PC-USB Connection - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a new T-mo G3, and when I plug it in top my computer, I don't get anything, no new device, no storage access, no looking for drivers, nada.
I've tried every port I have easy access to. I don't know if there is a setting I'm missing, or what's going on.
I don't even get an option to turn on USB tethering on the phone.
The only thing that DOES happen, is the phone starts charging.
(Win7 x64)
Posting from said phone, so sorry for formatting.

Lg drivers from lg website and check device manager if there is any sign one the usb ports way on the bottom of the list of devices.
If yes stop the devices by right click the ones with "!". That should do it
please hit thanks if i helped in any way. send from my g3 d852 beast

Also, on your g3 go to settings - storage, then click the 3 dots in the upper right and select usb. Make sure that you don't have it just set to "Charge phone".

I don't get a device, unknown or otherwise at all, so there isn't a device to install drivers for.
Seems like the problem lies with my computer. I just plugged into another computer, same Win7 x64, and immediately, I get the device connection sound and it pulls up the device storage.

My Samsung Galaxy Note 2 will no longer be recognized as a media device after I installed Cyanogen Mod 10.2. I have updated all the latest samsung drivers and made sure that i have USB Debugging ON when I plug in my device. It does charge when i plug in my device to the computer and when I go to the drivers tab and search for my phone there is a caution sign. Aldo when I plug my phone into the computer it will search for drivers and then say no drivers found for device even though I have downloaded every driver known to man. I just want to know if i need ADB or something or is my phone my broke because I have tested this on two computers. Remember i can charge my phone but the computers will not recognize it as a media device. Can someone help?

I keep reading that you have to make sure MTP (media device connection) is set so you can copy files. I would check and make sure that it is selected.
In my CM11 device, you get to that by going to Settings>Storage and then hitting the 3 dots on the upper right of the screen. That brings up the "USB computer connection" menu choice. Tapping on that brings up where you can set MTP. On my Note 2 running SlimKat, once you get to storage, you hit the bottom left menu button to bring the "USB computer connection" menu choice. Once you tap that you end up at the same page where you can set MTP.
Hope this helps,
Chris

This seems to work for most any device changing Android OS on their device
Disconnect your device from your PC/Laptop.
1
From your Device, disable USB Debugging found in Settings > Developer Options.
1
From your PC/Laptop go to Device Manager, click on View> Show Hidden Devices.
1
Double click Composite ADB Interface, click on Properties.
1
Click on the Driver tab and choose on Roll Back Driver. This will uninstall the problematic drivers.
Should 'Roll Back Driver' option be grayed out, click Uninstall.
1
In the confirmation pop up window, click the box marked "Delete the driver software for this device" and then click OK.
Repeat this step for all Composite ADB Interface' entries.
1
Shut down your PC/Laptop, then start again.
(IMPORTANT: Do not "Restart" from the shutdown menu, you must do a full shut down)
1
Once PC has fully rebooted, open device manager and keep it to the side.
1
Connect the device to your PC/Laptop. Your PC will recognize the device as a storage device.
1
From your device go back to Developer options and select USB Debugging.
1
Unplug the device, wait 15-20 seconds and reconnect. You should now see your device from you PC and Device Manager should now have a "Portable Devices" folder
1
Should 'Composite ADB Interface' show up again, repeat (4) and (5) to roll back the driver update.
Ƹ̵̡- It seems, using the universal driver is also a good suggestion. These can be downloaded here -Ʒ

