I have been using the sprint hero for a while now and after flashing the rom i like it works really smooth (for the most part) took a trip to Houston and the maps app really helped out down there. But one thing that really bothers me is how sometimes running just one app really slows down the phone. For example i took a trip to Houston and was using the navigation app downtown we were looking for a restaurant then all of a sudden my phone froze for like 6 seconds and then started ringing i ignored the call cause we're trying to find our way downtown and then it takes another 20 seconds to pull the app back up. its kinda hard to describe the exact scenario but it just seems that when im just messing around with it its fine but when im really needing to do something it always seem to take forever. sooooo.... my bdays coming up and my fiancee says i wanna get you that phone you want but before she gets it i wanted to ask people that use it. is it going to work better then the hero in these kind of situations? the last thing i was wondering? is the battery really that bad? i work at a hospital and usually pull 12 or 10 hour shifts and i dont want the battery always ending up dead.
Any phone is going to lag when you are using an app that needs both data and GPS (navigation) and you get an incoming call. It has to shut down the data and gps then answer the call before your caller goes to voicemail.
Obviously the EVO smokes the Hero in performance. I was running my Hero @710 w/jit before switching, it ran fast and good but nothing like the EVO.
If you know how to use your phone then you can easily get a day out of the battery. Just don't expect it to do all the cool things it can do all at once and also be conservative with the battery.
My opinion? Anyone who is considering getting an EVO should STOP spending their time considering it and go get one!!
I'm not a fanboy, I'm a fan. It's a remarkable device and I love it.
Understand that the Hero is a phone that was very good for it's time. Processing power has gotten much better but phones will not be instant. The EVO has some times where it goes slow. The iPhone has times where it goes slow.
To be honest, your phone was doing multiple things at once. You got a call during a time the Navigation app was doing its thing. A Nav app has a lot of things to process (your location, speed, calculators for time, etc.) and then here comes a Call - the phone has to process incoming call information and various other things.
If you want the EVO, sell the Hero. It will be an upgrade. For sure.
In terms of battery, turn off crap you don't need and you should be fine. I would imagine at the Hospital you aren't browsing the web your entire shift so it should be fine if the screen is off.
The Battery life on the Evo is good if you are using it for texting, talking, even playing an occasional app or two. While you're at work I assume at most you'd be using it for medium use at which you'll have no problem battery wise (That did improve with the Froyo update)
The running of applications and switching from one section to the other is very much faster than the Hero. If you're coming in with slightly better expectations for the Hero use you'll be pleasently surprised at how good the phone reacts. Also if you are used to flashing your hero there are a lot of Roms that you can get that can actually make the battery life AND the speed of the phone improve all in one Rom.
It's really a no brainer. I'd naturally go with the Evo. There is also the Samsung Epic that you could go with if you're looking to get a physical keyboard. But typing on the Evo is 10 fold better than typing on the Hero. Good luck.

