[Q] Unlimited Data Throttle?? - T-Mobile HTC One (M8)

Hey I was just wondering whats the cap with Unlimited data now. I know it used to be 10GB then dropped to 5GB. But I'm not sure what it is now.

I believe that of you have the truly unlimited data plan for $30 then there is no throttle unless you break the terms of service by using torrents or p2p networks.

Get Metro PCS. I'm currently using it and its great! I have their unlimited LTE data package. No data throttling at all for $60 cash!!! Metro PCS is essentially T-Mobile but with crappy customer service and no wireless hotspot.

No cap, I use about 130gb-150gb per month and have yet to be throttled.

Awesome thanks for the reply guys!

So who will be switching over? I probably am since I currently have the $30/5GB plan and it seems like a no brainer. Great to see T-Mobile do this.
I will be.

Don't they charge a $250 migration fee or something absurd, every time you change your plan?
You are right though:

Is that $30 on top of the data plan? Or is it all together $30? Idk if I'm wording this correctly lol

It appears it will be free if you already have the unlimited (5GBP)(like me). It says upgrade to unlimited from 2gb for $10. Thats $30

Probably in preparation for the I phone 5 launch.
I have a question though. Let's say we got the truely unlimited plan can we still use the tethering option in cm10 without getting caught?
Hopefully they just add $5 more to the 30/monthly 4G plan.

I just hope tmobile's network will be able to take the hit from all of us data hogs + the new ones who will be making the switch. That's the only thing that worries me because it would suck to be on an unlimited data plan that only crawls along web pages and streaming.

Just root and use Wifi tether for Root users and no one will ever find out you're using your S3 as a hotspot.

I'm not very versed in tethering but I read that tmo was still catching tethering on the "back end"??? So they are able to see it anyway.

there's a way to do it never fear. They can't catch SH$#
I was a little bummed that I left sprint after 9 years and was missing my sprint unlimited everything and have been keeping a good eye on my usage now with TMO so I dont go over. Now I'm really glad I switched over. Currently on the value $64.99 (500 min, unltd texts, and 5gb data) plan and from the looks of it I'll be paying $5 more to get the unlimited everything. Cant wait for the 5th! The plus side of Tmo is I get 4g speeds in 99% places I go and didnt have to wait for LTE to roll out for sprint.

Customer retention can offer you unlimited 5GB data for $20 (this does not have the tethering option) and it can be added now, no need to wait till the 5th. They only have the 5GB plan, i already asked about the 2GB for $10 and they said they don't have that offer. I didn't take this option even though it is $10 cheaper (I currently have the grandfathered unlimited data & text for $35) cause I always find myself tethering my laptop or tablet during travel when the hotel wireless is spotty.
I just got the 5 gig from retention but the rep states that I still will only have a five gig cap is this true? or does he know what he's talking about? I'm thinking he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. But got that plan from retention for 20 bucks a month

If you received the preferred android data plan then yes it will have the soft cap of 5 GB a month then slows down to 2G speeds.

Simple data plan 200mb of 4g

They recently changed this plan to "unlimited" where as before it was pay per megabyte. After your reach your limit you get throttled to almost a crawl. Figure this was worth a mention for those looking to cut corners. I know I will probably switch temporally to save a few extra bucks. I use a lot of data but I can contain it on wifi, also Pandora still works pretty good on 2g and less hicups that with Virgin Mobiles 3g (true story) I need internet as I need if for text message as I use Google Voice other wise I would probably just do with out.

Actually i had that plan and after you reach your data of 200 mb,you get charge of .10 cents a mb up to 25.00 dollars and then they throttle you unless they change the plan all together.i tried to get the unlimited nationwide 4g but couldn't since i have a grandfather plan...so i went with the 5gb unlimited with free tethering...

Did you even read the first sentence of the thread?

So, has anyone seen the new prepaid plan?

Not sure if this should be in general, as it is a question. xD
But a month after purchasing my galaxy s 3 and signing a 2 year contract for the unlimited plan, t-mobile decides to make the 30 dollar 5G data unlimited text 100 minute plan to UNLIMITED data. And for me to switch it would cost approx 600 dollars -.-
Has anyone else seen this?
haven't seen any update on their official website so I'm a little confused :/

the $30 plan is not true(when are they ever) unlimited it caps you at 5GB 3g/4g and throttles you to EDGE once you get to 5GB. i've had this plan since the day it was introduced sometime fall of last year. its an ok plan if you dont rely on it as your only internet source or dont need minutes. i use skype and have wifi at home so it works for me. but i do reach the cap more often than not.

I'm a bit confused by the OP, why would it cost $600 to break your contract and switch to the prepaid plan?
(I understand that you're no longer interest in switching since you found that the plan is capped but I'm still curious about this point)

does unlimited data loophole still work?

on verizon ATM and wanting to get back on att - looking to see if the loop hole still working on att since i have unlimited data on verizon atm. i was told i need an iphone 2g and need to activate the via itunes and pick unlimited data /200 txt and then call nd upgrade unlimited data to the 4g unlimited data - can anyone point me in the correct direction or let me know if it STILL works? thanks
From what I have read that no longer works.
I got all the way to finding an old 2g several months ago. Reading at that time the loophole had been closed. If it has reopened I may look into an un activated sim and give it a try.

When do they begin to throttle your data speeds? AT&T is 5GB (thank god today started a new billing cycle)..
I read on Slashdot that att doesn't track port 53 (dns) traffic.. To cheat you could in theory just get a tiered plan and do all Web traffic through a port 53 proxy....

I'm up to 20 gbs this month although I have no idea how. Used to only use 5 or 6 at the most. Granted I torrented a couple of movies but not an extra 15 gigs worth, maybe 4 gigs. Plus when I look in settings under data usage it's saying I used 13 gigs or hotspot when I KNOW that's not possible. Anyone else notice this?

I was on the unlimited 4G $20 plan a few months ago then moved back down. Once I noticed that the plans changed I contacted T-Mobile through their online chat and they put me back on the old unlimited plan. They didn't put up too much of a fight, and now I am grandfathered in :good:
Dude for years I had 39.00 plan unlimited everything. That was my bill for 4 years and I used to tether before most people knew about it. I lost my 2 years ago so I had to turn off my service, just got it back on in Feb of this year and I was like WTF is everyone crazy with those prices!
Still wanted the same plan so I did even though it kills me to pay it but I like my Note 3.
