[Q] Complete forum theme redesign? - About xda-developers.com

Maybe I'm missing something... I can't find any threads mentioning a change to the site... but I just refreshed my page and now the entire forum has a completely different look....a very bland grey theme.
I know I didn't change anything...and no one else seems to be mentioning this..?
Ideas?
NM: Just found this:
http://www.xda-developers.com/announcements/xda-2015-forum/

I dont like the new design... imho its much worse than before.

Go to Settings > Edit Options > Forum Skin (very last choice). Now you can select the skin that was shown yesterday (XDA 2013)

We're testing a new theme: http://forum.xda-developers.com/general/about-xda/official-xda-2015-forum-template-bugs-t2887442
it was accidentally set for everyone yesterday for a short time, which is why you saw it change.

I just noticed it today and I personally don't like it. I never once complained about this site and ive been coming to XDA since 2009, but this new format sucks. I always come to XDA on my Android and I must add the new format is NOT mobile friendly. I don't like the sticky/glued top bar because like many of those mobile sites out there... the top bars stay stuck in one spot and enlarge while you try to zoom in & view the rest of the page.... thus it starts blocking page content. I am NOT a fan of glued top/side bars for this reason. I also had trouble logging in because the login box kept disappearing if I moved the page just a pinch.
The split panes on the right side are also buggy. Sometimes they get stuck and overlap on the forum content when I zoom out. :/

Please read the thread I linked to above, and post any issues there.
or you can return to the old theme if you don't like the new one.

What happened to the dropdown menu on XDA ?

Hello all- I was not sure if this was the right section to post this but here goes;
I recently deleted some temporary internet files, etc.. on my laptop and now when I go onto the XDA.. forum the dropdown menu which let me go from sub forum to sub forum within the site has disappeared.
I mean the dropdown menu on the lower right of any page you're on.
Is there a setting somewhere I have to use ?
It's a pain to navigate within XDA now as I have to go back to the homepage to get to any sub forum.
Any ideas ?
Cheers for any help, LL13-
It's gone I guess. You're browser was using an older cache of the site. The updated site doesn't have that feature.
Are you using the Yellow or Brown theme?
EDIT: I'm guessing the brown one, the "Devices by OS and Manufacturer" doesn't work for me on Chrome 12 (ish)

Flagged to the admins, looks like some other mods are having problems with that menu too.
OK well cheers for the information everyone, it seems I may have to live with it for now anyway. I have simply saved the main thread page of each of the sub forums I visit as favourites and just visit them individually, not a big issue.
For the record I am using the 2010 theme, I have switched between both in hopes of regaining the dropdown menu but no luck.
* On a lighter note, DaveShaw I laughed at your avatar as I love Yorkshire tea. I am usually going for the norrmal Yorkshire as opposed to the gold but it's not easy to find here and when you do it's pricey but worth every cent !
Cheers, LL13-
Any progress on this being fixed . It sure is a major PITA to navigate around .

XDA 2013 Beta Theme is Now Live! [Comments Thread]

Today we are announcing the public beta of the new "2013" theme for the XDA forums. This theme is in active development, though for the most part it should be suitable for daily use. You can access it via the "Style Chooser" in the bottom left corner of most pages.
Please note: this theme is not bug free. It's possible that you will notice some funky behavior while using it.
Some of the primary benefits/features:
When we finish optimizing, it will be significantly faster than the existing "XDA 2010" theme.
Optimized for displays 1280 width screen resolution
We've added a sidebar to update you on PMs and subscribed threads/forums. This is collapsible for users when reading threads.
Tabbed home page which will default to showing your subscriptions to give you easy-access to the forums you care about most.
Enhanced device information pages (for example: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1533) that will show specs and root instructions for some devices.
Plus many other little additions and improvements.
Most of the user-facing changes are cosmetic. We created XDA 2013 as a platform for much more significant enhancements to the site, which will be rolling out over the next few months.
Please use this thread to post your comments and suggestions. If you have bugs to report, please post your thoughts in this thread.
Thank you for your help!
Just wondering, is there a place where we users can send in our device's info, so that the people working on it won't have so much work?
Cheers for all the effort put into it! Looks awesome!
Use it sice a week and its very fast. the only problem is the thanks-expand-arrow, he is too wide away from the text
Admin Edit: I made the "expand" text clickable also. - js1999
Edit: Thanks Admin
Awesome loving the new refreshed look of the site
just a suggestion.
The "online" symbol should be more green as currently difference between offline(black) and online(green) is very less noticeable
I really hate that there is so much crammed everyhwere, the right side portal stories are annoying, if I want portal stories I click on "portal"
I think the 2010 version is better, some of the fonts are cooler on the 2013 version but there is just way too much crammed on the screen at once.
sweet, trying it now.
This is defiantly different, looks clean, futuristic. I like it, will take sometime for my eyes to adjust to it tho.