I recently upgraded to the Galaxy Nexus from my modded thundebolt running Cyanogen, both on Verizon.
This phone despite rave reviews has been a huge disappointment to me.
Battery Life This is an issue highlighted on this forum and all over the web. This phone's battery life is significantly worse than the Thunderbolt was out of the box. The latter was solved with a root and cyanogen install. I certainly hope the same can be said of the Nexus. As a medical professional, this device is simply unusable. I am currently getting less than 4 hours. The device is always running hot, as if some program is chewing through the battery, but a fix is elusive at this point. I have tried two nexus phones at this point.
Speed Another big disappointment. I have once again tried two devices, both with the quick OTA update. The device is extremely sluggish in virtually every regard. Opening programs, sliding through menus. I have actually tested my thunderbolt against the nexus on opening and running many different programs, from games, some of which are unplayable on the Nexus (may be an ICS issue) to opening simple email like gmail. The Thunderbolt is significantly faster and smoother. I admit I am a bit mistified by this one, hearing so many with rave reviews of the speed. I am not sure if this is because others are coming from much older devices or if there really is a speed issue. The Thunderbolt was clearly much faster in every regard. Again two separate
Vibrate This is a major issue for me, being in the medical profession. The device doubles as my pager, and missing pages can obviously be dangerous to my patients. I have again tested and confirmed this on two separate Nexus devices.
Voice to Text The google engine that transcribes on the fly only works with the android keyboard. Further, I have found it to be much less accurate than my thunderbolt using flex t9. I even tried the latter on the nexus, reproducing many of these problems. Not sure if this is a microphone issue on the nexus.
Games Some are simply unplayable. This may be a native problem to ICS, but my favorite game, frozen bubble plus is no longer a viable time waster.
Camera The concerns about this are well justified. It does fine in sunlight, but anything with a flash is absolutely horrid and unusable. For those who enjoy sharing a quick photo via facebook, texting, whatsapp, picasa etc, you are seriously going to be disappointed. The focus is inconsistent, and the flash over saturates the pictures. Major step behind the Thunderbolt.
There are other annoyances. Long pressing a text box allows you to change input method.
I haven't figured out if you can assign an on screen "hardware" button to a task by long pressing like you can on the thunderbolt. I have the find key on my thunderbolt assigned to the voice command. So I can long press on it and text, email, search directions etc with one simple long press. I don't see an easy way to do this on the Nexus, another major inconvenience.
In fact the only way I see to use the voice capabilities is to keep the google search bar on the home screen. I don't see the program even listed in the apps.
Perhaps many of these issues can be addressed in an upgrade, but this device's starting point is very disappointing to me, worse than the bolt.
4 hours?
I don't know what to say to any of that.
First, I easily get 18-25 hours DAILY depending on how much I use the phone. And I'd like to point on that I am a HEAVY texter (girlfriend ). Maybe you have the LTE version? I'm sure you would get ****ty battery life on LTE all the time and inside of a hospital with low reception.
Second, this has got to be the the fastest and most "fluid" device I have ever owned. I come from a dualcore Tegra 2 G2x, and the Galaxy Nexus just blows it out of the water. There is no comparison. Needless to say, I've also owned a Nexus One, Samsung Vibrant, and a G2 (The G2 with a processor most closest to your Thunderbolt).
Third, the phone vibrates just fine in my experience. If you're having troubles with it, put your incoming call ringtone on silent and raise your notification ringtone volume. That way you don't have to worry about a random call disturbing the peace.
Fourth, you must remember this is a Google Nexus device. Most games come optimized for Nexus devices. Give it time, your favorite games will be updated. In the mean time, there are plenty of other games you could play (Age of Zombies? )
Fifth, are you really going to complain about the focusing? The Galaxy Nexus has an instant shutter speed. If you want a better focus, how about you hold onto the shutter button before releasing it instantly?
I don't know about changing the input method via long press since the stock keyboard is the best I've ever used on an android device.
If you really do need a "hardware" search button, just apply a mod. If not, then just press home and it's there right at the top. Seems pretty convenient to me
I'd just like to point out to you that most of these "issues" will never be fixed as they are UPGRADES from the previous versions of android. Sorry

Good to hear you are doing so well, implying that there is some kind of drain issue isolated to the verizon LTE launch.
I am coming from a Thunderbolt, and while the device isn't slow, the rooted/modded bolt was significantly faster at launching gmail, yahoo mail, go sms texting, facebook etc... I suspect that this too will be fixed, but its frustrating that a more powerful device on paper is actually performing worse than an almost year old device.
Any other Thunderbolt users notice the lag on the nexus that I am referring to?
The vibrate feature is perhaps a matter of personal preference. What is fine for you, may not be nearly enough for others. I will try your suggestions though and appreciate it. I prefer to have my device in my pocket, and need to feel the vibrations as they are often emergent pages. Again, the vibration issue seems to be a real problem documented hear and elsewhere on the web.
The camera issue isn't about the speed, which is impressive. The problem is too many photos don't focus properly. The bolt took terrific pictures in comparison albeit at a slower pace. Flash photography indoors is not even passable in my opinion. Perhaps this latter problem can be or has been fixed in 3rd party camera applications. I am just not aware of any at the moment.
The gaming issue concerns me the least. I agree that this will likely be fixed with updated games quickly. I only raised it because my number one favorite game was affected!
Assigning voice capabilities to a long press is a real convenience on the bolt. I don't even have to look at the screen to make it text, email, call, find directions, do a google search, or launch an application. While you may find an alternative "easy" isn't he whole point about android the UI and being able to customize it to your hearts content. I am 100% confident that this will be addressed in some modification or add on program, but it is not easily done now.

