I did a little research on the grip shells for the moto g (as i usually do before ordering something) and from others experiences with them it was pretty unanimous that the texture of the back was exactly the same as the black shell that comes with the phone.
Well i received it today and i was disappointed to find that it does differ in texture, the original black shell has a smooth soft texture whereas the black grip shell has an even smoother but tacky texture. The phone just feels a lot cheaper with the grip shell on and feels uncomfortable in the hand due to it's straight edges so i will be returning it
I just thought i would post this up for those of you who are interested in buying the grip shell now and expect it to be the same texture as the original black shell that comes with the phone, the one i ordered was dispatched and sold by Amazon so i doubt it's a knock off and the most plausible explanation is that Motorola may have just changed the design/materials
This is the exact one i ordered http://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorola-Gr...=1411745664&sr=8-1&keywords=moto+g+grip+shell
Yes, i feel the same.
In Indonesia, Moto G only gave a black back cover so i consider to buy the Grip Shell, but not from an authorized motorola seller. Not so expensive, $15. And yes the back material was not the same as doff finishing that i had on the original back cover. i doubt that my new grip shell was a fake. and another funny thing is sometimes i put off the grip shell to clean up my moto G and after 3 weeks, i got my grip shell stretchy. So i'm sure that the grip shell that i buy is a fake. China fake. and the most thing that i regret is the Lazada, authorized motorola seller sold grip shell for $13. i wanna kill myself
I don't know if amazon did sell the fake one but if you buy the original grip shell, you should get the retail package, like this

Same here.
I'm having a blue shell-cover from the german/austrian amazon.
I don't like it. The surface is too smooth (compared to the original cover) and one corner doesn't snap into place. Too loose.
Now I'm using the original cover again.:silly:

The packaging is exactly the same as that picture.
I have a theory but i really hope it isn't true. Could it be that the newer black shells (standard shells) have a smoother texture? Others have said that the stock black shell and the black grip shell have exactly the same texture so either the grip shells have changed or the stock shell has changed.
I have also watched videos with the reviewer commenting on the white shell and the black shell being the exact same texture too, i have ordered a white shell and a red shell so i will compare the texture (i really hope they are soft touch too). If they are smoother then it is possible that the black shell has changed which would be pretty annoying if i ever need to replace the current one

Yeah i have heard others commenting on the blue shell being smoother.
Is it just me or do the clips on the shells wear away pretty quickly? After 3x of removing the shell and clipping it on again it starts getting looser and starts to creak in the bottom corners.
I'm currently awaiting delivery of the red shell and the white shell, i will update my thoughts regarding the texture on here.

This is simply 1st gen cover (built late 2013) vs 2d gen cover (built at the beginning of 2014)
1st gen covers have a black logo (for black cover) and take fingerprints a lot
2d gen covers have a silver logo and are much smoother
@fedor:
My (stock)black shell is still fitting perfect.
The blue one was loose right from the beginning. Quality control before getting packed and shipped? I don't think so.
@matmutant:
Thx for the info.:good:
My blue one has the black Moto-logo and the date 12/14/13 is printed on the inside.
A carbonfiber-cover would be nice!

Hm that's strange, the texture does indeed differ between the 2 colours of the M logo (the black grip shell has a black M and the one that came with my phone has a silver M) but the one with the black logo is actually a lot smoother whereas the one with the silver logo has a more textured rubbery soft surface.
I actually received the red shell today and it looks very nice, i thought it might look a little pinkish from some of the reviews and videos but no it's just plain red. One thing that did disappoint me a little is the texture, while it's not as smooth as the grip shell it doesn't have that soft rubbery feeling of my stock black shell i would put it in between the black grip shell with black M and the stock black shell with a silver M in terms of texture. It has a silver M and it's build date is 01/04/14.
Still it's interesting to know that there is a difference in texture between the black shell with a silver M and the one with a black M, i will be sure to request the silver one if i decide to buy another black shell.
Now i just have to wait for the white one to be delivered.

How many times have you removed the black shell off of the phone? In my experience it's 3x or so before the bottom corners start creaking when pressed.
A carbon fiber one would indeed be cool but you could always just buy a d brand skin for the back. I'm in the UK and unfortunately it's unavailable here

About 5 times.:cyclops:
I may be doing it wrong then lol
I don't think so... That's a quality related problem.
But it's been the same with all 3 moto g's i have had, the bottom corners start creaking when pressed. I took it out today and i found the problem, the little very tiny clips at the bottom are very small compared to the new shells i have ordered, they are around half the size and barely visible. I don't know if this is the size it came with or if it's worn away after a few times of removing it and placing it back on.
Also i got my white shell today, looks great but doesn't feel like the black one either. It looks and feels almost like white chalk but it is pretty sticky when holding it compared to the black shell which means it is grippier but feels cheaper too.
I just have to decide whether i care more about the looks or feel.
I examined my blue shell and found the same problem. The bottom-right clip is too short which makes the shell loose in this area.
It was loose right from the beginning. So I guess it came to me like this right out of the factory.
I'll keep my stock-shell on the phone.
Right now I can only order shells with the black logo. :crying:
If I search for "second gen" shells, I'm getting the shells for the newer MOTO G 2.

But my question is @matmutant: Do you know where I can buy 2nd gen covers? Or the more grippy cover with the white 'M' logo? 'Cause I have been looking all over the internet and they only sell ones with black logos, as far as I can see. Even Motorola only sells the slippery ones, at least thats what customer support says..

