I'm running twrp 2.7.1 and have quite a few problems but I'll just start out with the backup and restore options.
The tutorials I've reviewed instructs to simple backup your stock rom and to reinstall, choose the file and restore.
Why isn't the wipe and factory restore procedure performed?
I followed the instructions and attempted to restore the latest backup but when I hit reboot I get the no OS installed warning, this is without any wipe. I doubled check the checksum of this backup for accuracy.
If I choose the earliest file from the restore list, I get no OS warning and am able to reboot back to the "older" flash of the stock rom. I actually performed the same procedure after a failed install of a custom rom with wipe. Got the OS warning after loading the latest backup but no warning with the oldest.
This only scratches my problem but I'd like to address and hopefully fix this first.

If the nandroid was made with a different version of twrp, maybe try reflashing that version and try again.
Alternatively, you could just flash whatever rom is backed up, then try to only restore the data portion.

Just tried your suggestion choosing latest backup and restoring data only. Now after the splash screen it wants to setup language, email etc. again.
What I meant was flash whatever rom it was that you were trying to restore. If its the sane rom in another backup that's fine though. Did the data restore pass the md5 check?
You can try again, but afterwards go to twrps advanced menu and copy log to SD. It may provide some clue as to what's wrong. Attach it here if you want me to take a look.

Well I'm starting to think twrp is corrupt.
I tried to load the ndroid backup I made yesterday but the log showed it was done in 8 seconds. I attempted to flash back to the original image I made 2 months ago which I have been successful doing..I thought everything was flashing when I noticed the screen is now says...
Could not do normal boot.

Sounds like something got corrupted, or you need to try with a different recovery. Either way its in download mode for flashing with Odin.

Have you tried using Philz Touch? I was using TWRP but ran into problems flashing ROMs. I switch to Philz and the problems went away.
Unfortunately, Philz can't restore TWRP nandroid backups.
Could I please get some advice on what to do next?

the only thing i can think of (and hopefully someone more knowledgeable will chime in) is if in twrp settings see if 'md5 check ' is checked. if it is then uncheck it and try to flash again. srry thats all i got right now. (or bad idea doc ?)

Try flashing from internal SD. Don't know why but its worked for a couple other people so far. If it still doesn't work, please use the copy log to SD option and attach it here.

I suggest Philz Touch as a substitute for TWRP. I was having problems with TWRP until I switched to Philz.
I noted that I tried to flash from the internal card but twrp could't find the folder I created.
Twrp still didn't see the files after i moved them out of the folder and placed them among the other folders.

Open a file explorer like es file explorer..create a new folder and put the ROM zip in the external SD..I had to do that and I use cwm
I created files with Astro file manager but twrp still doesn't see them on the internal card just the external but won't open the zips.
I'm just not getting much feedback on my problem. Will posting on a different forum help?
If the external sd is formatted as exFat, recovery may not be able to read it correctly. Since its a 64gb card, I bet this is the problem.
Have you gone into the mounts menu and remounted your internal sd and/or /data? Maybe its just not mounted...
You might also want to try twrp 2.6.3.1 or 2.8.0.1. You can get them from the link in my sig.
Or try philz recovery as suggested before.

All right, first thing first. Thanks to everybody for this amazing forum and all support.
Well. Here's my story:
1) Planned on installing CM10 nightly
2) Went to recovery (TWRP v2.2.0) and by mistake wiped everything :/ (Cache, Dalvik Cache, Factory Reset, System Internal Storage)
3) In effect i wiped everything including system.
4) Still have access to TWRP and download mode.
Does anybody have a clue how to fix that and install CM10 again?
PS.
1) internal storage does not mount under system (WIN7)
2) TWRP does not recognize microSDXC (32gbz) formated to either exFat or NTFS. (Tried 4 (four) of them)
Should i buy another micro sd like 2gb, format it to Fat32 and drop CM.zip there ? Or need i do something else?

Hey thank you for quick answer. Do you know if there is any limitation for TWRP? It does not read my 32gb MicroSDXC.
Go into download mode and re flash then stock rooted rom.
Then install your twrp and try cm again.

