Tab S - Moving apps to SD Card - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys,
I have Galaxy Tab S 8.4 16Gb which I installed SanDisk 64Gb Class10 sd card. To save space on internal memory, I move most of the application to SD card by going to Settings ? Application > Application Manager, and move the apps to SD card on by one. Now When I installed Dead Trigger 2, then moved to SD Card, I noticed that it didn't move the entire apps , rather its just move little bit of the apps to SD as below.
Total 460 MB
application 440 MB
SD card app 16.38 MB
Data 256 KB
SD card data 3.59 MB
In this case, only 16.38MB was moved to SD Card and 440MB still retain on a 16Gb internal memory.
My question is, this really the case where you cannot really move the entire application? I noticed most application I moved to SD Card doesnt really move the entire application.
Hope somebody can enlight me with this matter.
Thanks.

Actually I found this problem in my device too. Really it is kinda weird, cause usually it should move most of the stuff to SD Card! Usually all the games caches were downloaded to SDCARD too, now - not. I think that it's just a firmware mistake or something.

This really unfortunately is how things are in Kitkat, should get better in android L.

First, is your tablet rooted?

If yes, Download foldermount pro
And also download the sd fix for kitkat from playstore if you are running 4.4 om your device.
That all, you will be able to mount all your games to sd card.

This is what i did for my Note 3 and Tab S 8.4
And also the only reason i root is to move OOB to external SD with FolderMount
Once rooted, of course installing more rooted app.

There are too many restrictions in kitkat. So with does too apps you are good to go. I have upto like 30 HD games on my phone and still counting.

I just use Folder Mount and that works perfectly. A few extra seconds work at each game install and all my space troubles are away.

folder mount is perfect

Unfotunately, both my note 3 and tab s 8.4 is not rooted. And i am afraid to do so. For one, I might break my devices, secondly it might void warrantty , also i might loose some features that these devices has.
Your thoughts please.

Please try this:
-> Setting
-> Applications
-> Application Manager
-> SD Card
Click the application you want to move to SDCARD, you will under " App info", "Storage", there is a option "Move to SD Card".
It let you move the application you selected to SDCARD. But not every application supported.
Hope this help.

Move apps to external SD card

Hello.
Is there a app that moves the data to the external SD card?
I tried App2SD, and it didnt work!
I emailed the creator, and i got a replay:
http://android.a0soft.com/?url=App2SD.htm
I cannot find the "Move to xxx" button from application detailed information window.
Moving app to SD is handled by Android. App 2 SD app only provides an UI for you to manage it. Currently, Android only supports the primary external storage for App 2 SD. If the device does not have a real primary external storage or the primary external storage is emulated from the internal phone storage. Moving app to SD function will not be supported by Android system. It's the limitation of hardware. Please get more information from device manufacture.

I do have rooted my Note 2, so maybe another program can do the trick?
You can not move your applications to external sdcard.
Two workarounds (need root)
1.google for bind directory (tested on s3 and had problems)
2.swap your int sdcard with ext scdard.thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1931500 (also needs custom kernel)

Actially there is one way.
You need root.
Download titanium backup pro, and you can move ALL user apps to sd card. :good:
Yea... but what SD card... i want the external one, not the small 16 gb one.
Newest edition of Spotify does not allow us to choose what SD card we store the music on.
Total failure.
Testing Bind Directory now.

Is it really that simple? I mean have you tried it, and do the games play properly without lag? If someone can confirm this you'll make my day. I have had bought titanium pro since my old GS2 days.
Titanium backup pro can really move the apps to SD for note 2? I have tried moving about 30 apps including some big size games and I don't see any different in my phone storage after moving....

From what I've read about the S3, no. That's why I was skeptical. From what I've read, you either have to use directory binder or install a mod which changes the internal storage with the sd card.

So, there is no way to do it? I really dont understand why you have an external SD that you cant used for apps or even storing Titanium backups to the EXTERNAL SD. This, as well as not being able to connect to my Hidden WAP is just about the straw that drives me back to the IPHONE. At least I know I can connect to my corporate Wifi and if I get 64gb then I truely have 64gb. Someone please ease my pain.
I think the only option for now is to use directory bind until someone made and app2sd which work for note 2 platform.

Was reading this thread and thought I'd let you know that you can choose the directory in which Titanium Backup uses to store your backups. in the backup folder location, in the preferences for Titanium Backup.
I've been having issues with directory bind. I'm going to get a larger sd card and use the swap method. I like the Note 2 to much to want to return it
Seriously people directory bind is very easy to use, just once, set the mnt/extSdCard/android/data directory from your external sd as the source, and storage/android/data as the target path.. then manually move the desired app data to the sd card folder, easy

I would really like to know this, too!!
I've partitioned my SD (30 GB Fat32 & 2 GB ext2) but there is still no "move2sd" within Titanium.
I also can't find this new partition within my "File Expert" (rooted)
Can some1 please help me??

i think you cant create ext2 partition on your external sd. Dont try that on your phone, do it with a sd card reader and pc. Then install this app (link2sd), give permission, choose ext2, reboot, and LİNK your apps to sd. Dont (also you cant) move apps. Just link... Works perfectly on my international n7100.

[Q] Move apps from phone storage to USB storage (internal sd card)

Hi,
I have Android 4.1.2 and trying to move apps from phone storage which is only 2GB to USB storage (11.25 GB). But for every app, movable or not when I try to move - hit the "move to sd card" button- . It says "unable to move app. Note enough storage space".
I don't have external SD card right now and I only want to move them to internal. Do you know what can I do?
Thanks

See idk because when I do app to SD on my ROM it goes to my USB storage, which is the internal SD card, 11.9gb, not to my external SD card I have to manually put the apps on external if I want so theoretically it should be putting them there by default, what ROM are u on? Are u rooted? Ever use an app like storage swap or anything? Shouldn't be installing apps in ur system partition, 2gb, that should only be for system apps..?

