[Q] Ideal camera settings? - T-Mobile HTC One (M8)

The camera on this phone is certainly not bad, but does overexposed a bit in regular to bright light. Wondering if anyone has suggestions for average, day-to-day use settings? I'm not a camera-tech-spec guy
Thanks in advance!

There is no ideal camera shot mess with settings and find the one you like I could tell you my preferred settings but it would be pointless

Camera TERRIBLE indoors?

Hi all,
Quick question about the quality of images on my HOX.
They are absolutely terrible, for a HOX, especially when one of their major selling points was the apparantly, amazing camera?
The quality of images out doors, is acceptable, but again for a camera such as the HOX I think they should be better.
But indoors, they are almost un-viewable they are that bad.
Im no camera expert, and don't know much about what to do to produce a good image.
Has anyone else experienced terrible HOX images?
Is their anything I can do to improve the quality of the images?
Thanks all !
In my experience indoor performance of the One X camera is as good if not better than other well regarded smart phones out there. I have personally compared indoor performance against the Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 4S; picture quality in most cases turned out to be better than 4S and on par with S3. However, having said that, don’t expect the quality of a DSLR or even a cheap point n shoot compact camera.
What exactly is the problem with your indoor photos? Are they too dark, noisy or blurry? When taking photos indoors try to hold the phone as stable as you can, because under low light conditions the shutter stays open longer to take in more light, this causes even the slightest movement to make your photo very blurry.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I compared with the S3, and the HOX looked like a disposable camera compared to the S3.
Indoors they look very pixlated and blurry as you said.
I hold it as steady as my hands allow me.
Im not sure what noise etc is.
Thanks for the reply mate, is there anything I can do to improve?

Same issue here on my gf's htc one x.
Blurry pictures. Setting iso to 800 manualy helps a bit but still not like my note 2.
And the low light setting I have been reading about is night setting I presume?
My note 2 has a low light setting and with it you make awesome pictures.
Doesn't work like this on one x.
Real shame because outdoor pictures are great.
If you advertise with it make it f***** work.
Focus is wierd to. Note 2 flashes long for focus then again short and adjusted during the shot.
The htc focusses in darkness then flashes and takes the shot.....no wonder they're out of focus.
Anyway we are not happy. Especially when we heard they don't take it back.
Now she's stuck with a crappy indoor phone camera for 2 years.
Htc better update on this issue quick

Same here, gutted.
Can't understand how they can advertise a man jumping out of a plane with it, and getting focused stunning shots, but yet us trying to take a picture of a dog in our bedrooms is not stable enough and comes out blurry.
Yet again, HTC successfully blags its consumer base.
Anything we can do?!

I called with htc customer service and they said if enough complaints come in that they'll update on the issue.
So report it and hope for the best
Edit: I had mine replaced with a galaxy s3.
Better flash, more functions ( that actualy work and do what they should do. )
Very sharp indoor pictures.
With flash is perfect but without and low light mode is perfect too.
I'm just gonna stick to samsung phones from now on.
Save myself the trouble of going through countless discussions with htc and customer service to replace a phone.

Note II Camera (Your Best Settings &/or Preferred App)

Okay... I must state that I came from a HTC One X. Awesome camera out of the box. I honestly always heard everyone (reviews) saying how good it was but never really realized it till switching phones to the Note II. Now I understand.
So with that said; the Note II does okay but seems more blurry to me. More like a iPhone 4 (girlfriend had so only iPhone comparison).
The photos are okay, just not as clear as I want. The photo's seem to look okay scaled down but when looking at full version (not full screen) on Laptop .... it shows low quality.
I'm probably not explaining it well. Sorry
So.... I do have some questions here. Please note I know that these are only opinions. Not looking to bash any apps or settings. Please bring the positive.
What App do you prefer...what settings do you prefer in stated App? to get the best quality photo? Stock? third Party? etc.
-------------
I am currently using Stock app
Burst shot = on
flash usually off, but sometime on
No effects
No scene mode
Exposure value = 0
Auto Focus
Resolution = 3264x2448
White balance = Auto
ISO = Auto
Metering = Center weighted
Auto Contrast = Off
Anti Shake = On
Image Quality = Superfine
Would it help to turn on or off any of these settings? What has been your best results?
Thx!
Is burst shot the same quality as single shot. I Googled it but got no answer. I think it may have to do with how the signal is processed and of course the sensor size. As the sensor is opviously very small it can only capture a little light. The phone compensates with a higher iso causing grainy pictures. Do some comparisons in daylight add compare them.
It could obviously be as you stated. The One X has a better camera.

I have been playing around a little bit this morning.
Found that HDR is not bad. Helps a lot indoors.
Also Many shots were the best in "Low Light" mode while indoors.
Agree that I was probably spoiled with the HTC One X.
Just need to keep playing around and use more. with the One X I was able to just point and shoot. Didn;t really have to use any special options. LOL
Every phone camera sucks, , Why spend so much time on it lol.
Antishake adds considerable amount of noise to the picture. This is not a mechanical antishake like on a dslr lens. Its a software elemination. However "camera 360 " app and some other apps dont add noise when you use this feature cuz they only let you take take the photo when your hand is stabilized. I suggest you not to use antishake with stock camera app unless you want lower picture detail.

