will it brick?

i want to roo my phone for tetherin, but is it also dangerous? Can i brick my phone by only rooting? because of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=684473, i am not sure about this.
Yes like stated in your quoted thread there is definately a chance that you brick your phone, regardless of which rooting method u'll use.
If you are not in urgent need of rooting i'd wait until the brick issues are sorted and/or Paul from Modaco delivers a new "brick-proofed" method of rooting/flashing custom images
If you just want to tether via USB, you don't need to root at all as support is built in. If you want to tether by Bluetooth, you can get PDANet off the Market which supports this.
If you want to tether via WiFi, you will need to root, and as far as I'm aware there is still a potential (however small) to brick your device (or USB brick).

Dave
You can tether without PDAnet, there is one native to the desire, on the same menu you change from charge to disk drive to internet sharing)) Choose internet sharing and just connect via usb, make sure you have htc sync installed and away you go))
No need for any 3rd party apps

Errhhh - I already said that. I only referred to PDAnet because it allows you to tether via bluetooth.

Debug mode issue is solved, so flash away!

upgrade rom without pc connection

hi everyone!
I got one Tytn where the USB port don't work at all, it's broken totally.
Is it possible to flash his ROM without connecting to PC? How?
I do the research but I didn't found anything.
please help
thanks in advance
actually, I found similar topic for HTC Diamond. Does anyone know is it the same with HTC Tytn? How to upgrade ROM only from Internal Storage?
I don't think that there's a method to flash from internal storage but you can flash a new rom using an SD card.
That method is explained in the wiki right here. I use it all the time because I use linux and I'm too lazy to dual boot to windows just to flash a rom.
Out of curiosity, if the usb port is broken, how do you recharge the device?
well, I have mine Tytn that I use for charging and I have 3 batteries: old one, new and one from that broken Tytn
thanks for replying, that's exactly what I needed.

HTC One x.. Root or not?? advantage and disadvantage... HELP!!!

Hi all, I'm new here, and I'm new with my htc one x.. I love my phone, but it have not otg, and that make me.very sad.. I would like to use otg, but without root my phone.. is it posible?? I don't want to root because I've contact htc support, and they say that if I do that I will lost my warranty, and I will not be able to received updates from htc server updates.. so please help me.. thanks..
You can still recieve the updates from HTC but yes it may void your warranty,
and NO OTG is not supported yet with onex either with stock kernel or custom kernel.
Now you decide for your self.
Rooted advantages:
Remove bloatware s
Remove ads
Call recording
Better sound, camera using mods
Wonderful ROMS
Latest updates even before HTC releases for your phone.
Titanium backup
Etc etc....
Disadvantages:
Chance of Warranty void
Root to get the best of this beast.
root! cz u will love it even more after that
Advantages:
Full Control Over over your phone as u become Superuser
Back Up And Restore The Whole ROM
Install Custom ROMs and Custom kernels and all awesome Mods and themes
Backup your apps and their data using Titanium backup
Overclocking and undervolting
Get earlier updates
Disadvantages:
It voids your phone's warranty
It involves the risk of "bricking" your phone

USB Host mode supported by kholk's Eternity Project Kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1640532
From his thread:
USB Host Mode How-To:
1. Connect an USB cable to your STILL-NOT-POWERED USB Hub
2. Connect at least ONE device to your USB Hub (for example, a pendrive)
3. Connect the other end to your HTC One X (OTG cable required! ID Pin has to be triggered!)
4. Connect external power to your USB Hub
5. Play with your USB devices on your HTC One X
6. Thanks, EternityProject
Note: The USB Host Mode is still EXPERIMENTAL.

check his latest post its working now
new kernel posted on 02.09
Features:
-- Overclocked version: MAX 1.7GHz (1.6GHz if quadcore)
-- USB HOST Mode finally working!
-- Memory and cache management optimizations
-- Modified Cortex-A9 (Tegra 3 core)'s cache behavior.
-- Latest Tegra drivers
-- Deadline I/O Scheduler as default
My bad.. Didn't checked the thread lately.
Thanks for reply.. for info I use a unlock htc one x international (quad core)
When you say warranty is void, what does it mean exactly and what does it implicate?
What is the difference between OTG and USB host??
With USB host I will be able to connect ps3 controller, pendrive, mouse, keyboard or other things like that?
And if I root my phone and then I want to get back to the original version, is it possible? (for the warranty as well)..

warranty void means,, HTC can reject your warranty claims if you unlock your bootloader.
That all depends on the country and service center.
If you root your phone you can go to the orginal version but your bootloader will say relocked.
thats how HTC will know that you have unlocked the bootloader.
Root or not root
You can read this post to find out the advantages and disadvantages of rooting your device. Hope it helps you!
In short, yes it's definitely worth while. Rooting your device opens the door to numerous options not to mention using (first and foremost) Titanium to back everything up in case something goes south.

Rooting HOX is definitely a must if you want to get the max out of it.. Advantages according to my personal experience :
1. Can remove bloatware
2. Can enhance performance as well as battery life with the help of custom kernels and some tweaks.
3. If you like to experiment, you can try different roms.
There are many other reasons depending upon personal preferences

Broken USB port. Am I screwed?

Hey all,
So Ive been wanting to do some app development for my xperia arc, but its proving to be quite difficult without being able to do USB debugging
as my usb port is broken.
Is there no way to do wifi-adb without rooting?
Or, is it possible to root without USB?
Am I screwed?
Thanks