In my device manager there is no ACER.... When I connect my LG G3 (F400S) Android 4.4.2 version, nothing happens in the PC, nothing happens in the device manager (no refresh, no new drivers of LG or LGE), the phone just charges (nothing from the notifications as well). I have installed the LG drivers (latest from LG website), LG PC Suite, tried to connect from LG PC Suite, but the PC refuse to detect the phone. I tried with different USB cables, different USB ports and different PC with different windows (7, 8.1 and 10), absolutely nothing. More surprisingly, my friend has the LG G3 (D855) which he can connect and get detected by his laptop but mine does not in this laptop with his cable in the same USB port! I think the problem is with the phone itself even if it charges. Please HELP!!
@Mr Rus
Is this device new or did you purchase used?
Does the device charge? If so, how?
Has your LG G3 ever been connected to your PC/Laptop?
Do you hear any sound from your PC, when you connect the device via USB cable?
Hi,
1. The device was bought as used online. It said new on the website but by the look of it i know it is used (scratch at laser autofocus and screen not properly glued OR it is a defective one).
2. Yes it does charge with the charger. The one i got charged the phone 0 to 100 in 4 hours. So i use my tablet charger (5V, 2A) to charge the phone with another cable (about 2h and 15min from 0 to 100) as the cable which came with the phone also causes the slow charging. When connected to the PC the phone vibrates and charges. I can see the 'electric current' on the battery icon and on the lock screen I can see it says charging (%).
3. It is the first time i've connected the phone with my different PCs. First one i tried without the drivers installed then tried with driver and pc suite installed. In the second PC the driver was installed first then the phone was connected. No positive result.
4. No, no sound at all. But i remember that there was some android adb stuff in the device manager (maybe same to the ACER...), i uninstalled it without checking the box mentioned in your instructions unfortunately. Then i heard a sound when connecting the phone. And right after that another sound, in my taskbar it says unknown device and error (i forgot the error code). But nothing on my phone in the notifications, it just charges. Under USB controllers in my pc i could see Unknown usb composite device (something like that) with yellow exclamation mark. I googled and had this uninstalled. Since then no sound at all.
I cannot return the phone for exchange as the shipping cost would be too much for me to afford (about USD 70-90). I am waiting for a software update as maybe this will solve the problems. I am still with kit kat 4.4.2. But if this is a hardware issue, it would be difficult to solve this.
Also the USB OTG does not work.

Maybe you have some problems with usb
Maybe you have some problems with usb port. I use usb hubs in such situations. Somehow, gadget seamlessly connects to a PC via the the extraneous device. I found good reviews for usb hubs on topchoice.best, if you suddenly decide to take my advice.

There is no PC connection setting, no MTP settings as well.
I am on a stock based rom.
If you are using aosp or cm based you might find the mtp in storage settings.
If the previous owner defaults the connection to charge only then windows will not detect the phone.
A friend of mine did the same and i found the setting to reset back to a mtp connection when plugged in with usb.
If i remember i had to hit the ellipsis button ... The three dots and it was in there. Sorry i am vague but it was a long time ago and i am stock based.
If somebody running aosp or cm can chime in and tell him where exactly that setting is that would be nice.
Otherwise goggle it.
Good luck my friend!

Unfortunately there is no such setting. I am using the stock ROM from LG itself (android 4.4.2) and the only setting about PC connectivity is Share & connect --> LG PC Suite. There is not options for MTP even after connecting the phone. I know for my friend when he connect his, he get the notification to change to charge only, MTP etc from the notification bar, but mine nothing. I done factory reset so, I do not think that the default setting is still set to charge only. Tried everything for this issue :/
For a last resort you can try another usb cable and/or a different usb port. There are also apps on the play store that will do wifi direct.

Thanks bro. Good job.
@TonyStark, thanks for the job you have done, for us, but my friend's AT&T LG G3 does not connect to PC at all, i have tried many ways like 3845#*850# Post Setting > Diag Settings > USB Set for Diag && Settings > Diag Settings > USB Set for Diag, but still no luck, i have also installed LGUnitedMobileDriver which was also suggested by you on the first post, No Luck yet,
Edited: In the last i came to know that the USB jack or port of the G3 was badly damaged, hence, after knowing that i told my friend that he is luck because his devices is still charging with this port condition. And he went to the hardware shop happily
And you were pleased to shut down that thread, I don't know why? may be you were trying or looking to make something better than that but we lost a good hope.
Now please help me what can i do with it, it is running 4.4.2, any thing we want to do with it is failed due to no USB connection to the PC,
by the way, i know i can root it with kingoroot and install autoRec and than TWRP and can upgrade to Lollipop by the way of putting all material into SDCard but does updating solves the USB connection problem OR we will be in the same state. As far as Marshmallow is also landing soon so, I think my friend must not stay on kitkat, and lastly an LG G3 like wooping device may not live its all life without USB connection. Please help. Thanks

