Flash recovery in fastboot usb mode with command
flash recovery recovery.img
where recovery.img is name of your recovery file.
You have everything explained here

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Maybe the 'fastboot' was implied by your mention of fastboot, but just wanted the command to be correct and clearly understood.

Just find your desired recovery (TWRP, Philz) in the Development forum section.

You are absolutely right, forgot to add fastboot at the beginning, that is the right command :good:

Please Help! Accidentally fastbooted CF-Auto-Root-Bundle (for xperia z1) !

Hello People,
yesterday I spent the whole day trying to figure out how to root my phone. In the end I found a tutorial on chip.de but overread it was for the non compact version.
So I used fastboot to flash these files Z_DooMLoRD_CF-Auto-Root-ported_FW-350.img” and “Z_DooMLoRD_insecure_FW-350.img
Well, as you might guess it didn't work.
Now it doesn' boot anymore.
Does anyone have a suggestion what I could do now. Phone is still recognized in fastboot or sonyflashtool and can enter download mode.
Thanks for your time

Assuming you have some ROM zip or backup on your phone somewhere that you can flash, this will get you into recovery:
Download boot IMG here - https://mega.nz/#!QsEUTY6K!MCc5GZMGgFu66C8ECtdrtQ64jOQ_1MDPWglyxAP5Gu4
Download recovery IMG here - https://mega.nz/#!E4UQwIoZ!UFpur2wY3tIAU7SdjuEg5fUA6N4BAVwX_TeK_CFpTyo
Copy both to /adb directory on computer, then:
fastboot flash boot boot.img, then:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img.
Then start phone, and press volume up or down when you see the led.

Thank you very much ! This got me into recovery! Now the problem is that I have no backup and no rom.zip on my phone. Is there a way to put a fitting file on the phone?
Edit: Ok now I found out I can put a rom.zip on my sd card and then mount sd card in twrp and install rom fron there, right? Could somebody point me towards a stock rom preferably with root access?

Second link was a zip with CM boot img and twrp3 img. The boot img probably includes CM recovery, but if you flash the twrp3 img, you should be able to get into twrp 3, which will flash the rom.
Make sure your fastboot command matches the filename.

Alternately you could flash CM11 - https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&sou...T3Zoa6K8nDjMW3OlQ&sig2=-5eFhWzJFl7zHnNgDnrUXQ - with the first boot/recovery, then download a different rom, and use Rashr app to flash boot img from that rom.
Or, use Flashtool to flash stock, then root, etc

Which version are you trying?
Are you booting to TWRP from fastboot or installing twrp from fastboot?
Try booting to twrp from fastboot and then installing TWRP with the ZIP
Latest version only give me bootloops
twrp-pixel-installer-marlin-3.0.2-0-RC1.zip works for me though.

I'm having the exact same problem as we speak... had it with skipsoft toolkit and doing it manual through adb..
I'm using "twrp-3.0.2-0-RC1-fastboot-marlin.img"
I'm just going to leave it on that start screen for 30ish mins see if anything happens.
btw I also reverted from Android O to N

fixed my bootloop... thought i messed up really bad.. Gonna leave it for now.. giving me a headache.
Let me know if you find a fix please <3
It is happening when you revert from O back to N. Now I'm sure most of this is overkill but not sure which part actually resolved it. Here's how I fixed it -
in recovery, format userdata via fastboot (i actually did erase data first, then format data)
switch to the other slot and do the same
Flash latest N factory image
reboot to welcome screen
reboot into recovery
switch to other slot and flashed latest N factory image again (overkill, I know)
reboot to welcome screen
reboot to bootloader
set twrp as boot image and it will boot successfully into temporary twrp
install twrp zip
install the image signer zip
restart to welcome screen
restart to recovery
do steps 1 and 2 again
restart
profit
If you need more specific instructions, let me know and I'll type it out and make it more clear. Good luck.

Sprint Root questions and clarification

Hello XDA, I am trying to figure out all the steps to get mainly Twrp, Magisk, Viper and, Substratum working correctly without any hiccups. I have been reading the forums all day and trying to get all the files necessary to get all that working and the files to revert to stock if it doesn't work. I know after the Bootloader is unlocked I won't be able to relock it due to no Moto signed boot images. I just don't want to brick it and be here with other problems later.
So far I have done the following
1. Installed ADB and Fastboot + Drivers
2. Done everything to get the code to unlock bootloader
3. Downloaded the files to flash twrp from (https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-force/development/twrp-3-1-1-0-moto-z2-force-nash-t3687421)
4. Downloaded the latest stock NCX26.122-59-8 to extract the boot img and patch it with Magisk manager from (https://forum.xda-developers.com/z2-force/how-to/to-stock-roms-t3672859)
I think I have everything I need to get it rooted. Here's where I get kinda confused. My phone (XT1789-03 Sprint) is on NCXS26.122-59-8-11 November patch (I think the S is for sprint lol). Would It be okay to flash the Magisk patched boot img from the one I downloaded after I unlock the bootloader? Is Twrp necessary? Is there anything else I need to know about? Thanks in advance.
This forum just died? What the hell noone helps anymore???
Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
TWRP is official now. Download the bootable image from https://twrp.me/motorola/motorolamotoz2force.html and the corresponding zip. Boot to twrp and flash the zip. Flash Magisk and install what you want that needs root. Hint: I'd advise the Viper4Android from Magisk modules in the magisk app.