No idea, looks like "2d gen" black cover was given with beginning of 2014 built devices, not sure if they sell some alone, on Motorola Website, looks like some covers have a white/silver logo (raspberry, spearmint and chalk?), some don't...
The best is to find a shop where you can touch before buying
Having now tried the black, the red and the white shell i have to say the black one is far superior IMO due to the material, with both the white and the red shell i couldn't wait to take them off and put the black one on as they just feel wayy too cheap. Add that to the fact that they both creak a little but in different areas i have to say I'm dissapointed with the shells.
My stock black one looks like it's developing creaks in new areas for some reason so i might take it off and place some tape under the cover to make it a luttle thicker so it doesn't creak when pressed

Thanks! Might try to get the spearmint one.. Since no store in the Netherlands is selling backcovers, so touching before buying is not possible for me

I think the black one with a silver logo is the only one with the soft touch rubberized texture (it's a shame that it's almost to find) the red shell i have was manufactured in 2014 with a silver M but it doesn't have the same texture as the black one with a silver M

You could always try and ask the sellers if the shell you will receive is the silver or black logo, all the one's on ebay have a black logo but they are just generic pictures so it is entirely possible that the one's they actually send have the silver logo.
I found one on ebay, it was an auction and the picture was of the actual shell with the silver logo brand new in box so i bid on it and won it for £3 (i was the only one to bid) with shipping it came up to £5 which is the price they are selling on ebay anyway so I'm happy i managed to buy the superior softer feeling shell. The old one was beginning to creak in all places after only a few weeks of ownership.
This one's going good for now, i only put it on today but so far i don't hear any creaks (unlike the coloured shells i purchased)

So... I have a Moto G 4G with a silver logo on the back. I though Grip Shell be as rubber as my original case, but... no? I am thinking to buy this original one http://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B00...liid=I1HCA7SD4HK0TS&ref_=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl but now I am wondering it isn't going to have a rubber plastic back

Hey folks. Frequent XDA forumer here and new owner of a SGS3.
Unfortunately, my story begins with tragedy. I got my SGS3 just a few days ago, and last night it slipped from my pocket while I was sitting in a chair and fell 2 feet onto concrete. BAM, hairline crack along the entire length of the front glass. I have to say, I'm not too pleased (my Epic 4G took worse tumbles than that without a case) and I'm ordering new glass from eBay to replace myself because the $178.61 Samsung quoted me, and the $150 deductable I'd have to pay Asurion are both complete rip-offs just to swap the front glass. I'd also just like to go on record and point out that Samsung really dropped the ball not rubberizing the back of the SGS3; the phone is beautiful but like a wet fish to handle. I suspect it wouldn't have slipped out of my pocket had it been rubberized like my Epic.
So, anyhow, enough of my bellyaching. Once I finish replacing the front glass, I need to get this thing some protection. I've looked around on eBay and seen a lot of candidates (both brands I recognize like Otterbox and UAG and otherwise) but I'd really like to hear from you guys what you think.
Here's what I'm looking for:
As thin as possible
Rubberized back or TPU shell
Has a kickstand
No extended battery
Let me know your recommendations!
EDIT - I've now been through all ~75 pages of the "Post a picture of your case along with your S3" thread and, coupled with the suggestions from this thread, I've got this running list going of options:
Qmadix Holster Shell Combo (Metalix product line)
SEIDIO ACTIVE with Kickstand
Case-Mate Pop! with Stand
Cruzerlite Spi-Force
Trident Kraken
Fosmon/GreatShield Hybrid (A lot of alternative styles with kickstand here)
GreatShield Snap Stand
Tomaxx Silikon TPU

Awesome, that's essentially what I'm looking for; some minimal protection that's rubberized and sporting a prop. My only complaint about those Qmadix Metalix models is that visually I'm not really digging the style. They're a little too flashy; I was hoping to see something just all black. But who knows, maybe I'd get used to it. I was glad to hear that the kickstand is very durable, as a lot of the no-name brands I see on eBay have props that look very flimsy.
Would love to see any other suggestions, and thanks again!
I have this: http://www.amazon.com/Aduro-Holster...qid=1352610675&sr=8-6&keywords=galaxy+s3+case
The case its self feels nice but it doesn't protect enough. My screen still broke :crying: with it because it only covers the sides and not the top and bottom. The kickstand is utter **** and falls over when you breathe because the kickstand barely sticks out.
tl;dr: it blows

Perfect. I didn't see anything like that on the Qmadix website so I didn't bother to look any further. Gotta love eBay!
EDIT - Ah, I see it now, it's listed separately due to being a holster/shell combo.

EDIT 2 - Though the prop looks a bit flimsier on this Case Mate model, it does look like it protects a bit better due to having an edge that comes around the edge of the phone, which does add a bit of bulk. Anyone have this case?

http://www.amazon.de/tomaxx-Halteru...r_1_39?s=ce-de&ie=UTF8&qid=1352640008&sr=1-39
Cheap, but at least it offers some kind of screen protection, since it envelops all sides of the phone. In my opinion a case that leaves top and bottom unprotected is just useless since those are the areas your phone will most likely hit when it drops.
And it protects the screen when you put it on a table with the screen facing down.
The case has soft sides but most of the back and three of the sides are hard plastic. Only the bottom left corner is the same "soft" material like the sides are. Buttons on the sides are encased too, so no lint or water will enter there. Still they are working pretty well, need a little more pressure though. At least your phone won't activate accidentally in your pocket as easily as it does without the case.
The soft material is some kind of hard silicone or maybe that's what they call TPA(haven't yet figured out what that is). It has a rubbery touch and makes the otherwise slippery S3 a lot saver to hold but it's not so much that you'll have problems slipping it in your pant pockets.
The kickstand only allows for landscape mode and looks rather flimsy but it's not. It stays in place when closed and has no problem holding the S3 when in use.
Trident Kraken. You can throw your phone like a football across concrete and It wouldn't damage your phone. Plus its has a kickstand and different color choices.

