Having some interesting issues with my firetv with xbmc that I never had when using an apple tv with xbmc.
I run a mysql server. It is running and XBMC Attaches to it perfectly.
But my issues are that as follows
1. Watched state disappears if fire tv is rebooted
2. cannot resume my movies from where I left off
3. some posters revert to poster I don't even have.
Wondering if anyone has anything I can try to see where the problem is.
Mysql runs on my mac pro, with the xbmc media files store on the hard drives there.
My fire tv uses sources.xml which has all my sources mapped.
Content settings don't stay on my setup for type of content.
My main concern is it is as if the database for xvmc is wiped every time I reboot the fire tv...
This never happened on openelec with my apple tv 1st gen running 13.2 and never happened when on eden on apple tv 1st gen original os, and never happened on xbmc 13.2 on an android mx2 box I had.
Everything was working with resume, watched state, etc on the other systems that ran 13.2, so not sure why the fire tv is doing it.
Fire tv is rooted, updates blocked, boots into XBMC using the xbmc launcher.
Advanced settings file has all the settings and I know it is using it because I have checked and it is using it.
I am at a loss as to why it seems as if my database is constantly resetting on mysql....
Running Kodi, everything is great EXCEPT
I still have SABnzbd and Sickbeard running on my old OpenElec box. (Also my Plex server). I have it set to update Kodi when a new show is downloaded, but it seems that Kodi is not receptive unless it is the running application. Is there anyway I can have FireTV continue to run Kodi, even if I am watching Amazon Prime?
Right now, I have it set to scan the for new files upon start, but that takes a while, and I want to watch Brooklyn 99 NOW dammit
I think the answer is leaving Kodi running when I am not using the FireTV, but someone might have a better option.
If you still have OpenElec running all the time on another box, just setup MySQL & Library Auto Update on it, and sync your AFTV install library to it. This way no library updates are ever required on the client machines.
The "same version" warning is more about builds than forks. I use it + path substitutions with several 13.2 variants (also tested with Kodi RC3) and it works quite well as long as the database server doesn't sleep
This type of setup also makes browsing XBMC/Kodi library on AFTV much snappier
I was thinking the oposite
I have the stick and its always on...even with the tv off.
Im going nuts trying to get my library with the shortcuts on home page
Hi folks. So I went ahead and side loaded my first app no problem, Xfinity TV Go. Works great except I can't choose any of the menu selections or get the main menu at the top to reappear after it disappears. Buttons do nothing after the menu fades out the first time. Is this normal for sideloaded apps? Do some not function at all? Version issue? Thanks.
It's normal. Most non-FireTV-specific apps are looking for touch-screen inputs, so to use them you need some kind of mouse/air-mouse/touchpad device.
Okay that's what I was thinking. I knew it was too good to be true. What's the attraction for sideloading then? Thanks for the reply.
Mostly Kodi (or whatever version you want to use), as you're all-in-one media center for your local media as well as a huge number of streaming sources: it's 100% functional with the FireTV remote. The only other side-loaded app I've found (mostly checking media streamer apps) that doesn't need an air-mouse is Crunchyroll. ES File Explorer used to work with the FireTV remote, but this was broken in an update about a week ago.
With an air-mouse, most Android apps will work: if it's not designed for Android TV, it will probably function.
Check out Firestarter (http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/themes-apps/app-root-home-launcher-replacement-app-t3118135) if you want to easily access side-loaded apps, it's excellent.
I've tried TVMC, SPMC, XBMC 13.2 Gotham, Kodi 14.2 Helix, Kodi 15.1 Isengard on the Amazon Fire Stick, Fire TV, android phone (S6), and laptop across various internet connections (at home, work, friends). All acts the same. They are all either freezing, crashing (kicking me back to the Amazon home screen), or constantly buffering.
Is it the addon itself? Mainly use Genesis and SALTS. Yify and Stream Engine isn't currently working to further test.
Is it my advanced settings? I tried different advancedsettings.xml as well as zero cache. Same thing.
What can it be?! What methods should I do?
How are you connecting to your file server? SMB, NFS, ? Are you using wireless or ethernet?
Having same issue!
Hello,
I have a fire tv box which is working perfectly!
I have a fire tv stick which I set up by backing up the files from my box and restoring them to the stick. Every time I try to watch a movie either on Genesis, or Phoenix, after about 10 to 15 minutes, it kicks me back out to the launch application screen. I am using it with wifi, from an apple airport express. Thanks!

This is by wireless on the stick.

probably your cachemembuffersize on your advanced xml. looks like the stick only has around 140mb of free system ram to play with so 41943040 (kodi uses 3 times the set amount) is equal to about 120 mb any more than that may crash kodi
not sure if the cache can use ant of the 512mb set aside for video/graphics

1. Go to this website and download adbFire. I use this to install Kodi, FireStarter, and backup/restore my sticks and boxes
jocala.com/adbfire.html
2. Go here to learn how to use it:
htpcbeginner.com/setup-fire-tv-on-adbfire/
Once you get your setup how you like, back it up with adbFire. I am using Kodi, with Ares Wizard I installed SchismTv, and I also am using FireStarter so that one click of the home button is FireTv home and two clicks is Schism Tv. I love it, it is so easy to use this way. I then restored my backup to my other boxes and sticks, and now they are all the same.
Make sure you turn off all your wireless devices in your home. They make the file transfer super slow.
I've been using the stick for a while now and it is a bit hit and miss. I've just ordered a Fire TV Box, so will try and copy over my Kodi setup and see if it's any better. I have a similar setup on my N9 and it seems a lot more responsive on there so I'm hoping the extra processing power and RAM will show on the TV.
Junk stuck on my Fire TV stick?
I got a Fire TV stick and did nothing but sideload Kodi and everything was working great for days. Then I started loading it up with other apps and noticed Kodi started buffering and wasn’t able to play some streams (I have over 50Mbps). I did a factory reset and reloaded Kodi but the slowness has stayed. I am going to start trying the usual fixes, but is it possible that some remnants of the other apps are still in there slowing me down? I had put Llama, ES file explorer, Chrome, and some kids educational apps (as sacrificial apps to try to get Kodi on the home screen via Llama) before the factory reset. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I have a fire tv stick as well. Loaded kodi and installed the build I want.
I then installed Firestarter.
Then I restarted the stick a couple times. Then I loaded up the apps that I wanted to use (xfinity TV, a couple games for the kids, etc)... I don't really have too many issues with buffering, although, I have also edited my "advancedsettings.xml" file as well.
I also have a 75MB connection...
