I am currently using MIUI 1.7.29 Osimood with the Tiamat 1.04 kernel, and I am wondering what the best kernel is for battery life. I am also using the V6 supercharger ram script. I am running my CPU at 960mHz at the moment, using the smartass governer. I also undervolted using vipermod, 960MHz at 950mV.
My choice consists of the latest Pershoot, UmaroKernel 1.06 or Tiamat 1.04
What differences would I see between those kernels, are they noticeable for a regular user?

Uh...what's wrong with the kernel it comes with? Can OC to 1.5GHz stock ya know. Battery life is great with it too. People always want to flash something weather it be a radio or a kernel.

damn straight,
1) pershoot is a sense kernel? (i am proabably wrong but i have never tried this kernel)
2) umaro kernel i found had issues with wifi, high underclock freq (leading to poorer battery life), but fun if you have the time to tweak voltages and fast!
3) tiamat kernel i found had issues with sleep of death/random reboots on wakeup couldnt test it past that. (setcpu was set to screen off was: conservative 125min -345 max and would still crash)
if you are up for another kernel, i am now using this kernel (streamline5)
no voltage tweaking (pretweaked) but it has good batt, speedy and stable cant ask for much

Pershoot is actually for non-sense roms. The downfall people have with it is lack of governors. Some don't mind, some want variety. I've had great experiences with Pershoot's kernel and it's the baseline that all others are compared to (not to mention the foundation of almost ALL G2/DZ kernels).
Umaro's just needs to have voltage tweaks done manually but on the plus side - keeping the voltages normal (not UV) allows some people to reach higher OC speeds. It keeps the processor from bottoming out due to insufficient voltage which can easily happen when you UV. The main issue is with the Greased lightening governor - it's new and still a bit buggy.
Tiamat 1.0.4 is outstanding. I can sit all day at 2+ GHz (not literally, see: Chernobyl). I personally have an issue with the interactive governor but other than that it's my favorite kernel (Umaro may take that soon, once greased lightening is perfected).
Basically you just need to try out a few and see which you like. There is no 'best'. Most kernels will work with any ROM (Sense being the only exception).
Bumping a thread that is relevant to my interests.
It's about time for me to jump ship from an outdated CM ROM and try something new like a MIUI ROM.
With that said, I'd like to read more opinions & experiences from people using the various Kernels AND how the latest radio (the one released today) is working for them. I'm just trying to get the optimal experience here
Speaking of MIUI would anyone mind telling me some differences between OsiMood's ROM compared to the official MIUI-US ROM (or even DarkSpadez ROM)?

I downloaded the official rom . . .then ignored it downloaded osimood and iv been using it since. Osimood is a lighter rom, which is always a good thing, unwanted languages etc are removed for a smaller faster rom. Also he preinstalls tweaks like an adblocker and extended settings mod.
Kernal wise iv been looking for the same info as you but couldn't find it. So I eneded up trying them all:
- Eugenes streamline5 is a nice kernal, preundervolted. Only probly is its not being updated so will become redundant.
-Tiamats kernal allows over clock to 2ghz and seems to support higher overclocks stably where other kernals can't. Except battery life has decreased with recent kernals
-Umarokernal this is the kernal iv come back to twice and am still on. It allows overclock to 1.9ghz and is kept updated by umaro. Performance per frequency seems as good if not better than most and osimoods miui runs smooth with this kernal on 800ghz with scarey governer (which saves battery) Another plus for me with this kernal is the scarey governer which for me definatly provides the best performance per battery ratio.

i just got 40 hours with similar setup but i use virtuous o/c daemon instead of setcpu
big fan of streamline5 and hope that it will get updated eventually

Its basically like an automatic setcpu (which can't be changed on the fly) built into the rom, its in virtuous unity roms
What sleep profiles are you guys usein. I seem to have rebooting issues with any kernel I try unless I go to a sense rom. I've tried the vipermod now to see how it goes

But how do you get the virtuos O/C daemon to work on MIUI?
You can download it threw rom manager. Even with that kernel I get reboot issues. I assume its cause system ram isn't being cleard fast enough. I'm gonna try 100mv increase to see if there's a difference.