I'm probably going to order one of these to try out. Inexpensive as can be and gets good reviews.

I've been looking at that one, though it's a little chunky and kind of on the "busy" side. In terms of protection, it does look to be one of the best sporting a kickstand.

I have involuntarily TESTED these cases (SII and SIII) and they are truly protective. never a scratch on the phone whether I crunched it in the hatch of the minivan (ouch) or tossed it 15ft into the street when some wasps decided to teach me the error of my ways as I tried to photograph them
I avoided the stingers and learned my lesson. get a zoom lens hehe
I have the orange and blue one. $12.95 shipped. you can't beat it. they have TWO STYLES for the S3 so watch it. one has a oval around the camera one has an oval with a little "cut out" (you will see what I mean) because if you don't see the exact color combo you want you can buy 2 and mix and match parts I had to do that to get the same blue orange with my S2. so make sure the two you order if you do this are the same style.

its the only case I will use on a day to day basis because I DO NOT have $400 to replace this phone!!
I have one well over 18 months old. NO DEGRADATION AT ALL. the silicon has not gotten loose or sloppy. here is my S2 with the case that's been on it for over 1.5 years.
sadly the blue for the S3 is much much darker. (I prefer lighter brighter colors) so once I have more cash going to order a couple other blue ones and hope one of them is a "lighter" blue. (the S3 case is WAY darker than the picture shows a dark NAVY)

I read your post in the other thread with interest. As I understand it, you combined 2 different cases together (Blue and White and Orange and White) to make your Blue and Orange combo. Unique!
There does seem to be quite a few imitations of this particular style. The Fosmon and GreatShield models mentioned above appear to be virtually the same except for the branding. Either way, all reports of these models appear to be pretty favorable!
Cruzerlite spi (style) is the one you want. I have bought many of them (iPhone, galaxy s2, galaxy s3) and am satisfied with all of them. Grippy, slim, and kickstand works great.
You can get them cheaper on eBay

Excellent choice here ^^
I have purchased a ton of cases, this one is one of my favorites.
I ended up going with the Otterbox Defender when on the job,
and the Seidio Surface case when off work.
If I had to have the same case on all the time, and had to pick only one... it would be one of the Fosmon you link to.
After having tried several different screen protectors and cases here's what I've discovered.
Most of the gel cases turn rather yellowish (though there are a few that don't). Obviously the grippy feel will be there. The downside to that feel in my opinion would be when sliding your phone in and out of your pocket. I personally hate having to 'force' it down my pocket. I'm a heavy multi tasker so I'd have my iPod in my other hand with perhaps a book/newspaper (with headphones cable tangled all around) and my phone in the other. So keeping that in mind I love to whip out the phone and also likewise slide it out of sight rather quickly. The grippy feel is beneficial to prevent me from dropping the phone but I simply don't like it.
Following the above, my thoughts on 'full body protectors' are similar. They all have that tacky feel to them. From back in the day with my HTC myTouch 4G & LG Nitro I've tried Zagg, BestSkinsEver, BodyGuardz (my favourite), and Skinomi and I'd say they all simply peel. I cannot stress that enough. Regardless of the matte effect or absence of the tacky feel these protectors simply peel after lots of use around the corners. They do save the phone from drops because they do absorb the dents in a way. But nonetheless, they are 'temporary' in my opinion.
As for screen protectors I've found myself to prefer the Skinomi & BodyGuardz. It's because I found that these ones are missing the 'orange peel effect' and also the matte BodyGuardz is nice to the touch. The Skinomi was a little tacky and had a few streaks/lines but these disappear.
And back to the cases. The one I fell in love with was the one I got on eBay from smokeydiscount (mentioned elsewhere). I bought that case since it was cheap and so that I could use it temporarily until I got a better case. But just as several other members have said, it's actually quite nice.. It grips the phone well and taking it off is an absolute b*tch. It has a frosted aspect to it and isn't fully see through. But from a feet away you'd swear the phone didn't have a case on it. It's really minimalistic.
As per the screen protector that I decided on I went with the Spigen Glas.tr and it DOES work with the buttons as long as you're running the latest firmware. Even if you weren't (like I did initially) DON'T rip it off immediately. You can still download a ROM to your SD card, boot into Recovery and you'll notice the Recovery works fine under the glass. Then proceed to install the ROM and bam, all is perfect and fine.
The red skin I have was a little addition to give it a little flare and personality. It was also to follow with the red Beats branding (even though I hate Beats). But coupled with a red system theme and I'm in love with my current setup. I didn't use all the included skins and only used the top and bottom pieces. It was the red leather skin off eBay (I'll add the links later).
I attached pictures of my phone so you can have a look at what I've finally decided on.
EDIT:
I have added the following links for the accessories I'm using that are available for purchase. I have also added bigger images so the case can be seen more clearly. The thumbnails on XDA were resized and a lot of clarity was lost since I used PNG. It appears using JPEG doesn't fall under the max width and height restrictions so I uploaded JPEG instead to XDA.

