Hi everyone, even if I'm here since few years, I never had to ask for anything, always found what I needed by the magical search button. Now the time has come to ask xD
I've got an "old" N7100, and I've found many Sammy roms with s5/n3 features, which is nice. I'm actually using the DN3 rom, but I've been wondering if there's any CM based rom with the snote features (such as the snote, air command, scrapbook and all that stuff).
I'm asking for a simple reason, when I first rooted my device, I had android kit kat 4.4.2, once I removed most of the junk (music/readers/video/game hub, Samsung apps, flipboard and all those preinstalled useless applications) my system was very smooth, running with less than 30 system applications. Now I've tried many roms, some didn't even work, but all the others (like the DN3) have like an hundred system apps and run with almost the double amount of ram. That translated to an heavy battery drain, even for a 3100mah battery.
On the other side, I've tried a couple CM based roms, needless to say the size of the rom itself (about 250mb vs 1.2gb) was smaller and the run at less than 650mb of ram, but with the huge loss of all snote features and the sad futility of our spen.
Now, I know we have about 2gb of ram and all, but I'm the kind of guy who wants both features and battery life, not to mention a smooth system.
How come no one has ever tried to merge a CM with all our beloved snote apps? Is that even possible?
If it's not, why can't anyone make a simple rom without 7850 features when we need like a dozen (at best), just improving our stock Note 2 with, let's say, Note 3 snote features and maybe other optimization (super battery save mode and other useful things)?
And also, why are we stuck at 4.4.2 when I managed to find 4.4.4 for an entry level Ace 2 (GT-I8160)? Is there any hardware limit I'm unaware of?
Would you suggest me any lightweight rom close enough to my description?
Thanks to anyone who took the time to listen, many thanks to the few who will answer (I hope someone will) and my apologies for the long post and the bad English (I'm Italian, that's my best english).

I've finally got to the stage where I am completely hacked off at having to keep uninstalling apps due to running out of space in the internal memory.
I'm hoping to do it all in one hit, and what I want is recommendation for a decent, stable ROM - I don't want to have to chop and change, reflashing ROM after ROM.
I used to do this with my old Dream, and it was fun when I had the time, but things have changed for me now and I need a reliable phone.
What I need: Apps2SD, stability
Nice to have but not essential: Better battery life (underclocked kernel?)
Dream stuff, but not at the expense of first two: Speed increase, Froyo goodies
I don't care about SenseUI one bit - in fact I've pretty much removed/replaced nearly every trace of it on my phone, by using Launcher Pro and non-Sense apps/widgets.
However, I'd like to know if it's possible to keep the text selection function contained within the standard browser on my phone? It also works the same in DolphinHD, which leads me to believe it's integrated into the Sense framework? I don't know if I can get that with Froyo though.
If I do go for a Froyo ROM, I'd like to know what won't work. I gather video recording is broken - don't care about that. Is there anything else that don't work?
Any advice or recommendations, pretty please!
If you go to the roms dev section and look at all the roms chefs have cooked you will figure out which ones you prefer and which ones you may like. The chef will either tell you what doesnt work and later if you read the comments members will provide additional feedback.
There is no 'best' rom each one has + and -
So I know this is probably a really stupid question, but I'll ask anyway.
For about 18 months I ran Decks ROM and really liked how lean the whole thing was. I got stellar battery life, and had next to no bloat and it was nice and fast. I recently put a sense ROM on my phone (Infamous 2.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1836346 ). I always knew the AOSP ROMs had pretty lack luster camera support, but I swear the pictures and video are night and day different. So I've been using this Sense based ROM since I found myself taking pictures more now that the camera doesn't take shaky, grainy and overly warm pictures. However, there's a few things that I really don't like about Sense based ROMs and was wondering if there are any work arounds for them.
The bloat... oh the bloat! I use zero of the built in HTC apps/widgets, but as far as I can tell, they can't be removed. I looked around and removed the apks from the system/app directory but after reboot they're still there and the apks just reappear. Maybe it's not that simple of a process, I found something similar in a script, but it's only for Sense 4+ and the ROM I'm using is 3.5. If I could be lead in the right direction of removing some of this junk that would be great! Mostly looking to ditch services that are eating into RAM that I'll never use. Namily Weather (looks like a big battery drain), anything facebook/twitter/social network related and Voicemail (I use google voice).
Question 2. I really miss the functionality of the long press back killing the foreground app. I have a feeling it's kernel related, which means there probably isn't a way to just add it some how to a kernel that doesn't support it. Along the same lines, I have no CPU control what so ever. A little OC never hurt, and governor options would be nice. I never got into messing with kernels too much back when I was flashing ROMs daily until I settled on Decks and stuck with it for ~18 months. I'm way out of the loop of things now, and development has slowed on this phone quite a bit since I messed around with it, so I'm kinda lost with this one. Are their Sense based kernels that allow any of these features?
I ended up writing more than I wanted to, but I like to be thorough when asking questions. If I could get some information on these little quirks it'd go a long way to making me embrace this Sense based ROM a lot more.
Thanks guys!

