Just wanting to start a list as to which apps/files have been been checked to see if after removing won't mess up the phone. I want to debloat this as much as possible
I've removed all at&t apps except smart wifi
removed Polaris office, live wallpapers, Facebook, city ID
want to remove YP but it says LG YP and looks like there is some link to it from the contact book that may break, if someone has already done that please post.
Not going to touch any Google apps yet since looks like some are getting security errors on reboot
what else have you guys deleted and haven't had any issues
has anyone deleted that other setting app for tabbed view... May just disable it since I don't really need two next to each other

You have to root it and then use titanium backup to remove or freeze apps.
Better to freeze them first to make sure you don't delete something that will cause issues later.
Hope this helps.

....Or just install root explorer and delete them through that. Freezing apps does nothing.

Except this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1970546
Installed the update from AT&T, then applied this root. Works great, no problems.
Going to go start freezing some of the bloat...

Not a good idea at all until we have usable recovery. As linked above, some of the apps are intertwined tightly within the lg security and you will lock down your phone if you remove the wrong app. The linked poster removed Google Movies and that borked his phone.
Freezing is fine for me for now. It is not as if the bloat is causing lag, this phone is fast.
The security issue seems to be happening if Google apps were tampered. I've removed every AT&T app except myAT&T along with the Browser and Email app and even the EasySettings, and haven't gotten the security screen.
I removed most of the ATT Apps. Also got rid of LG YP. All it did was make it so the yp link in contacts doesn't work. Just an error message, no force closing.
Also added 4.2 keyboard and camera as well as SVoice. Replaced LGs weird browser with stock ICS. Loving this thing so far.
I've frozen everything with AT&T and YP in it, so far no problems. I'm also using everything I restored from my SGSIII. Apex, SwiftKey X, Handcent, etc...

How'd you get the stock browser to work? This is the only piece I can't get to work. It always force closes when trying to open it.

I got an AOSP 4.0.4 browser apk, moved it to system/apps via root browser. Renamed the lg browser to browser.bup (just to keep a stock backup copy) wiped dalvik and rebooted. Permissions need to be set to rw-r-r.
Hope that helps ya.

No go, moved it to /system/app, chmod 644, deleted /data/dalvik-cache and rebooted. Still Force closes. Any chance you can share your APK? Mine is supposed to be from the GSM Galaxy Nexus but you never know...
EDIT: Nevermind, just grabbed a Browser.apk off some random CyanogenMod 9 ROM. Didn't like it moved to /system/app, but took it fine when sideloaded as a regular APK. Go figure.
Wow, Google should've kept this browser. It blows Chrome out of the water in terms of smoothness and functionality.

Did it the same way as mentioned for the browser. Could never get photo sphere working, but i like the interface of the 4.2 camera so much more.
I once had a lg nitro hd and after removing all the bloat i safely could i found that my battery life was amazing. Has anyone experienced that on this phone too?
We should make a list of what we are freezing/removing.
Also, I've been trying to get the browser trick to work all morning... no dice. I can't even get it to show up. Had my friend send me browser.apk from his AOKP rom, and just realized its Jelly Bean.... might be the problem. Haven't tried the camera trick yet..
EDIT:
Ok I got the browser working. Used CM9 rom. Its sooooo fast. I've uninstalled Firefox, and Chrome... Now on to find the camera from 4.2
Ok, I can't get the 4.2 camera working to save my life. It FCes everytime I try it. The gallery is working fine. Used the files from here:

PM me.
Hey there,
since a week I own a Note 10.1 2014ed with LTE. So far I didn't modify anything on it and run the stock -MJ2 firmware.
I want to restrict some apps of accessing what the don't need to access and since 4.3 supposedly has this rights control feature called "App Ops" already integrated, I checked how to use it... Google gives many links to descriptions how to open the feature, they are all the same: Either you use a launcher that can start "Activities" (like Nova launcher) or you install one of the many apps from Playstore which do the trick as well.
Here is what I found on the Note:
Whenever I start the App Ops (no matter if I use an app, and I tried several, or start this activity), it just takes me to the first page of the Settings screen (WiFi).
Although searching the web for a while, it seems no one who owns this Note is using the feature or not having the trouble with it.
Can someone confirm this problem or, even better, give me a solution for it?
Cheers

I have that very same thing happen with something totally different. In wanam when I try to enable the flashlight from lock screen feature it takes me tu settings page nothing to do with camera flashlight or lock screen.....No idea I just gave up for now
Hmmm, no one interested?
I'm just wondering now if people don't care what their apps are accessing or if they use a third party program to make restrictions.
Any idea how to control apps will be welcome. If you use sth like LBE, please leave a reply.
Cheers
Hi there again.
Since there is no information available throughout the web concerning my question I was in contact with Samsung support about it. I thought it might be helpful for others what was replied.
They said that using the original Samsung Firmware, the feature cannot be used. They didn't specify whether it was completely removed from the system or only disabled so itcould possibly still work.
Since I am not a developer I didn't go into more detail there.
Now I hope that a custom ROM like Cyanogen will be available soon for the tablet.