Spigen GLAS.tR Screen Protector: http://www.spigen.com/cell-phone/ht...ctor-glas-tr-slim-premium-tempered-glass.html

I'm adding more info to the first post. I finally got over being a lazy ass and pulled the links I have on eBay. Just for you of course
I can't add links until I've posted 10 times or so and a moderator approves my account.. Harsh spam policies hahahah. Well, any moderator can see that this is indeed an old account. I just never posted, and lurked instead.
Hopefully I'll post the links tmr

Hahah yeah go for it! I'm still not satisfied with the front and may cut out the small speaker line. Or I may even take the front skin off. But yeah, for the back the top and bottom could be customized and so retain the middle metal plate. The color variance is subtle and nice. Glad you liked the back

yer i think it will look better cutting the middle bit out!
Im going to try putting the back skins on in abit, but i also have a invisible shield so might put that over the back then put my bumper
on over the top, see how it looks first!
Yeah, it's exactly what I did. I've been contemplating it for ages hahah. I guess you were motivation enough xD. I'll upload pics soon enough. Also good luck with yours, though I think if you put it on top of the cover it may peel. At least for mine I know the adhesive isn't the best and lots of pocket removal may cause peeling. Though that being said the front stickers are still holding up. Be sure to share pics of yours once you do it
Sent from my HTC One using XDA Premium HD app
I just uploaded new pictures of the new front with the sticker lines removed. I also uploaded more clear and brighter pictures of the back. The older ones were done under crappy lighting though the new ones are missing the 'Audio' part of the Beats branding simply because the case is slightly frosted and the camera I used is not the best (pictures taken with my old LG Nitro rear camera).
I also added the links to whatever I purchased and used.
I noticed many users thinking about purchasing the GLAS.tR and asking whether it will fit with the case or not. Well, as mentioned in the OP you can see I talked of how the current case grips onto the phone rather tightly. The case also curves onto the front, holding the phone nicely. And with the glass protector, there's still around a millimetre or more between the protector and the case. So I'd say it would work with if not all, most cases out there on the market. It's also not too thick. If you're going to get the GLAS.t then opt for the GLAS.tR . If it's not to your liking, switch to the GLAS.t . The beveled edges are nice, since pulling down on the menu won't bring the edge to your finger.

Okay, so I have a Slickwraps Black Carbon Fiber rear skin on the way, and several bumper cases coming in to match the skin. Everything was going according to plan, until my lovely dog, went hyper and wacked my pristine and perfect Black Nexus 5 off the coffee table and half way across the room with it's tail... So despite me babying my phone and keeping it perfect, it was all undone by the wag of a tail. :crying:
I thought it would be fine because it's thick carpet on the floor, but I guess the screen hit the corner of my entertainment center and it is utterly smashed. The phone still works perfectly, touch inputs and all, just the battle scars... I am just going to ebay it and buy a new one, as the cost of fixing the screen, plus shipping, labour, long time/turnover without a phone, etc. is not worth it. And the collection I'll be putting up on ebay should get me a good chunk back (phone+all accessories, 8 cases, Qi charger).
Why Doggy Why??

Anyway, I'm torn between getting a Red or a White phone as my replacement. So instead of choosing based on just colour preference (I like both so can't decide) I thought I would go by what phone would look better once it's been accessorized.
So given that I will have some bumper cases, quicksand cases, skin on the back for a while, and anything else I decide to buy down the road (like a tempered glass dog protector); What colour do you fellas think I should buy?
Those of you with Red phones, how do you think it look accessorized? Same for the White Nexus owners? Would you switch colours if given the choice?
I've had a white nexus 5 and now have a black.
I know this wasn't really your criteria but I personally do not like glossy black plastic. It scratches easily and feels cheap and ultimately would make me NOT want to ever use my phone naked.
That alone would be enough for me to go for the red variant. That's just me though
Hey mmmmmBacon f**k, I'm really sorry....to be honest I have the black one and I love it but the red/orange is awesome! Yeah, the glossy black plastic on the sides of the white phone are a bit of a downer. I really like how my black phone was completely matte throughout. Wasn't the biggest fan of it being a fingerprint magnet though, but the matte is so nice.

Yeah it sucks... After all the trouble I took to make sure my cases didn't even scuff up the corners, my dog's tail screws me over. But it is what it is, can't be prepared for everything...
I think I'm leaning towards the red though. Red and black colour combo is nice, and I think once I put the black carbon skin on, the red Nexus lettering would look really good. Along with a red bumper case, I think the look would be fantastic.

Awww dawg! Sorry that happened! I like your thought of red using a black cf to show the nexus logo. I think the outline and logo would look great.
I just use a clear case with my red one. I can't imagine covering it up personally. Though I have imagined getting a green skin for a watermelon type of look. But I ain't pulling the trigger on that anytime soon.