They're mostly the same. Explod has a couple of different elements, mainly eye candy.

what exactly makes it better? and if i used explod i would probably swap to go launcher.
why would you use Xplode to run Go Launcher? The first thing you'll notice with Xplode is that is basically a different launcher over CM7. Same as Deck's is Launcher 2 over CM7.
Just use CM7, then root explorer to replace ADW with Go launcher and you are in business

Also, you can you the timescape widget and the photos and videos widgets, which are cool, but can only run on that rom. You need the sony launcher. You can extract the sony launcher and run it in CM7, but you won't be able to use the timescape or photos/videos widget, as you'll be missing some sony framework. Also a different dialer. You can take the infinite view for contacts and run that on CM7 as well.
Check out my setup. I don't really use it for games but my current setup gives me exponentially better battery life than anything I was using before.
With other kernels I used I would have to underclock and switch my scaling profile in order to have my battery last more than a few hours. Now the battery lasts all day and I dont have to worry about losing performance by having to scale down my cpu at all. Amazing battery life while maintaining great performance. That's what I've found with this setup.

what cpu settings and governor do u use?
My understanding is that Decks is basically a stripped down CM7... Xplod is Decks with the Sony Experia launcher and widgets/apps added in (in place of the Decks launcher which is ADW if I remember right)... as well as some themed coloring that is different from Decks.
Performance wise, you shouldnt see too much difference, as they all started with CM7 and just had a little bit removed/added for personal prefrence.

this is a quote from decks: "Currently as i look at my phone, my battery stats have me at 31 hours and counting with 15% left. So battery life as you can tell was one of my main concerns. Everything works!!!" so the decks gingerbread rom was designed for more than just being like cm7

I am set to "On Demand" with my CPU set at 1.036ghz. Phone runs smoothly at this setting and my battery lasts forever. You can switch the scaling to performance, and up the clock speed a little, and you'll get even better performance. Albeit, your battery life will naturally go down, but it will still last longer than any other kernel combos I've tried.

i just downloaded it, but i don't overclock my phone i normally run it at max 690mHz and at the moment i have it on interactivex even though i don't know the difference between that and interactive...

with your clock speed set so low you don't really have to worry about battery life regardless of which scaling you use. Trying to game at 690 is going to be a pain in the ass as well. I don't really know anything about the Interactive/InteractiveX scalings. I've used Smartass before and I've been really pleased with the results of that scaling. I usually use Ondemand because that is the default setting that my phone goes to when I boot it up and I am too lazy to change it. When I do get around to changing it I will usually switch it to either Smartass or Performance depending on what I intend to do with the phone.

i've heard some people can OC their GIO to 921MHz stable, but on my gio it can't even get stable on 883Mhz. on 864MHz is somewhat stable but i still get hung or FC randomly, im super stable at 844MHz.

Not all devices are made exactly the same. Processors can behave differently as do the batteries and other hardware.

is there nothing i can do? i've tried many ROMS, on some i can get to 921 for a few seconds, but still the same. will changing kernel help?
Why not stop overclocking ? Just find a very fast rom and then you can save the overclocking , hence the instability and hotness and draining battery. That way you will have longer life on your Gio.
L.E. : just change the minimum frequency to 245 and refrain from using roms that are heavy right now , like CM 10.1 , try anything based on gingerbread like Adrenaline or Enhanced 2.3.6 or DebianDroid for example , or AOSP ICS wich i find very fast.

well currently im using AOKP milestone 6 CM9 based, i use conservative governor 245-844MHz, installed adrenaline engine 4.4, and pim my rom and set my OOM and LMK to medium settings. battery is drained only when im using data or playing games obviously. actually this ROM is superb for me performance wise, its just, i feel like i can squeeze a bit more of it for playing games you know. its like i see this slight lagging and i thought if only i could use a little more CPU power, the lag will be gone
Even you can overclock a 1st gen AMD Duron to 2Ghz with liquid nitrogen, it just doesn't make sense doing it

i can oc my cpu to 960mhz but i think it makes no sense... you don't feel the extra speed in normal use only in benchmarks... my cpu is set to 480mhz because it's enough for every app i am using (facebook, whatsapp, xda, browser and so on).

So my Evo 3D has finally called it quits and I have one month left till I leave Sprint so my friend gave me this phone that he doesn't use any more. For such an old phone I really can't complain about it, compared to my Evo 3D which runs CM 10.1 too it never crashes, always has GPS, 3G, 4G working fine and the battery lasts me all day. So I'm in love. But my one and only issue is it is extremely slow. And no I will not leave CM 10.1 as I use Google Now very often but if their are huge differences/opportunities for huge differences I'll go down as low as CM 10 or a different 4.0+ ROM.
So I was wondering is there a lite version of CM 10.1, recommended kernels that support both overclocking and undervolting, can someone explain how to make a swap partition on the SD card, and so on, just any ways to free up RAM, speed up the CPU/GPU, and lighten the load of the OS.

