What would using this app have anything to do with wifi calling? I've been using Smitten for a while now on my G3 and my wifi/wifi calling is fine. It's a really good sms app too. I can't stand the stock sms app and Smitten is a big improvement.

I like this, but I was experience some weird annoying bugs that led me to stop using it. Messages would appear to go to the wrong person, event though they didn't. Random crashes frequently.
I mean I need mms over data and texting when no signal only with wifi calling with stock app will work.

Same boat. I love the hoverchat app for SMS but don't use it as my primary because anything other than stock seems spotty when on WiFi.

ok, so ive noticed that when on TW, you can send and recieve MMS on wifi (which is great for me because of not so good 3g speeds) but on CM9 you cant. Is there a way to make it work on CM9? or is this only for TW? OR just explain whats going on here, thanks.

I am familiar with that app, but im talking about receiving/sending MMS from and to your number, in the stock app, handcent, or anything similar.
I have no problem sending and receiving mms on cm9 w/ wifi on. The phone still sends it via 3g, it just connects to the network real quick and then disconnects.

thats the problem, on TW it would use wifi, not 3g. its great for me because where i live, data speeds arent that great |not complaining|. now, id like to do that on CM9
Mms through wifi only works thru Samsung's stock messaging app. I know exactly what OP means. You can uncheck 3g and 4g and still mms go thru just on wifi. I wondered why at one point my epic stopped doing this so I played with some settings and figured out that handcent was the culprit. Once I stopped handcent from disabling the stock app mms over wifi worked again. So to OP the reason why it don't work on cm9 is bcuz stock messaging app is removed or if you're on stock then you probably have a third party SMS app with the disable stock setting on.
Edit: This also applies to 4g. With the stock app you can send thru 4g too. If you disable or remove it, sending thru 4g or wifi won't work and stick to 3g only.

Is there anyway to send receive mms over WiFi? I use go sms and i think the app only sends over cell. Wondering if it's the app or Rom. Any help would be great

Tmobile only allows sms/mms to send over their network. Ive heard in the past that either mods or some 3rd party apps can accomplish sending over wifi, but im not sure.

Really? I did not know that. I dont use wifi calling and when its on it always seemed to give me problems with messaging. I'd just turn it off an move on so I coulda been easily missing something.

mms thru wifi and gosms dont mix. try handcent instead. works great, but you have to be on wifi calling for it to work

Go SMS will send/receive mms when connected to Wi-Fi but not if you have Wi-Fi calling also on. Not sure there's a way around this. However the stock messaging app works on wifi even with Wi-Fi calling on. But even with the issue I still prefer to use go SMS pro over stock or handcent mainly due to it's iPhone mms group chat capabilities. Handscent seems to have a lot of issues with this feature.

Yeah thats annnoying as hell! Had that problem on my old mt3gs but tmobile fixed it pretty quick with an update. I thought it had been fixed but apparently theyve only fixed the bug where mms wouldnt send at all if wifi was active. Pretty sure there's a fix but I haven't found it yet.

Other solution
you could always use textplus instead. its an app that lets u send and recieve free texts and mms over a data network or wifi. it even gives u a number to match your area code. just a suggestion

Bone stock should be able to send/receive mms over wifi calling. If you are using a ROM I have no idea, you'll have to reach out to the developer of your ROM. If you have done the mods to enable group mms, you'll have to revert back to your stock SecMms.apk to send/receive via wifi calling then switch back to your modded SecMms.apk. Unless someone has made a fix but I haven't been able to find any yet.
Hi guys,
I live on campus and we have wifi everywhere and so I have the 200mb option to save some pennies.
Can I disable mobile data somehow but leave MMS (MMS does not count towards tmobile data). It already racked up 60mb. That and it might save some battery too, who knows.
Are you saying if you turn off mobile data you lose MMS? I'm confused..

If you are on stock ROM i think there is a way to use MMS over WiFi calling. But after a quick google, it seems like third party apps such as GOSMS and Handcent dont like MMS over WiFi calling. So just use the stock MMS app. Remember, this is only if you are on a stock ROM or TouchWiz ROM. AOSP ROMs do not work at all with WiFi calling (From what i remember)
There is no way to disable data and still receive MMS.

The only solution, even though not the best, would be to switch to an HTC phone.
The only phones I know that are able to receive MMS with Mobile Data off are HTC phones.
Otherwise no other phone I've used does it and stock Android doesn't do it either.

Dude just call T-Mobile and ask them to disable your internet data but leave your MMS open!! Works perfectly!
AT&T unfortunately doesn't do this, but T-Mobile sure does. I used to be on T-Mobile but switched 3 months ago and found out that I was screwed by AT&T since they won't disable internet.

Hey all, I'm looking to try out some 3rd party sms apps. Not in love with the stock one and Hangouts can't send/receive MMS when I'm connected to wifi.
Anybody know of any SMS apps that MMS works while connected to WIFI like the stock app?
(posting this in general rather than Q&A in case others are looking for the same thing in the future).
Thanks all
Are you asking for an app that sends MMS via WiFi? I don't think that's possible. When I'm connected to WiFi on stock app it uses 4g to send MMS and I have wifi calling on too.

I think I confused myself lol. Okay, so normally my WiFi calling is set to cellular preferred so most of the time I have cell signal when connected to WiFi. When I'm on WiFi and send a MMS the 4g logo pops up so it never sends MMS on WiFi or at least not when I have a signal. Was op trying to ask for an app that'll send MMS over WiFi calling when he has no cell signal? Also, I think WiFi calling can send regular SMS when there's no cell signal. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on that one.

when youre connected to wifi calling your signal bars should be empty with an x signifying you have no mobile radio. wifi calling handles calls/sms/mms. and any 3rd party messaging app other than hangouts should also work the same way since they actually use the stock messaging app still.

HD means HD calling. T-Mo has it in places and it supposedly makes call quality much better. I havent seen it here yet so I cant comment but Ive read tech site reviews that say its legit. I think Sprint has it too.
According to the T-Mo website HD calls are nationwide now. If thats the case and we have it here, it sucks. Call quality is awful here, echoes and random noise during calls.
I don't mean to sound like a noob. But I've been wondering for awhile now. Why won't Samsung stock message app send pics when connected to WiFi. I always have to disconnect WiFi to send and get pics but not from most 3rd party apps. Is this just me cause I'm using GSM sim? But I think I had this problem with another Samsung phone. If someone could give me some insight that'd be awesome. Thanks!

Thanks for your reply. But I was just being inquisitive and wondering why the stock app behaves that way.
All other phones I've had send mms whether WiFi is on or not. And like I stated already, 3rd party apps work as they should. Is it a Samsung thing or sprint?
I don't know cause ever since stage fright came out I've just been using textra due to the only text messaging app that has the protection for stage fright.
