[Q] Question about RUU - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I have a VZW Htc One M8, and I have been playing with it when have gotten the chance recently. I have installed/flashed an RUU before to correct an issue I ran into (trying to take an OTA) and everything went smoothly. As I said I took the OTA, but kept the RUU from the previous time I used it (first mistake). I am s off so I am hoping that is going to save me here.... This brings me to my problem.
I was trying to flash Viper Rom, but at the end of the setup I kept getting a popup saying setup has stopped, and I was unable to see a homescreen, but the phone was working. I decided to revert back to stock using the old RUU (be gentle) and it loaded and I hit yes to begin. About 10 second in it stopped and wanted me to reboot... I was in the middle of doing something else when it happened so I rebooted back to the bootloader and my OS line was in red. I then went back to recovery and restored my very recently created backup of my stock rom, which worked. I then went back to the boot loader to look at what was in red more closely and it is now blank. It says OS but then nothing after.
I have since gotten the new RUU that I should have used, but it seem to hang on the last part of the loading (put in on my external sd card) and my phone works... but the boot take forever and the VZW logo doesn't come up anymore. It almost seem like the phone boots fine but the HTC ONE logo stays until the phone screen turns off and when I hit the power button to turn the screen back on the phone is booted. My question is... should I 1) try the old RUU again and then take the ota since I am s off I have seen that technically it should work. 2) let the phone sit at the loading of the newer RUU and see what happens (I haven't tried seeing if the old RUU will load yet) or 3) count my blessings and deal with a non completely broken phone?
I realize I made a few errors while doing this, but I am hoping that s off will allow me to correct the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Issue should be resolved
Sorry to everyone that read this... I didn't make it all the way through the thread where I found the new RUU, and the thread tells how to resolve the problem with not loading all the way. I am going to try the fix after work.
Edit 1: problem resolved... I am an idiot

Fixed: Verizon Vogue Stuck at vzw splash screen

This is the first time I've messed with this phone I've flashed many different models in the passed but this is the only one that is giving me issues and the worst part is that its not mine so any hell i will greatly appreciate it.
Here is what i did read what ever i can to get more accustomed to this phone. and searched everywhere to help me figure out what i can do.
So i flashed the unlocker. Coke 2.31
after i did that i flashed nfsfan's 1.5 rom using usb cable.
no i cant get into the operating system at all it hangs at the vzw splash screen.
Is there a way to get this phone back to normal? i cannot connect thru activesync and when i tried to reflash using sd card it shows the loading screen for a split secon then goes back to the bootloader.
Please help its my bros phone i need it up and running asap.
Thank you
This post helped quite a bit

Just thought that I would post what happened to my phone and the steps that eventually recovered it in case it helps somebody else:
My phone was stuck with "No Radio" on the boot loader screen and the SPL as "SPL-2.31.CoKe", but none of the 3.x ROMs would flash properly that I tried. So here are the steps that eventually recovered it (mostly...):
1.) I installed the ROM above from the tri-color screen (power+camera+reset). I still had no radio, but it was letting me past this and booting up to WM. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=357762
2.) I then re-flashed the 2.31.CoKe boot loader (not sure if this step is necessary but listing what worked...)
3.) I tried to install RUU_Vogue_VZW_WWE_3.14.605.1_Radio_3.37.78_Ship.exe but it failed at 10% restarting to RUUNBH screen and the installer gave me Error [290]: Invalid Command
4.) I then tried to install the latest sprint ROM straight from the HTC site:_Touch by HTC (Sprint)_RUU_PPST_Vogue_SPRINT_WWE_3.03.651.4_2_Radio_3.42.30_AM_NV_2.04_Ship this looked like it was going to fail at the same part the Verizon rom did as it rebooted at 10% to RUUNBH screen, but the Sprint installer did something (I heard the computer lose and gain connection multiple times) and eventually it went right back and continued on from 11% and finished successfully.
5.) Rebooted and I had a radio now! Rather then risking trying to install the Verizon ROM again I went straight to the custom ROM I had originally started out with: NFSFAN 6.5 V6 which is working fine for me, except the GPS which is what started out my adventure of the last 3 days...
Just a note: for all flashes except the final one I simply waited till it was at the "Tap the screen..." stage till flashing. I never let any ROM but the final one run it's customization.
Click to collapse
The above method works on a Vogue that is stuck on the bootloader screen with no radio.
Or if you get a rom to install and it stops at a windows screen that says no radio.
the only difference i tried was i didn't use the HTC Official Sprint rom, as i could not find it.
I used this rom.
RUU_Vogue_4350_ALLTEL_WWE_3.10.671.1_RS3.42.30_NV2.02_PRL30031_SHIP.exe
I let all customizations run on the last rom update.