"Light version": do it yourself with a root-enabled explorer. Google and you'll know what system apps can be deleted.
OC&UV kernel: Nitest maybe.
Swap: IDK
Free up RAM and speed up: I personally use Autostarts and Advanced Task Killer (Pro), but Greenify seems easier to use. You get ~80MB free RAM after a clean install, but can get 190~220MB after heavily using these. I don't use gapps so YMMV.

I've already deleted every system app I'm comfortable removing using Root Uninstaller. After having everything I have to have installed on the phone, with as many apps set to not run in the background that I can and Greenify helping too, I tend to have 10-70MB of RAM free, it tends to be 15-35MB free though. I don't use task killers since all they do is play cat and mouse and waste battery, and tried a few auto start managers but can't really get into using it with how complicated they are. Right now the main thing I want to figure out is getting a swap partition up and running since that sounds the most promising with how little RAM this phone has.
Did a backup and switched to the nitest-0721 kernel and so far it's doing good. Disappointed the OC only goes up to 1.2GHz but it's better than nothing (don't understand kernels that limit how much you can OC when it's up to you to find how much your phone can OC), hopefully I can find a way to get it to go higher, and the "voodoo color" is weird but I can install a different version of the kernel to remove that if my eyes don't adjust first. Anyways... my free RAM now stays between 100-200MB, usually about 160MB, with 18% zRAM, purging of assets, and samepage merging enabled which is amazing. Apps are opening faster and don't stutter anywhere near as much as before, so I'm happy but will see how things go tonight when I go to work and am playing with it on and off, along with need to find a way to really overclock it.

Try going with one of didhiy's nitest kernels and maybe a different AOSP ROM, like AOKP, PAC, etc. Or try out SuperNexus even. That's an extremely lightweight ROM with no customization options (Its straight up stock Android, just like a brand new Nexus phone), but its fast and quite stable from what I remember.

Well I've run this kernel for a week or so now with the smartassv2 governor and min/max at 100/1200MHz. Zero reboots unless I'm playing Minecraft the entire phone locks up other than the button lights, no matter what I do it crashes sooner or later but oh well I'm bored of that game just wanted to see if it'd play on this phone. ANYWAYS I've heard of it being done before but can't find any info on how to do it, how can I overclock past what the kernel allows (1.2GHz), I've seen reports of this phone handling 1.5GHz and want to see if I can reach 1.4.

The frequency is still limited by the kernel...
1.5GHz is history (too unstable and hot so that devs stopped including it), and only Gingerbread/ICS custom ROMs can get that frequency via flashing corresponding Sanders/Shadow/Samurai kernels and overvolting as well, which is definitely not good.

I just seriously hate kernels that limit how high you can overclock instead of making OC options to unreachable levels letting you find your phones limits. People make kernels, roms, hacks, etc so we can get around limitations that the hardware vendors put up. So if we've managed to circumvent the manufacturers blocks why are the same people that got around them making their own blocks, they already put up silly warnings about anything you install/do could break your phone but if you're going to give that warning it needs to be true. Anyways ending my rant lol...
I know their has to be a way to edit a kernel or file to add more options since the kernel creators can't do the job themselves, it's just finding out what and where these files are. Can anyone inform me on this and give me details on how this whole system of controlling clock speed works so it can be modded?

Uh, AFAIK, isn't these frequency decided only when the kernel is COMPILED (from source code)? I don't exactly know...

I have been using Omega Rom from version 8 up to version 18, then switched to ProBam, then Pacman, and now I'm back on Omega 19, giving the "official" 4.3 a shot.
I have tried many many settings and kernels to get this game run without a lag.
So far, I have seen no lag when using performance governor while playing for a few minutes (no overclocking the CPU or GPU) that was it...
Every other setup gives lag, more or less. The second best setup would be pegasusq governor, not much changes when overclocking CPU or GPU, or both.
Using a stock kernel is also not bad, but lags every now and then. (not dependant on Rom)
But I want to get the sound settings from trickster mod for example, so I feel like I need a custom kernel with my Rom of choice.
So, does anyone have a good setup that matches performance governor, but does not stick permanently to maximum CPU load?
I don't care about battery life, so I need a good performing setup.
(Just on a side note: when people say "there is no lag at all when scrolling through my homescreens" then I can only think that this should be normal with ANY setup. And I never had any lag while scrolling through my homescreens, except while I was using my HTC Hero...)
I would very much appreciate if someone with the same goal could help me out, or someone knows the default settings of the stock kernel...
Or is this whole idea just utopic, because the game is badly coded?
