[Q] Problem with music - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have disruption in the songs when I listen to music with headphones. The weird thing is that it happens only when the screen is off. When it turned on it works smoothly.

This is an issue with most roms, to fix either keep your CPU on performance mode(will kill battery) or use a script to push the CPU to max frequency when music is played.

try the agni kernel, most users of dn3 are saying it helps keep the music stutter away plus its great with battery life.

I'm using the last variant for 4.4.2, PC1, and it have security updated, so, agni kernel don't work with this version. What i have to do? 3 years with this phone and this problem with music always annoying.

Unstable CPU

Hi guys,
Just picked up this phone early in the week. A couple of issues I'm having:
Using stock/rooted Rom the phone will
(1)sometimes reboot after turning on Bluetooth.
(2)Google music will skip every few seconds. I thought it might be my internet connection but it doesn't happen on my tablet connected to the same router.
Using stock/rooted Rom & cm9 nightly I have noticed that the CPU fluctuates between lowest voltage and highest voltage every few seconds even when idle. Is this a common issue or did I get a lemon?
Thanks!

Sounds pretty much in line with this issue I had, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24179363&postcount=4 . I would also suggest getting a replacement.
Also what did you use to track your voltage/cpu issues? I would like to make sure there is no issues with my 2nd P930 before I flash CM9.
Thanks.

Thanks. I was using the stock LG applications manager app. It shows CPU%. On cm9, I was looking under the performance settings where it shows current CPU voltage.
Taking it back today. I really want to love this phone. Hope I get a good one.

Why is my battery life so bad?

I see that some people have the Galaxy Nexus and get 12 hours of battery life!
Lately, mine has been worse and worse- and the ROM doesn't seem to help.
Right now I'm running Brass Droid.
I do stream music, though. Is that why it's so awful??
62% media and 24% screen? Yea, I'd say it's the music streaming. How long do you stream for? And are you doing it over 3G or 4G? 4G draws significantly more. How long of streaming music are you expecting out of a charge?

He's on edge which is like 1x or slow 3G. That will destroy battery. I would suggest getting a music subscription that allows you to download or sync you music then you can turn data off and of you use a custom kernel you could make your max screen off frequency your lowest freq. Then you'll be able to last all day - no pun intended.

The thing is....I only streamed music for 20 minutes with that screenshot! (I'm using Google Music)
And I'm only streaming because I keep running out of space on my phone! Sigh.

Then do you do any other media streaming on your phone? Looks like everything is normal except that.
No, just Google Music. I also use Songza, but I didn't use it today.

So, you have tried different ROMs or kernels?
Would streaming music (GMusic or otherwise) show up as media like that?
No matter how much streaming you do I don't think it'd show up like that, I think OP has another issue.

Yes it does actually. But yeah he has a different issue it wouldn't be that bad seems like something is polling the SD card for something.

I feel like it's another issue, but I don't know what it could be. Maybe something is wrong with my battery? I've tried Franco's kernel and most of the popular ROMs. Any tips on how I can make your max screen off frequency your lowest frequency?
You need to install something like Better Battery Stats and see what wake locks you have going on.
I would bet you have some. Audio wake locks are usually culprits....

Weird boot up "AudioOut_2" wake lock

Recently I found a weird wakelock generate EVERYTHING I reboot my phone.
My setup:
phone: Galaxy Note 2 LTE N7105
Rom: Wanamite V1.1 N7105
Kernel: Perseus 33.1 (26/2/2013)
Modem : DLL5
Everytime I reboot, this AudioOut_2 wakelock keep waking my phone for 8-15 mins . After that the phone can go deep sleep alright
and this AudioOut_2 wakelock doesn't activate again until I listen to music or playing games with sound.
I already disabled all system sound in my phone, like keypad press tone, unlock sound..etc.
I uninstall/froze ALL music player apps, like Google play music and Samsung music player.
I tried to freeze poweramp(my main and only music player) as well to test if it was Poweramp generate this wakelock on boot, the result is not.
Even I freeze the poweramp and then reboot, the AudioOut_2 wakelock still here. The duration is about the same as well.
I disabled Media Scanning via Rescan Media (root) as well.
I don't know what's up with it? Can anyone have the knowledge can give me a hand on this one? Thanks
P.S I tried to reflash the Rom, Kernel and Modem too but doesn't solve anything.
Here are the screen shots

I never put my phone in silent mode ; - ;
By the way, Thanks man! I will search for the issue.
Uninstall Viber and audioOut-2 will stop. I already removed it and audioOut stopped.

I don't have Viber - in fact I've no idea what it is - but Audio2 is my major culprit for partial wakelocks too. Never booted up in silent mode either, FWIW.
It hasn't worried me before because I still get good battery life - I switch between Redpill and Perseus - but now I'm paranoid because I've no idea what it is.
On [email protected], stock video and music removed, have Poweramp and MX Video instead, and have had this setup since SGS1 days.
If anyone has the patience to investigate further I'd be grateful. My kids preclude this.