[Q] Froyo update, STUCK, HELP! :( (OTA)

I have an un-branded orange HTC Desire which is factory unlocked! I live in India, I got the OTA (froyo) a few days back, When installing phone restarts and then starts looping on its own with white htc screen and a percentage bar, this keeps happening and restarts on its own! No signal can be found! Im puzzled and its very frustrating that i couldnt get it worked after 2 attempts, I flashed back to the generic 2.1 HTC rom, but I would really like froyo on my phone!
I dint use a goldcard when downloading and installing the OTA, do i need to keep the goldcard in when installing? and also if someone can post or link me to the manual installation, I'd be grateful!
And has anyone come across and workaround for the above issue? I found that a lot of people have this issue!
Any answers on this would be majorly appreciated, thanks!

Everything you need to know
I still dont follow! I mean, isnt that a guide to rooting your phone? Im confused as to what exactly to do! :S
(apologies for the newbness)
Basically you need to flash it and start again, you should be able to get a ROM working to start with then after that a good idea is to try rooting it and flashing to a Cooked Froyo ROM from here
Where did your phone originate from, since in india it is not out yet. Because if you got it from an asian country you have to insert a goldcard when updating. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741836
Thanks for all the help! finally managed to get it working!
fter the OTA Failed and I got the 1-100% count with errors and no radio. I did the following to fix:
*use at your own risk*
I think I already had the WWE_1.21.405.2 with 4.06 radio
so did not bother with the RUU a second time, just downloaded the manual 2.2 rom
renamed as update.zip copied onto gold card
put gold card in phone
rebooted holding back
selected bootloader then recovery
pressued up and power to get menu
selected Load update.zip
at end of update (when prompted) rebooted from menu.
waited while green update screen showed.
phone rebooted itself
came back up with no signal upon unlock it did the 1-100% count took a while but no errors this time.
eventually it displayed a sucsessful update message and all is hunky dory.
Big thanks - had the same issue myself.
Suspected I needed the goldcard in but didn't know if writing the update.zip file to SD card would overwrite the goldcard bit and leave the SD card corrupted, though.
You live and learn, I suppose.

[Q] help newbie error

i have a wildfire s (rooted with s off)
i was getting memory problems whenever i was installing software. it was saying memory full, so i tried using methods to use ext2 partirion on sd card to use as system memory.
i could not get this to work.
so i thought i would look into putting a custom om on the phone to see if i could do it that way.
i installed clockworkmod recovery on the phone and selected backup, to back up my existing rom.
this was taking hours so i pulled battery and done a factory reset on the phone.
this worked. i then found a rom to put on there and just tried installing rom through cwm in android.
this failed and crashed my phone.
i am now stuck on the htc logo screen while loading. i have tried using the volume and power button to get into boot loader and tried going into recovery and the phone just hangs on me.
is there a way i can install the stock rom back on the device to get it working again just by putting in on the memory card. or is there any other method someone can suggest to me to help me get my phone back working.
i am not very good when it comes to these sorts of things, so if i could be pointed to and idiots proof method of doing this, it would be much appreciated.
sorry to trouble you all if this has been asked so many times.
thanks in advance

hi i tried putting a goldcard in there and following the prompts. i have a xtc clip. i think the problem occurred, halfway through flashing a new rom to the device, not quite sure.
i reload the phone but it just sticks at the htc boot screen.
is there a way i can put the stock rom for the phone on the sd card and reinstall the rom from there.
i tried going through recovery and nothing happens.
any help in this would be greatly appreciated.
thanks by the way