Can you throw up some pictures of that phone in a clear case? I really want to see actual pictures of how it looks.
As for the OP's question, go with Red! I got one last week and it looks amazing! I love how the red wraps around the sides and contrasts with the buttons and outlines the screen. It looks great.
As I'm sure you already know though, it isn't really red. It's kind of a florescent red/orange. Can I coin the term "rorange" nexus? Is there a better nick-name for it on XDA? I really would have preferred to wait and see if they come out with a blue one, but I got an offer on my old phone so I went with Red.
As far as case style goes, I've been debating 3 types.
The first is this Red Transparent/Matte back TPU:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Slim-Flexib...0023&prg=20140127091515&rkt=4&sd=390731416398
it happens to be only 99 cents for some reason. It's shipping from the other side of the planet, so It'll be here for about a month. They also have a grey transparent one that I have been considering.
The second is actually the quicksand cases you've recommended. The sand finish just looks so fantastic to me. I think the black or grey on the red nexus would look really good. The red would also be great, but I fear they would not match the color and it would look tacky. The problem for me is that I need drop protection. I really wish they had this texture in a full TPU or hybrid style case.
The third, and what I expect to be my daily driver is the Ringke Fusion hybrid. Black bumper with solid protection around the sides, and the rorange showing through the back. And if I ever decide I'm sick of seeing the back of the nexus, I can throw some picture or something in there.
Anyway, let me know what you ended up deciding and if you have any ideas on other stuff. I read on your tilted qi charger and the quicksand cases and both posts were extremely well written and informative.

Go for the red! It's absolutely amazing, a beautiful beautiful red-orange, trust me, NO pictures does its colour any justice. You have to see it to believe that there really is a Neon Red, because Google 'invented' it.
Personally I have a clear snap case, it really dulls the colour, so I'm going naked right now. Did drop my phone from about 2m (6 feet for you imperialists) high face on and the entire case popped off but phone was unscathed.

I am considering that, hell if I were living by myself I would sell it in a heartbeat. I don't know how my parents will react to it even though I bought it, and I doubt Google will replace just for a color, and if I sell it I don't know what steps to take and if I will get enough for a red one. I have so many probs it's better to keep it.

Oh well. There's always next time. I might consider the Moto X 2, no spontaneous color releases.

If you were to sell you Black one and buy a Red, you definitely wouldn't get full money back. As soon as it's sold to you, it automatically loses some value. If you've had it for a month or two, guaranteed you would probably drop $50+ when trying to sell it. Then there is the condition of it, if there are any scratches or markings, value drops further.

Appreciate the pictures! I don't think that's the one for me. I think I'm going to try the Black version of the Ringke Fusion. And see how that looks. Also have red transparent TPU case on the way from China that was only 99 cents.
Is it wrong that I ordered a Red one specifically for the fact that I am going to put a SW skin over it and wanted red NEXUS lettering to show through?!?
BAHAHAHAHAH it has begun!!
Also, the CDN play store says every colour/size of phone is in stock and ships in 1 - 2 business days. Now is a good time to order if you are on the fence!

So I was looking around and it turns out there aren’t very many reviews for bumper cases for the Nexus 5. I ordered a Bright Red 32GB as a replacement for my old Black 32GB phone that suffered from a Dognado. I also wanted to give a few @slickwraps skins a shot, so a bumper case was my only option. Now I know why there aren’t very many reviews for bumper cases… Turns out the selections for bumper cases on the Nexus 5 are quite crap… There are maybe 2 or 3 different bumpers out there and that’s pretty much it. They are also a mixed bag in terms of opinion here on XDA and elsewhere. But I did stumble upon these “lucency” transparent bumper cases. They’re pretty much available for every smartphone out there, so I figured why not give it a shot. (Last pics are my finished product with the red bumper + red phone + black carbon fiber skin!)
Knowing my problem with never being able to order only 1 of anything, I ordered all of the colours except for purple, pink, and somehow I missed black… I have since ordered a black bumper, once I received them and realized I didn’t have it… so that one’s still a few weeks away. Anyway, let’s get on to business.
Price:Currently $2.88 USD
Link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/3011059081...eName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Materials and Build Quality:
I was a bit hesitant when I was ordering them because I thought they were made entirely of TPU. I figured that since clear TPU tends to yellow over time, that I might be stuck with yellowed bumper cases. I went for it anyway though. To my surprise, the clear portion is not TPU but flexible and bendable transparent polycarbonate. Basically it is a harder plastic casing, with only the coloured portions being TPU. The closest I can describe it would be similar to a Poetic Borderline case, but instead of different colours of shiny plastic, you have clear plastic instead. In this case though, I think the clear plastic is a bit thicker as when you place the phone on its back, the camera is raised off of the table; while other people have said the camera was still in contact with the table in the Poetic Borderline case.
That brings me to the second point here. With it being made of a harder plastic, the drop protection is a little bit less than TPU. While I think it should be fine with a drop of maybe 1 or 2 feet, that would probably be the max though. Any higher, and the shock from the impact probably wouldn’t dissipate well and go right through the phone instead of being absorbed/dispersed/repelled like a normal TPU case would. This case should be able to protect from a light drop, but don’t expect the phone to survive a fall on the edges from higher than a couple of feet. Still, the drop protection and TPU lining on the front and back are perfect for my needs, and much better protection than the phone being naked of course.
The case seems to be built well and doesn’t feel cheap or flimsy. The TPU and clear plastic are molded together very well and don’t look like they will peel apart, tear, or snap. So the build quality of the bumper I think is actually quite strong and sturdy; pretty good for the price.

