I powered my phone on for the first time and it looked sweet. Once I got it connected to VM's network a few secs later, all of the bloatware started auto-installing, and my smile was turned upside down.
How do i get rid of it all?
That happened to me also. I was surprised to find I could just uninstall all of them!

Its happened twice that i can remember now.
This morning in bed I grabbed the phone, deleted some emails, opened the browser and the screen went blank with the sound of a slight crackle. It then instantly revooted (google logo popped up etc).
Im concerned the phone is faulty. Is it likely just one of those things or does it sound more sinister?
Hope somebody can advise.
Mine rebooted once the other day. I don't necessarily think that the phone is faulty, it just has bugs that need ironing out.

it's just the apps
it can happen with any android device
just keep an eye on which app is causing it
you can pull out the logs and scan through it
I've been having the same thing as the OP. I get "Android is Upgrading" when it restarts, too.
In additiona I've seen (several times now) that when I press the power button to turn the screen on, it wont accept any input. After 30 minutes or so it spontaneously restarts and goes to the "Android is Upgrading" message when it restarts.
I'm on the verge of RMI'ing the thing as some of the other guys in the office who have it have not had the same problems.
I'm running vanilla sim free version, no operator tat installed.

Are you running a totally unmodified stock rom or have you flashed a custom rom/kernel/radio to it? Kernels are still being worked on and arent perfect yet.
Also Android 4 is still very new and alot of apps are not fully compatable and subject to crashing or crashing the system.
Everything will be ironed out in time

Hi all,
I purchase my Samsung Galaxy Nexus from 3 (Three) UK Store last Thursday. It has been faultless bar the odd hang which taking the battery out has resolved. Im using it on Orange.
However, this morning I picked up my phone and was notified I had the volume bix fix update.
I downloaded and installed the update and all was well for about 20 minutes.
Then my phone started going crazy!
I think its something to do with the screen as it keeps popping up the google search bar and flicking through some options, then the screen stops responding.
Sometimes the phone flicks between home screens partially and make them jiggle!
Locking and unlocking the phone gives me 5-30 seconds of normal use, then the phone goes crazy or just doesnt respond.
Ive turned the phone off and on, removed the battery and even reset it this evening.
It doesnt do it ALL the time, and whenever I try and do it on queue, it doesnt!
Luckily tonight I got video of the phone going crazy.
Can anyone help?
The phone is bog standard, ie no roms/roots etc.
Should I take it back or is there something I can do?
Also, since ive just reset the phone, ive had to set up my mail. Once the phone behaved I put in my account details and then it started popping up the menu button at the top of email, ie to change folders or accounts etc. Deffinately seems to be something with the top of screen.
Thanks

Please check the video out.
Maybe download the original shipping rom from Google and fastboot the image onto the phone and see if the behaviour continues.

This.
There's links to the original roms with or without the volume fix in place which can be found on the development section. I used this to update my gun and its working just fine. I'm also on Three UK and the reason I did this is because even though the volume bug doesn't affect us three users I still like being 100% up to date.

HI
First time here for me.
I was surfing the net on my t989 and the screen went black. I try to restart but the phone vibrates for one second and nothing happens.
I took out the battery and SIM card and put back the battery, push ON button, phone vibrates but do not start.
I try to charge but it vibrates every 5 seconds, but it doesn't start.
The phone is new - one month - just install 9-10 aplications.
Please help. Thanks

try to get it into download mode, then flash a new rom?
if it isnt rooted it's probably just best to take it to tmo
Well this happened to me as well after doing a backup. I called tmobile and my replacement will be here on tuesaday along with a USB jig that i ordered to see if I can't get her to boot into download mode for me.
can the 2 of you that had the black screen happen let us know what rom/kernel you were using when that happened please? just so we could have a heads up of a warning in case it might be rom/kernel related
I was on stock 2.3.6 deodexed whitehawkx version and faux123 006u kernel.
This happened to me and I fixed it by taking out the battery, plugging the phone to the charger, putting in the battery, pushing On button.

T989 Black Screen
I'm the one that opened this tread and I want to respond to T-Mobile Senior Member.
My phone was the way they sent it to me, with unmodified ROM or anything. I just install some apps. It worked fine for one months but suddenly got black screen. Now it doesn't want to start.
What can I do?

Idk if you're talking to me it not, but I called T-Mobile and my replacement will be here tomorrow. Give em a call.
I mean I'm sure you can get your phone into download mode and Odin it, but sounds like you're not The familiar with that kind of stuff.

Today after some regular and gps usage, my GN blacked out.
I took the battery, sim out waited about 30 secs and tried to fire back up. Nada!
It would flash (camera's flash) me for a split second every time I pressed the power button I couldnt turned the damn thing for nothing.
I, finally gave up and was about to head to the store to get it exchanged but I tried one last time and she powered right up. I have no idea what happened. I just dont want to have issues once my 30-days return, exchange period is up. Any thoughts?

You may have answered your own question. An overlooked glitch in the ROM maybe?
Well if it was a glitch in the rom, why the phone didn't start like how it supposed to once I took the battery out?

My ROMs have no overlooked glitches. Also such issue is most likely doesn't connected with ROM at all.
It didn't boot even in odin or bootloader?
^^nope. Nothing! Everytime I pressed the power button flash in the black lit up for a split second. Thats all the response I got from the phone.

It could be but phone wasnt hot at all...If it gets to the point where the phone needs to shut itself off, I am pretty sure I would feel that when I touch the phone.
I have my phone connected to my watch and utilizing smart lock so I dont need to do pattern or fingerprint unlock. However every morning I need to do pattern unlock and phone will say "Phone is initializing" as if I restarted the phone. Is this normal now on these phones?

Have you set up scheduled reboots in device care by chance? Mine did that this morning but I have it set to restart overnight on Friday mornings.

Thanks. Weird it was set to reboot on Fridays. I never set that. Wonder if that's a default. And I swear yesterday morning I also had do pattern unlock. Maybe I'm trippin. Anyways, I will keep an eye out tomorrow. And I have changed it to reboot on Sundays.
I know I use to use this with devices and if you didn't use the phone for X amount of hours the phone would lock and require a pin/fingerprint, but that was back when I had the pixel, I stopped using it seemed to make me have to put my pin every time I wanted to use google pay instead of just unlocking my phone and paying.
I get that message when rebooting too. I came from a Pixel 3 and it didn't have that when restarting. Not sure if this is a Samsung thing but it makes startup a bit slow comparatively

it's seemingly to do with Knox and the encryption, seems it is to stop people connecting to the locked phone and extracting data in start up.
If you're referring to the message that says phone is starting after you unlock it you can get rid of that by turning this off.