Thx! I will turn off the Anti Shake and try it out. Good info...

The higher the resolution is set to the less noise there will be.
The more light there is where you are taking pictures or videos the noise will be less.
The better the quality of the camera is it will also produce less noise.
Good Luck!

This isn't always true... I've found that 6MP widescreen takes the best photos... I've compared them side by side and 3.1 and 6MP generally take less noisy photos than the full 8MP resolution of the sensor - especially in low light conditions.
HDR will be your friend once you learn the conditions it works best in. Plenty of videos or there on educating how to use a camera, same rules apply: be it a digital camera or smartphone camera.
T-Mobile Galaxy S 3, stock and rooted.
you need to have very super steady hands to use the HDR option. Just mess with the cam color filters and increase the resolution to the max quality
I haven't got HDR ever working on my S3, I can't even manually adjust the exposure. Is it just a problem with AOSP roms?
i used HDR setting on TW roms and i see no difference on the pictures....
maybe im doing something wrong. lol

Take a picture of a tall building with the sun right behind it, you'll notice a difference alright... although you might not like the difference at all.

[Q] Lg G3 Low light Video test

Guys,
Just a quick q before I go and purchase this set. Is the G3 plauged with the same laggy low light video recording like the G2? That was the one thing that put me off the G2 big time coming from a Galaxy S4. I have been searching online to see a low light video test recording but I have been unable to find one. Everyone keeps talking about the camera, low light shots and laser focusing, but no one mentions how good or bad it is in low light video recording.
If you own one already, can you please shed some light? Or better yet, can you post a video somewhere? Something with a lot of moving subjects in very low light. This would really be useful to me. I know it does 4K too, but not entirely sure of how good that is either. A video of both would be great.
Furthermore, what is your take on this phone? How much better is it compared to the G2? I have had a G2 for 6 months now. The battery life is the best I have experienced but it gradually declines in strength or maybe its the amount of apps that I keep putting on it. I have done a full reset twice to fix the problem, but the battery is not as good as it was when I started using the phone. I wish there was an app that would give true usage of the battery, I dont trust the android battery app.
Anyways, lets focus on the most important questions, whats the video like in low light?
What I have heard the G3 is better in low light but still have the watercolor effect. The shutter speed is a bit lower than G2 some reviwer said. I'll think that low-light is an Achilles for most cameras with the same sensor, optics and pixel. This is what HTC wanted to fight with the 2um sensor and Apple with 1.5. Still it's more or less the same technology as before and the results should be in line with that. Better software and other ways of doing stuff like focus but the baseline sets the restriction.

The best part is it can all be edited and configured!
Will be ditching my S5 for the G3 ASAP! and I'm a heavy camera/video user.
I'd like to know the answer too..not just about low light, but in general, regarding the video.
Don't forget, we have a modded camera.apk now, thanks to Gishnu and Hendrickson.

It's low light 4K video of Hong Kong, hope this helps.
I'm curious about it too, and also if it can cope with very high volume recording, like videos of concerts and stuff...

Google Camera - HDR+ or HDR+ Enhanced?

Hi everyone,
After a stint in the world of OnePlus, I'm finally back on Made by Google Device, and am wondering what to use for photos in Gcam. HDR+ or HDR+ Enhanced. From an initial trial, there is a definite difference, but deciding what is actually better is a bit hard for me right now. Any advice? There is an older thread about this somewhere that never delivered a conclusive answer.
HDR+ standard seems a bit faster and brighter IMHO... but Enhanced might have better colours...?

No idea, but I use HDR+ Emhanced, because in reality if its not better then why the f is it there. Lol
Honest question, are any third party cameras better than the stock camera? I've always assumed the stock camera was as good as it gets - especially using nightsight.
Edit - I guess by gcam you all really meant the stock Google camera. Sometimes I'm just slow....... I had to change my settings for this option to show up.
From what I can tell, HDR+ enhanced allows colors to pop a bit more with its dynamic range. However, as a result of this, it takes slightly longer to take the photo. I think it's best used in situations with lots of light. Anything with the non-ideal light tends to not have an advantage. I could be wrong on all of this, but those are just my impressions.
With HDR+ it takes multiple underexposed photos and combines them to increase dynamic range, this is faster than the classic method but cant create as strong an effect. With HDR enhanced your taking standard, under, and over exposed photos and combing them which is the classic method and how most phones do it. This will give better/more enhancement but is slower as it requires more processing time. You'll have to experiment to decide which works better for you. The only thing I notice is taking pics of kids or other fast moving targets can go better with HDR+ when taking multiple photos quickly. Other than that I get what are sometimes what I would consider over processed photos either way. Any how, that's whats going on with the two settings.
