Now that I'm on this look-and-feel trip...
Not sure why I never did before: I've just turned on phpBB's 'Avatar' feature. This means everyone can now upload a small image to sit below their name beside every post. It doesn't have to be a photo, it can be anything you like. Maximum is 80x80 pixels and 10kB.
I haven't turned on the 'gallery' for people to pick from ready-made images. But if someone has a really nice collection of crazy images that would somehow apply to this community, I might.
I'll upload as soon as I think or something suitable...
Not sure, if it´s a good idea to be able to use Avatars.
They will bring up the amount of traffic of the website, and if you want to read this forum online with the xda, you have to turn off pictures or have to download much more...

The special mobile style I made (which is automatically selected for XDAs (or more precise: when a USER_AGENT string contains '240x320') does not display the avatars.

Hey all, Ive been thinking about what i miss about my pre, and besides the obvious wireless charging (one can dream, right) touchstone, the one other thing i miss the most is the glowing of the trackball device at the bottom of the phone for a notification.
Now i know there are many people who have WIMAX Notifier and will say to use that, but i really dont like it as much as a more behind the scenes and clean look, and W.N. keeps crashing and is really buggy.
My app idea would incorporate the 4 buttons at the bottom using different patterns for different notifications.
Ex:
Text: Glow all 4 slow
Email: Run from right to left back to right and repeat. (8 secs for one rotation)
Missed call: Glow only home
etc.
I searched and was not able to find anyone in the developing stages of an app for this. I would be more than happy to assist with the coding, but i have no programs or anything downloaded so far, and dont really have any idea what im doing, though i do know C, Java, & C++ a bit and can learn coding quickly.
Any idea on if this could be made to work, im pretty sure there has to be a way the light sensor sends a signal to the mocrocontroller to light the keys, but can it be done independently, outside of that code section? Any words of where to start with development of this app?
Thanks for the advice, please keep it relavent and to the point, i would REALLY like to make this a reality. Also please link me to any current development on this if you can find any.\
PS. I have an evo 4g, but i assume this would be a global android app.
PPS. Dont let my 2 post count dissuade you from the ferver i have to make this app a reality. I dont post a ton, but i am very serious about creating/developing this app with some help.

It actually has not been done yet. All that has been done is Flashlight Alerts and WiMax Notifier.

Right, which are not clean at all. I want a more subtle item that is similar to the pre functionality.
Thanks for the clarification, ive been looking forever and couldnt find what i was looking for.
I think that is a great idea and would look cool as hell. Try making a quick flash demo to illustrate your idea. I'm with you and can definately visualize it but, maybe others can't. Don't give up, it's a great idea.

I think it's a FANTASTIC idea having the 4 bottom capacitive buttons blinking/flashing/glowing for notifications. I would definitely pay for this.
The number one thing I miss about my Nexus One (which I sold back in May) is the trackball notifications where it would glow different colors. Getting the 4 bottom buttons to glow/flash would suffice for me. $10 bounty pledged by me!
This would be such an awesome app...
Alright guys it sounds like there is an interest in making this happen. I will start to look into what it will take for the process to begin.
Stage 1: Getting a coding program installed and getting the HTC Sense open source code to start looking into the light sensor callout for hints of making the bottom LED's come on.
I am committed to this one guys! Sounds like there is a definate want for it thus far.
Good luck man...with all the devs have done with this device, I dont see why this wouldnt be possible.
Btw.... shouldnt this thread be in Apps/Themes section?
sent from EVO with XDA app.
This sounds great!
Alright guys, small update, got the software downloaded and the code/sdk for android 2.2. Wasnt motivated enough to put on my nerd hat and get into the code and start searching out the specific lines im looking for. The good news is I have a flow chart laid out for the notification in each scenario.
Gotta figure out how to ensure the program boots on startup and continues working until force closed.
I will be starting with Froyo, and will move it back to 2.1 eventually. My primary focus will be 2.2 on the Evo.
Welp guys i spent 10+ hours this weekend just to figure out that those LED's are only allowed control when the screen is on. This app is not possible without a significantly more experienced developer, who could make the screen control independent of the LED's. Given my little experience this has become too difficult for me to handle. I will sell my idea for free though!
Thanks for trying, would def be awesome if someone could come up with this. My old samsung instinct use to light up the bottom when it had messages, being that it was a samsung as well, I would *think* (i'm not developer) that there are def ppl with the skills to figure this out .... eventually =) thanks for trying....
I found a cool new feature.. I don't know if it was already present in the ICS build but I'm sure its new from JELLYBEAN
Long press the microphone button and you'll get a view of the clipboard!
it was there before, you would get a few choices when you held the mic , handwrite, clipboard, settings
Oh. LOL ! I never noticed maybe they didn't include it on the T999V model then.
I can't see the the clipboard after copying images and text to the clipboard. I see the options when long pressing the microphone but when i click the icon with the paper and the paperclip, nothing happens. I don't see what you see in the screenshot. I am on ICS
I don't know maybe they expanded the feature in jellybean? Can someone else confirm this?
I never knew that thats awesome! too bad I hate the samsung keyboard and stock messaging app lol