how
you can use last version lg mobile driver
You can access the PC connection from your phone setting/storage/upper right corner option/USB PC Connection.
Then you will have 3 options of Charge tablet, Media sync (MTP), Send images (PTP)
Unfortunately even after I select MTP, my PC still can't detect my tablet LG G Pad 7.0 LTE

Having Problem Connect Nexus 5X to PC using a USB cable

When I connect Nexus 5X to a Windows 10 PC, I can't see it in File Explorer.
Many people said that one should change the option from charging only to MTP in the USB connection notification, appeared when plugged in. But I don't even have that notification, and cannot find the option anywhere else.
In Devices and Printers, there's a Nexus 5X under Unspecified; and in Device Manager, I can see a "ACER ADB Interface" there which I assume is for Nexus 5X. I tried to download Nexus driver from Google buy it seems is the same with the ACER ADB thing and is not helping.
Any tips or solutions? Thanks in advance!
PS. First xda thread started by me, yay!
UPDATE: After awhile, maybe it's because I slid the screen while connected, the notification did pop up. But EVEN after I chose MTP, there's still nothing in my File Explorer...
Hiya,
I had the same thing happen on my 5X. I was only able to get to the "Use USB for Charge / MTP" dialog by enabling Developer Mode.
To do that: Go to Settings / About Phone, and scroll all the way to the bottom.
Tap "Build number" seven times. On the sixth tap, you should see a message that says "one more tap will unlock Developer mode" or something to that effect.
Back-arrow to the Settings main menu.
Click on Developer options
Look for Networking / Select USB Configuration.
Choose the mode you want.
The notification should appear when you plug in the USB cable to your computer.

could be a driver issue?
download and install latest usb drivers.
Go to My Computer> Properties>Device Manager> Find the android device>Right Click update driver software>Browse My Computer>set to folder where you have usb driver saved and go from there?
You can also try to let me pick (instead of browse local folders) and pick the google ADB interface from there.
I have also had success in the past using other software (PdaNet) to manage the whole installataion of drivers; but this adds software to both phone and computer ... may or may not be useful.
After re-reading your first post its definately driver related. It shouldnt say Acer just ADB Interface or google adb interface.

Check Device Manager, is it listed as ACER Device? It probably is. It happened to me. Select the device, mouse right, update driver, choose "let me pick a driver" or something simmilar. Then you should get a list of compatible drivers and 2 entries, the current ACER driver and some generic USB driver. Choose the generic USB driver. That did the trick for me.
This i got from reddit . I had the same problem today this link helped me .. hope it helps you too

@arpan_pratik, Thank you! You are the best! This is exactly what my problem is and I solved it using your suggestion!
Although I didn't yet find any useful information from reddit regarding my issue, you must used some magic keywords
@The_Automator, thank you, too! It indeed is a driver issue. I tried many times to update the driver or uninstall the ACER ADB driver, but none of them worked. Didn't realize that it is Windows chose the wrong default driver. Don't know why, maybe it's because I installed adb before?
So, for the record, here are some key points to solve the problem:
The wrong driver for my Nexus 5X showed in Device Manager is ACER Device\ACER ADB Interface
No use to install Nexus driver from Google, even use "Browse my computer for driver software" and search the extracted Google driver folder. Windows will say the driver is up to date.
So I have to do this: In Device Manager -> RMB on ACER Device\ACER ADB Driver -> Properties -> Update Driver -> Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer -> check "Show compatible hardware" -> choose "MTP USB Driver" (this is a Microsoft driver under "standard MTP Device" category) -> Problem solved!
Then I can find my Nexus 5X in Device Manager here: Portable Devices\Nexus 5X
After the right driver installed, if I try again to update the driver using ""Search automatically for updated driver software", Windows 10 will actually install the wrong driver (ACER ADB) back!
Thank you all in this thread to help me exclude other possibilities, lock down the culprit and finally solve the issue!
Just got a Nexus 5X, and I'm having the same problem under Windows 10. I don't see an Acer device in Device Manager though, I see a "Nexus 5X" under "Other devices" with a yellow triangle exclamation mark.
When I tried following the steps, I don't have "Show compatible hardware" nor "MTP USB Driver". When I tried installing "MTP Device", I get an error "The install class is not present or is invalid."