The problem is you came from a device that had development optimization for almost 10 months to a brand new development phone. If you were running a stock Thunderbolt the whole time, you would more notice the difference between the two phones. I also came from a thunderbolt running MIUI ICS and Eternity ROMS, I can tell that this phone is significantly better in every respect but the camera. But, as a phone, I don't expect the camera to be awesome. The vibrate is more elegant on this phone compared to TBs brutal shock of a vibrate, I still feel it just fine.
Your other annoyances sound more like trivial irritations rather than actual device problems, aside from the battery in which case I would say turn off LTE and it would last longer. Changing the hardware buttons wasnt a stock feature on any android phone, that was part of development. People forget that these devices take a dew days to a week for battery to run properly and once development takes off, this phone will be a monster in a month's time when everything is better optimized and features are added.

I was really surprised because the responsiveness of this device has been one of the big selling features. I agree that this will likely be corrected with OTA updates and modded devices, but out of the box I was expecting it to be faster than my nearly one year old Thunderbolt, and was disappointed it wasn't.

I agree that many of these issues can be corrected. When I bought my bolt, battery life was dreadful. After a quick root and cyanogen install, it was resolved. But out of the box, it still was a more polished experience than this device is.
These may be "trivial irritations" to you, but they are significant to me. I am looking for the most complete and polished smartphone experience. The nexus promised everything, and has not delivered as of yet in my experience. In fact there is really very little it has lived up to judging by the hype.
Clearly there are others with similar problems. I hope and expect many/most to be fixed.
This may be germane to those of us coming from an optimized Bolt, which is still a very worthy piece of hardware. I cant speak for other devices, as the only other android device I have extensive experience is the original droid incredible, which ironically is still fantastic and faster in many ways to the new Nexus in my experience.
At this point, very little of the promised features and experience have lived up to expectations. Perhaps the hype was too great, but I am hopeful this all will be fixed with software updates.
I hope people don't take this as a personal attack on the device, as I know many feel passionate about such things.

Brand new Operating System, on a brand new phone. You have had the phone all of 4 days and expect it to be perfect already. I think you need to give it some time. You already said yourseld you modded your TB. Expect the same with this phone. And when and on a new OS you can not expect every app to work immediately. Looks like you should of waited a month to get the phone, or go back to the TB for another month and hold onto the Nexus. I currently have a TB myself.

I suspect you are correct. I was just surprised that virtually nothing that was promised on this device has been realized at launch. I am used to new phones being buggy, but virtually every aspect of this device has fallen short at launch and not consistent with the reviews.

I never said I expected it to be perfect. That is an unreasonable expectation of any device, even one that has matured and polished over time.
I do expect a flagship device to deliver on some of what was promised. This device has delivered on very few promises at launch. So far disappointed, but very hopeful it will be fixed.

But there are bugs with any device, especially on a new OS. Look at apple, they know how to bring new devices to market, but at launch iOS 5 was plagued with bugs, most notable was the battery drain.
But what promises hasn't the Nexus kept? I'm a little curious. Because to me, the Nexus line promises to bring the best hardware and software in terms of functionality, and to me the phone doesn't fall short of any expectations.

you cant compare a rooted device with a custom rom and kernel to one that is just rooted stock, its like comparing my old droid 1 to the galaxy nexus, your not comparing apples to apples
now maybe it could be that i came from the droid x(rooted and running cm7) but this phone is just amazing compared to my droid x and my og droid
sure i lost some features like longpress to search but i gained so many new ones(face unlock, 4g, google wallet, ect.) that i see they weigh out the loss of that feature, just my $0.02 though
battery on the other hand though is really bad, i will get about 5-6 hours at most(im a heavy user though) i just reset my battery stats for the first time though so im gonna hope that fixes it, have you though about getting the extended battery?
I put the extended battery in yesterday and made my way home from my best friend's place (a 3 hour drive). I listened to music via Poweramp over the car stereo for 2 hours and 15 minutes of the drive and then took a 45 minute phone call. Checked the battery after all that and the Gnex was at 71% battery. My guess is those of you with issues have some rogue app blowing your battery up. And comparisons with the Thunderbolt? My friend's brother in law had a loaner Thunderbolt he got from VZW whilst waiting for a new phone to come in as warranty replacement. It was running the stock ROM. The Nexus is crazily significantly faster than a stock TB. Reiterating the point of others, just wait til the devs get 10 months of development time on the Nexus - hell, give them 2 weeks and come to us and tell us how the phone is versus the TB. I had a Rezound. Great phone, but lack of S-Off (root) and dev support is why I jumped ship back to the Nexus.