Personally, I would (try to?) use adb with the phone booted into TWRP to transfer the ROM you want to flash over to the phone's internal storage, and go from there.
If that's not a possibility for whatever reason, you'd be best off starting by reflashing a stock rooted image with Odin and going from there.
Well. First of all thank you all for all your help in support. Got it back to stock with root (Odin flash). However there is another small problem that i can't figure out. TWRP itself seem not to have access to anything. I mean it sees all / but after openning /sdcard or anything else all it sees is empty folders. It doesn't have an access to external sd either (when you check log it sees that it couldn't mount ext sd correctly [even if after boot to stock system it recognizes it witout any issues).
Any idea how to solve this problem? What has been tried:
1) Reflash recovery (TWRP 2.2 using ODIN)
2) moving all files to /
3) RootExplorer see files (cm.zip) after reboot TWRP doesn't
4) Installing GooManager (it crashes after granting supersu permissions)

With all those problems, flash to stock rooted and start over. You will be better off in the long run. You may want to also format your external sd.
Don't flash twrp with Odin.

Dl and use goo manager to get twrp

GJ take it sure and slow. Other than flashing stock/rooting form Odin I wouldn't flash anything form Odin. Once you have super user on your phone, leave Odin out and do everything from phone
That's the safest route and it gets easier from here. The countless hours you spent are much easier the more you do it. Shouldn't take more than 20 minute to backup and flash roms and new apps from now on

Almost done. But here are another tiny problems that just bother me and but I think they're solvable.
1) GooglePlay suddenly gives "No Connection" error, even though every other app that requires connection (Messenger, Browser) work just fine.
Have to mention that it worked for a while, installed couple apps (drop some more to install in queue and when I woke up - FAIL!)
Things done:
-Forced to stop
-ClearedData & Cache
Is there any other solution to fix it rather than reflashing gapps ?

1. you are flashing a version of gapps that is out of touch with your rom or you did not flash it correctly/cleanly. I remember no matter how many times I flashed gapps I wouldn't get it to sync. Backed all user apps to Titanium backup. Did a clean install from scratch, and wallah it worked. Last sort.
Without doing that though there is usually one that is compatible that is listed on your rom page. Flash that one. For me that is 10/22 but I remember it giving that same error for a while so I ended up flashing the previously compatible version before that which was 7/26. Goo.im might help here, I haven't used it myself. Once you find a working gapps version etc. Store your 'safe' builds in one folder
2. Not sure what you mean. When you click your phone you should see internal and external storage on your phone. They are what they say they are. People tend to piss on not being able to find the right file size and folder attributes on this phones usb mount. It is a common problem. Probably one of the few problems on the phone. Annoying but manageable

1) Ended up reflashing gapps with goomanger (script to TWRP)
2) What i mean is that under phone it recognizes them perfectly. Just when I connect phone through USB to PC, my PC tends to mix them up. Just shows ExSD as Internal and Internal as ExSD. No biggy, just tried to fix as many tiny issues as possible before I hit deployment.

Hi all,
I have had my Note II for a day now and I love it but I seem to have an issue. I rooted and installed CWM 6.0.1.5 (modified version by Phil I believe) using Odin and I of course made a backup of my stock rooted ROM before I started flashing anything but when I tried to restore my Nand it says that it cant find the files and cant open the location. The CWM backup file IS there cause I can see it when I plug my phone into my computer but it wont restore and yes... I've tried EVERY restore option there is in CWM - Restore, Advanced Restore, Restore from External, Advanced Restore from External, so on and so on...
Can anyone tell my why I cant restore my Nandroid? This concerns me as well should I ever need to restore my backed up EFS as again, it just wont restore anything from CWM.
Anyone else with this issue or know what to do about it?

When I choose to flash anything from Internal SD it is now taking me to a list that shows /0, /obb and /legacy (or something like that) and then I have to choose /0 in order to gain access to my actual Internal files.
I actually have 2 of these sets of folders some how after flashing so now when I try and flash from Internal SD I have to choose /0 AND THEN ANOTHER /0 to access the internal card from CWM. This is quite weird and annoying to say the least. This behavior is also shown when searching my device using ANY file explorer and when I connect my phone to my computer as well - IE. I have all of these extra folders showing.
Can ANYONE explain why this is happening and how to avoid it if at all possible? Is this just something new in 4.2? I am currently running Jellybam 3.52 - 4.2.1 ROM.

