I get an average of 20% drain if I non stop use whatsapp for an hour, on WiFi. Is this normal?
Sent from my LG-D855 using xda premium

Sounds above average to me. 5 hours screen on time doing anything is good, average is 3-4. That number shrinks the more intense the application such as video. You being on WiFi won't reduce the drain of the screen, its using the most power in that scenario.

WiFi drains more than 3G?

In my experiences, cellular data uses way more battery than WiFi on my G3. I usually have 1-2% battery drain per hour on standby with WiFi on, but 1-2% drain every 15 minutes when on cellular data.

I shifted from galaxy s3, thinking that this phone would give me a better battery life. But it is not. The idle battery consumption is very good, but screen on time is very less. Any tips to increase?

cell standby....time with no signal

Hi guys,
Quick question. When checking phone battery use, standby is always the highest and nh time without a signal is always around or over 50%. Does this mean my phone is defective? Can you guys compare your results? Thanks Pete

Are you in an area with bad cell reception? My time without a signal is always very low only a few minutes and thats just from the time it takes me to drive through the mountain pass to and from work.
At work I have very low signal but driving to work I have great signal. So today my phone has been on 1.5 hours before getting to work. Cell standby is 63% and time without signal is 51%.
Btw this is a replacement phone. My first one had gps issues. Ive had it 3 days but seems to have weaker overall signal.
Here are my screenshots. Should I get this phone replaced too. I swear my other phone had great battery life. I have barely touched this phone but it's only on its third battery cycle. Battery is at 82%. Opinions please.

If its due to bad signal then that completely explains my battery. I have horrible signal at work

If I am not wrong (I am assuming this is like the Nexus) you can turn off the LTE on your phone if you are not in the area that has it and will save some battery.

I would be happy if I got that amount of battery life. I can barely get 11-12 with normal usuage.
But that's not "normal" Usage those. That's me constantly conserving by disabling data all the time or airplane mode in general. Those numbers only reach that high on days I ignore my phone
i also find it very uncool that 70 something % of my battery was cell standby? really? wtf is that...
i can't wait till we get ICS ... look at this pic of an xperia s after the ICS update

Cell standby is caused by LTE searching, 4G Searching, GPS searching, and WIFI searching when it not connected.
So 70 % or more of my battery was used for searching for signal? That's pretty lame considering I keep everything off or disabled unless I'm using it. .... how does that make sense.

Cell Standby Issue!

Why is my cell standby always so high up? Right now the phone has been on for 3 hours and the cell standby is at 41 percent.
Here as well.
What ROM are you using?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I'm not sure but could it possibly be from the device constantly trying to get or maintain signal? Or perhaps it's just the most used thing on your phone? My battery has only dropped 15% in the last ten hours because I was working and barely used my phone, yet the cell standby was 51%.

Yeah that's what it means. But why is it so high. My old HTC Aria only used about 15-20 percent battery for cell standby.

Now i'm even having trouble staying connected to my 5ghz network. I'm literally standing right next to my router and the phone just drops the connection like every hour.
As you use other stuff those percentages go up.
IF you have had your phone on for 3 hours and done nothing with it then cell standby will be high as the stuff below it was used a lot less.
I ve had mine on the battery for 20 hours and cell stand by is 34%
If you were to say play a game for a long time then your game and screen would go up in time.
Cell standby should not be that high no matter if you're using your phone or not. This sounds like the bug the the og sgs1 epic had that always caused the phone to have a high time without signal that drained battery. It was eventually fixed with the gingerbread update. Can one of you click on cell standby so we can see if the time without signal bug is back? I would like to know b4 I upgrade.
Edit: my cell standby never goes above 7% on my SGSII. And once the og epic got the fix the cell standby would remain below the 10%. Cell standby should be at the bottom of list unless you have crappy reception and the phone is constantly searching for service.

Cell Standby is a bug, easily fixed. Use the Flashable zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1732722
Some ROMS may not have this fix included, but most does. If you see that you have really high Cell Standby try this out. Worked for me, I was on FreeGS3 and the version I was running didn't have it, now the lastest release has it included.
Now new problem. the phone turns on for 2 seconds and then turns off again. this is random though. Usually happens every 2 hours or so.

This is probably due to a well known bug on the Galaxy S III series, originally reported in the international version. The actual power consumption of Cell Standby is being overstated in the stats by a factor of about 10. This is a reporting issue, not an issue with actual power consumption. See this XDA thread.
It needs a fix from Samsung.

Does the DMA6 update resolve battery drain issue for you?

Hello All,
I just received the DMA6 update from Samsung... I know this update is new but it would be good if all of you can post your comments on the battery drain after this update.. Feel free to post screenshots of the battery..

Since flashing my battery life and deep sleep battery life is greatly improved. Very pleased with this update.
Thanks for your reply.. I just installed the update and am a bit skeptical and feel as if the battery is draining faster when the screen is on.. Might be that when the phone is in idle or deep idle the battery would be dropping less significantly.. let us wait for other users to post their comments... hope fr the best...

I had no batt issues since upgrading to 4.1.2
with this new update battery life seems better. Left my phone at 10% before i slept and woke up to it still at 10% so deep sleep is really good
Thanks Paulito.. As i said i am suspecting that deep sleep is good now... but do you notice a faster drain when screen is on.. Do let us know.. I will also keep an eye on the battery stats for the coming weeks and keep all posted..

Guys, install Batter Monitor Widget and do a real test to see what your standby and screen on consumption is in %/hour. We need real numbers, not anecdotes.
With DLL7 I get between 0.6 and 2%/hour drain in standby. Screen on averages 10-18%/hour. Gaming is usually 30%/hour. Wifi on, brightness on auto, location on, Facebook , google plus, tapatalk and 2 gmail accounts syncing with notifications.
I'd love to see what this new firmware gets under those conditions .
I can't wait until it's available for my variant. On DLL3 my battery was terrible! I went back to 4.1.1 where I can easily go all day with 70% of my battery remaining.
I shall install the battery monitor widget and will upload my findings in a couple of days..

Nothing required to enable it,
it should go to deep sleep, if it doesn't go to deep sleep then you have to find out which process stoping it to do so.

As stated in that post of mine, I was indoors the entirety of the day. Being that I was home, I was on wifi which uses less power. In addition to that, I had the brightness turned down to around 25%-%30 since I was in a dimly lit room.
I more or less was in an optimal environment to get the most screen time possible. When I'm out and about, I average around 3.5-4.4 hours of screen time.

Emmm nop. Except for, may be at 1 or 2 places, it may seem like that. However if u look at the screen shots, almost all of them have the battery life bar increasing with my phone in normal/sim working mode. Don't know whats casuing this.