My launch TB had horrific battery life. I guarantee yours did too. Only after significant modding and kernel work for months was the TB acceptable with battery life. While I agree battery life stinks right now, it will get much better, and much quicker than the TB did.
One of your programs isn't compatible with ICS and it is sucking up your battery by running all the time. Try to find out what it is.
Games/apps need to be rewritten to be compatible with ICS. Give it time.
After a month or two, this phone is going to be twice as good than it is now. We already have Google Wallet available after 3 days! It is just going to get better.
Download "Camera ZOOM Fx" and your photos will be a lot more detailed and colorful

I agree that the battery life on the original Bolt was terrible. The starting point of the Nexus in my opinion is many leagues worse. Today I had to recharge my device 4 times. The last time was after it drained in just over 49 minutes!!
The device has been wiped and factory default, so anything that is sucking up the juice, came with the phone. Its incomprehensible that Google would launch a device with a built in program using this much juice.
Given the comments in this thread, I just spent the past half hour testing an unrooted Bolt, bought the exam same day, from the exact same store as mine. The device was quicker than my Nexus in virtually every regard. Launching gmail, yahoo mail, browser, go sms texting, scrolling, opening settings... You get the point.
I agree the device will get better. It cant get much worse in this regard.
I will be quick to root and install cyanogen.
I am very disappointed at this time, but look forward to brighter future for the device.

My GN is on order and I currently have a modded Thunderbolt. I can't stand that phone at all, and I have been rooted and running Team BAMF ROM for a while. It lags horribly even with overclock, and while on 3G I barely get 7-8 hours. I hate it.
I'm hoping your problems don't translate to mine.
I am curious as to why there is very little dev's supporting the lg g3. The samsung on the other hand is being supported alot almost make me think i made a mistake getting the lg g3 but i do really like the phone. I guess i was spoiled before the lg because i had all htc phones and there was an unbelievable amount of support for the evos. so what do you guys think are we at the height of our support or will there be more devs picking this phone up?

Yes, more people bought it, so there are more devs.
What exactly you want developed for G3?
Kernels? Nah, you can't jump higher than lg did. It's already optimised. You can, of course, add some GCC flags, change toolchain, etc etc etc... For a marginal improvement, at best. Well, you can add undervolting, some modules (ntfs, gamepads, etc), advanced sound control... What else?..
Roms? Well, developing "only for G3!" roms isn't the best idea. Besides, some popular AOSP roms are already ported to g3, ones that haven't been ported don't even have stable 5.0 builds yet. Modding stock rom is almost impossible right now, apktool doesn't fully support neither 5.0, neither lg's special apk's (two apk's with id of 127 sharing resources? LG-way, lol.), so good custom roms aren't even possible yet.
And no, we won't get more support. If you want tons of support - buy Samsung.

i agree with both of the posts here and to really answer the first question, there is nothing that i specifically want developed i just was kinda confused as to why the forums are not filled with roms and kernals but you made a good point about saying quality over quantity.. I do really enjoy this phone and consider it the top of the line right now but we will see......
Honestly we have a fair amount of roms at this stage and it will only get better and better but as far as kernels goes I'd wish to see some more with overclocking/undervolting/profiles features in them ..

Ive had the phone for a month or so now and while the design specs etc are top notch
The performance is not
I find it to be slow and laggy especially the stock messaging app (i know i can use an alternative)
I have the 16gb version and it always seems to be using 88-90% ram at all times with very minimal apps in use
Cant see it being the fact i have the 2gb ram version as previous phones with 2gb ram have performed much better.
Considering getting rid for anther device

Agree fully, had my g3 for just over a week. Bought it from amazon so I have a month to decide.
Phone is terrible for lag, battery usage is woeful.
Perhaps my expectations were too high.
Won't go back to Samsung. Knox has ruined that.
The Moto G Play looks fantastic but no European release.
HTC is speculated to have fantastic new models.

Perhaps my expectations were too high.
Won't go back to Samsung. Knox has ruined that.
The Moto G Play looks fantastic but no European release.
HTC is speculated to have fantastic new models.

Been offered a straight trade for HTC one M8 might take them up on it
As a person coming from Samsung S2, S3, Note 3, I can say that Lg is doing a great job with the G2/G3 stock software! Way better than Samsung! Yes you'll find fingerprint features and some other useless bells and whistles, but LG software is solid, almost lag free, and battery life is king!
During my lifetime with Samsung, I spent most of my time cheating its software with Cyanogenmod.
So, would I be sad to not have the same amount of support on S5? Definitely no! I think what we have is valuable and I haven't felt yet that I need to run away to CM11/12.