If you have other android devices that is working on your PC, you'll notice that the driver used is the "wpdmtp.inf" you can get it on your 64-bit Windows on this location:
"C:\Windows\WinSxS\amd64_wpdmtp.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.16299.15_none_42867195f7d5106b\wpdmtp.inf"
Locate this file via device manager and choose "MTP USB Device"
And viola! You can now transfer files again in your Nexus 5x!

Nope, was never able to find a fix. If you do please let me know.
Yes I got it working. Since longer USB cables only shows unknown device I installed android development system and it made no difference.. But I had a 6inch charging cable that came with my power brick and I tried that and viola the Nexus showed up.. Not as a nexus 5x like before but as something like romaster composite ADB interface or something and I was able to flash TWRP recovery so now I can at least get access to it. Backed up the memory to a flash drive.. Have not flashed SU or anything yet but that should not be a problem with TWRP installed.. And like usual it takes a few flashes and rebooting into TWRP for it to stick other wise the recovery goes away.. Still dont know why the longer USB cables make any difference.. I even tried it out on a USB extension socket which is a 20 foot long USB extender and that also works.. So it must be something else like when I had the MB changed the adapter I was using did not work for data transfer.. Might be using some wire that is missing in the longer cable..

[SOLVED] Problem with USB/MTP and more

When i connect to PC it's "charging", pressing that "charging.." notification does nothing, long pressing displays "System UI". So i cant get MTP setting. Some guys say go to Settings - Storage - 3 dots <-------------- there are no 3 dots in top right. Problems started with me pressing "Revoke USB debugging authorizations". After that when i connect to PC i'm just Charging.
P.s : This is not only problem i have with this device. When i connect to LG bridge on pc (when i still could!) it would offer me constantly (even if i apply the update) 10b update, even tho i received 10c on OTA.
I cant access recovery options with power button combinations (i tried them all) and when i managed to get in recovery over ADB i was welcomed with android guy with RED triangle with exclamation mark.
In the end i'm seriously considering smashing this phone in desperation. This is my last LG for sure.
Only good experience i had with this phone is this forum. Full of people with knoweledge and willing to help. Thank you :good:
I deleted all drivers on computer, reconected, mtp started working fine.. Now to fix other issues..
This may sound like a long shot, clutching at straws (and perhaps it is), but I've had similar trouble when using damaged USB cables. Do you have any others you can try?
I don't have the 3 dots in storage either. You were probably reading tips for another phone/rom. I think you can only access the USB PC connection menu via the notification bar after you've plugged it in to a PC. There are also apps available that can access these "hidden" menus.

Check the sliding switch on the right hand edge of the op3 is "down" to allow ALL notifications. There are plenty of "install OP3 drivers" videos on Youtube. Windows drivers are also on the phone.
This should still work - the drivers are also supplied on the phone. Doing nothing other than connecting a op3 to a windows pc should cause a cd drive to appear in Windows Device Manager and in File Explorer (look under "This PC") for "CD Drive (drive letter: OnePlus Drivers" . Double Click the icon and run "OnePlus_USB_Drivers_Setup.exe". If you are running a recent version (and clean installed in the last few months) of W10 Pro then you may hit driver signing issues
