Does anyone have this problem I posted on the google forums here: https://productforums.google.com/fo.../report-a-technical-issue/android/Uj4K1IN_jno ?
Or is it only me?
Did someone manage to find a fix?
Yes
Yes, since I updated to KitKat 4.4.2 my videos are like this, but only happens in low resolutions.
If you go to settings and change the video resolution to 480p, sometimes 360p, it should be fine.
same problem
Is anyone solve this problem?
For me only appears when playing in non max resolution.
Although it's checked "always choose best quality" in youtube settings,
player sometimes start streaming in 480p for hd videos,
and this problem occurs.
ls there a way to force youtube to play only the highest quality?

Use the modded youtube version you can find here on XDA. Search. There you can force 720p if you like. I use it on my S4 Mini, and it's a great to take full advantage of the qHD resolution screen.

Hello, I am having issues playing all sort of video files on a t-mobile defy with stock 2.2.1 , very low resolution videos play fine, but when the video has a higer resolution than 480X320 i get a ton of lag, video and sound are of sync and pixelation. I tried killing all apps and it somehow help. I tried vplayer (the best so far-but paid), movoplayer, vital player, summer player and nothing seems to work as it should. Does anyone had this same issue and found a solution? Does rooting the phone will help? Any assistance will be appreciated

Hello, I had the same problem, I have a Defy Rooted with Pays ROM, I think is not neccesary to root your phone to get quality videos playing fine.
I solved the playing issues with rockplayer, you can found the Rock Player Lite version and test it, is working great for me, including 720p videos !
Hope can help you
Sorry for my bad English
Try mobo player...............not much lag
Anyone else noticing this? I caught a few threads in the Xperia forums stating the same thing. I had no problems viewing HD content on my Legend, yet the screen resolution was smaller. Perhaps it's something to do with the new 720x1280 displays?
Confirm. It looks choppy for a sec, then it skips frames and jumps ahead to compensate, then it starts choppy again, repeat. Regardless full screen or not - looks like not because of 1280x720
Stream is fast and buffer is full, not network issue.
Not seeing it... have a link of a video that doesn't work for you all?
I don't have a link, but lookup FPSRussia and watch his SA-80 video. That should give you an idea.
Edit: Gave it a go in Dolphin HD and the video plays without any form of stutter. Must be a crappy version of YouTube for these phones.
Happening for me sometimes. I can use the desktop version of YouTube and everything runs fine. Even if I watch a movie I recorded at 1080p and play it back in the video player, it's sometimes choppy.

I can't get YouTube to play HD, it seems to only play 480p.
not trying to revive a dead topic , but i have the same issue on Bell lg optimus LTE , i have tried deleting youtube and resinstall from the market. everything works fine 1080p etc on mx video player . maybe the youtube player has not been optimized for P930 ? if anyone has a solution to this, please reply !
Most likely it's just Youtube being broken or not optimized for the HD screen on this phone. I also have the same issue, and I even tried Screen Optimization. I feel that works a bit, but very little bit hehe.
I went ahead and uninstalled the update from the Android Market in Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Downloaded > Youtube. It went back to version 2.1.6 from 2.3.4 so I restarted the phone and gave it a go. It seems to perform a hell of a lot better, still not perfect but at least it doesn't drive me crazy.
Give it a go and see for yourself, you could always update it again on the market.

I'll stick with Dolphin HD for viewing the YouTube content, seeing that i use Dolphin for viewing websites other than YouTube.
Hey guys,
So I have a Galaxy Nexus running stock 4.0.2. I love watching videos on it, however my problem is that where I live, the fastest internet I can get is 1.5mbps. Therefore watching youtube videos at anything higher than 480p just simply isn't possible without letting it sit paused for a while to buffer.
When using the Youtube app on the Galaxy Nexus, a video in "HD" just can't load fast enough for me to watch. It seems as though the video might be loading at 720p, therefore with my internet it keeps stopping. And without HD enabled, the video quality is so horrendous it just isn't watchable.
So my question, is there any way to edit a file that will force the Youtube app to use 360p or 480p with the HD option? The app itself does not have any setting to specifically pick which quality.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.
I only know of the "use high quality" option in settings. It allows you to pick to only stream HD quality videos. Maybe you could turn that off on your phone if it is on. If not I have not heard of anything like what you are looking for. It would be good to have a feature like that though.
Yea I know of that setting but its not what I am looking for. I just need a way to be able to pick a specific quality or for "HD" to default to 480p.
Does anyone know how this could be done?
Update. After research seems I got it confused with another app
There's a 3rd party youtube app which might help I think it called freetube or something not sure what settings it has

I couldn't find any Youtube app that lets me specify a certain quality.
Is there any way to get the Youtube app to specifically stream in 360p?
Anyone got an idea?
Hi guys, by the time i bought s4 mini, the quality on youtube videos is bad. The phone might not be HD but certainly can play youtube videos with better quality. I read that also others have the same problem but the only solution i found was to download a modified version of youtube app but it needs to be root user. Have anyone from this forum faced this problem?? Is there any solution?
Have you tried the app "Viral Floating Youtube Popup"?
Change the default video resolution to 720p or 1080p and your good to go.
oh man really thanx, you saved me. it works perfect
I'm getting some lag when I try play some videos, specially when it is 720p or 1080p... The videos are usually mkv/h.264, I tried it on MXPlayer. So, anyone have a solution for that? Thanks!
have you enabled hardware decodification and downloaded the custom codecs for ffmpeg?
I've tried one, but I didn't see any improve. ..can you tell me which I should use?