Music skipping/freezing when screen is off

I notice that whenever I play music (Pandora or Google Music) with the screen off and a bunch of recent applications, the sound will skip and stutter. This only happens when the screen is off AND when I have a bunch of recent applications open. It sounds like an issue with how JB is handling RAM, but I have 80-90% ram usage at most when it happens; or perhaps is an issue with the wakelock under heavy RAM usage. If I clear all the recent applications by holding the home button down and clicking the trash icon, this problem goes away.
Phone Info:
- Teshxx's stock T-889 rom odexed (03-05-13) 4.1.2
- Baseband T889UVALK8
- Model: GT-N7105 (I could rename to T-889 but I believe this is relevant to the issue)
Attempts to resolve:
- Wiped dalvik cache and regular cache
- Installing newer versions of Teshxx's stock odexed rom
- Wiped app data from Google Music and Pandora
Potentially related:
- I deleted the stock music player and musicFX app
- I deleted some other miscellaneous apps
- I have some tasker profiles that address both Pandora and Google Music (one is a trigger to open Pandora, the other is to increase volume of Google Music)
- I have not tried and would like to avoid doing a full system wipe
Im completely stock and listen to pandora several hours a day. Usually while driving to and from work.
No issues for me.
Could be an issue with your ROM.

Do you usually have the screen off and have a bunch of recent apps?
Same happens to me with LG O3D in every music player (only while screen off). Even If I Use only 70 % of ram

Screen is off when im driving.
Ive gone days with out rebooting my phone, and i dont go in and stop them. So yes recent apps has what ever has been opened in between reboots.
Probably a ROM issue. I am back onto stock with my gs3 (Waiting on note 2) and have never had those issues. O have had them on different ROMS though.
I can have tons of apps open and screen off and no issues on stock. Shouldn't be a RAM issue either as 2G is plenty.

I encountered a simular problem on my Samsung infuse tracked it down to cpu throttling I'd check governer and scheduler may be some screen off power save bias built in to rom maybe

I do believe it may be related to CPU throttling as well. I do not have powersaving enabled and also do not have have any governing apps. I have better battery stats to track my CPU speeds and battery stuff, but I'm not sure how to set governing without an app.

Are you using voodoo sound?
Could be ROM, kernel, CPU settings, etc. This happened to me last week with the CM nightlies. I installed an update & my music started stuttering like crazy when the screen was off. Turns out I had the CPU settings customized for a special kernel but hadn't reinstalled that kernel, so the phone was trying to manage the stock CM kernel with settings for the custom kernel.
This used to happen to me before I switched to Perseus kernel. Since then I don't have the issue. Could you try that?
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
I tried doing a full wipe and installed teshxx's N7105 t-mo rom (4/09/13) and did not use any throttling apps (everything else stock). The music was still skipping with the screen off, but I tried setting my minimum CPU speed to 400mhz (from 200mhz) and the skipping stopped (300mhz still skips). So I'm positive it's a problem with CPU throttling now. Since it's a full wipe and I'm still having this issue, I feel that it's a hardware issue. Perhaps I should just warranty my phone.
Changed governor to on demand and all is good.
Music skipping when screen turns off
Hey guys, I didn't realize how many other people were having this problem too....
My phone is rooted and I used ROM Toolbox Pro to turn up the min CPU value from 200mhz to 400mhz and it seems to work so far. So if you can find any type of app that can up your minimum value on your CPU it might do the trick. Because that stutter is super annoying....
I will keep you guys up to date if this doesn't work. But so far so good.
I noticed the same thing on my note 10.1 tab. Fully stock, first day i got it it did that with Google play music. Only noticed it that one time though. I'll report back if it happens again.

[Q] Phone freezes and sometimes won't wake up

Hi i'm getting random and frequent freezes, normally on WhatsApp and the last one on uTorrent app.
I've changed from ROMs first on uXylon, then on Illusion, Vanir and now on AOKP.
The phone is very fast and responsive but randomly freezes and i have to remove batt.
Also sometimes won't wake up and also have to remove batt.
I never had that behavior before and i have no idea what to do.
Thanks in advance.
Your best bet is to look into into the logcat, last_kmsg, and/or dmesg.

Since you are on ASKP you can adjust the voltage settings. To do that you need to download Trickster Mod from the play store. Then go to the tab specific and scroll down to MPU Voltages. There is a little button with a + and a -. You press that and a pop up will appear. Press the + once and hit apply (big button in the upper right corner). If it is solved you need to set it on boot in the menu.

Before overvolting, OP could try to switch governor/scheduler/network algorythm combo. I couldn't find any quick info on SR' state on this kernel, but it would seem it's on by default, and that should take care of voltages automatically.
I'm having pretty much the same issue...
The phone will go to sleep and then never wake up. I'll get LED notifications, vibrations, sounds, etc that the phone is still working but screen will never turn on until I remove the battery and restart. The phone still works though, music will continue playing and all.
I've formatted everything, complete wipe, factory reset, SD card format, left performance control above minimum, changed lockscreens, wiped all caches, fixed permissions, flashed different ROMs, seem to always end up with the same issue.
Currently with "on demand" on SETCpu, what governor should I look into switching it to? And what would be the overvolt option for me to give it a go as well?
Thanks for all feedback.

Maybe your screen off clock is too low. Check in trickster mod.

Are you changing the animation speed in dev settings ? i used to and had freezes and blank screens, After leaving these settings on stock i never had another freeze.