I guess my question with those who see terrible battery life, what is it exactly you expect? I always here "terrible battery life", or "laggy". But no one backs it up with examples.
So, for those that are seeing poor battery life, answer these questions:
What is "poor" in your mind? Please provide a measurement such as you expect x amount of hours.
Exactly what are you using your phone for? Are you playing games for hours, shooting and/or viewing HD videos? Listenting to music?
After x hours of usage, how much battery is left after use (and whatever you were doing)?
For those with lag, answer these questions:
How are defining lag? Where are you seeing it and how are you perceiving it?
What apps do you have installed and how many?
What is the amount of storage you have left?
I know some have stated they see lag in the UI such as when they open a drawer, or swipe between screens and such. I guess I've never noticed that before, so maybe they come from a different phone that responded better in their eyes. Things that can help are possibly reducing the animation, but a possible issue could be the screen size. This phone packs a lot more pixels in it than the S5, so I could see how rendering on a screen with a larger pixel density could cause this. However, for me, I don't really notice it, and even if it is there, it must not be a huge amount or else I'd notice it.
As for battery life, I don't know what people are expecting. I get at least a days (24 hours) worth. Now, granted I'm running Greenify which has helped me on other phones, so I'm sure that has a hand in it. However, there was a time I wasn't running Greenify at first with this phone and I remember having the phone charged at 100% when I went to bed, took it off the charger, left it on (I used it as an alarm clock plus as my on-call phone) and when I woke up 6+ hours later, it was STILL at 100%. Adding Greenify has helped to prevent apps from wake locking, but that's not the phone's fault. That's how some apps are written and that in and of itself can cause battery drain, but it's even worse if you out-right kill the app/service all the time.
I make and take phone calls (not all day, mind you), I send and receive texts (not every minute). I do play games (Game of War a lot) and that does drain the battery, but that's going to happen on any phone. I've listen to music on my phone, especially when driving to/from work and other errands. One time, I must have logged over 2 hours on Power Amp. I wanted to see how much it drained the battery, so I kept note of where the battery was at when I started listening and where it was when I stopped listening. Over a two hour total period of listening to music, the battery drained 2%. Not bad if you ask me.
I'm just curious because right now, with this phone, I'm getting better battery life than I did with my RAZR MAXX and my RAZR HD phones. This phone I could possibly go two days before charging. After about 36 hours, I'm at 40% battery, so I could probably go another 12 hours, but when I get to 40%, that's when I start charging back up again.
I'm not trying to dispute what people are saying. I'm just curious as to what people are expecting vs. what they are getting (or perceive as getting) from this phone. Again, most of the time, we get generic statements as "battery life sucks" or "it lags". Great. Please back that up with examples because otherwise, it's all in the eye of the beholder as to what great or sucky battery life is and/or what lag is.
Just to show, im currently at 60% after 21 hours of use. That's with phone calls, playing Game of War, texting, etc. I've attached the screenshot as well.
Just comparing to my Note 3, with stock FW but apex launcher.
Battery would last in excess of a day with quite heavy use, games Internet browsing etc. BT always on auto brightness.
Apps would also open instantly or as expected.
The G3 can has a battery life of less than 4hrs with little or no use. Consumes 18-19% in 7hrs overnight.
Finding myself charging the phone at every opportunity.
I know the Note 3 didn't come with qi, but the qi on the G3 is sooo picky. 1mm off and it doesn't charge.
Using stock launcher just pressing home, first the wallpaper loads followed by the icons then the widgets. No what would be called snappy.
And OMG does it get hot!!! For no reason at all. Not playing games, just emails and Web browsing.
So now I am left wondering if the phone is faulty.