[Q] (Nearly?) Bricked M8 - Help

Hello there good folks of XDA,
I'm at work right now and my phone is at home but here is the story of what went down last night.
I tried to root my phone, after installing TWRP and superuser I ran a root-check app and it said that I was not rooted, so not thinking I tried the 'fix permissions' function of TWRP and then everything went haywire.
It's an international version M8 that I've had rooted before but reverted back to stock to get the lollipop OTA updateBy haywire I mean the phone booted up but no widgets displayed and most of the apps still appeared in the app drawer but nothing would open.
Instead of seeking help at this point I went to town on trying various things :silly:
The last of which was try and flash a boot image to it, but I think I must've used the wrong one as after doing that it's now stuck in a boot into TWRP loop.
From when I had previously rooted the phone I had a boot image (I think) 2.22.401, it matched version on the recovery file I used when reverting to stock in the past so I thought it would be fine
I've still got a terminal open at home with all the results of the fastboot getvar all command but from memory my CID was HTC_044
Can someone help outline the process and possibly even the files I need to reflash my phone into a working order. (it doesn't need to be 'stock' but that would be best)
I use a mac by default but I do have a windows machine at the ready I can use so feel free to base any tips on doing it from either platform
Post the getvar all output, minus IMEI and serial number, and we'll go from there
Thanks for coming to my assistance but in the end (after a few more slight failures) I managed solve the problems myself.
I believe that my first problem was using a not up-to-date version of TWRP (2.7) with Lollipop; the first symptom was my attempt at rooting my phone, the process appeared to go well but just wasn't working properly.
My second problem was 'fixing permissions'; after doing that my phone went totally haywire and while it would boot into android nothing would work properly
After going to a previously used stock recovery and getting nowhere I went back to the same TWRP I started this with and still had fixed nothing.
at this point I did a factory reset from the recovery mode and while that got me booting back into android I was being swamped with error messages and couldn't get past setup wizard crashing.
At this point I flashed the wrong boot image and had a nearly impossible time getting to the system boot menu instead of TWRP being what it always went to. Eventually I must've got the timing right with the buttons or something because I got back into the system boot menu and could access fastboot.
Once in fastboot I downloaded a full nandroid backup and restored it, my phone was working again... or so I thought, it was still suffering from permissions problems
at this point I re-rooted it with the latest TWRP, got SuperSU working properly, did the 'restorecon' command with a terminal app and now the app crashes I was getting have stopped and I can see and write to the phone memory.
After trying to test everything I could think of on my phone today I think it's finally fixed.
I tried to do a partial/selective app+data restore from a nandroid backup I took of my own phone just after the 'fix permissions' event but it didn't work properly so in the end I manually re-setup my phone. I do run an sms backup app so overall I only lost time...

M8 is unable to restart, no USB debug on, S-On, please help

I Have the following issue:
Some days ago my phone started to act weirdly, was getting error messages of all my apps that stopped working. After some searching on the internet I thought the best would be to do a factory reset using the boot menu.
I tried recovery first but this only gave the red triangle with a red exclamation mark. Booted back up but error messages kept spamming.
So then I tried to do a factory reset in the same menu, this started out well but when the loading was done the phone was stuck on the htc-logo screen. I had it there for some hours, but without any results.
I tried this process agqin, but no other result.
I tried some things listed on forums here and there but since I have not ever put the phone in developer mode I cannot get the PC to recognize my phone.
I read somewhere to flash with my SD-card but I did not found a full tutorial on that (considering I am a noob on all this).
The phone just turned 1y old and I really need one for work and other stuff so I am also wondering if there even is a way, if there is not you can give me the hard truth and I will order a new one. But would be stupid to not have tried all the options and found out later it could be fixed easily.
Anyway thanks in advance look forward to your replies
Pieter
have you unlocked your bootloader with HTCDEV and are you able to get in to fastboot?
if so you could flash TWRP and restore with a stock backup.
if not and you aren't able to get the device to be dectected by a computer, you may have to contact HTC for a repair.
I had the exact same problem as you and I tried a million different things but then this man saved my life and came to my rescue!