You can close the sidebar if you don't really like it.
So far, the only thing I don't really like about this is the fact that if you click on a device (e.g. the HD2) all of the subforums appear. I understand that outside of the HD2 this won't be a major problem, but it still looks a bit clunky. Also, on normal zoom (i.e. I've pressed ctrl+0) I get a scroll bar thing along the bottom? Seems a bit odd, probably just a little glitch. Don't have it outside of when I'm replying though.
Needs are darker font system wide. Post_bit fonts are too light. That's the only thing that I see that I would change at this point.
But, that's just the VBulletin Admin in me coming out. LOL.

I only see the ability to close the sidebar while viewing a post and not forums. Is there a option Im missing?
I like the look but would like the ability to collapse the sidebar.

It's up the top right in the forum view too.
I think he meant the Forum Home view. There is no choice to collapse it on the main All Forums page.
Hmm I must not be special enough to get that option yet .
How about an inverted/dark/black theme for AMOLED devices when people don't use Tapatalk?
Oh my, this is quite nice.
The new theme is kinda awesome
But the page goes out of my screen so i have scroll a lil bit ... !!
Can we maybe have an option to only remove the portal posts from the side bar but instead display ALL messages and subscribed threads / fora?
Because clicking on "View all messages" takes you to the PM page. I'd rather have them in that list (best would be if it takes as much place as available ) (same for threads and fora)
if possible remove xda portal sidebar......if other guys agrees on it

xda forum pages reloading when interacted with in chrome?

So this is a pretty weird problem here.... I've noticed that whenever I'm browsing these forums on my Note 3 (it also seemed to happen sometimes on the sgs3 as well) I will run into this problem. What happens is when I go to a page that lists threads or forums, so a device's main page, the main forum page, or a forum itself, the page loads fine but when I actually try to interact, be it zoom in so that I can see things easier, or scroll down, or even click a search box, the whole page will begin to reload. Then once reloaded, half the time I can use the page without it happening again (all though hardly ever on the sgs3) and the other half of the time it would just happen again. The only way to keep it from happening that I found is to simply load the page, then when I go to interact with it I just do so near the top of the page so that if the thing starts to reload then I can quickly tap on the x button to stop it. If I do this then it won't bother me again like that on that page. I can scroll or type or whatever. But as soon as I go to another forum, device page, or even the next page of the same forum, the same thing , will happen.
Does anyone know why this is happening and any way to correct it? Is it an issue with chrome itself, as this only seems to happen on chrome, but my issue there is that I like chrome abd o especially like the way my bookmarks settings and passwords are shares across my own personal devices. So any ideas to fix this? It's driving me nuts! Oh and yes I know I could use the app but I'm just not that fond of it. I've even bought the premium one to support the forum a little but I'd just rather use the browser. Thanks for any help....I'm sure some others are experiencing this issue.
deleted - unintentionally irrelevant.

Using stock browser on my Note 10.1 it does this every time I try to use the XDA search. Havent tried it on my N3 though.
Anyone know how come the N3 stock browser acts like Chrome when you zoom? I cant figure out how to have the text format to the page either.