I have both "issues".
"poor" is g3's screen-on time on 5.0 while browsing using 4g. 5-5:30 hours on latest firmwares isn't much. It was nearly 7 hours on 4.4.2... I always set brightness to 20% auto, lighting conditions are always same.
I use phone for browsing and listening to locally stored music via Bluetooth. No watching or shooting videos or playing games.
After 5 hours of 4g web browsing i am left with empty battery.
Lag:
I define lag as "animation stuttering". I am seeing it everywhere: Vkontakte, Google Play Store, while opening drawer, switching tasks, etc... It lags often, but not always.
I have 47 user apps installed, 0 additional system apps.
The only apps that keep background services or use alarms are: Aqua mail, LMT, SBH52 smart headset, Titanium backup.
There are 4 apps using GCM for push.
There are 6 accounts (Google, Shazam, Skype, VK, tutu.ru and one money app) at sync section.
And i have got 5.4 gb free out of 25 on intsd. Shouldn't slow down writing much.
A perfect setup, right? But it still lags on official firmware.
I would assume you aren't running anything like Greenify, etc. What it sounds like is there are a lot of wake locks going on. That's where Greenify comes in. I also turn off a lot of syncs as I don't need them. As you can see with my screenshot, 60% is where I was at after 21 hours so thus phone can definitely get good battery life. But, if you do a lot of stuff for hours, no phone can keep it's battery life for long. Also, with the quad hd screen this phone has, that is a big drain, but even then, I'm getting great battery life.
Another thing with going to 5.0, it's best to start fresh. Do a factory data reset and start from scratch. Going from 4.x to 5.0, especially with Lollipop, had a lot of changes underneath the hood. There are others getting better or the same battery life, but i also think it all depends on usage.
I dont know with other guys here.but i am very happy with the lg g3 forums

I already dumped mine at a huge loss. I would say worst phone ever, but that goes to my first Android, the Moto Backflip. Thank goodness my other phone is a M8.
Battery is kinda the only area i don't really have a problem with the phone its not the best but its not the worst
As someone has previously said i also came from a note 3 which in performance blows the G3 out of the water snappy and quick with no lag and instant app openings
Greenify shouldn't be something you should need to do to get rid of lag on a quad core 2.5ghz device with 2GB of ram
Out of the box the thing uses 88% ram considering the actual ROM itself is like 1.6gb just HOW is that possible if the entire contents of the ROM was loaded it into RAM should still only use 76%
Its a high end high spec device extremely poorly calibrated i have an old galaxy S3 that out performs it

Only thing i'm having problems with is the fact that the ram is always overload. Used titanium to remove and freeze alot of stuff but still the ram usage is about 1.3 to 1.6gb.
This is on stock rom which is very good to me with no lag and everything an launcher needs.
Battery life from the G3 is very good, on my previous phone I was affraid to leave the house if the battery wasn't filled to 100% with the G3 i left yesterday at 62% and returned from work with still 46% (off course with no heavy use) while my data is always on.
Conclusion for me after a month of use, good value for the money.

Greenify isn't for lag. It's for battery life.
Again, each to his own. I think it all depends on the perception of the user and what they expect and what they've gotten in the past from other phones.
Form me, this phone blows the RAZR MAXX and RAZR HD out of the water, which is what I came from and I get great battery life (well over 36 hours) before I have to recharge. And even then, at 40%, I probably could go another 12 hours but I choose not to.
Just last night, before I went to bed, the phone was at 100%. When I woke up 6 hours later, it went down only 2%, so I had 98% battery left. I've since used it to check email, read the news, played about 45 minutes of Game of War and did some updates via Google Play and I'm at 90%. That's after 9 hours since I last charged. I'd say those are pretty darn good stats for me.
Again, mileage may vary from user to user and what they expect. And from the responses I'm seeing, that's what I'm gathering. Some are saying the phone is great, others say it's okay, and others say it's awful coming from another phone. So, that definitely shows that it's all in the eye of the beholder.
But I appreciate what everyone has posted. It does appear that some who didn't like this phone have been able to find a phone that works great for them. I always try to state why a phone works great "for me" because that's what it is. It's not necessarily going to work great for someone else, but I also don't want to steer someone towards this phone if it doesn't meet their needs, so I try to explain why and how it works for me as I'm the user of this phone, and everyone else might use it differently.

