Liquid smooth rom not recognizing sd - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After seeing some good reviews of the liquid smooth rom, I decided to try it out. I flashed 3.2 nightly 10-1-14 with gapps. Everything worked fine, there were no issues with the flashing.
Once it rebooted, i downloaded es file Explorer and noticed that it wasn't picking up my external SD card. I went to settings > storage and sure enough, it shows my internal storage but nothing mounted for external SD card. I clicked mount, it gives me the mounting SD card notice in the status bar, then nothing.
Has anyone else had this issue? And if so, what can I do to fix it?
I'm running the att model HTC one m8, obviously rooted, s-off with sunshine, twrp recovery.
I tried the nightly from 10-02 as well, still not working.

I have the same problem. Currently running CM 11 with no issues. FYI, I had same problem with Gummy Rom. Searched but cannot find a solution. Card has fat32 format.

I researched liquid smooth and saw that they only support fat32 now I think, so I took my old micro SD card, formatted it for fat32, and it works on liquid smooth.
I did change roms, however, and now am using dirty unicorns. It has turned out to be my favorite so far. I love the customization options

[Q] CyanogenMod 7 is ruining my SD cards

Now I'm not moaning about CyanogenMod here, I'm just trying to understand how I can fix the issue.
Basically, I had CyanogenMod 7 RC2 on my Desire Z. That was it.
Eventually I saw through ROM Manager that the full release of 7 was out so I downloaded, took a backup, wiped everything and did a fresh install of the new ROM.
It installed fine, but none of my apps that needed root access were getting it.
So I booted into recovery, restored my backup, root was back.
I then installed 7.0 over my RC2. That worked fine, but again root was gone.
At this point, my phone started damaging SD cards.
It suddenly started saying that my 8GB card that came with the phone was damaged. I tried to fix it on the phone, but it just said 'Checking card' and then giving up.
Putting it in an old MP3 player, it is not detected at all.
Putting it in a card reader, the card is unreadable and when I try to format it Windows says the card is 'read only' (this is not due to the reader).
I put a functional 2gb card I had lying around into my Desire Z and it broke it in the exact same way.
My question to you guys is - what could be causing this and how do I fix it because I have a 16gb card coming and I'm obviously cautious of putting it in the phone.
Also, how would I go about flashing the new Cyanogenmod 7.02 ROM if my phone keeps breaking SD cards I put into it?
This error can be because when ever you install a CyanogenMod ROM over another, It leaves files your new ROM think is useful such as data that the new ROM doesn't support. It is damaging your SD Card because it keeps attempting to fix the error but is making it worst by trying to remove system files. Your best bet is to try another ROM and see if it does the same thing and report it to CyanogenMod Developer Team if it only does this to CyanogenMod ROMs otherwise it would be just a virus on your SD Card feeding off of personal data. If it is only CyanogenMod ROMs, we will adress this issue ASAP. Hope I helped
Thank you VS4, you are indeed helpful
I've since heard some people have managed to fix their SD cards by formatting them in ClockworkMod but I can't even mount it first in order to do this! Is my card truly dead?
Also, do you think the reason that CM7.0 had no root (even when it was a clean install) was due to me not 'fixing permissions'?
Thanks
Just a note to say that I've managed to fix it!
Despite being unable to 'mount sdcard' in clockworkmod, I found I was able to activate USB Storage and through this I was able to format the card (Windows 7 was previously saying that the same card was 'read only' in a multitude of card readers).
I hope this helps any poor chap with the same problem.
I had this exact same problem, munched 2 of my 8GB cards, and had a 16 on the way. I somehow fixed it before the 16 came and I've never had the issue since, glad to see an explanation of it.
Thanks, nofixio!
I had the same problem on my Samsung Fascinate with CM7. It ate my 16GB SD card to the point where the phone wouldn't recognize it, CWM wouldn't mount it, and it wouldn't show up on my computer in multiple SD readers.
I wasn't quite clear what you were suggesting when you said you were able to "activate USB Storage." I thought maybe you meant within CWM. That didn't work for me, but I was able to boot the phone up with the problem SD card in it and turn on USB storage as normal. Suddenly my computer could not only see the SD card, it could see all the files that were on it before it died! I backed everything up, formatted the card in Windows, and everything's good now. Thanks for the tip!

