I need someone to pull these files for me....I'm doing some expirement on a another s4 varient and I don't have a T-Mobile version so I want someone to do me this quick favour. Thrry are the nv values of the device if you really want to know...
I have no responsibility for a brick , only do this if you know ehsg you are doing...not saying that I will brick your phone. These commands are an unforgivable....they are case sensitive so watchout!
You must have root And Terminal emulator app from the market to do this.
Code:
Su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p11 of=/mnt/sdcard/modemst1.bin
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p12 of=/mnt/sdcard/modemst2.bin
Then go to your external sdcard and upload the files for me, modemst1.bin and modemst2.bin
If you are running the google edition ROM thats perfect but it doesn't really matter, I really need the files
Thanks!
Almost over 100 views and no one seems want to help here over in tmobile s4......when I mentioned the brick , it was never that serious its not like you going to brick your phone by just doing this......all you doing is BACKING UP the NV partion of the device. Cmon guys

Maybe try a different section? Like Android Development (Dev's only)?
I posted on general but it was moved to QA, I have no idea why...
I really need those files I'm just waiting to do my next step with the testing....
They are not even that hard to get from the device if you have root and terminal emulator...and they ain't hard to upload either....both if the files are 3mb each afaik for this s4 varient.

Post it in the Dev section anyway.
I would try it but I have a .img that is a ***** to backup and I don't have an extra hard drive or sdcard to put 7 gigs on.
You are not Backing up the entire nv list....just these two bins....they are the modemst1.bin and modemst2.bin they are approximatly 3MB each 6mb total.
I think you misunderstood me, thanks btw

I understand. But just in case, I would want to make a backup. But the image file is 7 gigs
I Understand what you mean too...
The command in the first post will only backup two of the files...they are not even images, they are bins... You don't have to do the full backup to get these files for me.
They are 6mb total lol idk why you keep saying 7 gigs that's lots and lots

Sorry for the newb question guys. Yes i have used the search but it doesn't seem to be specific to excaliburs and I perfer not to brick my phone.
I'm looking for a way to dump my rom, and use it to flash another persons phone. He saw how I have mine and is eager to clone it. Which I have no issue with, as i'm just beginning my customization. I perfer not to start from the beginning with his, as I have with mine. It has taken alot of time and learning, and I figured there is a simple way to just dump the rom and flash his with all the currect apps I have installed and such. Any point in the right direction will help, and thanks in advance.

Go to the Excalibur Wiki... (or click here)
on the root of your phone should be the bkondisk.exe file already, but if not there is a DL link there i believe. That will get you to DUMP YOUR ROM,
however, i think there is a smarter way.
1)Download the ROM you are using from the XDA Site
2)Using a backup too like Sprite Backup or other similar
2b)Tell it to backup all your files, and your registry...EVERYTHING
3)It should have created an executable file now...
4)Flash your friends phone with the ROM you downloaded
5)Put the EXE Backup on your friends memory card and run it...it should replace everything on the phone as if it were a clone of yours..
*REMEMBER, the ROMS MUST BE THE EXACT SAME, or else you could get serious glitches....*
*If anything goes wrong, don't hesitate to ask or check out the Unbricking Tut*
Hope this helps you out
Ty sir. I will give this a try.
We should be able to completely analyze the EMMC now and get our full 4GB storage back, right? What's stopping us?

i was just thinkin the same thing while i was at work.
My guess is whats stopping you is the dependancy on people who know what they are doing. What is stopping them is their own personal interests. 1.whatever GB is way more than enough storage than most need so i would say....
1. Further exploration for understanding of this device
2. Stable easy to install recovery w/o buggies
3. ROM'S
Root just happened ,those of us that are in need of these very generouse and intelligent people should just be patient and see what goodies they have in store when they get around to it ;-)
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I'm entirely patient to HAVE it, but it would be good to have a least a brief confirmation that the 4GB storage is actually there and will ultimately be accessible.
I wonder this because I'm thinking about the possibility of eventually putting MeeGo in the G2. No reason not to; it's got all the speed and RAM necessary. I think it would come down to a question of internal storage.
Not to bust the OP's chops or anything, its actually 3.7 GB.... and im guessing you can account for atleast 700 MB for ROM and recovery stuff....
So USER accessible should be around 2.9 GB? Correct me If i'm wrong....

negative. on stock rom after data reset, i only started with 1.9Gigs. everytime. thats is a far cry from the 4GB advertixed. plus i dont think recovery images are that large.
can you access the emmc chip thru root explorer after S-off perm#?
i believe someone was saying that this is just a bug in the hardware, reporting the wrong size - unrelated to S-ON.

