You can downgrade with a custom ROM, but you can't Odin back to an earlier bootloader

How do I return to full stock?

I have the galaxy s4 SGH-M919N which is the Metro PCS version of the S4. Back when it was at 4.3 I think, I flashed the T-Mobile firmware to get 4.4. Currently I'm rooted and using a 5.1 ROM. I'm getting a new phone soon and would like to reset the flash counter and everything back to stock Metro PCS to sell the phone. On Metro PCS the model number is SGH-M919N and T-Mobile it's SGH-M919 but on the back of my phone it days SGH-M919N so I need to get it back on the stock no root Metro PCS. How would I do it? Thanks.
If you had 4.3 firmware you can't reset the counter. All you can do is flash the latest firmware and factory reset
With 5.0.1 don't you factory reset then flash latest firmware (kitkat) ?
Pp. ?

I think 4.3 was what came with the phone a few years ago when I bought it. I flashed t mobiles stock firmware when they released 4.4 update and I've been on T-Mobile firmware ever since. I can't reset the flash counter then?

I'm not sure about that
easiest method is to just run kies, lol but I don't know if you want to do that.

Wouldn't kies be able to tell it's rooted though?
It doesn't matter, you will lose your root though.

Either way, it doesn't matter
Edit: you may be right actually, don't remember but I usually factory reset before flashing firmware which is the best option

[Q] How to upgrade from stock 4.3 rooted to 5.0

I've done a bunch of searches on both XDA and google but haven't been able to figure out exactly what all steps I need to take to upgrade from 4.3 to 5.0 while keeping root or re-rooting.
I have downloaded the 5.0 stock firmware for my SM-N900T and have odin on my desktop PC, but am afraid to flash it. Do I need to flash 4.4 first and then 5.0?
No you can go straight to 5
Try this rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3021965
If you flash from 4.4.2 to 5.0 via Odin, you may encounter a bootloop which means you'll have to boot into stock recovery and wipe cache. If that doesn't work, you'll have to try a full factory reset/wipe.

I am on rom N910PVPU1BOB7 - 5.0.1 ...

... what would be the best way to update this to OJ6 stock rooted rom or to the Note 5 rom?
The phone will not let itself update to the OJ6. I am going to have to flash something i am sure.
Anybody have a link i should flash?
Should i do all this with twrp Or will i have to Odin something?
Thanks for all your help
Can i just twrp the oj6 stock rooted deodoxed on it ?
I tried to update with the stock oj6 and it went from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 but stayed on the N910PVPU1BOB7. I need the software to go to oj6 not the bob7 rom.
Do i need to go to kit kat then go to the oj6? Or?
I tried twice and it would not change software bit did go from 5.0.1 to 5.1.1 .
Can anybody help?

EDIT: Just read your post in tx's thread. Follow the op in that thread and you'll get fixed up.
You can't flash a custom 5.1.1 rom over 5.0.1 without upgrading to 5.1.1 first.

Marshmallow back to 5.1.1

I have MM stock, but the hotspot now requires a reboot to get it working which is kinda a pain. Can I use this method to flash back to Lollipop? I saw a thread saying you cannot flash anything older than 5.1.1. That was an older thread, and basically he was told he can't flash 5.0.2 back on his S6 because he already had 5.1.1. Is there anything that will break if I put 5.1.1 after taking OTA 6.0.1?
thanks
Not sure but I am going to flash 5.1.1 now and see what happens, I loaded MM on my phone and it sucks down my battery so fast, I lost 20 percent in like 15 minutes, I have nothing on the phone but the OS so I am going back somehow will let you know. I go all day on battery on 5.1.1 so MM can wait.
<Back after flashing with odin>
Okay this worked but I set in odin to "NAND Erase ALL" and it worked I am back on 5.1.1
did either of you roll back to 5.1.1 without having to root? I don't want to void the rest of my warranty.

yes, odin the OL1 tar file, reboot to stock recovery, factory reset and you could boot into 5.1.1 without root.

Thanks for your reply.
aw darn, guess I am stuck factory resetting for now. Is there any way I can stop sprint from forcing this update again?
Also will it keep the newest radio if I flash the tar back to 5.1.1.?
i remember there was an option in system>update that prevent the phone from updating itself. im on MM 6.0.1 now so i cant have a ss.
when you odin the tar 5.1.1, the radio change back to 5.1.1 as well (you ask about baseband version? if im not wrong).

Hangs on setup

hey can anyone help me? i've recently reverted my note 2 back to stock via odin and everything seemed fine. When the phone booted and i went through the setup process it always hangs. No matter what i do it always hangs. I've tried reflashing it and rebooting it over and over again but it always hangs. anyone know why this keeps happening?
Are you flashing the latest stock ROM? You're performing a factory reset before booting the ROM for the first time?

Yup latest stock rom, and before i flashed via odin i deleted my previous rom via twrp and formatted internal storage so its 100% clean
I've downgraded a Note 2 sgh-i317m to 4.1.1 from 4.4.2 by flashing a stock 4.1.1 ROM from sammobile.com in order to network unlock the phone. Flashing the stock 4.1.1 ROM tripped knox and could be installed via Odin because the 4.1.1 ROM from sammobile.com did not contain a 4.1.1 bootloader so I wound up with a stock 4.1.1 ROM on a 4.4.2 bootloader. After unlocking, I flashed the stock 4.4.2 ROM again and the the phone worked as it should.
I'm not sure which phone you have and I'm not sure downgrading and upgrading will work in your case but it's something you may want to look into.

I've managed to get the phone working (N7100) and it seems to run fine on Nougat. I did some testing and indeed it would always crash on setup with kitkat roms. I wonder why this is the case....
It is strange that kit kat causes a problem.
Have you tried using a different version of twrp to wipe the system before flashing with Odin? Can't think of anything else that may solve the problem.