Fit and Finish:
There are pros and cons when it comes to the fit and finish of these bumper cases. So I’m going to break in into those 2 sections:
Pros:
Snug Fit: The case fits on perfectly. It is not loose in the case, doesn’t wiggle around at all, and feels sturdy and solid once it’s attached. There is no way that the case will be coming off of the phone unless you take it off yourself. There is also enough give on the sides so that it isn’t super tight, just snug.
Transparency and Contrast: This is personal preference of course, but I love the fact that the framing is clear and you can still see the back and sides of the phone through the case. I also like how it is just the bordering and buttons that are made of coloured TPU, so the lay on the table (face down) and raised back protection (for the camera) are both there. And the contrast between the clear + coloured TPU + phone make a very nice look.
TPU Protective Lining: I just mentioned this above, but it does serve additional purposes. Other than providing the lip for the front of the screen and back as well, it also serves to protect the clear plastic from making any contact with the surface you are placing your phone on. This protects the clear portion of the case from getting scratched up by dirt and debris on tables etc.
Also, the TPU lining protects the phone from getting scratched by the edges of the clear plastic. On the back of the phone, where the clear portion ends, the TPU acts as a cover over the rough edge of the clear plastic to protect the back of the phone from getting scratched by the case. On the front, the lip is entirely TPU, so the hooked edge holding the case on the phone is TPU and not hard plastic.
That brings me to the next point.
No Scratching: You might think with it being a mix of harder plastic and TPU that it may scratch the phone, but it won’t. All of the parts that hold the phone in the case are made of TPU. So it will pop in and out, and the only thing “rubbing” against the phone (corners/sides/etc.) when you put it on or take it off, will be TPU material.
Tactile Buttons: This is a concern that a lot of people have when they buy cases; is there still going to be feedback when the case covers the buttons. I am happy to say that yes, the buttons still have good tactile feedback when you press them. Using TPU over the buttons was a good idea, and the snug fit of the case means the TPU sits firmly over the buttons. Basically when you click, you feel it click.
Cons:
TPU isn’t neatly done in some areas: This is nitpicking a little bit, but there are some parts of the case where the TPU material doesn’t look as nicely finished. What I mean is there are a few bits of extra TPU material here and there, and a few bits remain from the moulding process. I guess it can be a bit difficult to melt TPU onto clear plastic and keep it super tidy…
Small headphone cutout: It is basically just enough to fit your standard jack from a set of earbuds, but don’t expect it to fit anything larger. It’s a relatively small opening. They basically made it "just enough" but nothing more.
Smallish USB cutout: The cutout is actually big enough to fit every microUSB cable I have, but the TPU lip over the bottom front of the phone gets in the way. It’s not really a problem as you can just lift the TPU up and plug in the cable, but it is a bit of an annoyance.
Colours: This isn’t really much of a big deal, but it is something to note. The dark blue isn’t really a dark blue (even though the pictures show it that way). It is more of a mix of purple and blue. The orange as well isn’t really orange; it’s more of a "peach" orange colour. Some people may like the colours that way, but for me I would rather have a real dark blue, and a real orange…

Pictures:
Anyway, on to the pictures! Since I have the majority of the colours, I might as well show pictures of all of them on the phone. These were mostly done on my Black Nexus 5, but I think they would still look pretty good on the white one as well. My Red Nexus 5 I think will be limited to only Black, White, and Red as the rest of the colors sort of clash.
** NOTE: The macro pictures really do a good job of highlighting DUST between the cases and the phone. You don’t see it at all to the naked eye.**
Green:
Dark Blue:
**Note: This colour looks dark blue in pictures, but is actually more of a purple blue.**
White:
**Note: You can see with the white case what I was mentioning earlier about some of the TPU not being neatly done in some areas.**
Orange:
**Note: While the pictures don’t really show it, this case has more of a peach colour than all out orange. It is orange, but “peachy” orange… **
Light Blue:
Red:

Conclusions:
I’ll keep it simple. I like them! They’re sturdy and fit well. And being clear really highlights the contrast between the phone and the TPU lining. :good:

While these cases aren't really appealing to me, I've gotta say I love your reviews. I hope you buy a whole lot more **** for the nexus 5 so we get more reviews from you ?

The best combination by far(red N5 with black carbon back and clear/red bumper!)
Why are you doing that? Now I want a couple of this bumpers! But I said that I'm going to stop buying cases because now I have 10.?

Haha, thanks bud! I think I'm running out of accessories that appeal to me though!
And yeah, the cases are definitely personal tastes. It's understandable that they won't suit everyone. I might have already cleared out ebay of all of the things I want.

Yeah the Red Phone + Black Carbon Fiber Skin + Red Bumper really is an eye catcher! Black and Red is just such a good combo.
I think you're suffering from the same thing I am. Accessory Addiction! hahaha. I have so many cases and Qi chargers it's ridiculous.
Thank You!! Looks Slick!
We need to get some Glow in Dark accents in there for that Tron look. Reach out to me.

Done and done! Sent you a DM. Much appreciated!
I have a red N5, I'm buying online from a China site, they get the stocks directly from the manufacturer so they're relatively cheaper, about USD$1.5 ea, but I think that most of the colours will clash with my red N5, so I got the red and black only.
Now I wish I had gotten a black N5 thanks to all your pictures......
Here's the full range of colours available on the Chinese site, if anyone's interested!

That's the thing about black though, it pretty much goes with anything. So it's kind of too easy! It's like you're cheating. Just be creative, try putting on some different types of skins for the sides and back. It can completely change the look of your phone.
I chose the red Nexus 5 as a replacement, because I knew I was going to be putting skins on the phone and wanted the letters to be red. I didn't actually choose it because I wanted a red phone, but the contrast the red letters make through different skins is a really nice look.
Also, if you want to give the link to the website you use for the cases, I can add it to the OP.
This combo looks good. It's the Light Blue Bumper + Red Nexus 5 + Black Carbon Fiber Skin. So you don't just have to stick with red and black.