I shut off Java on the mobile chrome browser and this issue stopped.
I like having java though that's such a limiting way to deal with the problem
Where is this button Tony it's talking about? I don't remember seeing any buttons hardly in chrome.....
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yep happens to me too. I can't stand it. I find Firefox works best. It never refreshes like that.
Yea every other browser works fine except chrome it Is stupid as all get out.... what can be done to fix it I don't want to stop using Chrome because I use the bookmarks all the time etc.... it's just much easier for me to use Chrome for like 99 percent of the stuff that I do.... so any ideas? What is this auto reload feature that one guy was talking about? I've never heard of or seen it anywhere in chrome...has anyone else?
Far left bottom corner there is option to change for styles, change that to a previous one and it will stop

You'd think a site dedicated to mobiles would make the default be something that doesn't bork a major mobile browser...
They do , it's called the xda app lol

Thanks....at least that fixes it.... though you lose a couple features I guess it is what it is until they fix it that is.....
Thanks for the workaround. I also bought the premium app and i feel ripped off because it is really, really bad.
They should not activate a default setting that is bugged on a browser most users browse these forums with!

Old xda portal look/subscribed threads on new forum look

How about the possibility of changing theme to the old one on the XDA portal? I'd like to change it to the old theme and layout, but there is no way to do that. I'd be fine with the new look if there would be a dark skin, but we're forced to use the default white theme. It would be nice if we could change that.
Another thing I don't like is that when u switch to the new xda forum look the quick links tab is gone, so there's no way to QUICKLY view all subscribed threads like it was possible before. That's pretty annoying...
I also found out that on the latest up-to-date chrome you can't press multi-quote. Well, you can, but it doesn't get selected like if you wouldn't press it. Thanks button works fine though. I'm talking about the new design.
Regarding the Chrome / multi-quote issue, it works fine for me using the latest Chrome.

If that's not planned, I might actually make a userstyle for it.

You can view subscribed, unread threads by clicking on "Settings" (which I think should be renamed to something better). If you want all subscriptions (even unread ones), then you're correct.

I'd love to see your userstyle. Especially for the old design as the lack of userstyle for the new xda portal is something that made me switch from your forum black version to the XDA 2015 theme.
Well, yeah, before you could view both read and unread subscribed threads, now you can't.
Does the portal not have a way to submit news tips now ?
I have an issue that I think needs to become known by all who support independent developers on Google Play.
Basically, Google's way to dealing with the EU VAT changes mean my income is dropping about 20%. (It isn't a great income to start with, despite my long hours of work.)
20% ! This sucks !
I explain in further detail in a post on General section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/dammit-google-dammit-eu-vat-policies-t3003275

Search on these forums is awful now

Without changing to the old XDA theme down below (ie XDA 2015) which works amazingly well and advanced search is very useful and you can arrange your results that can come in the form of THREADS or individual POSTS and sort by relevance, last posting date, creation date....and the list goes on.
The search feature now you just begin typing and pray to god what you search for make something pop up close to what you are wanting. Good luck though because most likely the results are going to be in a terrible non chronilogical order (i have results pop up from 3 years ago....then very next result is from 2018 and all over the place!!)
How in the heck can you perform an advanced search without going down below and changing the theme to something OLD so that you can reach the "advanced search" button
The search plus feature is a piece of junk
Educate me on how the AVERAGE person is not immediately turned off and frustrated by this. If it wasn't for the old theme still avalible down below....i absolutely could not find what i am searching for on this website.

It's difficult to reach the advanced search form using the XDA 2015 theme indeed (I don't know if there's a reason for this...), but you still can use it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php
I'm still in the process to find an easy way to go to this form using the xda 2015 theme though. I can't remind where it is located besides from any user's post history (see my screenshots, click on Search Forums)...
In the 2015 theme, the "regular" advanced search is located at the top of EVRY forum index page. Just click the gear icon next to the search box.
Okay.
This needs to be available at the top of the forums home page and easily identified.
I am not dumb, I am a long time xda user and know I'm not the only one that has struggled to search these forums the last few years.
The "search plus" feature is being thrown in front of us and trying to be forced down our throats but it's awful and it's a project that needs to be abandonned or a choice given at the fourm home portal.

Alternatively, you can use an older xda theme to be able to see a quick link to the advanced search feature on the top of the xda web page.