I'm facing the exact same issues.
When following the windows opening when starting App Ops from e.g AppOpsX, a window titled "App Ops" opens quickly, then closes and ends up on the Settings screen. Same for flashlight.
My best guess was that Samsungs version of the Settings App blocks access in a way that they can only handle windows/panes that their app is capable of - would explain why it shows up just quickly and then closes.
I've been thinking that if I'd be able to flash the stock settings app, temporarily freeze the Samsung one and try App Ops - might work?
I have the same issue. My p605 is not rooted
So I rooted my LG G3 D855 with towelroot and changed the dpi to 540 (also have xposed, KK gravity box, greenify and others running). It was then when I noticed that I started having issues with the stock gallery force closing on me each time i open it. i want to be able to use the stock gallery app as I have saved all my photos to my SD Card and 3rd party apps are not able to delete items in the sd card due to the kit kat update.
next is the camera. i am unable to touch and focus in the default camera app. i like the stock camera as it takes photos really quickly using the laser auto focus.
any one with ideas on how to solve it, or anyone else with the same issues?

This is because you changed the DPI. Change it back to stock and your issues will go away. The apps crashing has nothing to do with root, it has to do with what you did after you rooted.

guess i have to be very precise. i changed it back to the original dpi, still does not solve my issues.
cleared data and cache of both apps, still remains. finally i decided to check my xposed modules and found that "Swipeback" was causing the issue.
for anyone running rooted and using xposed + swipeback, this will affect your stock camera + gallery apps.

I am having the same issue. Seems to be related to the Auto Hide Softkeys, either that or the G3 Tweakbox.
Any input?

you need to disable each module one at a time to narrow down the module that is causing the issue. i am thinking it might be the auto hide softkeys. hope you manage to work it out!
I'm having issues on my AT&T D850 while recording video and zooming...if I try to zoom while recording the camera FC's. I can already be zoomed in and record fine...but if I try to zoom out it FC's....any idea's? I'm rooted but that's it, no xposed or anything.
So I have got here a brand new LG G3 with hardly any apps installed. Even then, the default LG Home UI lags terribly. It keeps on redrawing and refreshing itself every time I exit an app and enter the homescreen. Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!

Can't say I have. I am honestly just terrified at the sheer scale of the lag out of the box. Could kindly point me to some useful lagfixes? Thanks buddy!

Don't panic , try to make a quick factory reset for your device it should solve the problem , if not and you don't want to waste more time by sending it back to the warranty , u can flash a new stock rom using either tot file or kdz , u can find both of the ways in one thread here .
keep us updated
I was about to complain about the same. I think 2gb/ 16 gb version have this launcher redrawing thing. But totally unprofessional approach for ui and launcher ram management. This is happening since d85520a what a shame.
Or, simply install Nova Launcher and have a quicker launcher with way more options as well. Win - win.
And yes, most if not all LG widgets will not work
cough LG cough. it's their launcher, don't stress about lag sir.
i'd also recommend nova launcher. :good:

Did you update your firmware to the latest?
I got hold of my ZE551ML a few days ago and so far I'm pretty pleased with it, apart from all this ZenUI crap. There are dozens of Asus apps (I count 29, although some you could call settings) and many are poor versions of ones that Google already provide, or do next to nothing, and aren't removable. The notification drawer and lock screen are likewise lacking compared to the default android ones (and uglier).
I tried installing the Google Now Launcher but there's no way of hiding apps and so it's full of the ASUS stuff...so I've defaulted to my previous standard Apex launcher which at least allows me to hide the apps I don't want access to.
Is there any way of getting the stock android lock screens and notification drawer? Or nuking the built-in ASUS stuff?

Install Nova Launcher will take care of homescreen and drawer. Clean and customizable. Notifications is another matter.
Edit: NM. See you've already got Apex.
It's quite annoying to me as well, they take up a huge amount of RAM and I only have 2GB version... I tried installing other launchers but I can't remove the ASUS apps which run in the background.

You can download Titanium backup, and place all Asus apps into a Bloat label. The bloatware will be uninstalled once you follow through the app's directions.

Because getting rid of Bloatware is basically getting rid of system files, you will have to root in order to accomplish this. So yes. However, rooting should not be a difficult thing to do, and it is reverseable.

You can disable the google apps, but you can't disable the Asus ones.
Okay the best way is to root the phone and to remove all the unwanted apps with root uninstaller. I've tried it and now I've got less background processes running and more free ram for my own apps!
This is the most lean and efficient method so far, until someone comes up with a custom ROM.
Use auto start manager in your zenfone, disable all apps from auto starting except for those u want or need .
If you're not worried about POTENTIALLY voiding warranty, I would suggest you to unlock your bootloader, install TWRP, and use one of the debloated stock ROMs. There is SuperZen and Prism Barebone which both are stock ROM but bloatwares uninstalled. I'm personally using Prism Barebone. It's basically stock ROM (ZenUI) but Asus apps are uninstalled so less bloated and performance is better.
And if you wanna go further, you can try cm 12.1 but I personally wouldn't recommend because cm is not as stable as stock based rom
Btw: Stock means what your oem (asus) gives you, and not pure android like nexus devices in this context. So your title "stockifying" basically means makes it as close as what Asus give you by default.
