I just rooted my phone last night and I noticed that when I use my camera, the phone would randomly reboot after taking a picture. When it does boot back up, 8-10 percent of the battery life is drained!?! has anybody else had this problem? I do have Xposed installed but I dont have any mods for the camera selected. I have the same problem using both the LG camera app and Googles camera app.. Any help would be appreciated!

Try and delete all exposed mods. Reboot and then try. Remove the google camera to and see. Then add 1 by one till you find the mod or app giving you the issue
BAD ASS G3
cool i uninstalled googles camera app and everything seems to be working just fine now thanks!

The camera has stopped working randomly. The only thing I could think of that might of caused it would be the phone some how shut down when it was in my pocket. When I start up the camera app it immediately closes. When I attempt to use Google goggles, it says cannot connect to camera. What can I do?
First off you can give us some more details as to what software you are running. Are you on a stock Sprint ROM? A custom ROM? Did you install any software and then notice this change? Does this happen 100% of the time?
I'm running the stock 2.2 rooted odexed rom. Stock kernel. And haven't installed any new software to cause this...
I've cleared cache, dalvik cache, camera app's cache and it still doesn't work...
No one has any idea? Has this ever happened to anyone else?
It happens to me on both ava stock 2.2 and now netarchys 2.2... I have to wipe everything to get it back for a few hours... it just did it to me again do you have netarchys fps fix?

This is the craziest thing ever. The camera has returned to working after 10 hours of not working. I didn't do anything to get it to return. I will be continuing to monitor the camera to see if it happens again... This is the first time it has ever happen and the first time I've been on a 2.2 Rom for a significant amount of time.
This just barely happened to my phone too! Grrrr!!!
I'm running Fresh.02 + I tried flashing several kernels to see if it would fix it but none of them helped.
kernels I tried, latest versions of: kingX, snap, netarchy
Will try to do a full wipe and flash the stock 2.2 rooted w/o any fancy mods. <--- ok this fixed it!
Does installing the 3D Gallery app cause the Sense camera app to randomly stop working?
I'm getting the same problem again on a different ROM.
UPDATE: I've uninstalled 3D Gallery & cleared data on the Camera app and it still doesn't work.
i am having this same problem. have flashed several roms with no fix. cannot pin point when this happened either. really frustrating. ive done reboots, wipe, you name it.
happened to me

Hi guys
Any luck with this problem? I'm using a rooted xperia neo running [email protected] #2 with an unlocked boot loader - I've used Google goggles many times before and then today its coming up with "Cannot connect to camera. You may need to restart your device" and yet the camera is working because behind this pop up I can see the image that the camera is seeing. I've tried to take a screen shot of this but the screen shot uses the camera and therefore I blanks out the image through the back lens.
I've also uninstalled the app and reinstalled it - cleared all Dalvik cache - as well as moved it to SD and made it a system app - none of these trials have made any difference.

Are you sure there are no problems or known bugs with the rom you are using? Have you tried reflashing your rom? (it might be a pain to do, but something in the rom might have broke and it can help to start fresh).
I never post here but I have had a problem with my phone's camera that I fix by some random thread I found a while ago so I thought I would share what helped me. The thread stated it is something to do with the camera's connection to the phone and sometimes with drops or bumps of the phone it becomes loose. All I had to do was turn the phone face down, put my thumb over the camera and press down with some force. Not enough to break it but just to reseat the connection. After that, restart the phone. I have done this a few times and it has been successful ever time. I hope you guys have the same success.

Check whether you have another camera application other than camera running.
Like camera 360 running in background while you try to open stock's camera. It will cause camera error.
Try uninstalling another application which uses camera as its's main feature

Does the camera error fixed after uninstalling instagram?
Can you give us the chronology on how the camera not working?
Like, the steps to recreate the problem.
Lastly, if the camera still "playing" with you, I suggest you bring it to the nearest Samsung Service Point as you might have faulty camera

thanks. will see if it still happens
Woah :eek
that's totally random then...
Do you have task killer app such as 2B Orange?
You might want to install it, open your camera... use it for a while...
go to 2B orange, kill the camera process...
leave it for few hours and try to restart it...

I can't seem to find that app anywhere. could you link me??
I think your phone can't use certain kernels especially cow's kernel, when you said you left the phone idle for a few hours and can't use the camera is same as my phone, only thing is after a few hours idle I experience force close for some apps when I open it and wifi error as well. only happens if I don't touch the phone for like an hour or more.