Do NOT flash the twrp img. "Fastboot boot imagename.img" then flash the twrp zip if you wish to have it as your recovery. You can find both on twrp.me.
This hard.. even with instructions u don't know what to flash where and what it will achieve lol. I just want unlock and root. What's the easiest way to do that on sprint z2 force?
So far I understand u need to install twrp to root with magisk, then use twrp to flash magisk Img, then boot up install magisk apk and u should be rooted. Hope I've got that all right.
But do any of the images on this site also unlock gsm on sprint or TMobile?

Not trying to be a **** here, but what exactly do you mean by imagename.img? .. the twrp.img file? and if I don't want TWRP as recovery, then are you saying that it will remain stock if I don't flash the twrp.zip file?
I recently did this on an Essential phone, and the process was: fastboot flash TWRP.img, reboot to TWRP (recovery), flash stock boot.img, then flash magisk.zip.
The last phone I rooted/rommed before that was a Nexus 6, and **** was different then.

Fastboot boot TWRP.img, then just flash the magisk.zip in TWRP, right?
Thank you!
Also, @jmagi -- you shouldn't have to manually install the magisk apk. Flashing the magisk.zip in TWRP should result in a Magisk app in your "all apps" next time you boot.

Yes, just boot it. If you flash, your phone will boot to recovery. Don't flash the TWRP image!!

Ok got it thank you. So fastboot boot twrp, and from twrp flash magisk.img then run magisk after bootup.
I too havent rooted a phone since droid4 which was just doubleclick a bat file lol. All this twrp stuff is new to me. Hope i got it right. Love this phone. Might get another one soon and the qwerty keyboard mod is expected on amazon within a couple months. Only reason i upgraded.

Problem when I install the TWRP

Hi. Sorry for my bad english..

Pic.
Someone have a solution?
Regards
you can try different things?
format data partition using twrp.
If that didnt work try flash stock recovery and erase everyting.
Or ompletely reflash everything:
i dont know... but you can try to put this zip (http://oxygenos.oneplus.net.s3.amazonaws.com/O2N_OBT_17801_OXYGEN_SIGN_wipe.zip.zip) on your phone then flash stock recovery and then flash this downloaded zip... it will install OOS 4.7.5 from there reinstall to whatever you were on... But this method will erase everything on your phone!
Going cracy :\ What am I doing wrong?

yeah me 2... i also installed drivers then files showed up in windows explorer
And twrp will be replaced on boot/reboot unless you root after flashing twrp with something like magisk...
Can someone please give me a "IDIOT proof" "HOW TO GUIDE" to me ?
Once you're on TWRP, did you flash Magisk just after, before rebooting on system?
If not, you lose twrp at every reboot. You'll be on stock recovery systematically.

Download:
1) MINIMAL ADB & FASTBOOT : https://goo.gl/UbFXdA
2) STOCK OOS FILE : http://oxygenos.oneplus.net.s3.amazonaws.com/O2N_OBT_17801_OXYGEN_SIGN_wipe.zip.zip
this is nougat 4.7.5 if i remember it correctly
3) Stock Recovery : https://goo.gl/2kmbB7
4) Flash stock recovery (fastboot flash recovery [recoveryfilename.img])
5) In recovery erase everyting incl personal data.
6) fastboot boot [twrpfilename.img]
This wil boot twrp once so you can place OOS rom in internal storage
7) reboot to recovery.. and install zip you just placed on phone.
8) reboot... if everything works, then reinstall twrp codeworkx or blu_spark
9) after flashing twrp...boot to twrp and flash magisk... this will root your phone and this way twrp will not be replaced after first boot with stock recovery.
10) let me know if you have questions or if it worked etc :good:
When I try to bootloader "Powerbutton + volumedown" it say "Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and will not boot" ..................... F.U.C.K meee!
try VOLUME UP + POWER
this should send you straight to fastboot
try unlocking your bootloader then is your first prioriy i think
---------- Post added at 07:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:52 PM ----------
if that also doenst work check this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/help/device-corrupt-trusted-boot-t3718158

TWRP won't stick

I've been trying to find a way to get TWRP recovery to stick to our device but couldn't find any solution. When ever I install TWRP fastboot mode, I can use it but if I want to flash something else and try to boot in TWRP again, it boots into stock recovery. Please can someone tell me how to do it?

you need twrp.img in sd card. once you boot into twrp. select at bottom and change .zip to .img so you can select twrp.img then install it and select recovery swipe to flash and your twrp will be there whenever you boot into twrp.
Its happen to me.
Boot to twrp.img official with fastboot ( fastboot boot twrp.img )
Flash your recovery ( many exists , New pitchblack is great )
Then LazyFlasher
you can also use orange fox recovery and thats it. itll be installed next time you boot into recovery.

not the file but the format twrp is reading at default is zip. so if you place a .img file you wont see it when you browse for it.
when you press install in the next screen on bottom right says image click to change to .img so twrp.img will appear.