Ok as far as the system apps(bloat)you can remove it,use an explorer app, delete the apps you dont want, reboot into recovery and wipe cache and delvik and reboot, they should now be gone, the reason they werent before,is because of the dalvik and cache left behind, theres also a system app remover on playstore,or you can use 7-zip before insalling the rom and remove the apps from the zip file.
As far as the kernel goes, theres 2 sense kernels in the development section, not sure they have what your looking for.
Well I was halfway there. Didn't know I had to clear the cache afterwards. Makes sense though.
Will take a look at the dev section and see if I can glean some info on those alternative sense kernels. Just gotta backup before I wreck things too much.
Thanks for the info!
Greetings,
I've been around for some time, lurking mostly. And installing a ROM with ICS or JB on my Galaxy W was a wonderful way to innovate. It feels like I'm using a brand new phone, which is awesome.
I have tried Cyanogen mod and Paranoid Android and even the PAC roms. But the issue I run while using them is that my ram seems to be full most of the time, and it's filled with system apps more than my own apps. Which limits the phone seriously. I am almost unable to use Swiftkey for typing online or even messages, since it lags too much the phone.
I plan on keeping a couple of apps like a battery saver, Aviate launcher and occasionally a traffic monitor app like 3g Watchdog.I've been thinking about going back to Gingerbread versions, although new ones seem more enticing with features/apps like Google now.
I'm breaking my question in two parts:
1 - Can a more advanced android version like JB (or maybe KK) help make the system faster and the ram management more efficient? Or should I stick with a rom similar to stock?
2 - What roms do you recommend? Which Kernel? Or should I just face the fact my phone won't be able to comply with my current needs and I should ask Santa for an iPhone?
thanks

Thank you, I'll give it a try on the stable version.
For future reference, and to save the trouble for other people who may come here and need to search the thread:

Thank you very much.
PS: in the mean time I'm open to more suggestions, just in case.
U should also give a try to monster build rev16. Im using it as daily build and its really light weight.

The rom crashes the settings applet everytime I try to change language to Portuguese.
Can't add widgets with aviate launcher (settings crashes)
otherwise seems alright.
Hello,
The one thing that I really hate about this tablet is the insane amount of bloatware preinstalled. I own the 16GB LTE version, and a whopping 4.42GB is taken up by "system files."
4 games later (RR3, NFS Most Wanted, Asphalt 8, Injustice) and a few basic apps and I have less than 1Gb left.
So I rooted, installed Root App Delete, and started deleting junk. I haven't touched any of the browns or reds yet, although deleting some of them seem to be harmless (like the pre-installed office suite app, for instance).
To my disappointment, the 4.42GB didn't budge at all, so I gotta delete more stuff, but what??? What can I safey delete that won't damage my tablet? Ideally, I'm looking for a list of items that can be safely deleted, from which I can choose based on my usage, as not to ruin the stock ROM.
Considering this is an Exynos device (yes, T805M, Exynos with LTE, lucky me ) and there'll not be a decent custom ROM available any time soon,I'm stuck with stock ROM. I'll have to make do with Nova Launcher and as few bloatware as possible.
This is a very interesting question because I also want to debloat my Tab S (SM-805).
I found this, maybe it helps you:

Thanks, dude!! That's EXACTLY what I was looking for. I'll try tonight.
Please share your experience when you did, would be interesting :good:

After I debloated some stuff and used greenify, battery life was increased for me. So now it doesnt drain as much as before.
Hello all,
I may get teased a little bit for this one - but I am a bit of a traditionalist. Even as an IT guy, I tend to shy away from custom, enhanced or otherwise modified ISOs of windows. Not because I am afraid of them... I just like the "stock" look. I would like to stick to the same thing on my phone.
I am still running the stock version of my ATT firmware, 4.x.x. I like it just fine, and it suits my needs for the most part - (Other than the ATT bloatware that crashes constantly for several minutes upon reboot)
However, my device is beginning to slow down and I find myself using Chrome more and more because the older stock browser does not seem to want to render some sites very well. I expect it is only a matter of time before I start running into "sorry, you cannot run this app" type of issues.
So on to my questions....
1. Will upgrading to 6.x or 7.x improve the performance on my device?
2. If so, I see there are a ton of apps to choose from. Is there one specifically that is "less modified" or at least enables some sort of "gotta-have-it" functionality?
3. Can you elaborate on why you chose to move from the stock rom? I understand there are alot of "testers" on this forum who like to play with things. However, my phone is used heavily for work purposes. Simplicity and Stability remain key drivers for me.
Changing to a custom ROM may improve some areas of performance while decreasing in others such as battery life, camera, and stability.
By apps, I assume you mean roms. I can't make any recommendations as I have not had a note 2 for a few years but I have found that custom ROMs based off a stock rom are pretty stable. I always like to start with a very bare-bones ROM and add functionality via apps as needed.
I have moved to custom ROMs in the past when apps won't run on the phone's stock rom.
I've run my note 2 on DN3 for a number of years. You can still find a link to the thread in this forum and you will need to root your n2.
Not hard. 1 advantage is you can remove the bloat and it's still a rom that runs well on our device since it was built for our device in it's prime.
If you have any questions send a PM. Happy to help.