Is your Nandroid backup from CWM or TWRP?
I've seen articles regarding the backup function of CWM, the backup files have to be in the following path on either the Internal or External SD Card. I'll use the below path as an example for an external SD card.
externalsdcard/clockworkmod/backup/[What ever you want the backup to be]
When you use the restore function from CWM and navigate to Restore from External/Internal SD Card. It should come up with the name of the folder you chose in [What ever you want the backup to be] and be able to restore your Nandroid backup.

My Nand is in CWM. I dont use TWRP.
As I said... My backup is on my internal sd card in the exact same format as you described but when I go to CWM and try to restore it first says "cannot open directory" and then immediately says "no files found"
Ive been using CWM since my original SGS and I have never seen this happen before. I can see it in my File Explorer, I can see it on my computer when I plug in the device but I cant get CWM to find the file to restore it.
Im about as confused as it gets...
Im testing something right now... I am making a new backup of my Jellybeer ROM to my External SD card to see what happens. IF it will find the files after its done I will advise but I still dont get why it wont restore from my internal card...?
*EDIT* So it seems to have backed up to the ext. sd card and I can see this file when I choose to restore from ext. sd but... it was the FASTEST backup Ive ever seen. It literally took like 45 seconds if that so I hope its a full back up!
IF my memory serves me correctly... When I backed up my stock ROM (my initial back up), I checked for the restore when it was done and it was there but then I flashed Hyperdroid and then I flashed PACman and then tried to restore my original Nand and it wouldn't let me so I wonder if I flash something else (which i don't want to do right now cause Jellybeer is serving me well at the moment) am I going to lose the ability to flash my Nand again?

Thanks for the reply but... What would cause this to happen? Did you read my post where I backed up to my external sd card? Like I said... The backup literally only took like 45 seconds to complete which is weird unto itself.
What will flashing a stock ROM do to fix this? And when you say "stock" do you mean like "stock - unrooted"?
did u install cm 10. just read it propyl with cm 10.1 ie jb 4.2 creates a 0 folder all ur files get put in there

Chenglu is the one I used when I rooted my device by using Dr. Ketans guide and now I cant get ANY of my NAND backups to restore...
With regard to the /0 file issue - Yes... I am running a 4.2.+ CM10.1 based ROM so I understand that it creates those /0 files but it just keeps on creating them after flashing anything new!!!
Your issue is related to the new JB 4.2 and multi-user feature. CWM cannot find backups since they are moved to a different folder
The day you need your backup, just install a JB 4.1.2, move your /0 folder to root of sdcard and run your nandroid

Thanks for the reply my friend! So...you're saying that IF and when I need to restore my nand that I will have to install a 4.1.2 ROM first and then follow your instructions to move the /0 folder to the root of my sd card (i assume by using a file explorer of some kind in the 4.1.2 ROM itself?) and then flash my nand? Is that correct? Should I keep just any old 4.1.2 ROM on my device at all times for this purpose?
If so then what if I have multiple /0 files created as I do now? Currently I have 2 /0 folders and this seems to grow as I flash anything new. Do I then move ALL of the /0 folders to the root of my sd card before I can restore my nandroid backup?
Also... Why was I not able to restore from my external sd card using the option in your recovery either? I made a simple backup of my current 4.2.+ ROM to my external card and when I tried to restore it last night to test it said MD5 mismatch. Is this related to the 4.2 ROM issue as well?

delete 0 folder
flash cwm recovery with odin go into mounts
wipe caches and format system when done
power down then go into download mode
then flash stock img
that worked for me

Flash CWM with odin and then go into mounts? Firstly, what version of CWM are you saying to flash and then I assume you mean once thats done that I should then boot into recovery and then go into mounts? And then wipe caches, format system?

when in recovery wipe data n dalvik then go into mounts then format system
then power down,
then download mode,
use odin to flash stock img

What I did was... I flashed v6.0.2.7 via ODIN (which has 4.2.+ ROM support) and I am now FINALLY able to restore my Nand back ups!!! The only thing now is that I apparently have 3 /0 folders on my device and I REALLY just want to know how to get rid of the extra folders and to know how to keep them from being created altogether!!!
I have one that has ALL of the original .zip files, gapps, etc that I installed on my device, then I have one that has an efs backup on it somehow and has a couple of application folders in it and then I have one that is like stock.
Why are these being created and how can I get rid of them? This is driving me CRAZY!!!
I had the same issue this morning.
I fixed it by installing the aroma file manager addon in Phil's CWM recovery and using aroma to copy the clockworkmod folder out of the /0 folder and back to the root of the sd card.
Then when I went into backup and restore the backup was visible again.
Once you have a rom installed you shoudl just be able to plug in via usb and just browse the sd card on your computer to move everything back out of the /0 folder