I don't get why a lot of people are complaining about lag and support and s*** like that.
You are getting lag probably because:
(A) You don't know how to use your phone.
(B) You picked up the 16GB model (which only has 2GB RAM
(C) You're not rooted (seriously, who doesn't root their phones nowadays)
When I got this phone, I didn't have it rooted for a month. Everything was smooth despite having a lot of apps installed. It only became a lag machine when I installed Facebook and its Messenger app.
Yes there are lags from time to time, but do iPhones not lag? Of course they do, all phones do. I don't see all you guys' point.
A good phone doesn't need any sort of custom ROM and kernel, etc etc. Mine has always been on Stock ROM and Kernel, minimal lag. iPhone-like smoothness, I must say (but plus good multitasking. iOS multitasking is s***) In fact, when I upgraded to Android 5.0, it got even better.
I have stayed stock most of the time but I always have Greenify installed, (but battery life was still great before rooting and installing Greenify)
You people are just picky.
Not sure why people are seeing 18%+ drop in battery overnight in standby mode. Must either have a lot of synching going on or a misbehaving app or two.
Me, when I'm at home, WiFi is turned on. I have minimal syncing (apps, calendar, google+, photos).
Here is a screenshot I took this morning. When I first woke up, I was down to 98% overnight (was at 100% when I went to bed at midnight and when I woke at 6:30 am, it dropped only 2%).
At the time I took this screenshot, I had already read the news, did some updates, checked emails, and played about 30 minutes of Game of War and I was down to 94%. That seems like good battery life to me.
Of course, if you really want to improve the battery life of this phone, maybe you can go to Amazon and get this upgrade for the G3:

Really...? If you dont like his post, simply ignore it and move the **** on. Back on topic: I really love the G4. It has a great camera, very fast and responsive (had a few touch issues but it was fixed with a software update) great battery life when you disable gps/data when theyre not needed.
Only downside is the design which doesnt look as good after awhile next to the iPhone and Samsung's premium look but you get leather back for that!
I have had it for almost 3 months and Im still not sure about it. Sometimes I really hate it sometimes I just like it. Lollipop is the thing that makes me wants to destroy it the most.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I just came from a galaxy S6 in all its sapphire goodness. The G4 to me is stunningly beautiful. I was holding it next to my wife's platinum gold S6 and ooh that screen ratio is beautiful. Sure it's not the brightest kid on the block, but who needs to squint to show that off? With accessibility>vision>Screen color adjustment. I can match the colors of sexy amoled just fine. Yes, this is mine and only mine until the Spring flagships are released.

Sadly this is the norm for these forums. So many people are skilled at faulting someone's post and talking to them like they're in kindergarten. My favorite is "USE SEARCH FIRST! ! THIS QUESTION HAS BEEN ASKED! ! " As if no one and their grandma has ever heard of Google or has any idea that the forum search tool often sucks.
Right now I really like the phone but it has so much less support than my G3 on these forums plus so many people having strange issues like random boot loops of death on totally unmodified phones. On top of this my variant has no official KDZ/TOT file released
I've had my G4 for about two weeks, and overall I'm happy with it. Battery life could be better, but I think part of it is something strange going on with my phone causing fairly rapid drain every now and then. May try doing a factory reset to see if that helps
It's sort of a love/hate relationship with my G4. While I love the camera and form factor of the phone, I hate the battery life, overheating, and severe lack of development. I'm really hoping Marshmallow will fix some of the issues.
If they could improve the battery life, heating issues, and random performance lag, this would be damn near a perfect phone, even un-rooted. I had the G3 and HATED it. I like the G4 significantly better. I'm curious to see what they do with the G5 next year.
Mine overheats a bit, and I'm not even playing games.

Mine doesn't. I mean, when I play it does a bit, but it's expected.
I'm about to root my phone (I always do that, this is the first phone that I have for more than 2 weeks unrooted!!), but I do like it a lot (mainly camera).
It's really nice one (came from Galaxy S4).
What bothers me now:
1) When I use ProShot, it's draining the battery a LOT, as well as overheating (I'll check it with the DEV)
2) I do like using Google Now. However, with G4, it keeps activating GPS a LOT, more than usual!! Then, Android System shows as biggest battery drainer.
Overall, very happy.

But to be honest... The title of this thread could have been more professional
I came from a Nexus 5, which I dropped unfortunately... So I was kind of forced to buy the G4 a few weeks ago.
I'm quite satisfied with the whole package. The community support could be better (Maybe I'm spoiled by my 2 years Nexus experience?!)
But I think we have one of the best phones on the market and the community is growing!

issues that irk me at the moment
-battery life is horrid even with mods
-heats up a bit and like someone stated above thats not ven when youre playing games.(also flashed heat mod)
-on screen buttons which is my biggest peeve, i dont understand why people love them and they are the norm, they take up screen real estate. i constantly accidently hit them all the time when im doing things in apps. its just my personal experience but in general a clusterFuk for me.
other than that I love everything else.