I'm pretty sure they can do it still, even if they don't physically have the phones to test it. We will have to be their guinea pigs to see if things work or not. So yeah, any Dev from any phone who knows their stuff should be able to help.

If you look within the /cache directory you will find a file called last_log that has the partition information you are looking for. I haven't had any luck mounting the partition, but I think that is normal. Now you can dump the partition to a file and then use some tools that have been developed by people here on xda to get access to the contents.
Regarding the system image... I think we may have everything we need from the LG open source web page. If you go there, you can download both the kernel.source and I think the image source (don't have my laptop to verify).
Let me.know if I can help out with anything...
So, is there a way push this dump back to the phone, aka restore to factory?
Nice, us @ the Thrill 4G Device area are trying to work some of the .apk's and other things from the Nitro HD dump are trying to build a Froyo FIX ROM with this same dump.
Be patient guys, I've not touched the Nitro, but I'm aware that LG Devices take a bit of work to make out a good ROM.
But with this dump and the work of the Thrill and Nitro fixes together we might have a multi-platform ROM.
The main difference, I believe OS mostly the HSPDA & ZTE difference.
Can anyone tell me what this is running? GB or Froyo?

if your adb works you can try extracting it
Any practical examples on how to?
Okay, so I don't think this archive that's been uploaded is going to work, but I could be wrong. I think we need somebody to perform the following set of commands (assuming the user has adb installed and put in PATH) in order to get a proper system.img:
adb shell
su
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p27 of=/sdcard/system.img
I'm in dire straits right now with a phone that's only partially working. I'd really appreciate anyone's help (and system.img!) at this point. I know it's a huge freaking file, but I think it's going to be helpful for more than just me eventually.
If I'm in error and this is not the correct system partition, somebody please correct me, but according to the partition tables posted in the CWM thread, mmcblk0p27 appears to be /system
Edit, I think I also need /firmware which is mmcblk0p1. This file should be much smaller, though.

I did the stupid mistake of flashing to a custom rom without backing up. Nowhere in custom rom instructions says to backup your /efs folder.
Now in "About device" Baseband version is "Unknown" IMEI is "Unknown". I've searched everywhere for a fix and nothing. I tried the following:
Flash stock rom
Format /data and /cache
On keypad, dial *#7284# ....But i dont get the "Qualcomm USB settings" option so i cant try IMEI repair tools
I tried flashing different kernels and different custom roms
Apart from the IMEI problem, the Device cant access the 16GB internal memory. The stock rom flashes with no error, but when i go to
settings > storage: under "Device memory" its full with only 182MB used by some apps. I thought the memory could be bad, but after flashing
Perseus kernel and swapping external sd card for internal memory I can use the 16GB as external memory. I cant find a fix for that either.
INTERNAL MEMORY UPDATE: it seems that internal memory is mounting read only. Still trying to find a fix
Im currently on "T889UVALK8_T889TMBALK8_TMB" rom with Perseus kernel and using "11extsd2internalsd_gs3_fat32" to swap internal to external memory.

Unfortunately sir their just isnt much that can be done for you. If you read about imei loss without a backup its just about incurable. Sorry.
And the remedy for imei restoration without a backup is hit and miss at best as to whether or not it actually will restore your number. Your best bet is to use the search function and try and experiment with different ways of fixing it. Its not like there is much more damage that can be done anyways. You already screwed the pooch and basically have a functional brick.
No one is going to post a step by step guide for you though if thats what youre waiting on. This is a complicated fix and most members wont devote the time to walking you through it
And to the member that said he searched and found no Information. Well thats just not true. Ive read tons of threads and posts about it and know about SEVERAL backup and restore methods.