What I'm saying is I don't know because ur system, no matter what shouldn't be installing user apps in the system partition, my best advice would be to back up what u want from the phone and use Odin to do a complete wipe and unroot to stock 4.1.2 ROM, this will erase all data on the phone and restore it to stock status, from there u can reroot and use TB to get ur apps back, somewhere along the lines it sounds like ur system got confused or something because it shouldn't be putting anything in that 2gb partition, that's only for system and system app data not user, that's the whole reason to have it partitioned off, if it was me that's what I would do, just start over and see if that was it, sorry wish I could help more but I don't have ur device in front of me so I don't know

Thanks for your reply. I have mounted an external sd card and using link2sd to move apps to it. One thing I noticed that with sd card mounted, when I move apps to external sd card, some part of the app moves to the usb storage and also the app size increases after doing so. However, still there is no direct way of moving/installing apps to usb storage without an external sd card.

I tried to use ROM Toolbox's app manager to move apps to the famous "internal SD" of the GS2.
When I move apps to SD (without an actuel SD card), I get no error but the app seems to have simply vanished from the phone with no memory actually freed on the system partition. Does someone understand what happens ?

What is your ROM? Most of my apps go to internal sd storage. The only apps that are on internal are system/came with ROM. I do believe data resides internally on the 2gb partition, but rest is on internal SD. Perhaps, you need a fresh install.

Because I am sure I am not clear, internal partition = 2gb phone storage/internal storage, internal SD = 11.29 GB SD that resides on phone. My apps are going to internal SD when I select SD in ROM toolbox options, NOT to the removable external SD card I put in my phone
The problem with other app2sd apps is that they try to install to external SD, hence why your apps disappear, (for those apps, you need ext SD partitioned with iirc ext4). Try romtoolbox first, open, go to configure apps2sd, and it should recognize your onboard SD card)

Well, it is possible it is the stock ROM. You could try a
factory reset in your custom recovery and see what happens or full wipe and install a custom stock ROM, (backup 1st, make sure you have appropriate recovery version for installing ROM, etc).

I am using Directory Bind now, which can't seem to work with all apps, so I am wondering if anyone has come up with or knows about a more perfect solution...it was no problem with Android 2.3 on my old rooted phone, but no so with this rooted Tablet...

The problem is due to move to sd option - when you move apps to SD card using move to SD option what is happening is only some part of app is moved to external SD card and some part remains in the internal memory...so when you switch off your mobile the external sd card automatically gets unmounted & all the apps which has link to it gets broken & shortcuts gets deleted. when you switch on your phone the external sd card gets mounted & you can find all your apps in the main apps section but the shortcuts no longer appear & you have to again create them.:crying:

SD card corruption when moving apps

Every time I move apps from my device to my SD card, my card is corrupted and can't be read, either by my Note or a pc. I have to reforemat and then all is good again (except for the stuff I lost). It seems that truly, the only thing the SD card is good for, is media.
Has anyone else had this issue? Is it just me?
I'm using a SanDisk 32g card in an unrooted Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition running 4.4.2
Thanks

Im pretty sure you cant move apps to sd card anymore cause google changed a whole bunch of things with kit kat and they want you to use cloud storage. If you were rooted there are apps that you can use to do that. I have 128gb card with all my apps and data on cause im rooted and use a app called folder mount.. you can search around but im pretty sure im right.

I still think that with kit kat they changed permissions but here are my opinions. Maybe SD card is corrupted . Does the SD card work on anything else? Maybe try to reformat it. Did you buy on internet? It could be fake. I had bought a original SanDisk on ebay but it was a bootleg one and it worked fine for a while then I kinda had same problem as you are having. After getting one from best buy no problem since.

Here is just something i found real quick on internet. Its located here http://www.makeuseof.com/answers/can-free-space-phone-running-android-kitkat/
There are many different things that you can try to do in order to reduce wasted space, but the limitations are great, especially after 4.0.4. Most, if not all, Android phones are not allowed to move apps to an external SD card, or in some cases, even the internal SD storage that may be partitioned off for user storage (separate from phone storage usage used by the system and apps). This is a major issue on phones that have a small amount of internal storage space, such as 4 or even 8GB. There is a way to enable the movement of apps to the SD card, but the phone must be rooted, the SD card must have two primary partitions, and apps like Apps2SD III or Links2SD should be used (unless you are comfortable i
The Move to SD in the app manager is actually still moving to a sectioned off portion of space within your internal memory.
It sounds like this might not be properly mounted.

Only thing i found was:
"Settings"-"ASUS-Usersettings"-"App-Insatllation"
There you can choose if you prefer internal or external storage for App-Installation. Maybe something you've been looking for
OK. Thanks for the quick response. I just ordered the US version in 16GB, so will put in a 64 GB card.

The Apps settings menu has a "movable" list next to downloaded, running and all.
I don't have an SD card so I can't take any action on the apps listed there. But it sure looks like you'll be set.
I did this last night. I moved my apps, music, and books to a 64gb sd card. However, some apps were not able to move to the sd card. Not sure why but it said it was not allowed and these were third party apps. I used wondershare mobilego to move the apps and moved the music/books by plugging in my sd card to my pc.

You need root and Link2sd Plus.Create a second partition (ext 2,3 or 4) on SD Card and you can link almost everything on that partition. But you can move/link the apps and games after you install them on phone.
Can't show screenshots ,coz i am new member ,sry.