I'm not sure why you would ask this in such an old thread but... Try just plugging it in to your computer maybe? What ROM are you on?

im running cm7 ... it wont read from computer. i tried several micro sd card readers. it just tells me it cant format. its just like what was mentioned before.
Weird, I've never had any problems with Cyanogen 7 roms. I've flashed one over another and had no issues at all, Mayb because I use SuperWipe before hand? Or maybe its a certain sd card issue???
Running Desire Z and Andromadus Beta 11 I had similar problem after I had applied remote wipe from Exchange (wanted to see if it works). Remote wipe worked: it destroyed contents of SD card and erased phone back to factory settings. After wipe mounting SD card failed and Andromadus seemed to be unable to format the card.
Solution: Booted phone to Clockwork recovery and applied advanced -> Partition SD Card.
Posted this on this thread since it came first when searching solution.

Go into Recovery (Clockwork), go to mounts and storage, then scroll down and it should say mount USB storage.

Not recognizing SD Card

I just flashed Business Gingersense 3.5 last night. Everything looks great on this ROM, but my phone doesn't think my SD card is present. I can't access pictures, audio, files, etc on the SD card. Is there something I need to do to get this ROM to see my SD card? I've reflashed a few times, removed and reinserted SD card, etc.
Thanks,
Alan
Is your SD card in FAT32 format? You could try copying everything from your SD card to your PC and reformat it. Then copy everything back on to it.
BTW, I'm not sure if it matters, but I'm coming from cyanogenmod 7.0 to Business GingerSense 3.5. The phone recognizes the card just fine when I reflash back to cyanogenmod 7.0...
I can give that a shot. Just curious - does cyanogenmod require a different format than gingersense? Perplexed as to why it is there w/ cyanogenmod.
I just checked the properties on my SD card and it IS in fact in FAT32 format. Any other suggestions?
Fad this prob before cm7 was ext4 ur new rom is most likely ext3 reformat or partition in recovery
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
As long as it is in FAT32 it should work. I know that files on SD cards over time become corrupt from files being deleted and over written. Cyanogenmod is dependent on the SD card so reformatting it could possibly solve your issue.
Make sure you are on 1.5 of the ROM. You should not be having this problem unless you installed a mod that broke it or it was a bad install.
I'm thinking the latter... I flashed the ROM a few times with the same result. I also flashed McTwist Sense 2.1/3.0 and had the same results. Flashed back to cyanogenmod 7.0 and everything is fine again. Have any ideas of what to look for? Mind you, I'm a newb so you might have to spell things out for me.
Thanks again - really hoping to try out your ROM.
Alan

flashed team sonics freeGS3 R5.. external card unmounts after reading as 123456789abc

so yesterday i flashed team sonics freeGS3 R5.. with twrp that i installed from the market. rom works great but now my external sandisk 64 card reads as 123456789abcdefg..ect and then it says it was removed unexpectedly. i think i read that twrp wasnt able to mount exsd in recovery. unless you install via terminal or the new version wasnt able to mount. i took the easy way out and installed twrp with the goomanger app.. and couldnt mount ex sd so i backed up and installed from my internal sd. anywho, has anyone else had problems with their sdcard not being able to mount? i read that other people where having this same issue with it reading as 123456789abcdefhi.. as of R3 but theirs worked so they werent worried about it. someone mention it might be due the sd boost? i never formatted the card or anything yet, it worked right out of the box in the stock rom.. im not sure if it wont mount because of the mounting issue in twrp or if the cards needs reformatted to something else.. anyone else experience this yet? tempted to reflash to see it it helps, i wiped eveything before the install, but i didnt reformat the system, which i normally do. any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.. thanks
The 12345... is just a theme display problem. Try installing another theme, it should correctly say Mounting SD card...
Your 64 SDCard not mounting is because you're probably running a custom kernel that doesn't support exFat. Try formatting your SDcard as FAT32 or NTFS.

