[Q] How to encrypt & decrypt your phone + SD card? - One (M8) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hy,
I have a couple of questions... If I want to encrypt the data of my phone+sd storage, I do it in the settings and set the pin/password.
But then there are things I find disturbing/dont know:
1: When select encrypt sd card, all is greyed out and my pc doesnt recognise it anymore. How do I copy my images to the pc?
2: If I encrypt the phone storage also, how can I access this?
So what I'm wondering is that, how can I even make backup if I cannot access storages through pc?
I though there is option for decrypt (with your passcode) ?
Thank you for your answers

There is probably a better way, but for me i just use dropbox to sync everything to my pc's.

[Q] Backup encrypted SD card files

I recently had to hard reset my TP2 (but removed the SD card prior). After the reset I inserted my SD card hoping I could retrieve files saved there, but it turns out that neither my phone or PC no longer reads them because they're encrypted - but it's the same phone. I'm not clear why the same phone would not be able to read those files.
After looking through the forum and further research, it seems those files are just plain gone - or at least not able to be opened. Is that true? I could see them on my pc (through a card reader), but could not open them through the phone or pc. My company enforces the encryption on the phone and the card.
So my main question is this: How do I back up these files so that I can retrieve the data on them if I should be forced to do another hard reset? I downloaded some purchased games to the card, some cab files, and a little music. I'm mostly just concerned about the purchased files. If I just copy them to another folder on my PC, don't they remain encrypted?

Bitlocker corrupted Internal SD storage

I plugged my phone into my new Win 7 laptop at work. I needed to copy some files. It said I had to encrypt the drive to be able to copy files. I figured I'd have to decrypt the drive after I copied the files for things to work properly again.
During encryption, Bitlocker froze. Then my phone froze. Long story short, I can't access the internal sd card. USB mass storage won't turn on when I plug the phone into my laptop. I'm fine with losing all data that was on the card...I just want it to work again. I can't save anything to the internal sd card. It's as if it's not there. Maybe it just needs mounted?
Any help is much appreciated.
I think I got it figured out.
I flashed back to EL26 from AOKP and the encryption picked up where it left off. So hopefully I'll be able to decrypt it and still have all my stuff.
bitlocker destroyed my Galaxy Note...
Did this work? I've had EXACTLY the same problem!! Hassle is I don't have admin rights on my computer at work so it's going to be awkward getting someone to decrypt the drive... :-/

[Q] Phone storage (SD card) not visible after updating to JellyBean. Was encrypted.

I have a stock HTC One X. It was not rooted, nor unlocked.
Encryption was enabled on the phone.
Today, after receiving and applying the JellyBean OTA update, I can't see the SD card anymore. Most apps complain that it is unmounted.
If I connect the phone to the computer over USB, I don't have the "disk drive" option anymore, and I can only see a "HTC Sync Manager" partition with the HTC Sync software on it, which was not there before.
If I go into Settings/Storage, I have in the "App storage" section a 30.18 GB Other entry, which I assume is the SD card. The "Phone storage" section is listed a s Unavailable, and grayed out.
Can I somehow make the SD card visible again? Even if it means losing the data on it (I had backup).
Are u on the custom recovery (cwm 5.8.4.0)
Enter recovery - mounts & storage - at the bottom of that menu is mount as USB
Try that
Sorry not rooted nor unlocked. Did u update the HTC drivers , could be helpful
When i plug it in i see sync manager just like you but i also see the mtp drive as HTC one x ...
I dont know if it is what u mean, but after JB the way u get acces to your storage when you connect it to the PC has changed, is no longer a mass storage device, u can't no longer do the "safe removal" from taskbar and its not shown along with your other disks in My PC.
I use app backup and restore, and when it first opened it warned me that no sd card was found mounted, but it still works

Retrieve / Restore Data on Adopted External SD Card After Flashing Firmware

On Android Nougat (LineageOS), I flashed firmware and ended up re-installing LineageOS, etc. Recovery (TWRP) did not see my SD Card, and LineageOS sees it, but wants to format it even though it has tons of data presumably. I had it configured as 'adopted' storage. Same device. does flashing firmware erase the SD card or re-create the key? I had it setup as 'adopted storage' and all my TWRP backups are on it. Can I retrieve this data? Is it even still there?
If I do need to re-format, should I still use the 'adopted storage' choice? I want to make sure that whatever I store on the SD card will be usable after I flash a new ROM, firmware, etc. Is it just a matter of meticulously backing up all the data from the device while it is in a working state? Boy, I don't want to start over if I can avoid it!
Thanks!

Adopted storage extends your internal space, I always use external storage, but I have a 32gb phone.
If you want to access data after reflashing rom you must use external storage.
And for the data recovery I don't know if it's a chance to recover it.
Ok.. looks like I am going to start over. If I choose external storage, can I install apps on the external, and use it for storing the same kinds of data and expect the phone to use it, just not the same contiguous virtual partition/volume?

AT&T Z2 Force - Is there no option to encrypt SD card?!

I plugged in an sd-card to get some much needed storage for photos and such, but now I don't see any option to get it encrypted. Is there none?
