Well seeing theres not much dev going on for the phone itself Its safe to say if its done its going to be awhile.
Just got my LG G3 D858 (Dual Sim) yesterday.
Just wondering, LG will release Lollipop soon right? should I root now or just wait for the 5.0 update?

I would root right now while you have the chance and install a custom lollipop rom.
After the official lollipop gets released by LG it will lock your bootloader, If you already have it unlocked.
Also it's rumored that root may not work on the G3 after the official lollipop update.

Thanks for the advice.
Yeah im planning to root now.. problem is.. I dont think other ROMs would work for the D858 variant. (Dual Sim)
Is it possible to get OTA while being rooted?

I think CloudyG3 1.2 -=- [All Variants] might work for you as a custom rom, He hasn't released lollipop version yet, It's still on 4.4.2 for now.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/rom-cloudyg3-1-0-t2917467
But when he does release the lollipop version it will be rooted!! and you will still have your bootloader unlocked!!
This is the rom I'm waiting for on my D852 since I'm pretty much in the same boat as you when it comes to not much development for my model.
You will lose root or bootloop if you OTA while rooted.
I've seen a lot of people get their G3's stuck in a bootloop from accepting a OTA while bootloader is unlocked too.
Personally I would just avoid any OTA's for now and stick with stock 4.4.2 or a custom rom, I'm itching to try lollipop too, sooo bad. but it's not worth being locked down!!

Try and us towel root ( Towelroot.com ) worked like a charm for me. Its from Geohot who is a very well respected hacker in Android , iOs and he is the one who jailbroke the PS3 originally.

Yeah, it's because you have the 11c software instead of the stock 10b. You need to flash the original firmware. Google xda g3 stock 10b and you'll find out how to do it.

just look for your specific stock firmware. There are threads on xda showing you which roots work on which versions.

yup. I saw the spreadsheet file, stumproot is suppose to work, but I did an OTA update, which patched my device.
I've already contacted the dev, hopefully he can help me out.

Dont even bother with that. Find your stock firmware and put your phone into download mode and use LG Flash Tool to flash to stock. Try googling what I just described, and you will be able to root to your pleasure.

Thanks..
Need to pay to download the ROM?!?!
Thanks for your help guys. I was able to downgrade and root successfully.
After rooting, there's an OTA available. Will I lose root if i install OTA?
I'd root now, the rooting is so easy nowadays.
I've seen people successfully rooting G3 G2 Gpro2...ect. on stock lollipop, but still haven't seen anyone rooting Gpro 240 stock lollipop.
IS it very different than other LG phones?
Obviously someone has done it, since there are Custom roms with root. It would be awesome if someone could show a method.:good::good::good:

What I meant, was rooting stock lollipop rom without flashing a custom rom. But your links were great! I gave you thanks anyway.:good:
I hope this is proper section to all of you who have the LG G Pad 8.3 (Wi-Fi) I have this tablet at home and it's been on 4.4.2 for longtime with root.
Software Version: 50020d
Does this mean I can flash the TWRP recovery using flashify and start using roms that have V500 in the title? I read somewhere there are few G Pad 8.3 wifi versions I think one with A letter no idea what the difference is though.
in the TWRP thread it says this:
NEEDS ROOT AND A LOKI VULNERABLE ABOOT (Stock 4.2.X roms)
I do have root used towelroot long time ago but about about the loki? I am on 4.4.2 currently.
Is this step needed even if I am on 4.4.2?
Thanks!
You probably need to downgrade your bootloader (aboot.img) to one from 4.2.2. That's what those of us with the VK810.4G variant have to do before putting TWRP on. You do that with adb.

I would but I don't even have the same variant so I'd have to search for it. The TWRP thread for my variant has the link to the needed aboot.img and instructions. I don't know if any of the TWRP threads for your variant do.
If it were me, I'd start with performing an XDA Advanced Search of the root "LG G Pad 8.3" forum for threads (not posts) with TWRP in the title, then start looking through the OP of each one and see if they have the needed files/instructions. Surely the information must be on here somewhere, and no, I'm not calling you Shirley [the movie "Airplane!" (1980) reference].
i have no interest in rooting my device i want to downgrade my AT&T LG G3 Vigor D725 back to 4.4 kitkat because lolipop is an absolute god awful mess and yes ive tried looking it up on google but ive seen stock firmware downloads for the D850 but i have a D725 also are there any risks of downgrading? and sorry if im posting this in the wrong forum
EDIT:Changed 4.4.2 to 4.4 Kitkat
Seems like no body ever wants to help. I'm also looking for that firmware as well

Yea i was talking to my best friend on skype and he said that if he can he will buy an AT&T LG G3 Vigor with 4.4.2 or at least 4.4 and extract the firmware and send it to me. It seems that there is a small amount of interest for it. If he goes through with it I will upload the firmware here for you guys to download.