No, they didn't let me change colour. I bought a new one. I have both a black and a red Nexus 5. My dog broke the screen on my black one (that's why I don't show the front of it), instead of sending it in to get the screen fixed,I ordered a red one as a replacement. It would have cost over $200 anyway with shipping+tax, and not having a phone for several weeks wasn't an option for me. I wanted red NEXUS lettering when I put a skin on it.

Just picked up the white and black ones. I have the alligator leather wrap on my phone, so hopefully these cases will make it look even better. It will be nice to have a little added protection, but keep the sleek look of the wrap.
I really like the way the white and orange one looks. These are pretty cool. But I've already got a "light" case - the Ringke Fusion. I'm not sure when I'd use something like this over the fusion - especially when the fusion has the cool back plates.
But either way, these are fantastic looking.
Great post, thanks for the pics!

I think they'll look good on your phone with the wrap. That's pretty much the reason I got these ones. I wanted to show the skin without adding too much bulk. It also helps that the bumper is mostly clear! A little bit of extra protection while staying for the most part, out of the way.

Yeah, they contrast really well with the black Nexus 5. They suit my needs quite well, generally minimalism. I'm not really into full cases. And with my hands usually moist a lot of the time, a clear backed case would be covered in fingerprints and smudges instantly. For me at least, you won't really notice the fingerprints on a bumper as much.
Also, I can use my magnetic car dock and still attach it right to the back of the phone without the need for a case + metal plate! :good:
Oh true, but despite the look, I still do want a little more protection. I've got a Trident case on the way that I'll use whenever I'm heading to work or just feel that I'll be clumsy that day, but I love rocking the thin case whenever I'm off. Using it in your car, as you've said, is totally a bonus worth looking over, though. Hmm..
Well, I'll pick up a few soon and I'll mess around with them. I know I'm going to be picking up a slickwrap lens skin soon, so maybe I'll get one of these to go along with it.

Yeah, being bumpers these won't provide lots of protection, just a few bumps on the edges and maybe a light drop. They'll never match a real case. I'm coming from Quicksand hardcases though, in terms of drop protection (where most times it's a corner or edge) these things are like tanks in comparison!
These bumpers are pretty cheap as well. So it's easy to just buy a couple and play around with them. If you don't really like them, they didn't exactly break the bank.
The magnetic car dock thing was kind of a bonus; I didn't realize it at first. Using the quicksand cases, there's a small round metal plate you put in between the case and the phone, then it attaches to the mount no problem. With the bumper and skin, the car dock just locks on to the metal plates meant for the Qi charger in the back of the phone. Super convenient. I just got in my car and thought crap... but I just stuck it against the phone and it worked perfectly.
This is the CD slot car mount I have: http://www.amazon.com/InfiniApps-Smartphones-Cradle-less-Quick-snap-technology/dp/B00DPMNNUO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1395707885&sr=8-1&keywords=infiniapps. There's actually a generic one on Amazon that is pretty much the exact same thing for $15.99.

Hm. I'll definitely have to look into that, as well. I have a carmount already - it's a home made one that functions as both a wireless charger and car mount, but I have to take my case off to use it. (I made the catch a smidge too small.) I actually use it in my home office (because it can swivel and I can have it standing and facing me next to my computer.) However, I think that it'll actually fit with one of these cases. Now I definitely want to pick one of these up. Thanks for both of the links. I might get a car mount to actually use in my car.

Oh nice. I'm not that handy when it comes to making stuff! I can put a skin on my phone pretty damn perfectly, but I think that's the extent of my skills.
I can't really use wireless charging in the car though. I use navigation and stream music pretty heavily and wireless charging won't provide enough current to charge it simultaneously while doing that. Also, the phone get's hot enough just using navigation + streaming music; if I added in wireless charging I'm pretty sure my phone would melt into a puddle.

