option wasn't working for some reason. Even though it was a success, in doing so he flashed wrong version of firmware and caused network failure, flight mode if tapped got stuck (greyed) (wrong modem was flashed). There was no backup and original firmware number wasn't mentioned so I tried flashing different versions of firmware (U1,U2,U3,U4 & U5) and finally got it working on flashing CP(modem file) of G988BXXU5BTJ3.
However, for some reason I still was unable to make a call, so I searched for it and found out that by dialing *#0011# my IMEI status is NG which is bad , even though my IMEI number is still intact as found on the back of the phone. I researched a bit further and found out that this has something to do with the EFS file and whilst going through comments in another forum I found someone else had the same issue and got resolved by deleting nv_data.bin file and its backup and IMEI folder in EFS file after rooting and reflashing stock ROM. I tried the same but found that nv_data.bin was missing in EFS folder, so I backed up EFS file and deleted just the IMEI folder in it and reflashed stock ROM, have tried flashing different CP versions aswell still no success .
I've seen some videos of Chimera IMEI rewriting and certificate patching and Z3X tool on youtube but in their case IMEI is missing and I don't want to go for those solutions for the instance. I'm wanting to learn from all this exercise and want to know whether what is what and how to resolve this manually (maybe by writing some hex code or script etc) if possible.
Summarized:
Phone: SM-G988B/DS
ROM: Stock (G988BXXU5BTJ3) (rooted)
Status: SIM Card Registration failure ( IMEI status NG)
IMEI : Intact (As on the back of the phone)
EFS file ( nv_data.bin and .bak missing)
Previous Status: SIM Card was working fine before flashing ROM
Your valuable suggestions in this regard shall be highly appreciated.

First, do a TWRP backup, all partitions including efs & modem.
Open the root explorer app, open the efs folder, delete the files named nv_data.bin
, nv_data.bin.md5 & the folder called imei. Then open twrp, wipe all partitions. Flash the latest firmware with Odin.
