I guess it's because it's not announced on the Sonymobile site yet
It's on the Sony UK site (albeit coming soon rather than on-sale right now)

That's only 3 or 4 dollars more than Handtec/Clove. I just ordered two DK48's from them along with two Z3C's.

Yeah that's if you don't have to pay VAT, for us here in Europe the difference is about 12$
Yeah, forgot about that. I live in the US, so not VAT for me.
Is there a car dock for the Xperia Z line? My current HTC Amaze has both desktop and car docks, and launches different software/modes based on which one it is in. In the car dock, I have it launch CarHome Ultra and close it when I remove it from the dock. The M8 car dock works like this, but I'd rather have the Z3 compact.
Edit: found a 3rd party one for the z2. I wonder if it'd work for the z3 compact.

Thank you very much! I've been searching for one at Amazon. But I don't think this will fit our compact phone. maybe the normal sized z3 will fit..

I have been messaging a few different companies (Spigen, Ballistic etc) with requests for Z3 Compact support. I would suggest that more people message so that they see there is a demand. Perhaps we'll see some support from them too
I'm really miffed as to why Sony has a full line of accessories, except for a car dock.
I mean, how hard would it be to put a magnetic connector in the top piece of the official "car holder"
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/smartphone-car-holder-spa-ck20m/
I haven't seen an official magnetic charging cable yet and i am surprised it is not included with the phone.
It's such a great feature and would be very cheap to include and would add an immense value to the experience of the phone, would it come in the box.

No, something like what I posted in the link. That's to replace the stereo in your car. Most people don't want to do that, and most cars past the mid 00's have dashes such that a 3rd party stereo wouldn't work anyways.
A standard car dock is all that they need to make; nothing fancy like that in-dash one.
Something like the official HTC One dock
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J7YJZ10/
Though, I'd much prefer one like Sony's desktop dock that would work with the case on.
Wonder if there are any official Sony cases. Haven't seen any yet.

Description as on the "htcpedia" website:
The HTC Car Upgrade Kit for your HTC One X smartphone delivers the comfort and support you need for your smartphone while in your vehicle. This Car Upgrade kit model # CAR D110 is exclusively made for your HTC One X smartphone, and therefore perfectly designed to allow you full access to your One X while in your car.
Once you dock your HTC One X into the car upgrade kit, your phone will automatically launch the car mode app, unleashing full made-for-auto applications such as navigation, footprints, voice search, map view, and make a hands-free call. This car kit also features a plug-in port for charging your HTC One X while docked using a standard micro-USB cable.
Using the included mounting hardware, this car kit can be easily and quickly installed on your car windshield or dashboard.
and on htc.uk http://www.htcaccessorystore.com/uk/p_htc_item.aspx?i=230298&phone=229814 £44.99
on Polish HTC 199pln (with VAT) ~48euro
HERE
Looks nice but £45!?! That's way too much in my eyes, you can buy a complete sat nav unit for that money. I think I'll wait till its released and cheaper options are available on fleabay
You sure these car adaptors are made to use the 5-pin connector already?
Because all the car adaptors I saw till now still used the micro usb port to connect.
Also most pictures on those sites don't show the real item.
Another Carholder for One X from CarComm (in Dutch):
http://www.carcomm.nl/producten/PDA-Smartphone/Active-Cradles/HTC/One-X/?details
that looks rough. the official htc one looks good as it uses the micro pins and saves fiddling - but I agree - its very overpriced. We need a chinese knock off.
The Desire & Desire S equivalents were also vastly over-priced beasts. Never understood their reasoning for the high price. Those suction cup grips also have a habit of letting go in hot weather when you turn a corner.
As my old stock fitted car stereo has no line-in, I'd be more inclined to keep my universal holder (it MAY cope with the size of the One X) and it'd be money better spent on something like this...
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Satechi-Soundfly-Ultimate-Bluetooth-Transmitter/dp/B001DDE4VY
It'd certainly give me something to do with my now redundant 32GB Class10 SD card!
Anyone seen a decent "active" kit yet?
Official "passive" HTC one looks ok but im so anal about wires running over my dash into the car charger. Need an active kit that I can run behind my dash into the car battery, an aux out would be nice too to run into the stereo.
So anyone got one of these? I plan on getting one when I get the phone, some reviews would be nice.