I agree with you man.. on Jellybean they reformed the keyboard so much tho. Messaging app is still a bit on the hated side tho. Keyboard is 100 times better.
I was browsing / reading this post and instantly got annoyed with what you are doing. It seems you are trying to confuse readers by putting long signature with a “banner” or an advertisement if you will – I really do not want to check out your blog (even if it might be interesting), I don’t not want to see you advertisements. Sadly “De-Thanks” button isn’t available for you, in fact you should be paying to the XDA community for posting adds here.
Apologies for being harsh but what you are doing is not cool…

It's frankly upsetting man that you think like this. I have no intention of doing that, and it's not like I'm doing this for money or anything. I'm trying to be part of the community. They aren't frankly adds when I'm not running my own business. My signature offers members a free service and I'm improving my skills.. helps us both.
Sorry to hear man.
sweet i never noticed that lol

So what you are saying is no one should have 'ads' in their signature? So those linking to their custom roms, tutorials here on xda, video help links....should not post their 'ads' either? He is linking to his thread for custom work for the S3 and a link to relevant info on the S3. Whats the big deal? If you don't want to visit, just keep scrolling the thread. No on putting a gun to your head making you click his link.
If you cant stand people's signatures with links, go into your Control Panel and turn off signatures. Its that simple.
True say ^ Haha!
Anyways, can someone confirm if this "SAME" feature was there on ICS? With the little menu of clipboard copies underneath when you press it.

It's a feature in kitkat itself. When you turn on immersive mode you will have full screen and you'll have to swipe up for the buttons to reappear.

This is not a place to be spoon fed, you need to read. It is all on here.
Tips
Search for Xposed and then install
Next
Search for GravityboxKK in Xposed and install
Then look for immersive mode
Here's my solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51968838&postcount=110

@grentuu. A bit harsh don't you think??! You could have linked him to exposed quicker than typing out what you did. I understand that folks need to search, but at the same time Senior members should also use their experience to educate our Junior members. Your rude response also does not bode well for teaching newer members how to act on these forums!

OK, I apologise if it came across as a little harsh. But the answers are all here if you look. Let me give you an example.
Last night I came across a problem with the Bootmanager module for Xposed. It's the first time I have used it and it isn't doing what the description says it should.
Now. my first action could have been to simply post in Q&A and hope someone was kind enough to fix it for me. There are probably about half a dozen threads I could have put my question in across XDA and other lesser forums
.Then I could have sat back, watched a bit of TV, poured a stiff one and waited for XDA to prompt me that someone had posted a reply. But that isn't what the spirit of XDA is about. It is about learning and searching the articles people have already posted. If you'll excuse the expression - 'The answers out there!' People need to look first ask questions later. By simply giving the answer to someone, what do you think will happen next time they have an issue? "I know, I'll ask those nice people at XDA"
If you notice I didn't tell him to go away - I did provide some pointers to 'direct' him. Up until that point in the thread, neither Xposed or Gravitybox had been mentioned. As I say 'Pointers'
It probably doesn't help that in the 'other world' I am a High School Teacher. I want people to reach out and learn for themselves, not expect to be, (here's that word again) spoonfed.
FYI I still haven't sorted my issue with bootmanager, but I still have some searching to do before I post a question.
Apologies to OP for off topic
Thanks all for help..
@grentuu i understand what are you trying to tell my...
This is my firs Android phone an allot of information, next time i will do a little more searching
Once again THANKS

Great!
Try installing Xposed Framework http://repo.xposed.info/module/de.robv.android.xposed.installer
Then from within install GravityboxKK - your answer lies here
All of the applications below appear to obtain access and information way beyond the needs of a Flashlight. Some appear specifically designed to collect and expose your personal information to cybercriminals or other nation states. In addition, you are at significant risk if you are doing Mobile Banking on the same device as one of these free Flashlight Apps.
Our strong recommendation is to uninstall your flashlight app immediately.

Ok, so we all know that we need to be extra careful with the apps we use and the permissions they demand, at least, if you are here on XDA, I certainly hope you know this! And for many of you it is probably 2nd nature to steer clear of many apps that require too many irrelevant permissions. However, it was just brought to my attention that yesterday SnoopWall released a Threat Assesment Report regarding the top 10 Flashlight/Torch apps in the Play Store, and every one of them can potentially be used maliciously! So I thought I would share this with everyone, first, so that you are aware of it, and second, so you can make others aware! Maybe if we show those stubbornly ignorant people we all know, they will start trying to be a little more careful, and start paying a little more attention to what they are doing!
One important thing to note, as I dont remember seeing it mentioned specifically in the report, is that during their investigation they found a lot of personal information being sent by these flashlight apps to Russia, China and India! Need I say more???
Personally, I have always stayed away from these flashlight apps for several reasons that are mentioned by the report. For example, why would any app that only functions as a flashlight need to be several megabytes in size??? Huge red flag if you ask me!
Anyway, as many of you know here, I do not have a lot of time right now, so I will just post the links you need to educate yourself below. I will try to post more information later on as time allows, but I just wanted to get this out there for anyone who needs to know about it.

Easy fix with App Ops..
But the Torch app native to Carbon works just fine..
App Ops is your friend where evil programs ask for unnecessary permissions..