Does a reboot improve anything ?
There is no overheating, if it overheats then the device will shut down. SOP on Android.
You have some processes that generating heat. if you're shooting 4k this will happen.
If screen brightness is on max and you're doing something intensive it will happen.
@One Twelve I wouldn't count using Tapatalk as intensive task. Screen brightness level is usually around 40-70%.
The workaround that I use is using power saving mode but the display is dimmer. It is far from ideal, but this way, I can easily last the day without having my battery being drained by the the two cortex A57.

I believe battery life depends on what phone u came from. It's will be seem as good battery if u came from s4 but bad if u come from note 4/5.

Kinda the same here. Love the hardware, not a fan of the software. CM12 is coming along very well, though, and as soon as Bluetooth is fixed (so I can use my Moto 360), I'll be moving to that as my daily driver. From limited use, it seems very stable!
One major issue I ran into recently was constant power cycling. Even after 3 factory resets, it would power cycle non-stop. I ended up having to get it replaced.
Strangely enough, my friend's G4 started doing the same thing on the exact same day as mine. Both Verizon variants.
I dont get alot of the comments here. I have great battery life especially on standby. Software wise g4 has less bloatware than samsung and i accredidate that to the good performance and lag free experience when the processor is one gen behind current flagships. The form factor in the hand is good too curved back and back buttons are great and took me no time to get used to coming from samsung. If i have a gripe it could be the touchscreen responsiveness butits nowhere near as bad as some people make out.
I'm not sure where else to put this (I searched and found nothing) but has anyone else been impressed by this phones ability to remain cool to the touch? I'm using the stock case that came with the US variant of the phone and aside from an APN issue where signals were going insane and the radio tried to connect to a billion different towers, I have not once noticed the phone getting much above ambient temperature.
Is this normal? Can anyone else confirm that this thing just doesn't get hot?
I'm bringing this up because I've owned/used around 30 different smartphones from all of the major manufacturers and the vast majority get quite warm during several normal tasks.
For instance, on most phones I've used, if the brightness is up and I'm gaming for any extended period of time the phone will get quite warm. If I'm charging and browsing the web, most phones will warm right up. If I'm gaming and charging at the same time, things get toasty. If I'm gaming and quickcharging/turbocharging things get pretty bad. If I'm gaming on a "practically magic" iPhone while it's charging- forget about it. Same goes for most phones and video recording.
The Le Pro 3 has remained completely usable during all of those tasks. It's actually downright creepy being able to heavily game on full brightness while quickcharging without my fingertip being on fire within a few minutes.

This is supposed to be the benefit of the Snapdragon 821 processor; fast but at the same time power efficient....
I hear you. Playing Pokemon Go with a Pro 3 is smooth and cool, I can say that playing for about 10 minutes straight and it gets warm, but not hot. Unlike playing it with my One Plus One, a 5 minute session and it gets hot. This phone totally surprised me :good:

Obviously they've made strides, but its not just the chipset. Reviews of the pixel, ZTE and Asus 821 phone all mention how the 821 is better than 820 (lol, as in it can't cook an egg) but they all say it gets warm and the pixels seem to have significant heat issues.
The battery isn't getting massively hot even under quick charge despite being enormous and charging very quickly for its size. The screen doesn't seem to emit much heat either though it's not some AMOLED qhd monster but still. I mean it's obvious that the CPU is right below the fingerprint reader as it does get warm but nothing even gets what I'd consider hot especially for a modern flagshipish smartphone.
I've used supposedly power sipping/efficient chipset before as well as stuff like the original moto x which was literally a heat bomb and none of them have done so well. I'm sure it's not the actual best temperature that a phone has ever been but it's like night and day for me!
Kudos to Qualcomm or LeEco or the battery manufacturer or the screen supplier- they all seem to have gotten it right with regards to heat and efficiency.
I even have the speed up box enabled for all relevant apps and have turned off most power saving stuff and the phone is still cooler than every modern smartphone phone I've used including hugely underpowered ones.

Good to know, if anyone else has this issue - mine was deleting T-Mobiles default APN and making a MetroPCS one (incorrectly), then deleting that and having it automatically revert back to T-Mobile. Once I cleared everything and manually put Metros APN stuff correctly everything cleared up and has been fine since.
But during that half morning when I couldn't figure out the issue my Pro3 was getting quite warm and I was ready to return the thing. The issue remained even after a factory reset until I manually adjusted the APN.

My situation was different then. APN was fine but it somehow kept frequently switching LTE bands/towers my carrier offer which caused ever frequent signal fluctuation.
Nothing could fix it until I moved to CM.