Personally, I'm not going to waste £45 odd on a phone dock for my car. I've bought 2 Brodit car docks for two different phones in the past and I never use a phone for more than a year. It just feels like I'm flushing money down the drain.
Wait for 2-3 weeks and will see many cheap chinese car cradles on eBay. For example, Kidigi is not bad, used it with my old Desire for an year.
Yeah I like the look of the Kidigi holders and they're about half the price of the official HTC one. It would be nice if the Kidigi ones have the dock pin connectors for the One X.
Today as Kidigi customer I've received an email stating that they would show new products including One X holders and cradles this Friday at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair 2012.
I don't know about car holders but here is pic of desktop HDMI cradle:
Why are there 2 different care holders with the number DC110?
I think that only the lowest one is the right one. Maybe the first one is for an other phone.
I always use the brodit holders.
I had the holder from my razr, and the one x fits perfect.

Let us know what it really looks like, i've seen like 5 versions of this thing
I would also like to know if the usb connector can be attached permanently.
When the Xperia P came out, I was hoping to get it just because being able to dock it into something. But that dream didn't come true and I bought the Lovely Xperia S and today I see that Engadget has a cradle for Xperia S (its not made by Sony but still)...Just don't know how would that flap allow this??

Is there any dock that connect to hdmi port and hdmi output? It would better!
According to the Dutch Expansys, it's expected to be available on April 7.

I'm assuming the usb flap won't be an issue because it is indeed very flexible. If it is a problem, scissors work .
What would be better, would be a replacement flap with a hole for port in it.

I thought at first that a nice delete with proper opening would be nice so you would insert a plastic to take care of that ugliness + keep the hole for usb open. Its possible but just someone needs to design and manufacture the part.
I would like to see 2 USB openings. 1 for the charger and 1 for the USB on the go adapter cable.

Hi,

i found another dutch supplier: pdashop.nl
for protection what do you recommend?

or
protective shell: SE Protective Shell black
I foundout that sony released the LiveDock. Who is using it?
still thinking to buy a protective cover. Anyone some experience with leather flip cases or protective shells?
Yep, I would also be interested to hear any feedback on Sony DK10 Live Dock.
This Sony Smart Dock is available on Expansys and according to Phoneareana its compatible with the SXS Looking at the picture it must route the HDMI through the phones USB port.

Who Knows? The Phonearena article I linked to says it will work with the Xperia S, and they quote their source as Sony.
"The Xperia SmartDock is not exactly a new idea - we’ve already seen it demonstrated at CES with the AT&T-bound Xperia Ion, but news is that it will also be compatible with the latest in Xperia’s lineup - the Xperia P, Xperia U and the Xperia S.
The magic of the SmartDock happens on its back where all the ports are included - you have two USB ports to connect your peripherals, and an HDMI port for your TV/monitor. That’s definitely a neat idea given all that processing power lays in your pockets 90% of the time anyway, isn’t it?

As looking at the dock the P seems to be taking up the full slot in the dock, then there is no additional room for the S to fit in there. It was my belief that the S wouldn't fit in there, which does seem a strange choice for a flagship device.

Your right enough. They also have a Smart Dock for the Ion a few vids on youtube which I can't watch just now as on a low bandwidth connection. If you google "sony xperia s smart dock" they all come up.
I wonder if the USB & HDMI connections are on the same side of the xperia P & Ion. If so this might be the reason theres not one available for the S yet.

Here is a picture of the ION smart dock which shows both the Micro USB & HDMI connector on the same side
The only way to do it for the Xperia S would be if Sony enabled MHL for it so HDMI could be connected via the USB. Maybe when we get our ICS update this feature will be enabled and a smartdock released for the Xperia S.
If anyone has one of these MHL to HDMI cables they could test it with the Xperia S.
---------- Post added at 10:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:20 AM ----------
gsmbuy lists the Xperia S as compatible with this MHL cable.
Does anyone know if the Xperia S is MHL compatible? If it is it would be easy enough to make a Dock.

Though they did say the DK31 would have swappable inserts to be able to fit Z1s with a case, perhaps one could be made for ZU.