You can install nandroid manager from playstore and you can fix nandroid md5 mismatch there or you can use terminal emulator to generate new md5 file in your nandroid (google it because i cant remember the command)

Is that cwm recovery on sdcard??? Please move it on your ext card and recover .
Or you got an md5 mismatch ? Use mismatch fixer or see my thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681072

CWM nandroid backup is making too large of a backup of data..possibly multiple of the same data...the backup kept failing because it was using up my whole sd card..32 gb of it...when I restarted my phone and when to check the backup directory there were mulitple files of the data.ext4.a,(note the last letter extention) data.ext4.tar.b, data.ext4.tar.c all the way to .p assuming it was going to make it up all the way to z or whatever...the files were of the same size
i need help i want to make backup so i can clean install CM10.1 again
Not sure what could be the issue or if this will help, but maybe try updating your recovery if possible or use TWRP Recovery instead? If you try TWRP, I recommend using an Odin tar file or a flashable zip as opposed to GooManager, as it's been known to soft brick devices.
Also, you could try *backing up* and then formatting your internal & external SD cards, and restore your files after doing a nandroid.
I have already installed twrp thru goomanager.all is good now...although the backup kept failing,so I took a chance and erase the whole phone and reinstalled cm10.1..and all is good and able to backup again..I wonder what the problem was though..

I have similar issue here, i guess it is because my /dev/bootimg is generating a very large image. Looks like a problem with emmcm where this device is mapping the whole /dev/block/mmcblk0.
I put TWRP on it and can boot to recovery. However, it fails flashing the Cyanogenmod zip because (it says) you need to wipe the device due to an incompatible device layout. So I tried that and naturally it wiped the zip off the /sdcard. Then I mounted the sdcard from TWRP but I couldn't write to it from my computer. (I could see the now-empty drive.) So I said what the heck and rebooted the system and had a like-new device.
I had backed that up before I did anything. So transferred another copy of the cyanogemod zip to the tablet, rebooted to TWRP and tried to install it again. Still no luck. I then transferred my backup to my tablet and restored the backup so I'm back where I started.
Is there another way I haven't thought of?
I put 12 on my n5110 before I found slim rom 4.4.4. Had no trouble with the install of either one. Have you tried putting the cm zip on the external sd card and installing from that using twrp? I also think you can use either Odin or adb but as I recall the methodology will be different. Lots of people with a lot more experience here maybe someone else has some suggestions as well.

currently I am running CyanogenMod 13 on my Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini (serranoltexx). Now, as it get's outdated and insecure, I am about to update it to LineageOS. But I am worried, because I can't just flash the ROM over CM, but I have to wipe everything. Sure, I can take backups of all my data, but my question is:
What do I have to select in Clockworkmod Recovery in order to clean up for LineageOS? And the second point is that I parted my SD-Card to use Android's option to emulate one partition as internal storage. So if I wipe, can I keep the partitions and what do I have to save before?
Oh and.. I have tried to do a Nandroid Backup, but I can't copy it onto my PC because the storage is mounted differently within CyanogenMod (the 2 partitions I wrote about) and ADB doesn't work for this either.
I hope somebody can help me

I'm glad to say that I have done it yesterday. The thread can be closed and for all who have the same questions I had:
First of all I took a backup of all my data (Apps, Music, Photos etc) and put LineageOS, GApps & SuperSU on my SD-Card. Then I booted into my recovery (CWM) and wiped all data. Unfortunately it didn't work (CWM said something like "error in lineageos.zip") so I decided to use TWRP for it. There was just an unofficial build but I didn't care too much, so I used this one. It was an img file, so I needed to convert it to .tar.md5 first using a tool I found in the Internet. So I flashed TWRP then using Odin. When I booted into TWRP everything seemed to work, but when I tried to install the zip file it just rebooted immediately without an installation. So I finally used ADB sideload, and it finally worked! Now my phone is working fine!