It gets REALLY hot whenever I charge and do a conference/video call, so yeah, I wouldn't try it. It's not that big of a deal, either - it was really just adding clamps onto the side of a flat QI charger I had lying around so it would hold the phone (because I'm too picky and didn't trust the magnet.) I'll eventually post pictures next time I'm at my home office. But it's relatively simple in comparison to these fancy ones.
I do have a question regarding these cases, though. I know you mentioned that the case doesn't "feel" cheap - just how bendy is it? If I leave it around, will my wife's 1 year old niece bend it beyond repair?
This is a Review of HTC One (M8) cases from UAG. http://www.urbanarmorgear.com/collections/all#htc-one-m8
Actually, I have to apologize in advance. As part of my review work I'm doing in this forum, please check out a link in my signature, I receive a lot of accessories from different manufacturers. Since I just recently got Galaxy S5 for my wife, I receive a package with a number of UAG cases and they also included a nice selection for HTC One (M8). I don't have the actual phone, but figured take enough pictures for you to get an impression of this case. I have reviewed UAG cases for iPhone, S3, Note 2, S4, Note 3, and S5, and this has been my go-to case with every phone I get. So, I have not a single doubt in my mind the fitment of HTC One (M8) will be as impeccable as with any other previous UAG case I reviewed. Below is my review of the case impression which is a similar to S5 case review I just posted early today (applicable to M8 as well).
UAG definitely got this distinct industrial design look, which unfortunately has been copied lately by some low quality look-a-likes. With a lot of companies once they got a winning design, they just continue making the same cases scaled for the next phone, year after year. With UAG, they are constantly tweaking the design with new details to improve the grip, to have it thinner and more flexible while still retaining max protection, and even to improve the packaging. So starting with packaging, they finally got some refreshing colors to make their box more appealing. Of course, you still get a detailed description of the features on the front and on the back, including an official stamp of approval meeting MIL STD 810G-516.6 Military Drop-Test. It's about time to add this stamp of approval considering it has been already drop approved by thousands of it's users over the years, myself including. As a bonus, UAG also provided HD screen protector which I found to be a very nice gesture.
The case is very lightweight despite its composite design where hard outer PC shell is fused with a softer TPU-like inner soft impact resistant shell with a signature honeycomb pattern. The idea of such fused design makes the case thinner while still retaining a decent drop protection, and also adding a convenience of quick one-piece case removal without dealing with two separate shells. You also still have an enhanced corner protection which blends in nicely with the rest of the outline. One new additional element was added to the sides of the case in a form of a lower/upper grip pads on each side which haven't been present in the previous design. This enhances the grip and also makes sides look symmetrical. I found this design improvement to be very effective. Along with a sculptured industrial lines of the back design with decorative hex screws, UAG M8 case definitely has a much better grip. Although case feels slim, you still get the same rubber lip around the screen to lift the display with phone placed down or to provide a protection when dropped. Along with corner protection, you still get rear skid pads that allow phone to be placed on the back without any wobbling and keeping it from sliding on a smooth surface. And of course you get all the generous port openings to accommodate usb cables, over sized headphone connectors, camera, flash, mic, etc. Volume buttons (speaking from experience of all of their cases) have a very nice tactile feedback and can be easily located just by sliding your fingers along the side of the case. I also like how they put an inner trim around camera/flash opening to enable a glare-free flash.
Overall, I know it's hard to choose a case with every new phone because market is saturated with new additions almost every week. And most likely nobody gets just one case because we change it for different occasions or extended batteries, etc. But when you are making this deselection don't be fooled just by something that looks "cool", because at the end of the day the purpose of the case is to protect your phone. Well, that and also making it look cool at the same time But protection should be #1 priority, and if the case is made out of brittle plastic that will crack if dropped or cheap TPU material that will stretch and pull, or fused layers that will come undone - you might as well carry your phone naked. Otherwise, look for reputable companies that has been around for awhile, those which have a lot of feedback on Amazon, and those who don't just sell a case but actually offer a support to back it up. UAG is definitely of those companies, and I highly recommend and use their cases all the time.

Awesome, I bought the Clear one today and it should be here tomorrow so I'd love to see how its gonna look
Pictures attached. It's a really nice case, albeit a little difficult to remove (not as bad as Poetic Atmosphere for M7, though).

Thanks for the pics, I wish that last pic would of had the phone in it. The pics with the case on the phone were a bit dark but still gives me a good idea of the appearance
First of all: There already is a thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2714087&page=5
Secondly: The case is, compared to the one for the S5, worse in quality.
Just compare the volume rockers! The S5 has bigger and better built ones! All of the pictures are from @vectron!
M8
S5
Also, the solution to get the light from the IR diode from the M8 "through" the case is really cheap! They just cut a hole.
As a result, the button itself feels weird, and the one I had collapsed easily.
And now the worst part: How the phone is held in place inside the case.
They use thin rubber pillars to hold it for the M8, whereas they mold the softer plastic nicely into shape.
M8
S5
I really don't know why.
Thank you @vectron for the images from this, and the S5s thread.
Cheers!
This case looks pretty good, despite some of its obvious flaws.
However, I had to buy an Otterbox.
I don't even like the otterbox for the m8, I think it looks plain and boring, and it just covers up the beauty of the m8. But I work in a dirty/dusty place, and I NEED the rubber port covers to keep the crud out of my headphone and charger ports. On my old phone, I had to use a toothpick to dig out the bull**** that collected inside my ports. For some reason, otterbox is the only company that seems to be using port covers.
If the UAG had rubber port covers, which I don't understand why it doesn't. I probably would have bought the UAG instead.
Hey everyone. I also received the UAG case for review on my channel and website. I did notice the volume rockers were made of a different material than on the Galaxy S4 model from last year, but I think it's due to how the buttons are on the M8. The material and everything is still very solid and high quality though.
If you have any questions about the case feel free to let me know! :good:
I have the all black. It looks great but I hate how slippery it is in my hands. I miss my Otterbox where just enough soft rubber stuck out from the inner sleeve that it really stuck in my hand.
Just got my clear UAG case! Hands down best case I've owned. The gunmetal color of the m8 shows through the back of the case and looks amazing.

Got the clear one yesterday here are some pics.
That clear UAG one would have looked great if they had repositioned their logo. The OCD in me would not be able to take how the vertical logo covers the horizontal HTC logo.

I got this case today on my mail (Rust Color). Brought it on Amazon last Monday.
I must Say the Case feel great on the phone. One of people biggest concerns with the first batch of cases was that the camera ring wasn't a perfect fit. I can happily say this have been fixed. My brother have a UAG on his S3, My wife have one on her S4 and I can say that this one feels as sturdy as the S3 and S4 version.
Now, some pictures for your pleasure:
Hmm, can't see the pics

The trident aegis series also has all ports covered, and for phones that have speakers or openings on the back they put a screen/mesh filter over those as well. I had one for an S2 back in the day, and I loved the case. Only reason I don't have them for my current phone is that I got hooked on kickstand cases, and they don't have those in anything but their defender equivalent case.
I'm debating between the clear uag or rust case and I'm wondering does the flash glare with either of those colors? If someone could test that out, I would definitely appreciate it.