Why would you do that, when you could just buy the Ultra one?
Or do you have both devices and want to just use the one dock. (which would make the idea of inserts a good one)
It would be cool if you could remove the magnetic pogo cable from the dock and use it as a normal charging cable

Of cos you can! There is two screws under the dock which is covered by the rubbery grip.
Unscrew and ply out the dock, you will be able to use just the wire and the magnetic charger connector.
Try it! I'm using this method for my zu. Works flawlessly!

Does that mean that the dock is just a plastic shell and the cable just runs through it (in other words: is sealed at the magnetic connector)?
If not, there are apparently other alternatives out there already that are cheaper than the dock; you can find one here.
As it is on sale in China already, I wouldn't be surprised if in a month or so, you can buy cheap magnetic charging cables from ebay (just the cable; I wouldn't trust a knock-off adapter ).
EDIT: Never mind my speculation above. I found a post on another forum that clearly shows that trinityb4's way works flawlessly!
EDIT2: Does anyone know whether the magnetic charging port is the same on the XZ1 as on the XZU? If so, here is your first ebay-able charging cable.

Hey man, please, report back to tell if it's worth the money and if it works well with the Z1
I ordered
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAGNETIC-US...-L39H-XPERIA-Z-ULTRA-XL39H-NEW-/390662019994?
approx $12.6 shipped (out of hong kong)
I ordered this one as well http://dx-box.com/magnetic-charging-cable-for-xperia-z-ultra-xl39h.html
But I have since cancelled my pre order of the Z1.
The cable has shipped and is currently on it's way to me.
Would anyone from the UK want to buy mine once it arrives for £10 shipped??

Just thought I'd put this in here for peoples experiences with various car mounts. I've got a Brodit universal mount, but side buttons and charging mounts look to be problematic - so I'm after a new one!
The Sony mount looks about as good as I've seen so far, but it's silly expensive:

Using on motorbike, secure and perfect size for phone :good:
I posted this in another thread...
Pics of my Z3C in my ugrip dock as promised. As you can see, there is no problem gripping the phone while avoiding the power, volume, and camera buttons while at the same time leaving the magnetic charge port open. I can also say that the Deff micro usb to mag charge adapter is VERY strong (I can lift the phone off a table with it) and I cannot see how this would come loose while driving unless I got in a wreck - at which point all bets are off anyway. Also, given my previous experience with this dock over the last 2-3 years I am 100% confident that it will be able to easily hold the phone without issue, even with the offset grip. I always docked my bigger, heavier, nexus 5 offset from center - zero issues.

Looks very tidy. Though I was slightly concerned to notice in the above picture, old chap, that you appear to missing your steering wheel.
lol yep we have a thing for putting them on the left side of the car here. [emoji12]

why not this?
That holder looks ok, I've ordered a similar one to see how it works. I need mine to fit onto a brodit clip though, which is an added problem for finding a suitable one.
The magnet in my deff adapter is ok, but the it's really easy for it to knock itself off charge if the phone gets moved at all. Not sure how well this will hold up in a car.

Best and most adjustable car mount I've ever used
Thanks, that looks really useful. Ordered to try one out.
Hoping to see the z3 compact version of this one:

The Z3C should fit. The are almost the exact same dimensions.

The z3 is 0,9mm thinner. Maybe it won't be fixed completely or the magnet isn't right aligned..

Waiting for my Z3c to arrive after being a HTC user for a while but I have been using this dock in my car, goes into the cd player - Mountek nGroove Snap 2
I have a case on my phone with the small magnet that comes included (along with 2 other larger sized magnets for tablets or for an even better, stronger connection) in the package attached on the inside of the case so you can't see it. Very convenient for me to hop into the car and just put my phone on it. The HTC one is a heavy phone and it has never fallen off, even going over bumps or rougher terrain. It does slide down a little sometimes, but can just push it back up a little.
I'd recommend that to you guys.
That is so weird. Doesn't the CD player object to having a thing inserted that it can't spin?
Still, CD players are redundant, so it makes sense. That seems like a nice system, assuming the slot is high up on the dash.

It doesn't go that far into the slot to trouble the spindle or any moving parts.

Put an extra layer of padding on the back, and you are all set.

