Not a big problem, but one that will have you pulling your hair out until you discover the obvious. If you have root and install Playstore, disable automatic updates. Playstore will auto update the Kindle system app, creating all sorts of havoc. If you purchase a book from Amazon, it will not be deliverable to your fire phone, Send to my Kindle extension in Chrome will not work in Chrome browser, etc.
Simple fix: Go to Playstore on your Fire Phone and uninstall all updates to Kindle app and then disable automatic updates in settings in Playstore.
Then WITHOUT power cord attached, (it seems to make a difference) do a hard reset to phone by holding power button down until screen goes blank and Amazon icon appears, it may take 40 seconds.
Playstore will try to auto update anything that is stock on your phone or that you chose to install from Amazon appstore, so disabling auto update will save you headaches in other ways, too!
Thanks, I'm going to check that. I had this problem and couldn't find the solution!

I have been looking for a solution and it doesn't seem to be common enough to find through a search. I am having problems installing third party apks on my phone. I am using the latest WanamLite Rom and I am positive that the Unknown Sources is checked in the security settings. For amazon apps on their market app, on stand alone APKs downloaded from here or the swype beta update I can get to the install screen where cancel and install is displayed. Pressing the install button does nothing however cancel does exit out of the installation. Any ideas?
Found the culprit. For some reason the screen filter app when enabled blocks the install button.

Thanks! I was having this same problem. Weird new problem to pop up with the smearing remedy. And one I never would have figured out.
I've had the same problem!
Some apps block the install button. Only cancel is clickable, install gives no response. Weird staff. If you don't know which one is it, go and factory reset..
I just picked up one of the $200 phones, and I'm playing around with it.
I've got a Qualcomm Toq smartwatch, and - after installing Google's Play Store - have been able to install the app that goes with it. The Toq has paired to the phone and they are seeming to communicate well.
My issue is this: In order for the Toq to get alerts, the Fire Phone tells me that I need to enable it on in "Accessibility-> Services." So I do. Everything else in Accessibility is still turned off, but when I got to Silk or the Amazon App Store, the Fire Phone starts reading everything out loud to me. So, it's as though the Screen Reader has been turned on. I've verified that the Screen Reader believes that it is off, and I've tried turning in on and off again, and rebooting the phone as well.
Nothing seems to fix this issue.
Has anyone else seen this? Is this a known issue? A quick search turns up nothing.
Thanks.

More likely than not, you're trailblazing here.
I just installed the Toq app (I don't own the corresponding device), enabled it in services, and tried to open the Amazon Store. After a bit, it started reading things to me even though I didn't enable anything to that effect, much like you're getting. This might be something you'd want to report to Amazon, regardless of whether you're using Google services or not.
Disabling the Toq app disables screen reading in other apps. No idea what's up. I'm on 3.6.8.

Thanks for the feedback. At least now I know my problem isn't unique. I imagine that my hardware setup is a corner case, and I wonder if there are even many apps that would cause these features to turn on. I suppose I'll try to contact Amazon about it.
Thanks again.
I get no action when I press the install button, though the cancel button works. I have the allow unknown sources box checked in settings. I cannot install using either ES File Explorer, or the stock My Files application.
I have also done a battery pull, and cleared cache in recovery.
Anyone have any idea how to correct this?
I'm having the same problem.
Is there a solution to this?
I'm now on 5.1.1
did u make sure unknown sources has a check mark under the developer option?
OMG!
Problem solved.
eyesofice- yes it was checked.
What I got was the option to "cancel" or "install" but the install button would not worked. It turns out it was due to running Lux (an auto brightness app). Turning it off let me use the "Install" button. I found a mention that programs that use screen filters like Lux will disable side loading because malicious apps could spoof the user into clicking on what looks like a harmless button but really it installs another app instead.
Hope this helps someone else
good to hear glad you solved it.
I use twilight myself and I have noticed that if you are on Lollipop that you will have this problem. So far I have noticed it on 5.0.1 and 5.1.1. In fact I believe that twilight itself had a pop up message I dictating that with Lollipop this was a known issue.
Recently (since mid-october 2015), I've been getting random full screen pop-up ads, including video ads, for products like Snickers candy bars, Cincinatti Insurance and Amazon Kindle. Once, while at the office, an ad for a game came on with video and audio that overrode my silent phone setting. Haven't been able to pin down what triggers them; sometimes they come on with awakening the phone and sometimes with the selection of an app (the app varies). I've tried to roll back and uninstall recent app downloads, but this does not eliminate the problem. I don't usually install free apps and would be a bit surprised (but not shocked) if one of the paid apps I installed prompted this annoyance. When you pull up the "recent apps," no app appears which would be related to the ads.
Before I do a restore to factory settings, I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem and if they were able to find the culprit.

Some app installed adware or is using push notifications. It's going to be near impossible for someone to just have the exact same experience as you, as there are unfortunately different apps that can do this (even paid apps, which is a scam since they get 2x profit: one from your purchase and second from the advertising).
You can do 2 things AFAIK:
1) uninstall apps one at a time until the ads stop. Then you'll know what app caused them.
2) Factory reset and install apps one at a time until the ads start.
There are also ad detectors that scan your apps for ones that could potentially contain adware, but I'm not sure which are good.

it's one of the apps you installed, probably a game or something. in any case it's by a 3rd party app. do you have a lot of apps? my guess is the app icon will be colorful lol. I would delete some unwanted apps and games.
you can go into settings and view installed apps and turn off notifications for that app when you find it.
also you can view battery info in settings and see what has been draining battery, the app with ads will be listed there as it needs to run in the background to spam you.
Hey,
Last night I finally updated my FTV 1 from 51.1.40 to the latest pre-rooted version by first installing the boot menu, 51.1.63, TWRP, then the latest pre-rooted version.
When i booted up, the screen had the titles for 'Home', 'Apps', 'Setting', etc, but the rest of the screen was blank, with these 3 dots on the bottom right side moving. I rebooted and got the same thing...went into the settings and saw I was no longer logged into my Amazon account, so once I got the Fire TV registered again, the home screen populated. Everything except the 'Your Apps & Games' section. The section is just empty space. When you scroll to it you cannot do anything. So the only apps that show on the home screen are in recent (which didnt seem to update when I used an app, like after installing Kodi 17.1 and using it. It didnt show up in Recent Apps). So the only way to access apps is through 'Recent Apps', Settings, and holding the home button and using that menu.
Any ideas on what is going on?
Thanks,

Start by going to Settings/My Account & do a "sync Amazon Content".
Then do Method 5 & 1 from this guide:
http://www.aftvnews.com/how-to-block-software-updates-on-the-amazon-fire-tv-or-fire-tv-stick/
Then make sure you unblock any Amazon address either on OpenDNS or the router. Then reboot the device. You can also do the Amazon Account Syncing after the reboot. I bet you are using one of those two old methods of blocking Amazon traffic.