Hi. yeah i do experience what you experience. but i also have camera failed problems on stock roms too! That's what made me so curious. my stock rom doesnt have force close problems. now i am using hybrid rom and so far i'm not having the prob for 4 hrs alrdy. will be monitoring continuously
My girlfriend's Samsung Galaxy S III has been producing photos with random lines through the saved photos constantly. It originally did this most noticibly when the battery was critically low but now it does it all the time. I then thought it might be an issue with CM10, but I just updated it (clean) to 10.2 stable release and it still does it.
Curiously, some other third party camera apps don't do this, but actually right now I just checked and it is happening in all apps. The live preview from all cameras looks fine. It's the SAVED photos that are screwed up. I tried setting the camera app to Internal vs. SD Card to make sure it wasn't a bad SD card but that didn't change anything. Turns out it happens EVERY time with the flash on but sometimes with the flash off.
My mom has my old GSIII and hers does THE SAME THING on very low battery, but not as much as this phone. She is also on CM10.2. I didn't notice it while I used it for 8 months.
Finally, another friend of mine also has a Sprint Galaxy S III and his is not even rooted and still on stock ROM. His does it with full or dead battery and almost all the time too.
Is this a known problem or what? Should I just revert to stock and get it replaced? I will probably nandroid and switch to stock to see if it does it there.
Here's some links to problem files:

No one else has ever seen this? I flashed back to stock and it seems to do it LESS but picture quality is still iffy. Any idea why CM10 would do this but stock wouldn't?
Its a cm issue. Happens in low light photos. Has green lines and stuff in the photo correct?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Strange. Is there more info about it anywhere? Like I said a friend of mine has unrooted stock and it does it. And it seems to only do it when flash fires. I figured out if I use touch and then snap the photo works fine. It also does it more or worse on low battery. Battery is not bad.

I haven't paid attention to the battery level when I notice this issue but I have noticed that it doesn't happen on the Touchwiz Camera app. It does happen with Focal (recreated last night) and the stock AOSP app (when I was on CM10/11). I am currently on MOAR 7.0.1 and noticed it on Focal last night. I believe the battery was close to dead and charging. I wonder if its the way the app accesses the flash.

Battery got down to about 39% when I last tested. Saw some faint streaking using Focal. None using stock camera.
Strange guys. It does it less on CM11 with Camera Zoom FX than stock. Always on stock with flash on. At least with Camera Zoom FX, you can put flash on torch mode and it works fine. This isn't so bad since it helps focus better and faster anyway. Blinding though.

Sadly i have same problem and some times i get camera not available .I am using 4k and slowmo fix.I wonder if thats the case
No, it's not a problem with the mods you're using. I have the same issues with the standard firmware without any mods applied.
Hoping for an update soon to fix these issues.
Don't update to .108 but wipe the system and flash it from scratch.
Try removing sd card and see.My problems went away (delay, stuck etc) after replacing sd card (64g sandisk ultra) back to a g.skill 32g works like charm.
That is normal, since kitkat we all have problem's with camera, there is memory problem i hope sony will fix this soon...
Hadn't any problem with mine so far, also upgraded to .108 via OTA.

I have been able to fix this issue on two Z1C phones using the following steps:
Reboot into safe mode
Clear Data and Cache for all camera apps and services
Turn off "Touch anywhere to capture" in camera settings
Uninstall SnapChat
Uninstall Skype
Reboot and voila!
Various reports online suggested that Skype and Snapchat are causing the Z1C issues, combined with the Touch Anywhere to capture feature.
This should fix your problems - although Sony still have to actually fix the firmware so that you don't have to do that
Doesn't work for me but its a problem of the camera somethimes i do photos with the Google camera and somethimes after i take the foto it freeze the app for 10 second or forever
Inviato dal mio D5503
the initial press from a fresh bootup is slow to open the camera app.
Afterwards its super quick.
All,
I noticed yesterday when attempting to use the front facing camera that I get only a black screen, the camera app switches back to rear camera for a moment, then the app closes.
I am not sure when this became an issue as I'm not a selfie kind of guy. The rear camera continues to function just fine.
I have tried the following fixes
wipe data in the camera app
wipe user data
uninstall / reinstall camera update
boot into safe mode
uninstall / reinstall app that utilize the camera
None of the "fixes" have resolved the problem.
Does anyone have a suggestion where to head next?
Phone is S-Off, unlocked, rooted, and running the latest stock ROM.
Should I just say f-it and try a different ROM?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Update: I flashed LeeDroid ROM this morning and the front facing camera is still not working. Looks like it could be a hardware issue...

yah, that's what it looks like. hope you have warranty.
I have the same issue. Previously when I pressed the swirly-arrows button it tried to switch then locked up and wouldn't do anything until I restarted. Now when I press the button it just spins around and nothing happens. I used catlog reader to find some errors being logged. I posted a thread about it if you're interested.