That one looks great for the charging part but I'm a little concerned... do you have to SCREW it to your car?
Hi,
I'm looking for an affordable vr headset for my zte axon 7. has any of you guys got one that fits?
I'd like to get one from gearbest.com or similar . We have to take into account that the headset should not put pressure onto the power or volumes buttons.
I'd also like to have holes for the headphones and charging cable.
thx
ZTE has their own headset, I got it free as part of their promotion when I bought my Axon 7.
As for apps on the ZTEVR, the app provided is some custom version of VRSense made for ZTE, apps is quite limited and everything is in chinese though I tried some apps off play store for VR and they work, oh and did I mention it has pirated movies lol.
Quality wise its acceptable, dont expect too good experience since its a phone VR anyway. Not sure where you could buy them tho.
As for where to get them, you can try taobao or smth, some include the ZTEVR as gift when you buy Axon 7 from them (Cheaper today too cuz some 12/12 promotion UTC+8)
I got the reTrak Utopia 360 headset. They work reasonably well and have openings on the sides to access the headphone jack and usb port.
Fiit vr 2S is just a fine piece of plastic to go with Axon7. Missing action button though
Does anyone found zte vr headset on the web (original one) ? I can not finde any sort of pages that would like to sell it.
Regards.
I want a VR headset where you don't have to remove your case every single time.
The Axon 7 new Nougat ROM has been certified by Google as Daydream compatible and it is about to be released. My advice is to wait for that. Cardboard is very limited. The new platform is far more powerful and in a few months nothing will be compatible with cardboard since new apps will require the new remote to interface with the software.
For cardboard, I have tested the Cynoculars. I bouth them for my daughter for less than $20 at Walmart and came with a bluetooth remote (not Daydream compatible of course). But my advice is to get the Google Daydream VR to be future-proof.
Best bet right now is to go for the Daydream View headset.
Can you use the Samsung VRs for daydream?

vr headsets are not the same as daydream vr headset as far as i know.
You can use any headset for Daydream if you use a old/spare phone as the remote. There is an official emulator I believe that turns any phone running 4.4 or newer into a daydream remote.
I personally like the Bobo VR Z4 (apparently previous versions were trash). It has acceptable built in headphones (with volume control), a good range of focus (I wear glasses and I don't need them with this,) and adjustable interpupillary distance. IMHO the adjustments make it better than the daydream at 1/3 to 1/2 the cost. It is probably less comfortable for long viewing sessions than the daydream due to it's greater weight and slightly more rigid nose piece.
I have Bobo VR Z4, it works pretty well with Axon 7.

Well, not any phone can be setup as a remote, it must have a gyroscope and that is not included in many phones.

Ah. Good point. I had read that as meaning any 6 axis accelerometer. I see that it's much more restrictive than that. Fortunately my old HTC One S should work. If the 7.x update would hurry up and release.
If any of you are interested, Daydream View headset price is being reduced to $49 in the Google Store until February 25th

Daydream now only $50 right now. $30 off. USA only I think.
Someone could tell me where it is possible to buy one daydream headset : the Google one // the zte one...
Note that I am from Belgium and it is not in sale in the official Google store (and I am not ready to pay 100€+ on ebay/amazon sellers).

I bought Google Daydream VR headset.
Bestbuy had it for $50.
So is Google Daydream still the way to go for this? I got an Aldi headset but it just works as cardboard. I can already see this will be good for watching movies with Axon 7 whilst flying. Need to be able to use earbuds with it to prevent disturbing other passengers though, and plug in a charge cable for powerbank.
Edit: After playing a movie from a cardboard vr app the phone got pretty hot. Had it on charge same time so it's just not practical as a more immersive movie viewing method. VR in a phone is sort of useless because of this. It worked fine though.
I think it needs a standalone headset with onboard processing and screens to unload the phone resources. No good having it if heat and battery consumption are too high.
Edit: Returned my Aldi (Cocoon) VR headset and got a Kaiser Baas VR-X Pro as it has a built in Bluetooth media controller.

I'm not into games but will persevere with movies. Actually looking to get a cheap pair of glasses specifically for this, maybe even just a pair of lenses with no frame so I can stick them to the inside of the lens frame in the VR-X Pro. It has good phone ventilation and easy access to the ports for headset and charge plus I like the clamp which is quick and easy and can keep the stock case on the phone. Might get a google daydream view once it's released here too.
Found a VR theatre app I like. It works with the media controller and has good settings to maximise the view.
