Way to make the camera better? - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Is there a way to make the camera better on this phone?
I find it has a huge issue with contrast.
If there is a lot of light in one area the picture is grainy and unusable.
I look forward to some help.

I have found that HDR smooths the exposure evenly across the image

I know maybe even a third party app can adjust contrast better

Thanks for the reply, I didn't think anyone was ever going to respond.
This phone really doesn't take the greatest pictures in medium to high contrast scenes.

I have found that artificial lighting takes the best shots.....if you know a thing or two about photography you might be able to balance the iso and exposer timings to get the best shots

Here are a few pics I have taken with and without HDR you can see the difference it makes

Thanks. It seems that on my phone the sunlight in those pics would be really blown out.

Hmmm idk about that, from all the s3's both US and international I've seen just have a bad time with intense light as seen in my pics but HDR or manual exposure and Iso etc... Will fix it right up

I'll give it a shot. I've tried hdr and it was still awful. I'm due for an upgrade but I'm holding out for the S6. Lol.

Well the note 4 looks pretty amazing but I have no idea how the s6 is gunna turn out

i know this is obvious , but found it with my phone : make sure lens is clean.
err on the side of kindness

Camera Comparison Shots

I know we have all heard about how 'bad' the camera on the Galaxy Nexus is. Most of the negative reaction to the camera is purely based on the megapixel count, not actual comparison shots. So, I thought it would be neat to actually see how the camera does in comparison to other smartphone cameras. I had a chance to test the Galaxy Nexus in comparison to the Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC Rezound, and HTC Droid Incredible. I took a picture of my cubicle wall with each, and then cropped each pic to a portion of the flag on my wall. I did not zoom in or out, merely cropped. Here is the result of my test:

Granted, this was a limited test in just one scenario, but I thought the Galaxy Nexus held it's own here. Anyone have any comparison shots they can share?
I could post a comparison, but it would be between the GN and nothing and the GN would win.
As it's the only phone and camera I carry everywhere with me and therefore it's the best one at any given time that I need a camera.
Gnex photo looks the sharpest. The stars are a little washed out compared to the GS2 though.
Wth is with the yellow tint from the Rezound?
I think people are basing the quality of the photos on Mega pixel alone. They see 5MP compared to 8MP and just disregard the actual quality of the picture.

i don't have a direct comparison, but here's a couple of panoramic shots.
this one was taken with my Rezound:

and here is one i took with my GN the other day:

Yeah, the color on the Rezound, at least indoors under artificial light, is a little off. I took several shots and they all had that yellowish look to them.

Question about the quality of photos

Hi guys,
Quick question about taking photos with the G3. I can't get an OK (let alone nice) photo of a concert with it. The performer always is overexposed, and I didn't find a way around it. At first I thought that it was just the best a small phone camera could do in these conditions (even a good one) but then my friend just beside me took the same picture just after me with an iphone 4S and the pic was better. You could actually see the performer's face and some other details on him, not just a white overexposed silhouette. Am I missing something here ?
Here's an example of a pic I took last night :

BTW, I'm using the stock camera (I'm using the Cloudy rom).
Try xcam

As most of the photo seems to be a black area, it tries bring out stuff from there, that is why it "overexposes" the image. Did you try HDR mode?
XCam is good camera app, which allows you control the ISO values, and those may help you in situations like this.
Yes I tried HDR mode, and the result was the same. I was surprised that the stock app didn't offer more options to deal with this type of photo setting. I will try X Cam, thanks for the suggestion. Does it take advantage of the IR autofocus ?

Yes, it does.

Z5P vs Z3 Camera, Z5P owners help needed!

Hi. Sony Z5 premium is being sold here in China, where I work, since beginning of this month. I already have Z3 for a year and I wonder if there's any game-changing upgrade to camera comparing to Z3?
I don't care 4k screen but I rather care camera quality. Z5P owners, would you share your idea with me please?
Actually, Z3 Camera is good except for extra white light everywhere when it detects my daughter's face and tries to brighten it. If by any way, I turn this face detection off, it shoots her face dark. That is, when it tries to brighten my daughter face, then everything else also goes very bright and white.
Z3 + Z5P user here.
i think u should turn on HDR of the camera (on Z3) instead.
---------- Post added at 04:03 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:59 PM ----------
annnnd the image quality upgrade from Z3 to Z5P is not huge for the back camera.
front camera is a big one as the resolution is upgraded from 2.0M to 5.0M.
Z5P's focusing is faster as they advertised.

I tried it, no success. The photos, when Z3 tries to lighten the environment, are full of white light.

Is the ZF2 camera supposed to be this grainy?

Is it maybe cause of crappy lighting? every time i take a room in my pictures are all grainy
Im using cm13 and all normal settings on google camera

me with stock asus zen ui
the pictures took by my zen2 also grainy
even worse in low-light condition
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yeah, low light always make photos grainy, on every phone.
Low light photos are usually grainy. Photos taken in CM are grainier than stock because CM doesn't have full access to all the camera optimisations. The zenfone's toshiba sensor is also pretty poor in dealing with uneven lighting - bright areas get blown out and darker areas get very grainy. I enjoy the photos the zenfone takes in well-lit situations, and just accept its limitations otherwise. It's just a phone camera in a cheap phone, after all.
Yup. Without Pixelmaster's optimizations, you'll get those kinds of pictures.
Grainy pics are due to using a high ISO. On a SLR you fix this by manually turning down the ISO, opening the aperture, and increasing the shutter speed. ALL CELL PHONE CAMERAS SUCK, so if you want better photos buy a Nikon DSLR.
Sent from my ASUS_Z00AD using XDA-Developers mobile app
Yes that is normal for ZF2, and you get same or even worse pics with PixelMaster (what that apparently does is first smudges the grains out and then applies a sharpening filter, so if you zoom in it looks like the picture was painted with a brush). Even if you reduce the ISO and change shutter speed to 1/2 second in manual mode the result is still grainy.
Yeah, I turned off optimization to get rid of the painted look. The digital modifications were awful. Much better to modify the pic in Photoshop.

Really liking the macro, even though most people say it's lacking compared to the S21 Ultra.

Like this one a lot. A lot of odd colors in the image and it balanced it well (the green and magenta in the backdrop).
I'm quite impressed by a quickly taken nightshot (on a fast moving train, approx 80km/h). OxygenOS 11.2.2.2.
Ultra wide
I just got my phone yesterday and i'm now testing how well it performs. First impressions is that yes it can perform very well even in dim lit situations. As i always shoot RAW this one is shot as such using the Pro mode and then processed in Capture One Pro.

Pics are really looking great! Can't wait to get the device...
One more shot, this one from inside a local church. Shot in RAW and edited with Capture One Pro. There were so little noise i didn't even bother to remove it, just a bit of sharpening and keystoning to straighten the lines and then the usual adjustments with exposure, curves and shadows & highlights adjustments.
/ Magnus
Would like to see some pictures of faces (with stock camera app). With my op7t, I was VERY disappointed with the pictures of my kids (with the OOS camera), very blurry and smudgy. Switched to GCAM and totally fine.

What setting you used? The hand artifact looks weird. I understand it is because of the movement (or a hand of a ghost of dead movie producer?), but how the hell it created this weird edge/highlight is beyond me.