Thank you for confirming my fear, I was on denial. Im getting a new one on friday. How much do you think I can sell this one for, obviously as a tablet?
Developers need to take more responsibility around here with their threads. A simple "I'm not at fault" is sub par in my opinion. Users popping up with IMEI issues are becoming more a common thing. Didn't somebody make an app to back up your efs partition? Why is there not a link to said app in every ROM and kernel thread? This stuff blows my mind.
As there is a rampant influx of "noobs" watching YouTube videos about rooting their devices (most of which for the first time) with links to ROM threads, their needs to be an influx of responsibility taken by those who cook ROMs and feed them to the general public. The issues with the IMEIs being lost is not a small one. Your device is pretty much done for without a backup. Keep reading, keep trying, but since you had no idea that losing the ability to use your device's radios was even a possibility, not your fault.
Good luck. And sorry. You should have seen a link at the very top of the thread you downloaded your ROM from ... and this whole thing would have been avoided. Never done it. If you have a new one, just make a backup of the new one and don't mess with it. Now you know to make a backup
Curious
I would like to prevent myself from making this mistake in the future. Are you talking about the same type of back up you would do in TWRP or CWM? Like a nandroid? I've never heard about the backup your talking about, but I have been seeing a lot of people talking about losing their IMEI number and it sounds like really bad news.

After what happened to me I haven't messed with other roms. Andromizer can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2080009 to make a backup of your /efs. I have also used Nandroid, which you can just download from the "play store". Nandroid apparently does make a backup of everything including /efs and bootloader. As to how to restore from those backups I would like to never find out if it actually works. I have flashed the perseus kernel with clockworkmod recovery and also rooted which allows me to overclock to 1800MHz and im very happy with it. I dont have the urge to flash any roms that "promise" any speed improvements. I have also got rid of the bloatware with titanium backup pro. And of course i made backup with it too just in case i removed something i did not suppose to. All backups are in my external SD card and on dropbox. Call me paranoid but after what ive gone through i call it being safe.

ok so i was doing a little reading and stuff and saw that doing a nvbackup was kinda important so i did it though adb via the "adb reboot nvbackup" and it did its thing. now is that all i should do? i saw a few tool threads that were listing off a bunch of other crap their tools backed up but none were for sprint and idk if i should be backing up something else or not. any info is appreciated since im getting more lost by the minute haha

That should be sufficient but you can go one step further and back up your efs. There is a flashable zip in the vzw gs3 section that will back that up for you. sorry I dont have the link handy. Another option, the one i used, is to flash synergy rom from the vzw section and itll backup your efs on install. Itll tell you where its backed up to. sdcard/synergy maybe? Then you can copy that to your computer. You can also use qpst to backup your nv items and all the instructions are here.

i do not think the vzw flashable zip works (correctly) for SPH-L710.
i dont even think if you 'adb pull efs' works correctly on sph-l710.
to my understanding the sprint s3 is completely different then all the other S3 variants when it comes to the nv and efs areas.
i did do a 'adb reboot nvbackup' and i dont see any file or directory that has been created either on my extsdcard or intsdcard.
when i did that 'adb pull efs' it just seems like lots of stuff is missing like nv_data.bin.
i think all other S3's have this file but i think the Sprint S3 does not have it
anyhow if someone who knows what they are doing could explain this a bit more it would be great.
im on MD4 rom
just wanted to add one more thing
when using roms LJ7 and before i could enter the 16 digit password in DFS then use QPST EFS Explorer to read all the nv_items with no problem.
I could also make the "Backup" using QPST and i could read the areas that would normally say "access denied"
in the instructions for using qpst backup or any other tools people provide not including 'adb reboot nvbackup' how would those tools backup those areas correctly?
when you goto restore those .qcn backups you made good luck because almost all the important areas are not going to be working correctly if you did the backup and it was encrypted i believe

anyone have info?
sorry for intruding, but doesn't "vzw" stand for Verizon? if so, why are we running it on a sprint phone.