[Q] extSD card problem after flashing Pheonix Rom v16.7

Hi, I am new to XDA so I have to report a bug (if it is) here for Phoenix rom v16.
I flashed this rom according to original thread carefully. Everything works well so far but only the extSD card.
My phone is Galaxy note2 N7100
I flashed Phoenix rom from 4.1.3 (I wiped mannually several times using Philz 15)
I have a 64gb class 10 sdcard(fat32) inserted which worked fine under old systems
When I first get into the new Phoenix rom, I noticed in setting-storage, I can see a external card mounted, but the total space is not right (around 10gb). And I used ES file explorer, trying to check the content there, but I cannot see nor write anything. I went back to setting-storage and unmount SD card, and then mount again. The space became right. And I can access to the card using ES file explorer also. It looked good!
However, after I flash the update and reboot the system, the problem comes back. I can see the card under setting-storage but with wrong size, and I cannot read or write again. After I physically pull out the card and then put it back in, and mount it again, it works.
I tried to reboot the system again, and problem came back after rebooting.
I don't know why the system cannot recognize the external sd card correctly after reboot by itself, only after you remount the card, you can use it normally. This really bothers me and I don't know how to solve this problem.
I th

Are you sure you didn't tick option/mod to use external sdcard as internal in aroma installer? This switches the cards and sometimes it states sdcard size incorrectly (depends what mod you're using). With some kernels this mod might not work and weird stuff can happen. If you didn't touch this option then I don't know what could it be.

OK, this could be the reason, I didn't notice this option during installation. I noticed in the orginal thread of the 4.3 phoenix rom that the internal card would be external and external would be internal. I didn't know that I have to choose this. I will look into it again.
By the way, if this happened, that means I will have a note2 with 64gb internal space? That is awesome!

[Q] External SD Reverting Changes on Reboot

Hi everyone. I've been dealing with this for a few days now and I can't seem to figure out what the problem is. I'm currently running Wicked S5 Xperience with PhilZ recovery and CWM bootloader. My permissions file is written appropriately to allow apps to write to the external SD, and I manually went into ES File Explorer and changed the permissions appropriately. I'll take a picture, it saves to my external. Ill create a folder on external and it sticks. When I reboot, the folder is gone and the pictures disappear. I've also deleted pictures from the external, and upon reboot they come back. I've unmounted the external when flashing the ROM. I've formatted my internal SD. I've flashed the permissions file, tried Play Store apps, and manually editing the permissions.xml. I can't, for the life of me, figure out why this is happening. It's like my phone is forgetting what happened on the external when I reboot...
Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Has this happened with other ROMs as well? Like Wicked X or Tribute? Have you flashed any AOSP ROMs lately? Have you tried another external SD card to see if it may be a bad card?
Well I was on Pac which was AOSP and the permission changes didn't make ANY affect at all. ES was saying I didn't have any write permissions on the external no matter what I did. Stock rooted does the same thing as S5 Xperience, even though I'm using the "allowed" Samsung file explorer.
The card worked in the past, it's loaded with pictures and documents. It's a 64 GB SanDisk high capacity... Or whatever it's called... Its been forever since I looked at the card.
I was originally trying to put Wicked X and I got stuck in a boot loop while trying to install the Xposed framework, and the zip deleted itself from my internal storage. I thought I had downloaded S5 Xperience so I downloaded that. Everything installed fine. I'll download X and see of that changes anything, but each time I formatted and reflashed S5 Xperience I've been having the same issue. The users in the S5 Xperience thread gave me some suggestions, but they haven't worked so far.
If you're sure the SD Card itself is good, all I can recomend is odin back to 100% stock then see if the problem persists.

I'm going to reformat the card first before going back to complete stock. I'm sure it has something to do with the way I rooted or something.
It's the card... Its bad. It's not old enough, though, which upsets me...
